But Dave....I thought the Cameras were the most important factor behind the image??!!! Totally joking and being sarcastic On a more serious note...Dave I think that example can be filed in the conversation for the fact that cameras are again still just tools. We still need to use the right glass, know how to light, use good shot composition etc etc to achieve the look we see on in our heads. Good post man!

Wow!! They finally did it. Heck my ole Nikon 5300 only does an hour shooting video. This will def get added to the list of cameras to save up to for me.
-
This camera definitely seems to check all the boxes a content creator would want. At least for me. Curious about battery life. Definitely looking forward to footage to come from this

4K and no DPAF? I really don’t see the need for anyone to spend ~$800 on this camera. Canon Colors? Sure but with everything this camera DOES NOT have, I don’t see the point.
-
You shot/edited this? Sweet
-
And folks there you have it, the effects of alcohol on the brain!
-
@Robin Billingham some solid camerawork indeed sir!
-
If I had to go Sony for that price I’d look at either a used 63/6500 or I’ve even seen A7S go around 7-800 I think...
-
Right of course no camera will make a shitty filmmaker better. That’s why for every good example of a camera on YouTube you see a ton of bland/generic/shitty reels of footage. It really depends on your workflow/what you want/shooting style etc. If you have your heart set on that camera then get it! Shoot it. With the quality of camera bodies available to us my money is going more toward lenses/lighting these days. But yeah man get whatever you want and use it with all its unique quirks/pros/cons.
-
@Charlie I see what you’re saying man. Yeah idk, if it was me and I was starting a new kit with $600 budget for a body, I think I personally would be looking at other factors besides full frame capability. I’d probably go with a used G85 if I could find it. But hey man best of luck, the choice is yours!
-
What’s your budget man? If the price on the A7 is driving your decision you might wanna look across the board and compare with others. On the other hand that can easily lead to getting lost in specs instead of shooting. Go with your gut and shoot the crap out of it. Great reel!

I went to try resolve 14.3 download for free (figured why the heck not...) and I’m only on Yosemite. Will upgrading to high sierra give me issues with adobe premiere pro/Photoshop? Figuring it will...
-
My current laptop would probably love it if I used fcpx but I don’t really want to switch. I’ve seen all the tests though. On some stuff doesn’t the latest resolve actually beat out premiere?
-
@Andrew Reid Very interesting post sir! Until recently I was considering building a custom specced Ryzen machine for 1400 until a financial obligation (student loan) presented itself first. Lol I’ll probably be upgrading my computer later in the year. As much as I’d like to get good specs, I LOVE Apple OS. I edit H264 only so I’m sir even this would be better than my old and dying 2012 MacBook Pro Retina i7. Something I’ll throw in my favorites folder for sure edit: also graphics card prices are out the wazoo so that 1400 build is now like 1800

Anyone see the Nikon rumors article about it having two af motors and they showed a patent Nikon filed. Very curious about this camera.
-
PM’ing you about an idea if you’re interested.
-
Yup!! Decided to wait a few months to take care of some more pressing and current financial situations first. So peering laptop doesn’t die on me in the next few months, I’ll be doing this again around March/april! I just learned per Apple website they charge approx $199 for a battery replacement. Might do that and replace my heat sink diy in the meantime.
-
Will that machine be good for premiere pro? I had read a little about that intel/amd partnership. Sounds nice!
-
Not sure but my pc build got pushed back due to personal financial obligations but besides the pout- All the GTX 1060 6gb graphics cards are apparently in a drought as of today. Was looking online on the gpu tracker sites and the only ones in stock are ridiculously inflated at double the price. Not sure how we’re supposed to build video editing pcs with decent GPU’s when it’s tough to get a card at a decent price.

I’m in the final stages of pulling the trigger on a Ryzen 5 1600X build. Not sure if you pulled the trigger but here are my proposed specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/itwinky/saved/vP3M8d

Alright minor changes made. My revised desktop vs laptop options: see the two: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/itwinky/saved/vP3M8d https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1367633-REG/dell_i7577_7722blk_i7_7700hq_16gb_1tb.html Would I notice a huge difference in performance for $300 more on the desktop? (Minus the fact that the custom desktop is way more future upgradable) I realize again this is like comparing apples to oranges but I want to make sure I’m getting good stuff for the money.
-
If anyone is interested/has any opinions, below are my final choices for a new laptop/desktop build all around the same $1000 give or take (if you include a monitor for the desktop build and other accessories). https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KVCNJV https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1367633-REG/dell_i7577_7722blk_i7_7700hq_16gb_1tb.html (alternatively, a used XPS15)
-
I did read that. I don’t quite understand it but very frightening!
-
Thanks for the tip Don! Cheap is good...And yeah Im definitely going to wait, I’m just really trying to lay out my options over the next couple weeks.

Any ideas/opinions on the above laptop?
