After 3 years, I finally finish my film, shot with Nikons.
Dustin replied to Wild Ranger's topic in Cameras
As a fellow d5300 owner this is very encouraging! I'm sure it varied but what lighting gear did you typically wind up employing? Also did you use flaat11 or a similar flat picture profile? -
Exactly this!! You should take this route if you don't want to spend all your money on your camera.

Thinking about buying a splitter cable and female to male 3.5mm for my Tascam DR07mkii so I can just run the audio to camera when I don't want to sync it. Would I just need to turn down the mic level on my d5300 to avoid unnecessary camera noise?
-
Is there any mods you would have to do on the iRig? Caleb Pike found this $23 preamp and I forgot why but for some reason he modded it when he had the Rode TRRS to TRS cable?
-
Ahhh bummer! Thats what I was thinking but I was somehow naively hoping otherwise! Looks like an awesome camera never the less

I shoot 35mm film with an Olympus OM2N. Will my 50mm 1.8 zuiko lens fit the EM1MkII without an adapter or is the OM mount not the same as the EM1's mount? Posting because I haven't actually researched this topic that much. That 50mm from the OM line just looks awesome on my film camera!

I agree! I always have to dial any lut I use in premiere pro to around 30-60

Anyone else have any experience using the m31 lut from Color Grading Central? I posted this in another thread but was looking for opinions on the lut and if any had used it? Ive attached a quick video of some shots I gathered at a nearby park, all handheld. This was mainly shot for fun but I wanted to test the M31 lut. I probably should've dialed the lut back a tad bit it some of the shots.
-
So I made this little short video in the park the other day. I think it looks pretty nice it was after all JUST FOR FUN Heavy grade? Maybe a bit. Just wanted to share and hear your thoughts. Camera: Nikon D5300 with tamron 17-50 and Flaat 11. Footage was all shot handheld on the fly. Used the M41 Lut from Color Grading Central. I'm not sure how much Vimeo will compress my video as I just used the Vimeo preset.

Wow! Quite a package for free. Of course maybe a different workflow but worth considering!

Yeah give it a shot dude! Again I could be incorrect as I don't use resolve and am going off my memory. But on the website there is a super long list of comparisons and it looks like you are getting a super video editor, great color correcting platform and all for FREE. Considering you are wanting to save money (that could go toward better lens/lighting/equipment) I'd do this for sure

Premiere Elements would be better than photoshop. BUT I believe DaVinci Resolve is a free download. I'm not sure of the drawbacks but I believe you can't export a 4k video, other members on here can chime in. But maybe download Resolve before buying anything? Could save you money and I think you'd get a fuller featured video editor than Elements.

Yes if you are paying for CC just go ahead and download Premiere Pro. There are numerous tutorials both on the adobe site and youtube. You could try Lynda.com and take a course on there as well (I haven't personally done this but have heard good things). I also own photoshop but would strongly suggest not using it as a video editor.

If you are cool with wired mics and since you don't want to spend much money how about getting a polsen wired lavalier? I bought this one from BH under $20~ and I run it to my Tascam DR-07MKii. I'm sure if your recorder is much higher end than mine it should work the same. Then I just sync in premiere but you could run a line out to the camera. Audio quality on this mic is great, I've used it on several projects. Just my suggestion since you're not trying to spend much!

I've never worked with proxies but also need to try this! I'm not really tied to anything but when I took up this a few years ago fcpX wasn't popular and my school had premiere so that's what I learned and am comfortable with using. If the tides change though, I know how to edit video in final cut as well or any other software but premiere is where it's at for me right now.

I will give it a shot soonish and report! I think in the semi distant future a video pc build is in order but I just love the portability of my MBPR. I'm sure 1500pc could probably kick ass but I have checked on eBay and I could get a maxed out 2014 mbpr for below that. Might be another option in the future.
-
I was under the impression transcoding can reduce quality though, when it comes to h264 and that premiere is supposed to natively handle it fine? Is this incorrect Sorry I don't use FCP X.
-
I'm on a 2012 MBPR with 8gb of ram, i7 quadcore and the GT650M graphics card. Using Premiere Pro CC here. I use a usb3.0 hard drive to work on and store all my projects. I leave the graphics card enabled all the time as I was experiencing insane glitches until an Adobe Rep prompted me to do this. My d5300 produces h264 files and editing is pretty easy and fast on my laptop. Sometimes I drop it to 1/2. The issue is when color grading or doing anything with alot of clips, premiere gets bogged down. Not enough that I can't work through it but enough that it's a bit annoying! Should I be having this trouble due to only 8gb of ram (soldered to the board so no upgrading it) and the age of my i7 processor? Was doing some color grading with a m31 lut last night and it really slowed down. Do I need to do anything to my files, computer, or storage for better premiere pro performance or am I on par with what to expect from the 2012 MBPR with 8gigs of ram and i7? I am pretty handy with computers and would love to spend around 1500 or less to build a decent video machine. (Although I would miss Mac OS i'm sure! ) Currently dont work on 4k but in the next year or less I think i'll be upgrading to a 4k camera I'm sure.

Anamorphic Stories - ft. Isco UltraStar & Canon 50D
Dustin replied to Justin Bacle's topic in Cameras
I don't know a ton about anamorphic but that second one to me looks amazing. Classic even! -
Agreed, in my opinion these guys were the burger flippers. Or maybe they were just trying to hard. Either way. Yuk.

If anything this inspires me to know that if obnoxious camera moves can make a "pro" interview on apple, there is hope..
-
I think they mentioned it was a house they bought recently but I feel like it would've been cooler to see them in front of an audio console in their studio, or in front of instruments. You guys are right, the shots, movement and location also don't make sense
-
This is true of many fields. I'm just another guy with a camera like the rest of us but when I saw this I was kinda blown away by the lack of quality here I will say shooting at 60p and the higher shutter rate seems to smooth out the handheld bumps for me when doing slow mo.
-
I'm a Kings of Leon fan (as well as a fan of many other bands/artists). I found this interview about their new album. Now i'm not one to criticize work but considering it was on apple I would assume it to be pretty good quality. Yet it was very, very distracting for me to watch, not so much due to the actual shots but the motion. It seemed almost as it had bad warp stabilizer applied or bad rolling shutter? I couldn't put my finger on it but I almost feel some of the camerawork was a bit unwatchable for my tastes. Thoughts anyone?? Curious to hear! Also additional note: 1) I like handheld style footage as well as stable, locked down footage. But some of this seems like it could've benefited from a monopod as some of the shots feels really shot on the fly but I personally don't love it.
