@AaronChicago just downloaded the dng you uploaded and wow that has alot of range and was super fun to play with! Forenote: the only video footage I have experience grading has been from my nikon d5200 and flat profiles from my d5300. I love how the look the footage has to it. Do you remember what lens/lighting you shot for that scene? (The one with the man and macbook )

Uhh geez! So what would the alternative be to the sirui that won't break on me within a year but isn't $1000? It's insane to me how expensive camera support gear is.
-
Wow guys that Sirui is a cool concept. I will look into this. I fully understand you get what you pay for but I just wish the Benro monopod with the flip locks had lasted longer. I will try to tighten it up and if that doesn't work I will look at this sirui monopod.
-
I have this Benro Monopod. It has been good except after about 3-4 months of very light use, the second lock actually doesn't lock the leg and the camera will slowly slide down. I am using a d5300 and a tamron 17-50 usually so nothing crazy. I recall looking somewhere on the internet saying that this was a flaw with the design and instead get the twist lock version. Can this failing lock actually be fixed? I believe I have tightened the lock with the included Allen wrench. I just hate that I spent $200 (cheap for gear support stuff I know) and it's now half way functioning. Would there be a way to get the head off and use it on tripod legs?

No need to be snarky here. I woke up to both Richard and your posts and simply happened to see both of them at the same time. I'm not a complete dumbass - I just don't have that much electrical know-how. Jeez.

So with that setup though you're still confined to where an outlet or extension strip lies. Which I guess might not matter depending on your needs. Yes the eoshd community is great!

You sir are the mvp. thank you!

I can't seem to find that spot. Here is the battery compartment on my d5300. The outside battery door is rock solid with no cutouts. However I have looked at my tripod and it seems it does have room to open but I'm just worried it might fall out..

So essentially I buy a sony f550 battery and the cradle then a dummy battery for my d5300. Check. I now have to leave the battery door open since the cable won't obviously fit through. I've been looking at buying some sort of rig to mount both batteries and my tascam recorder. What would I then buy that would give me enough clearance to keep the battery door open? What about a battery grip how much more time would that give me?

I have a nikon d5300. What would be the best solution to power my camera for a shoot lasting longer than 2-3 hours? This camera eats thru batteries fairly fast. I have seen this video but does anyone know if this or another option would be best? I am not wanting to spend a ton of money and I don't want to damage my camera. Thanks!

I can comment on the 5200 and 5300 as I have owned both currently the latter. The 5200 suffers from banding (might also be called sensor noise?) from the sensor especially when using a flat profile. The d5300 fixes this and gives you 1080p 60 fps for slo-mo. The d5500 gives a stock nikon flat profile for once and I believe a touch screen?

Blackmagic View Assist 4K records 4K ProRes to SD card for just $895
Dustin replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Question for all: is the d5300 capable of outputting all its frame rates to an external recorder? Interested in the cheaper BM View Assist Or is it only capable of 30p output? -
If you didn't NEED 4K you'd be great off with the d750. But hmm...

I have some more clips to add but have a question....I'm on a 2012 MacBook Pro Retina with 8gb of ram. Would I get better performance in premiere pro cc by transcoding to prores?
-
Thanks! Yeah I didn't really spend much time with the grade. The goal was just to see what kind of image it would pull. Gonna play around more with the profile today, seems like with plenty of lighting it gives a nice alternative to the standard profiles
-
Nothing crazy special here but I did a test on a country road today. Footage was shaky handheld so I won't bother loading that but flat 11 seems to produce a very grade able image in some conditions. I like the stock profiles like Standard and Portrait as well but I think this turned out kinda cool.
-
seems like you get a good image with the plus of having audio and a traditional camcorder format. Is there a log or flat profile? Pardon if you've already addressed this...
-
Definitely one I hadn't looked into! But for that price it's so close to the ONA bag. I may be biased towards the Union Street look I guess.

While not a topic of excitement this is something I'm having to consider. I currently carry 2 bags to my 9-5 photography job or on video shoots but would love to condense this into one bag. My everyday kit consists of: 15" Macbook Pro Retina + charger D5300 plus two zoom lenses Yongnuo 568EX flash unit 2 nikon batteries Olympus Om2n with 50mm zuiko So basically I need a bag to fit not only a MBP but room for 2 cameras with enough of room for accesories like batteries, chargers, filters, pens etc. My two front runners thus far are the ONA Union Street and the Incase DSLR PRO. Are there any other bags you guys are aware of that are less "camera-bag" more simple every day looking bags? I don't mind spending 300 on a bag if its every day use will last me for sometime. Waterproof to some degree would be nice (one con of the Incase bag).

Depending on the video concept, if nothing else just try to get b-roll that doesn't have to be matched up to audio i.e. tuning a guitar, setting up, chatting, band members posing etc.

Am I the only one finding it hard to ignore the JVC LS300?
Dustin replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
Definitely sounds interesting! Would love to see some footage from you Mattias! -
Actually I went with a d5300 body. However I'm going to save up and use eventually purchase another camera just for personal work (i.e. work not at my main photo job). Hopefully it will be a camera that is better suited to a video workflow such as a gh4/bmpcc etc. But until then, I'm satisfied with d5300 image for what it is.

I'm thinking this might be my next camera. Fairly affordable even after a rig, great image quality. Looks great man!

....gah! lol I haven't tried cineflat though or any other flat profiles.
