  1. Ok now I feel like an idiot and cant even find where I read that. Pardon my brain fart its been a long and stressful day. Honestly if the 5300 with flaat 10/11 looks good, I'd rather save some cash at the moment
  2. From what I read you can't use an external flash on the hot shoe. Which is my issue
  3. Ok! As much as I would like a default flat profile, I use an external flash on the hotshoe that isn't supported on the d5500, so it looks like I'll be getting the d5300
  4. Good to know! I didn't want to load flat on the rental d5300 I have now. I was looking into d7200 bodies as well but at that price I would rather wait and access my options. The d5500 is what I'd like but I need an external flash so the d5300 is probably the most cost effective option here I'm thinking.
  5. Does the d5300 work well with flaat 10/11? I tried it on my d5200 and the horizontal banding/noise was too bad.
  6. Just dropped off my camera at the shop. He thinks it can get fixed but agreed I got a dud. I'm still going to get a camera regardless as I have no time to wait. He recommended the 7200 but if I'm going to spend 1000 I might as well save and get something better... at at this point, the d5300 is in first place.
  7. Good points. Wait so what "old" lenses could I use in autofocus on the d750? Basically at this point the question is for me: Do I spend $600 on a body and be done with it (hopefully, fingers crossed) also perhaps get a d500 later. Or do I spend 2400 on a d750 with a kit, sell my d5200, kit lens, tamron 17-50 and hopefully buy a 50mm1.8g for filming/portraits until I can get a 24-70? I unfortunately NEED flash so the d5500 is out.
  8. So the D500 is always an option... then I wouldn't need new lenses. Maybe get a d5300/5500 then buy the d500 in a little while? I am really disappointed. Its a crazy issue but upon some other research last night it isn't unheard of for the autofocus to just stop working reliably. And in my case I need it to work for photos. On the other hand the d5500 has flat video. That would be a nice bonus. But at that point I'm not far away from the upcoming d500.. decisions decisions.. Good Point. Maybe d5300/5500 is the way to go. Would be much better on the budget. The question then is do I buy the 5500 from BH or try to find a better deal on ebay. I feel like I already know the answer to this question. On one hand I bought my Tamron 17-50 on ebay for WAY less than BH and it works/functions great. Any deals right now on a 5500 for less than 800? Also I just read that the d5500 doesn't have external flash control. I use a yungnuo (?) external flash and this is a must use. Looks like the 5500 is out...
  9. I understand no bad blood toward you at all! I should've explained it better, I do take car photos but I also do photos/videos on the side. I have done photography sessions for clients. I just meant in my day to day I use it for car photos and on the side with videos at least once a week! I just want something that's gonna hold up and I was looking at upgrading eventually anyways. But idk. Maybe the 5300 is professional enough. I'd hate to spend 600 in another year or even 2000 in another year so idk. Tough desicion. Any other thoughts?
  10. .... I'm just saying. You're not being helpful and its not like I WANT to spend thousands of dollars but in lieu of the situation I'm looking at ALL of my options.
  11. Oh I will be able to, I'm just saying for now like the next 2 months I would have to get by with a kit. I feel like the d750 is a better investment for professional use though right? I mean whose to say in another year I have to drop 400-600 on another d5xxx body when at this point I would have 1200 in cameras in two years, as opposed to getting one good camera to last for a 2 years. Am I wrong? Also in my job I'm required to take 20-100+ pictures a day. Is it possible that the d52/3/500 isn't designed to be used for photos as strenuous as that? Or did I just get a lemon and should buy a 5300/5500?
  12. My d5200 has crapped out. I sent it to Nikon service center thru the store I bought it at, came back and the auto focus is still not working properly. I isolated it to be a body issue. I use this camera in my daily job to take car pics for a dealer, as well as for videos whenever I get the chance (shorts, side jobs, interviews). I need autofocus for pics as manual focus would take too long in the inventory I have to do. Seeing as I've only owned the camera a year I'm uncertain if I should invest in a d5300 like the one I'm renting (ends this weekend) or a more professional camera. What's the odds that a d5300/d5500 will crap out on me with daily consistent use in another year? If I chose the d750, I will have to get a kit lens to start as I only have a 17-55 kit, and a tamron 17-50f2.8 and a Nikon 28mm e series. The tamron I would need to sell asap and maybe get a 50mm for video to use. What would you do? I have to make up my mind today.
  13. I think I'll try this setup described, a main led light and a reflector plus a smaller light. I'm familiar with lighting setups and have used a regular umbrella light kit, I just don't own one and really want to up my lighting game (considering I'm used to relying on the on-location lighting...)
  14. I see! I've done some research but honestly I'm just a bit overwhelmed by the SELECTION of gear lol. Any particular brand recommendations for the setup you just described? Maybe all under 200-400?
  15. So what about something like the Impact kit from BH?
  16. I currently don't own a lighting kit. I sometimes do shorts/interview type shoots and I would like to have some lights for whatever else I shoot. I am looking at buying two led lighting panels in the near future. Would two aputure amaran 528's be get the job done? They are fairly cheap. Perhaps one in the spot version and one in the flood version?
  17. Ok I'm not shooting a motion picture But true 2 gh3's would give a nice 1080p image and run for longer than 29 minutes. But does anyone have any other suggestions? Maybe someone who has shot events/conferences?
  18. Nope it's a modern building. What about something like 2 c100s?
  19. Does anyone here have a suggestion towards a 2 camera setup for event coverage - particularly a church? At our church we have a 30-45 minute sermon so essentially it would be best to be able to record longer than the 29 minute mark. While our church has two canon camcorders (the consumer not the pro kind) setup on tripods- it feeds into a tricaster and the quality is horrendous. What would be a recommended two camera setup for events? I currently shoot on my d5200 to ensure we have nice video for our social media of the sermon, but as I only have a 17-50 f2.8 I must sit close and the 29 minute mark means I must time my stops accurately. Any suggestions? Low-mid-high budget...
  20. To slightly change the subject (Forgive me if I'm supposed to make a new topic)- I have a question regarding grading d5200 footage. If i'm correct (and I might not be), I use the EOSHD review's profile when shooting. Its a pretty "baked" in look obviously. I have premiere cc2015 with the new color grading tools. Sometimes I will add a lut at about 20% and it seems to warm it up. I know I'm not shooting LOG and there are no "rules" but is some (albeit limited) color grading allowed when using footage that is already kind of baked? I'm not takling about adjusting white balance but adding saturation, LUT's etc. I find when adding LUT's sometimes just a tad helps my footage look a little better and pop more.
  21. I see what you're saying..it would be great to have a b cam. Def not underestimating the d750-everything I've seen looks great.
  22. Hmm I'm not really sure to be honest. I suppose I could always just keep my d5200 for photography I actually use it every day for that in my day job. But like I said in my original post, I'm just trying to gauge where the market is not actually trying to buy yet. But yes it does seem like a black hole! But as far as video work goes I'm not tied to it.
  23. I'm not that far into my career so really just web videos these days. The highest I've gone on my Nikon was below 2000 ISO. I love shallow DOF. I actually also like the gh4 look but I think I'd miss the shallow dof. I actually just sold a 50mm 1.8D so maybe eventually I could invest in a few rokinom primes with a d750 or a new camcorder style body altogether. Man this filmmaking game is complex with endless options!!
  24. And you know, maybe I'll just pull a Simon Cade and invest in other things and keep shooting the hell out of the d5200. I could use some good lights, I'm gonna upgrade my audio gear soon, and I still need some basic film making gear such as sliders. (Bought a cheap one for $150 on Amazon when I first started and let's just say I won't be buying the cheap Studio Fx shit anymore )
  25. Ahh I had forgotten my lens was built for APSC sensors. Well maybe I've been doing it wrong but I always keep VC on and haven't noticed anything bad about it. Definitely seems to help me when I keep it on a monopod. The F3 looks too big for my tastes. The F5 looks amazing but I don't think I'd have the budget. Maybe I should think about selling my lens and factoring a new one into the cost? I tried eBay before (Craigslist takes forever in my area) but I couldn't figure out how to limit the buyers so only people with at least a certain score could bid, and I got a winning bid and the account was fake. That said what are cameras my lens would be compatible with then? Gh4, C100?
