  1. I’m definitely gonna try to shoot some video this holiday season and give resolve a run. I’m not cutting a major motion picture. I really just need a solid editor, with color grading/audio capability. Any composting or motion graphic ability is a plus too which resolve all has. I’ve heard that fairlight allows use of VST plugins which as an audio guy I have quite a few...
  2. Hey gang. I’ve beeen a premiere pro user since 2014. It’s the only NLE I’ve used consistently. While I want to keep photoshop/Lightroom for film photography scanning, I can’t afford to pay $60 a month for creative cloud. I downloaded resolve last night and edited some clips and it seemed simple enough. My editing machine is a very dated 2012 MacBook Pro retina i7 with 8gb of ram. If I make premiere work with my a6500 footage I should have a similar experience in resolve I’d say? As an unfamiliar resolve editor the main thing that attracts me is the price $0. What key differences are there between the two, and is there anything resolve is lacking?
  3. @TurboRat Funny that 16mm is something I think would be fun! I’ve heard the 18-105 isn’t particularly sharp and the focus distance isn’t great for bokeh otherwise I’d pick it up. I really miss having a wide. With the clear image zoom I think I could get by with just a wide angle and 35mm.
  4. It’s the perfect camera for what I need right now. I went with a native lens to give the Auto Focus a try and chose the Sony 35mm 1.8. Got it on eBay real cheap and I really like it. I’ve shot now about 6-7 videos with this combo and it’s a keeper. Recently did a big interview project and although I can’t share it on here, footage looked fantastic . It was the easiest interview I’ve ever shot. Used @Andrew Reid EOSHD and shot a combo of his baked in pro color profile and pro log. Just hit zone focus on the head and that is all I had to look at, the a6500 kept focus perfectly every time! Granted I lit my subject and chose the background/environment. Love this camera!
  5. @IronFilm wow man that was almost a year ago! Ended up with a Sony A6500 and couldn’t be happier.
  6. I have been a A6500 owner for about two months now and I’ve taken on a multitude of projects in all kinds of lighting. Love it...with the exception of the screen. Now I will say I love the EVF personally as when shooting outside, I’ll just hold the camera to my face adding a third pillar of stabilization. If I were doing this more often, I’d get an external monitor and be done with it but it’s a super versatile little rig!
  7. @DaveAltizer “I’m diving in, I’m going deep, in over my head I wanna be!” That’s Steven Curtis Chapman isn’t it?
  8. I recently used my Sony A6500 with a 35mm 1.8 (sony) for run and gun style interviews. Kit consisted of the following: Sony A6500 w/ 35mm 1.8 Tascam DR07 MKII with clip on cheap $20 lav for main audio. Takstar (Rode Video Mic Pro copy) hooked to camera for really decent scratch audio. If this was on a boom near the subject run into cam it would be perfectly fine. Lighting Kit consisted of availible light and Aputure 528S/198 panels. Quick and easy to get good quality. I was very happy with how all of it turned out.
  9. Just wanted to thank you guys for the support again. Finally got to work last night and yes as most of you said, since I knew where the starting audio point was by their mouth I was able to drag the audio perfectly in sync! Sidenote- this is the first time I’m using the a6500 for an interview project and oh my gosh, the easiest ever. No more riding the lens checking focus and worrying if the subject is out of focus. I used zone focus, hit their general area and I didn’t have to look again, my simple Sony 35mm 1.8 nailed it the whole interview! Boy would I have loved to have that shooting with a D5300 all these years (I did learn manual focusing so I have that to thank for the Nikon LOL).
  10. Thanks all I really appreciate the thoughts! I’m by no means a first timer at this but we were doing run and gun shooting trying to knock out as many interviews as possible. Normally I’m super careful but I’m this case when I do more of these later in the week I will have the talent clap for me- great ideas guys! Sidenote I used the Aputure 528s (or w, can’t remember) and it did a fantastic job of providing some fill against the existing ambient light.
  11. Perfect! The hardest part I suspect will be figuring out when I hit record on the audio and when the video actually hit record since it will likely be a bit off lol. Thanks
  12. Hey All, So last night I was shooting interviews with my a6500. All was going well, I was using my shotgun mic on camera for scratch/backup audio and my trusted combo of a lav into a tascam recorder for main audio. Footage looks great thanks to the a6500 but I hit a snag I didn’t notice until the third interview. Here goes... I realized my on camera shotgun was turned off so my dual system audio setup does not exist for the first two interviews. I’ve always just synced up in premiere but how hard would it be to manually sync up the audio with their mouth movement? I did a clap and maybe by some chance the on camera audio did record faintly something but I doubt it. (I should’ve had the talent clap, rookie mistake I know). Soo anyone ever fixed this mistake in post? Is it pretty simple? Really don’t want to reshoot this interview as this project is on a time crunch!
  13. So when shooting in slog 2 your zebras need to change from 70 +\-5 to 100 +\-5? @Andrew Reid does this apply to your ProLog S, s-log 2 based profile? I’ve really been loving the Pro Log Cinema profile for easy grading and exposing.

    A6500 AF-C Help

Any other ideas before I do a reset?

    A6500 AF-C Help

I could but ahh I’d rather not. That will be a last resort. It’s really odd. Like in manual mode it’s almost doing af-s style focusing with the shutter only. Idk. Hopefully I don’t have to reset it. If any of the above makes sense let me know. Otherwise I guess yeah I’ll just reset and go through everything again

    A6500 AF-C Help

Update: I’ve redone my custom settings but from video mode not photo mode. In manual mode the autofocus is still only working with shutter press or if automatic it’s uncinematic. I have no idea what setting I’ve changed but highly annoying! Any ideas? Focus pulling in movie mode and my custom mode is perfect however because the custom modes have now been remade from movie mode I can’t take photos. If anyone has any clue what setting I’ve hit from the gazillion setting options I’d love your help. Thanks in advance!

    A6500 AF-C Help

Help Needed! Ive been shooting with my A6500 all week on vacation and must have adjusted something wrong somewhere! I have both memory modes set to 1 & 2 with one being 4K 24p the other being 1080p 120fps. After mainly shooting on EOSHD pro color I’m finally giving pro log a work out. I’m loving the results. Unfortunately, today for some reason AF-C appears to not be working. In movie mode set to wide focus it automatically picks everything up. In M mode or my custom 1 mode, it won’t focus and will only focus with the shutter. I’ve tried adjusting a lot of settings. Any clues to get it to focus like in movie mode? I don’t think I’ve changed any af settings? Maybe I did? edit: the af settings are normal and standard nothing crazy. Any help is appreciated!! edit 2: also when switching to manual focus, it is now automatically zooming in; any idea how to turn this off?
  19. I’m looking at getting a Samsung usb SSD eventually. My g technology usb3 connection is getting a little wonky. I know in Andrews guide he mentions EditReady, perhaps I need to try that! I’m kind of tempted by Final Cut Pro X. Kind of...but I’ve been cutting in premiere for about 5 years and only briefly had experience in Final Cut Pro 7. Would be nice to get off the adobe train. Would I be able to get a cheaper Mac since FCPX is so optimized?
  20. Thanks for the thoughts Andrew. Loving your EOSHD PRO COLOR 3 profiles on it by the way.
  21. Thanks guys! Back to saving I go
  22. Then what are your minimum requirements? I’m actually not even editing 4K but my laptop struggles with handling 1080p (4K downscaled). I have to set it at 1/4 and color grading eats my machine alive. That said I priced out a Ryzen 5 1600 machine before at around $800 with a monitor including SSD drive, 16gb of ram and a 1050.
  23. @IronFilm Do you think an i5 7th gen with a 1050ti card is capable of handling 4K footage better than a 2012 MacBook Pro with a nvidia 650?
  24. While I don’t think I would want to go as low as a 3rd gen i5, it’s nice to see these examples. I wonder with the 1070 how’d they compare to modern consoles. i did find an Acer TC780 on eBay with a i7-7770 so almost current gen for $450. With a graphics card, ram (up to 32gb) and a SSD upgrade the value could be there for the right buyer! Im just trying to maximize my dollar as this is more of a hobby for me at the moment and I’m not trying to spend $1k or even $800. (That said with a monitor I’m at $600 so I might wind up just spending anyways but I don’t like to go into debt.)
  25. Premiere pro- sorry thought I mentioned it. current laptop is a 12’ MacBook Pro Retina with the i7 but the outdated 650 graphics card and 8gb of ram just can’t handle the footage at 4K or color grading as smooth as I’d like.
