  1. You sure the monitor locks in 1080p on the NX500? Because I have had no issues with ext monitors when I tested them on my NX500 but I cannot remember the brand names. Ninja2 only does 1080p30, got to use Atomos to shoot 4k with the NX500 external
  2. Come on now, stop trolling. The only thing the NX500 has over the NX1 is when you hack it to 1440p it will do a proper sensor read without the noise reduction crap, which gives you a fine noise corn even at higher ISO's although the ISO is horrid snowstorm at 3200+ ISO
  3. Definitely go for a cheap monitor if you do not plan on ext-recording and you can use the rest of the money for the NXL speed booster adapter and adapt any lens to it and make it future proof, he works on an electronic one and posted some results which are looking really good.
  4. Maybe I should take a third job so I can afford this one too, almost seems like its worth it
  5. Yeah I realised after I asked my friend about it, I am a moron the waveforms were on the camera not the Video Assist...
  6. It always had a waveform, it is not a complex one, if you want those really complex ones although I do not quite understand why you would want to use one with a mirrorless or a DSLR camera but each to his own, the biggest downside on the monitor is the lack of LUT support, that is a bummer for me but Blackmagic might add it in a future firmware.
  7. They updated it and included a waveform yeah. Well it only mattered if the Blackmagic was the same price as a monitor, but if it is cheaper then get it, I have no experience with Lilliput or Ikan maybe someone else does? A recorder is useless if you only plan on using its screen.
  8. The Blackmagic Video Assist 1080p one is actually 495 dollars so it makes no sense to buy anything else as the Blackmagic one has Waveform and everything else including Zebra's, 1080p recording to ProRes basically you get more for the same price and it is better build quality and it does audio. So basically, if you need a monitor and absolutely have to spend up in the 300 - 400 price range, the Blackmagic one is the only one that you should be focused on unless you need a very big screen but then again I do not buy anything made out of plastic and take it out in the field unless it is for studio use strictly.
  9. Does not the Noise Reduction kick into high gear at 2500 ISO?
  10. @sidi If someone made a feature film that would go on the cinemas around the world and they used a Samsung NX1 to make it all, Samsung would open their greedy eyes, hopefully. But until then, lucabutera and many other have contributed greatly after they completely closed their camera section probably sold it off to the North Koreans for all we know. This reminds me when the Sega Dreamcast was tossed aside by Sega for no reasons, sure it had low sales just like NX1 but the fans were the special kind, the kind of fans you simply just do not get when you sell cheap toasters, no these fans they keep the device alive for years to come on their own because they like it that much, that is the very testimony to a WELL designed, WELL built, and WELL engineered piece of electronics device. This actually reminds of the Soviets, when the freaking Lada design would still be made well into the 90s, it just worked that well, we still had them on our roads when I was small competing against modern Volvo's and Toyota's.
  11. Blackmagic Video Assist is actually and probably THE best external recorder right now, the build quality is superb and the interface is as one expect, very solid and touch friendly, beautiful display and supports NX1 and NX500 at least in my tests but ask Blackmagic just in case. But to answer your question, no. But like you said, your partners need ProRes, and shooting with Samsung in-camera colours and outputting it to ProRes could be many, MANY hours saved in not just grade but conversion as well. And this alone is a huge advantage, another point in using an external recorder besides the dual purpose screen is also the fact that you can record audio to it! Why audio you may ask? Because it is a known fact that the audio in the Samsung cameras are "#&%"("#!) and you really need to watch those audio levels like a hawk, if it goes a bit over you are screwed big time, it works fine for me on regular use but the first time the audio fucked me over big time because I assumed it worked like my GH4 which it did not. So basically, because the Blackmagic Video Assist is SO cheap and so well built, one may ask why not? But if you really just want the ext recorder for better video then no not worth it, but on the longer run it may be if you plan on getting a GH5 or something although it wont support 6k video or 2160p60 so there is also that to take into consideration. This is my opinion on an external recorder for the NX1 anyway, for the NX500 it only adds ridicules bulk to the camera. But if I wanted audio features I would use the Blackmagic, and yes I have tested the Blackmagic and the Atomos Shogun, the Shogun is shit with terrible build quality and the battery life is horrible worse than a Sony A7s in the heat avoid it like the black death.
  12. Looks like a normal grade to me, you should try some high contrast scenes with a lot of details although that one girl had a shirt with quite a lot of details which it seemed to handle just fine. I would suggest you do what I did, show the before and then after because sometimes it is a bit hard to see how much grading was done if you know what I mean, was the skin colour made reddish on purpose? There is a strong magenta colour in the entire video.
  13. I think that has more to do with with the limit of the Atomos Ninja 2, I had a look in the manual of it and found that it does not support anything above 30fps in progressive scan. Only the older Samsung cameras can do 1080 interlaced, so that is your problem you are trying to receive an interlaced signal but the camera has none, there is no interlacing settings in the NX1 nor the NX500, you would have to buy the vintage dinosaur called the Canon 5DM4 to get interlaced video analogue style, jokes aside, the recorder does not support 60p only 60i and the NX500 only shoots 60p and no 60i, I hope that helps EDIT: It is easier to just shoot 1080p60 with the hack in-camera instead of slapping on the external recorders, the only point I see is if he needs an extra monitor or needs multiple audio sources as the Ninja 2 apparently can do 4 audio tracks.
  14. That was quite amazing, I liked the videography it had the documentary vibe to it, the colours however were the nicest did you shoot this in Gamma DR?
  15. The Shogun works just fine on the NX1 and NX500 although utterly useless with the bitrate hack, the Blackmagic Video Assist also worked on my NX1 and NX500 when I tried it from a friend of mine who owns it. Although I do not know why you would want to use an external recorder with the NX500 over using the bitrate hack? It basically yields the same results except one spits out H265 and the other a big ProRes or DNxHD(R) file
  16. @lucabutera Thanks for the hard work Luca, I will buy one when I can afford it, hopefully it still on sale until then, I intend to keep this camera with me, I like things that works very well and I use them until they fall apart from age, your adapter will help me adapt future lenses to it. I look forward to an electronic adapter, that would be Christmas
  17. Definitely getting this adapter when my paycheck arrives, it will help future proof my Samsung so that I may use it 50 years from now on, aah do not worry guys Cannon will still be around making overly expensive cameras with dinosaur sensors and processors adapted from Pentium 2. People will still buy those like hotcakes
  18. How the F could they make it worse? The way it looks is not the issue, its those PAGES, just endless pages.... And with no touchscreen you just have to flick through each menu with a button.... Samsung did it right with their menu's quite early and even better with the NX30, the menu is simple, its touch friendly and everything important is on the top and everything not so important at the bottom. Panasonic and Canon also seem to get it somewhat right but never as good as Samsung
  19. The Panasonic GH5 made my panties wet in joy, 4k at 50/60p, holy smokes! HOWEVER! What is the cost? That is what I care about, if it is like 3000+USD then there is no point I might as well just go buy a pro video camera for that price that does 4k at 120fps with RAW video, sure its larger but seriously Panasonic slapped great features in their camera, if it cost the same as the GH4 and Samsung NX1 at launch, holy smokes! Reason I went with NX1 and not a pro video camera was the price, 2k for camera and lens, great deal for what it can do although not selling it ever, I like it too much, I will probably use it as secondary or for fun until either the NX1 dies or I die of old age.
  20. SMGJohn

    GH5 Prototype

Oh my heavenly God, if this is same price as the GH4 when it launched, RIP every other camera ever. I shall jump to Panasonic once again!
  21. Looks pretty okay, its a shame the audio is the first thing that really made me aware this is a low budget project, the audio is way more important than the picture itself, with poor audio the viewer experience can be completely ruined. The grading for me was quite unatural this really reminds me why I like older B-movies shot on film because colours are more natural, not the fault of camera more from the grader himself and just my subjective opinion. Otherwise, looks to be pretty aright they probably rushed it seeing someone said it was shot in just 4 days, quality tends to deminish when you start rushing things which is a shame but also a budget concern. Good effort though some very nice scenes, I liked the acting one should not set standards too high for movies with tight budgets, the story seems interesting as well. I would watch it if it came out on Blu Ray or DVD.
  22. Has anyone heard anything from Vasile?
  23. Hopefully Samsung stops being a twat and just makes the NX2 preferably in APS-C sensor cause the full frame is going to have shait rolling shutter unless they stuff two of their best cellphone ARM processors in the camera which will consume more power than a Tesla car. 2160p60 and 1440p120 with HDR or an actual proper LOG profile and high bitrate. I know they can do it, also is weird that they exited, everywhere I see and go their cameras are outsold, I checked an online store that had 20+ Samsung NX1, and then a couple of weeks after, they were outsold. Such a shame that no one else wants to make a camera like the NX1 even if it would sell like hotcakes.
  24. Are you talking about rolling shutter by any chance?
