  1. Horrible specs, I bet it still has terrible dynamic range compared to other cameras
  2. 16-50mm F2-2.8 works really well for everything I ever had to use, the 28 megapixels allows you to really crop a lot. Sports shooting you never really need high resolution anyway unless you plan on printing it on a billboard
  3. @sandro Yeah you need to follow your target with a manual lens and use a high shutter speed of course just cramp that ISO up max that is what they used to do in the film era, they used really high ISO film and used a high shutter, some would shoot 800ISO film at broad daylight just to get that fast shutter speed. There are restrictions that you must account for, with a digital camera you can just aim, shot and look at shot if you like it or not but with a manual lens/film camera you must aim for the perfect shot and kind of predict peoples movements, it is very hard to do but that is what I was told from old journalists who grew up in the film era and autofocus was not something they use back then even if they had the camera that could do it, the AF was awful back then. One of the journalists I spoke to documented wars like Yugoslavian civil war, Chechen war and Georgia and he said similar things but he had even harder time because there was a variable environment, you often would move indoors, outdoors all the time as you follow the troops around. So best to just use high ISO, set up camera for the lightning conditions and use a very narrow aperture with high shutter, thankfully you have live view on NX1 so it is FAR easier for you to get the shot right than these veteran journalists had to deal with.
  4. If higher resolutions than 4k is obtained, 10 bit colours internally and 422 even RAW video would make this camera useful for another 20 years. Remember that in the pro industry we use old cameras too even for big movies, I seen digital cameras from the 90s being used and those give you raw video. The first 4k camera is still being used actively in the industry and that one is almost 2 decades old, imagine that for a second, almost two decade old camera still being used. This proves that the latest and greatest is not always economically viable and even two decade old cameras can get the job done, not as good as the newest equipment but in the right hands can still do miracles, movies are never about the super image quality anyway, they are about the story they tell but the images needs to be clear enough this is why you cannot shoot movies on smartphone cameras and expect cinema quality video because they are too limited in what they can do. Otherwise we all be using smartphones for video work
  5. Looking forward to buy this baby so much, belive me I wanted this damn thing since I ever looked at the NX1 I almost did not even buy it because Metabones did not have any adapters for it but the specs pushed me. I honestly never seen a camera system receive so much community support as the NX1 imao. Those greedy peckers at Samsung ought to see how much people love their cameras and stop making their damn Galaxy S-infinitiv and make more Smart cameras, Samsung should have made an adapter themselves, I do not understand the reasoning not to, if they did more people would have bought the damn thing. Seems counter-productive to me to relay on third party manufacturers to do it for you
  6. It is quite a hefty price, but if I can use my vintage Soviet lenses on my NX1, yes baby, worth it for me. I have a bunch but I cannot use them because of the crop factor, they are quite soft when you crop. Originally bought for the Sony A7s which turned out to be utterly junk, only good thing about that camera was the sensitivity, no idea why anyone even likes it or gave it such a good review. If the smart adapter ever sees light, we can finally use cheaper lenses for NX1, I always wanted a really wide zoom one with 2.8 aperture, but there are none for the Samsung NX1, I have to buy 3 Lenses! Just to get those winder angles than 16mm, ridicules! Even GH4 has a super wide zoom. But thanks to Lucabutera, I can invest in more vintage lenses and even if my Samsung NX1 fails one day, I can just buy a much better camera if that hopefully exists in the foreseeable future and still use my lenses! Profit! Old lenses are really shit with crop factor because they are not as sharp and you always loose that delicious wider range they have, Soviet lenses have really funny distortions which also gets lost when you have a crop. But, thanks to Lucabutera, I can enjoy using them now, definitely picking this one up with my Norwegian OIL money.
  7. Amazing work as usual, looking forward to use some of my full frames on the body
  8. NX500 can work as a cinema camera just fine. I have had to work with old DV cameras from the 90s, its not the best equipment but you know what? It is what I had on me and I just had to make do with it. It is terrible that you got robbed, I hope you contacted the police and the fu(censor)ckers are caught, hanged publicly as a warning. So let us look at what the NX500 cannot do, well it cannot record audio from external microphone no 3.5mm jack in fact no jack at all and the USB audio wont work until someone hacks it. Neither will you be able to get Gamma profiles which lets you have very flat image, however you do get all the regular colour profiles. The NX500 neither does 120fps at 1080p nor does it do 2160p at full sensor readout but it can do 1440p at full sensor readout with hack although I do not recommend using it for professional work. What can the NX500 do then? Well it can record in UHD, it can do super slow motion albeit at 720p, it has very beautiful in-camera colours, the Samsung pro camera colour profiles are among the best in the industry for in-camera colours, each are like their own film stock. So use the NX500 like you would use a film camera really, you get what you shoot essentially that is not to say the NX500 does not possess a flat profile of its own that you can grade but honestly? This grading footage is getting overrated, its a lot of work and a lot of pain in the bum, use the in-camera colour profiles and you can adjust them in post. Trust me, the results will blow you away for what the camera can do. The NX500 is in a lot of ways a 35mm film camera, it shares some of the same drawbacks. It possess a huge variation of film stocks, it shoots high resolution (but with a crop) not a big issue really because wide lenses were hilariously expensive in the film days so they often used standard range like 30mm and 50mm. NX500 has the NX1's famous autofocus system you basically get a TV camera autofocus with a film camera, what is not to like? NX500 is also extremely light and small, it is VERY portable with a good OLED screen although no rangefinder which is a bummer. Can it reach cinema quality video? The short answer is yes, it can. The NX500 like any camera system can shoot a cinema movie it is just up to the skills of the end user, thankfully the NX500 is VERY easy to use it is just not the AK47 of camera systems like a NX1 for example although the BMPCC is INFERIOR except in grading to the NX500 but with the bitrate hack there is almost no contest anymore, you gain the details in the shadows, you gain a bit detail in the highlights (protect those highlights at the cost of your own life soldier!) Do I recomment you get a NX500? Yes, it is very cheap these days and while the lenses certainly are costly you can always get an adapter, the NX500's UHD crop almost reaches the same size of the MFT sensors. Is that a good or bad thing? Well I dunno, if you really need that UHD then I suppose it is but if you can work around it then really, the NX500 is the camera for you, I say its better than the Sony A6300 except in low light. ------------------------------------------------------ I really recommend you read this forum section if you do not believe me that the NX500 and NX1 is capable of the industry's best in-camera colours. www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/20370-nx-500-as-a-cinema-camera/
  9. It would be a gift from God if someone could make electric contact for Nikon speedbooster so the stabiliser at least works. But I am definitely fetching that dumb adapter non the less.

    Switching mods

KS2 mod does have bitrate, ou just gotta dig in the menu, look in settings or options. in KS2 mod menu
  11. The hack improves bitrate if you so desire, what that means is banding is almost eliminated and you get far better fine details in places specially shadows, there is a tiny improvement in dynamic range for light but nothing to preach about. The most changes are in the shadow because the HEVC compressed those to oblivion
  12. Those already exists for both NX1 and NX500, the NX1 by default shoots uncompressed whereas with the NX500 you can choose uncompressed or compressed
  13. Damn what a shame, I wish Samsung would have made smart adapters, not just would it been profitable but they most likely would have sold more of the NX1's and NX500's
  14. Thank you Lucabutera, I will definitely fund a fundraiser for that adapter, Nikon mount probably the best mount ever invented, its so universal. It would been cool if some of the people who tried working on an electronic Canon adapter for NX would join in the project if they are still around.
  15. Did anyone try to recontact Metabones or Fotodiox with this new discovery? I know Fotodiox has done a lot of high quality dumb adapters for the NX mount.
  16. Yeah I would also recommend the 45mm in this case, I tried it multiple times its a bloody well engineered and really does the job with the high resolution of the Samsung NX1
  17. I always use a 16-50mm lens with any camera system I buy specially the ones with a wide aperture, just more multi function I rarely find myself using anything else, I rarely ever need tele but I do find myself needing a wider lens though. So I am investing in a 10mm and a 12mm one, depend on your shooting style overall I would say, like me I mostly shoot very wide and only rarely do I ever need to zoom for a tight shot. But for a nifty fifty lens, I know some say that its good for training to what your eyes see but that is utterly bullshit because I see quite wide but if people see the same field as a 50mm then I dunno. Its extremely restrictive, I cannot find myself shooting like that specially when I shoot indoor in tight places the only option you get is shoot close up of peoples faces because you neither have space to move for a wider shot or space to move around as much. If you want a really wide lens I REALLY recommend the cine lenses for the NX mount or Nikon mount in fact since you probably do no care about the stabiliser or electronic control I would say go for Rokinon/Samyang/Bower lenses for Nikon mount, since almost all of them are for full frame there are also a few ones for APS-C size sensor for Nikon the really wide ones. Now why the heck would you go for these 'cheap' cine lenses, because they are unique, I know a lot of people say they are 'soft' and are overall poor quality but I have not experienced this at all in fact I think they are spoiled by the razor sharp images which is unnatural in my opinion. These lenses give you extreme wide aperture, very good price, built like tanks and I mean full steel body here so be aware of its weight, made in Korea, smooth aperture (If you buy the non-cine lens versions you can get a click aperture) Overall, if super wide nifty fifty is our thing, Rokinon/Samyang/Bower is the way to go and get them for Nikon mount with NX to F mount because Samsung killed their cameras this way you ensure your lenses will fit very well with your new cameras since Nikon mount is an universal mount.
  18. You should always as a rule include pictures when selling things, that way you get a higher chance of selling things, specially if its good pictures.
  19. I do not even like the Southern part of Korea, I prefer the one where they speak the old tongue. Most Japanese I know do not have much of an issue with Koreans, I thing its really blown out of proportion, its like they say, the loudest are oftest heard the most, I really wish they still do the NX2 though. I hope GH5 is APS-C, that be a killer cam!
  20. Can you test stability with 100/120fps at high bitrate? I had one corrupt frame at 160mbps with KinoSeed a while back
  21. Too bad no Samsung employee will leak the tools they used for NX1, or they probably ended up in concrete somewhere in Tokyo bay
  22. Thanks mate, I will try Vasile one the installation for NX Wake though scared me away for a second but if its speedy its all worth it
  23. Which one of the mods are the fastest one to load and most stable? Kino or Vasile? I could test it out myself but in case someone has it will spare me the effort. I am asking because I really loved the feature that the NX cameras were just instantaneous at start up it made me save a lot of battery power by just shutting it down everytime I did not use it even if it was just for a messily 2 minute.
  24. Yes, but speedbooster at least in my own findings only useful for MFT etc, APS-C already have a ton of lenses out there, of course speedbooster would be great if you own old 35mm SLR lenses, we just need a Canon and hopefully Nikon mount that is electrically compatible at least with stabiliser and aperture changing, the autofocus is not as important as those are already hard to get working to begin with.
