  1. I disagree, dude. I've got a pretty thriving business that's equal parts stills and video and the NX1 and NX500 do everything I need and more stills-wise. Fantastic dynamic range, high mp for great detail, wonderful adaptability for vintage lenses... Honestly what more do you need? This new speedbooster will only make things better, I can't wait to see how different some of my lenses look wider and a stop faster.
  2. If you're a premiere user, the new lumetri color panel offers a quick and easy way to nail this kind of look, you can just click the little color buttons on the wheel and boost what you want, and pull everything else down to full desaturation. Sometimes it works better than others though, for example on the two examples posted there might be red in the skintones that sticks around a bit. It is very fast and simple to use though.
  3. The EF mount that can then also be adapted to Nikon is a wonderful idea, in my opinion the best of both worlds really (that way I don't have to switch out all my FF rokinon EF glass for Nikon!) So @lucabutera what's your current thinking on a production-run of these babies? Is some sort of crowd funding campaign necessary in order to scale up production and secure orders? Let us know whatever we can do to help! Exciting times for Samsung-abandoned NX-users everywhere.
  4. I would assume that they're meant to work for either camera, since he makes no mention of master black level or gamma dr, which are the only video settings exclusive to the NX1.
  5. Even though I've been using Vasile's hack for quite a while now, I still follow Kinoseed's KS hacks Facebook page. Yesterday he posted the camera settings he uses, and I thought they were pretty bizarre/unique, certainly a bit different from what I expect most of us have been using. I haven't tried them or anything, as I'm perfectly satisfied with my current settings, but I am curious to see what such strange settings do to the picture, take a look:
  6. I gave up on using the gamma DR with green at 0.95 settings... all my footage seemed just kind of grey and lackluster with it, and after a while I decided that I don't think it's a good thing for the footage to mess with the RGB values in-camera like that. My favorite settings are still the Normal gamma, saturation -4, sharpness -10, contrast -3, master black level at 15. Flat-ish but still easy to expose, and super easy to get great colors in post.

Thanks! But I don't have a FF cam, all those were shot with my NX1

@kidzrevil I have the 50mm 1.7 and love it. I also heard it was sharper than the 1.4, which is why I got it. (It was also cheaper!) It's one of my favorite lenses for stills. I use it for video quite often too, but here's a couple stills I've taken that I think really show off the lovely rendering of this fine piece of glass:
  9. I don't have any experience with the A7RII but I use the A7SII almost daily at work; as far as I understand, the here are the main differences between the two: Pros of A7SII: Great full-frame look video, best in low-light, S-Log3 and other color gamut settings not available on a7rii Cons: Crappy/unusable video autofocus, (and if you're interested in stills as well, no phase-detect autofocus for stills, and of course 12mp is waaay less detailed than the a7rii's 42 mp) A7RII: Really good in low-light, really good video autofocus (the 'eye' autofocus looks very cool) but supposedly much better in cropped Super 35 mode than FF, so some people actually use a speedbooster on the a7rii in order to still get the FF look but with the benefit of the sharper image and better low-light performance of S35. Kind of crazy. So really, the bottom line deciding between the two, it comes down to this: Do you want really good full-frame video (a7sII) or really good S35 video (a7rii), and then whether or not you're interested in stills as well (a7rii all the way, in that case.) Good luck!
  10. I threw the .apk file for this app on my nexus 7 a day or two after that dude first posted about it on github and it worked pretty good! I paired it with my NX500 and had full video control, photo control, etc. For an alpha version, I thought the UI was really pretty slick too, I tried it with both manual and native glass, and I had an image coming onto my tablet from the camera just fine. It was quite laggy though, and definitely had some pretty bizarre colors, but I hope he keeps it up, it could be very useful if he gets it working just a little bit better. The more tech-talented enthousiasts that jump on the NX hacking train the better it will be for all of us!
  11. Oh, right, yeah my bad. I did think Mercer meant click stops.
  12. Yeah I have the SLR magic as well, I love it! A bit pricey (though at the same time if you're spending thousands on lenses, what's a hundred bucks or two to keep a good filter on the front and keep that image clean?) I use mine with xume magnetic filters on all my lenses so it's super easy to just snap it on and off different lenses in a hurry. I'm no color scientist, but it doesn't seem to leave any color cast at all (unlike my original horribly green cheap screw-on ND's) and there's also no 'X pattern' present at any point in the range like you get on a lot of variables. It doesn't have have hard stops, so it's nice and smooth, although it does have number markings which make it simple to tell where you're at. It's very easy to reach forward and fade brighter or darker for exposure control, especially moving into or out of a building/vehicle etc. for a seamless transition. I've owned used it on pretty much every shoot for probably about 2 years now, I did a bunch of research before I bought it, and it still seems like the best option today. My only complaint is that sometimes, shooting wide open on fast lenses in the middle of the day, I wish it was a bit stronger and could go just a little darker, but most of the time it's not an issue. The SLR magic rocks.
  13. @SMGJohn Yeah the README is definitely a little intimidating but Vasile just wanted to make absolutely certain that nobody bricks their cameras. As long as you follow the directions and don't skip any steps you'll be fine, I did it to both my nx500 and nx1 and have been loving it, the hack is super quick and responsive now.
  14. Vasile's new 'nx on wake' hack is marvelous... Camera behaves exactly the way it does without any hacks, super quick to turn on and off whenever, hacked bitrates are loaded instantaneously since we don't have to wait for Bluetooth to load like we used to (and still do with the KS mod). They've recently added some nice tweaks to the UI as well, give it a shot!
  15. @ricardo_sousa11 Thanks! When I see your grades it usually makes me think, "Whoa... are we using the same camera?!"... so I appreciate it, and great work on discovering these sweet settings! I look forward to seeing what you share next. For filmconvert, I used the Red Epic M/Redcolor2 - Redgamma profile in this case, and I was mostly playing around with the FJ 8543 VD film setting, with various amounts of film color added to taste. I've also been been using it quite a lot lately only for the grain, it looks better to me than gorilla grain or some of the other popular film grain overlays. Hopefully they hurry along with that custom-built NX1 profile they're supposedly working on, it will be interesting to see how well it works.
  16. @iamoui Thanks! Normal gamma, saturation -4, sharpness -10, contrast -3, master black level at 15 It gives the footage a really sweet look. even right out-of-camera and before grading. Way better than my old gamma dr settings.
  17. Ricardo is always posting such gorgeous framegrabs in this thread, so I wanted to give his settings a try for myself on my latest project... I'm really liking the way these are looking. (Graded with DeLuts and filmconvert)
  18. Well shoot fellows... if the couple of us that ordered stuff from Pixapro had waited just a few days longer we would have gotten a lot better deal! The pound is tanking right now after the Brexit vote. So it's probably a good time to buy if anyone's still on the fence.

What is the crop factor of an average c-mount lens? I've considered buying some before because I'm pretty sure they would work for 4k on the NX500 given the camera's extreme 2.4x crop and all, some of them look like they'd be pretty sweet to play around with. Has anyone tried this?
  20. I use the lexar 2000x uhs-ii card (64 GB) all the time at 200+ Mbps without any issues.
  21. Yeah, I'm in the US. I had initially ordered just the regular mk II, but then I changed my mind and decided that the + version would be better just to have the option for a battery if I ever wanted it (it was only $50 more, so why not. I ended up finding a cheap NPF to V-Lock converter so I can already use my existing batteries which is sweet) but anyway, I emailed them to change the order and they responded super quick and were honestly pretty great to work with. They told me it will post through UPS tomorrow and should be delivered to me within 1-3 working days, so pretty fast!
  22. Nice! I also ordered one today as well, along with the fresnel attachment linked earlier in the thread. Should be very versatile for my needs! I'm just curious though, where did you find the '+' version? I think I only got the regular mark II version, which is fine since I don't have any V-Mounts anyway, but still, I couldn't really seem to find it on their site at all.
  23. Wow how are you getting it that cheap? And with what discount code? I'd buy it in a heartbeat for $402 delivered.
  24. Yeah I've had my eye on that light for a long time but $70+ shipping to the US is a tough pill to swallow. Looks amazing though!
  25. Yeah, especially considering that whole exclusive selling deal Apple stores had with the phantom 4 for a couple weeks right upon release, which seems to indicate the two companies are pretty tight together... or at least much more so than other Chinese camera companies anyway, like Kinefinity, which has supposedly been struggling to acquire an above-board, fully legit pro res license for their cameras. Pro Res on the osmo would be sweet. As amazing as they are must be, those are some huge, heavy files to be working with all the time. Either way, these are exciting times! The price drop this product gives to raw-4k shooting aerial platforms is just astounding. DJI is rocking the boat!
