  1. Just got the Sigma 18-35 secondhand for less to nothing! Zoom rubber needs replacing though. I'm planning on partnering it up with the Viltrox EF-M2 0.71X, which should make the BMPCC4K about 1.42x crop. Anyone know if it works with the Metabones 0.64X (1.28 crop)?
  2. I was planning on just buying a bunch of Canon batteries to keep it light. But changing every half hour might drive me nuts.
  3. Just saw someone post this on FB: https://www.coreswx.com/product/pbe-bmpc4/ Claims to power the BMPCC4K for 4 hours.
  4. Glad to hear that. Was the first time seeing this dude's video. Was a pretty big claim.
  5. Don't know if this has been posted, but I thought this is pretty big news: the E-mount was actually designed for a crop-sensor.

    All things RAID

It's a windows laptop (i7, 960M, internal pci SSD, etc). It's fine for video work I've been doing so far, but I'm planning on moving to a desktop by the end of the year. Will do on the 10gbe card. Thanks! Good reminder. I'm definitely not planning on using RAID for Have you run into any problems using RAID 5 so far, any disk failures? I've not looked to cloud solutions so far. How much data do you store on cloud backup? I imagine it'll be quite hefty for video.

    All things RAID

So I finally understood what RAID was thanks to this stupidly easy-to-understand video. My photography work (my current line) has gotten to a point where each projects (raw, PSDs) easily reaches 100GB to 500GB. Most of my video projects till now have done using the NX1 and GH5. And I am working on a few short scripts that I'll be shooting with the preordered BMPCC4K (first time working on raw or prores). With those in mind, I was trying to figure out a way to move and work on data effortlessly. So this video was tremendously helpful in understanding RAID, which has always intimidated me, perhaps because the information I found till date were so fragmented. I was thinking of getting the Synology 8 bay NAS DiskStation DS1817+ (Quad-core 8-bay NAS with AES-NI support, with over 1,179 MB/s reading and 542 MB/s writing performance), but I'm not sure what speed I'd need to handle 4k and prores. Also, I was curious on what RAID solutions each of you are using and how the experience has been.
  8. Would I be correct in assuming that the Samsung T5 SSD (as a benchmark) would be capable for recording at uncompressed raw from the BMPCC4K?
  9. Man, did I just see a fiscal report? This thread has changed quite a bit. Had a question. The SanDisk 1TB is currently only USD199. Whereas the Samsung 1TB is USD329. Although my primary requirement is more for storage, I'd still like to be able to use it with the BMPCC4K if needed. Any reason the SanDisk wouldn't work as well as the Samsung?
  10. Think I just discovered the tele I'll be getting for the BMPCC4K: the Olympus M. 40-150mm F4.0-5.6 R at just $99.
  11. Beautifully put. I am a little fatigued by people nitpicking about a camera that is nothing short of a miracle at that price. In fact, option-wise, it's never been easier to be a filmmaker. I suppose one of the downsides of a forum largely focused on tech is, it becomes a vortex of endless demands and a mindset that the right camera is never in the present, but at a near future, just around the corner.
  12. I can understand that to a degree. I did for a long time want a DSLR that managed both great photos and videos (a small camera, in other words, like what you are looking for, and which is why I started following EOSHD years ago). Eventually Sony did release something to that tune, but the color science gave me nightmares. Although it's workable, I found it disagreeable to my workflow. And if you shoot regularly, starting off with a raw photo that looks completely off with its color can be tiresome. So I went back to the NX1: it's been brilliant. Even did a few videos with it. For more important projects, I just rent the Ursa mini, which does a spectacular job. In fact, the Ursa mini is hardly what I had imagined my "ideal" camera to be. In my head, that would have been a small run-and-gun, like the Sony A7R-series with 10bit log and Ursa mini color science (which we're probably 10 years away from). But for those delicious Ursa files, I was happy to give up my run-and-gun ideals. And if the rare project (in my case) demands a run-and-gun, I'd probably make up for it with a seasoned crew, or a gimbal + Canon/Sony, depending on the budget. The options are so many nowadays that even for those on a tight budget, we can still do great work pre-BMPCC4K/perfect-future-camera -- which I'm sure you know already. Perhaps you could let us know what kinds of projects you do, and how many times a month you shoot. Those would give us better insight.
  13. You missed out adding the options of 8K resolution, 16 stops dynamic range and a 5-axis stabilizer for half the price of the current BMPCC4K.
  14. Isn't the new BMPCC4K as big as a 5D, if not wider? The old Pocket, with a bit of battery rigging, isn't so bad if camera size and raw is what you need (without the 4k). It's also the only thing I can think of that is smaller than a 700d. What do you currently use?
  15. Would be tough at that price point -- and what it can do is already a miracle at that price. For ninja filmmaking, wouldn't image quality be not that big of a deal? And you still can do wonders with even a 10 year old camera. (5D mark II, I believe on this video.)
  16. I'm gonna get boo'ed for this, but it's the NX1.
  17. Actually having prebooked it, I'd like to have some lenses ready in hand when the camera arrives. Since a lot of the older lenses are quite cheap, I don't think it's much of a risk investing in them. This discussion was already going on in the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K thread. This is just an attempt to streamline it to the specific topic without having to read through over a hundred pages of discussion about everything Pocket 4k. ? Are these corrections done in-camera, or are they part of the lens profile that the editing softwares recognize (what Photoshop does in Adobe Raw)? Any experience with the Leica R's or Contax Zeiss? I haven't used either.
  18. Have officially booked the camera. Hope you guys have too. I'm trying to start a dedicated thread just for lenses you'd be pairing the Blackmagic Pocket 4k with (please include video samples of the lens in action) I'm strongly considering the Tokina AT-X Pro 28-70mm f/2.6-2.8 AF (making it 40-100mm with the Viltrox EF-M2 0.71X). The breathing seems minimal and the image filmic, a good candidate for short films. Next is probably the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8. (25.5-50mm with the 0.71x adapter). This should have me covered for a lot of future commercial work, where sharpness might be paramount.
  19. Lenses to go with the BMPCC4k needs a new thread. This is something I'd follow.
  20. Based on your level of knowledge, just go with a used Canon 70D and a kit lens. (If you want it compact, Canon M5.)
  21. Why couldn't you change the aperture?
