I'm considering getting the RX10II as a supplement to my documentary work, especially tele shots. I'd rather carry a small camera than a bigass lens to go with the full-frame/crop camera. Works fine as B-camera too.

Careful now. I've been hurt before.

So Canon's latest 3k+ camera can barely compete with an officially dead camera like NX1. Makes me glad to have decided to invest more in this dead system in the next few months.

I find my NX1 sings in situations unimaginable for my 7D or a 5DIII. Where I'd probably need a bracketed shot with the 7D (which I've always avoided), I'm able to accomplish it with a single shot on the NX1. Not that I'm a landscape photographer (nor are the photos HDR-esque). But urban and natural landscapes are an important element of a lot of my photographs, especially during challenging moments like nights. I'm really amazed by the difference DR can make. The world of ideas it's opened up for me.

It's the original batteries that came with the light (all bought from Amazon). Since they last insanely long, I've never needed to get a spare. And they were working fine until yesterday. I think the fact that we had to do like 6 different rooms in half a day, moving around, made it loose.

Not my greatest week. My Aputure Amaran HR672S , which I love, just decided to get funky in the middle of a shoot yesterday. My third time using it. But it was my first attempt at using it during an architectural photo shoot (or any photo shoots for the matter, since I usually go for strobes and speedlights). This light allowed me to use my beloved Samsung NX1, which has amazing latitude, but terrible low-light auto-focus. Towards the end of the shoot, two things happened: a) The back LCD died out. Suddenly I was left without any control over the brightness of the battery. It stays at max brightness. b) And it might be because the batteries are too big for a plastic casing that thin, but soon the batteries stopped working until you gave it a constant gentle squeeze. Any idea on what can be done?

I did try with 4 sets of freshly charged batteries (12 batteries in total). No luck. =( I'll probably have to join you in selling it for parts.

So my spare base plate arrived and it fits my DS1 perfectly! But now I have a new problem, it doesn't start at all. Pressing the button does nothing. No lights, no nothing. Just a terrible experience.

I'm with you. Aperture control alone would mean the biggest difference.

I find Gamma DR excellent for low light situations. The lighting situation was near impossible. My main light source being a tiny window, weather outside being cloudy.

Compressed raw, Sony's sensor and Pentax's price. Of course, none of it will happen.

He reminds me of those guys who feel the divine need to educate everyone, like those commenting on classical piano videos on Youtube screaming, "That's not how the composer intended it to be played!!!!!" Can I ask, how big are the 3:1 compressed raw files? Your video has me seriously considering the Micro.

So the seller, Owldolly, has concluded the problem with my DS1 after I showed them a video of the problem: They have been actually quite great about it so far, prompt in replying, even extending the return policy, too. Fingers crossed that it'll work with the new parts.

There's only so much one can be critical of Canon, really. It's like screaming at a wall. Also, back in the nebulous days of DSLR filmmaking, it was exciting to see higher video quality from small packages like GH2 and later Magic Lantern Canon. I guess we sort of have gotten used to it. Nowadays, even if Canon doesn't deliver, Panasonic, Sony, Blackmagic, and even Samsung have already jumped in to fill that void. It's come far from the GH2 days. I only hope the Samsung hack receives similar coverage from bloggers. It could be a big push to have that sort of coverage and enthusiasm that EOSHD did for the early HDSLR cameras.

Well, if only I could get the camera to stay on the DS1.

Tell me about it. My camera fell right after I locked it in tight the first time. Luckily I was sitting on the floor and my room's floor is carpeted. To be honest, I've gotten a better base plate locking system out of this.

Thanks, man. I couldn't quite tell what happened with his (video was difficult to understand, even at 1.5X, will rewatch it again in a bit). I've written to Owldolly, where I got mine from. Hopefully they have some sort of solution. The problem is, I live outside the States, so sending it back would be a super pain in the ass. I had my friend bring it for me (hence why it took long). The locking system is truly bizarre. Surely there are easier (better) ways to lock a base plate.

I'm having a bad experience myself: Step 1: Lock the base plate onto the camera. Done! Step 2: Slide the camera with the base plate into the stabilizer and tighten the lock. Done! Step 3: Test the ... oh wait, camera, along with the base plate, is sliding out. I'm going nuts.

Hi, guys, I wanted to know what sound gears you guys are using and are thinking of buying in 2016. Hashing these out would be helpful to those of us looking to add new equipment. So far I've been renting gear and hiring a dedicated audio guy, but I find myself wanting to learn and record bits and pieces whenever I have time, or even for one-man run-and-gun situations. My own focus is mid-level budget equipment. Zoom H5/6 looks good for the money, but I keep hearing the menu system is a little unnecessarily complex, when compared to similar budget recorders like Tascam. I myself would naturally prefer an equipment with an intuitive system. Any recommendations for a H6-level recorder with good preamp? With shotguns, I've found the Sennheiser 416 to be too unforgiving in tests, and am looking into the NTG-3, which I've never tried but heard great things about. Any preferences on blimp and windscreen? Lastly, I'm considering Juicelink's Little Darling audio recorder, as a substitute for the Sennheiser wireless. Would love to hear everyone's preference of lav mics.
