I never had any and I have 4 NX cameras. Very interesting questions though, hope someone will reply.

My business partner bought the a6300 for 1600€, body only (That is a lot of $, even more CAD and AUS ones) and now it is 900 with the - terrible - Paz lens. Funny thing is that he had to sold his a6000/Canon 6D and a couple of lenses for peanuts to buy the a6300. Similar story with A7 mk 1 cameras too.

@Andrew Reid all I'm afraid is Nikon to be afraid of "killing" their own dSLR line. For me mirrorless is a certainty, I can not see myself buying a dSLr for any reason, in the near future or later. I am not sure they can bring dual pixel AF, but I am pretty confident that they will have the second best AF in business. Depending their other features, second best can be good enough (I am a Canon dual pixel AF believer myself!) to produce the best full frame mirrorless to date (I am a super 35mm guy, but with a S35 crop mode, Imwouldn't say no). The other thing I am most certain, is that a Nikon mirrorless will be Nikon compatible from day one, even offering the adaptor included with the camera. The rumors are talking about a very "sophisticated"(sic) one, and Nikon is well known for their lens mount continuity. I am also a native lens believer, I want native lenses for whatever camer I use, so their mirrorless offerings will be very important. From rumors and patents we have seen, they are up for some very original stuff. I always admired my photographer's friends Nikon color science and lenses, maybe we will have a chance soon! I really hope so, but I am expecting Canon to knock back, but Canon has more lines to protect, so they may not knock back hard enough!

I just wish Nikon will go all in with their mirrorless, and give them some extra video features. Their arrogant view of how they are far superior and more pro orientated than the rest of the industry (except Canon) is based in their 60 years of excellence, and they do perform, We can say whatever we want about the Canonikon, but they certainly make things work. Less bitrate, less features, more expensive, but their images deliver the goods. Nikon did some QC mistakes as of late (something that Canon didn't), so I wouldn't be a first adaptor, but if they are careful, they can deliver the mirrorless to rule them all; and push Canon to do the same, and then we are all happy with incredible hybrid cameras!

Logical exercise: Make a camera B with 20% more features than camera A, that costs 20% less than said camera A.

1100€ is the mix pre 6, if it is around 1999€ that would be great! Dugan would be perfect, but there is too much to ask, I can live without, I have never used any of those before anyway, feel like AF, it is good to have, but I almost never use it anyway. USB stick recording it is just awesome. You do not need a second sd card slot anyway, and it is directly plug n play. You do not need even a card reader! The only thing I am sceptical about, is the joystick that play/rec/stop. I am not sure how reliable and tough this is. First time I've seen something like this. Do not know what is the deal with, but SoundDevices brand is relentless!

I am 100% that there is no scientific proof of G(g)od's (or plural Gods) existence, or the opposite. For me both are equally possible. In anyway, if they/he/she/it exists is beyond human comprehension, so they/he/she/it will know what to do with me, without expecting much! I prefer to concentrate on humans, and their behavior, animals, plants and this planet. Whatever it is, this is it. You can not put any more coins, but you can just eat a few mushrooms I guess, they can make you bigger and blinking in retro NES quality! Also is true, something we don't know yet, can become common knowledge and a scientific law, not much later. Alchemists and wizards were scientists of the past in primitive cultures. Imagine your grand grand parents visiting you from the past. My grand mother is 95 years old, they were litterally living in utterly poverty. They had limited primitive tools, her father fought 4 wars and her husband (my grand father) 3. Just watch the last Simpsons episode to get a glimpse of a few centuries back. We are living in exciting times, the best ever in knowing history.

Slow-mo shootout - which camera gives the most detail at 120fps?
Kisaha replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
@kidzrevil NX1 has been tested, above a couple of cameras, certainly above a6500 which is dead last. And I quote "Canon 1D X Mark II 7/10 – Quite soft with aliasing issues – could be better but nice dynamic range Samsung NX1 7/10 – High detail but high aliasing. I do like it though. Sony A7S II 6/10 – Soft with a crop, not exactly a stella performance Sony A6500 5/10 – The softest yet also the one with the most aliasing, so clearly the worst of the bunch" The question of @SMGJohn was about moded NX1, that as we know can increase bitrate to at least 160Mbps stable, on H265 (since 2014, as Andrew mentions in the same article). Normal PRO bitrate is 80Mbps. -
Usually, specific organizations, networks, media outlets have specific requirements. You should speak with them. Meanwhile, start experimenting, lower sound quality, maybe frames, and bitrate for sure. 10MB sounds like something from the 90s (Real player like!), or something from the future/present (H265 can make it possible).

My opinion is that new A7siii camera MUST have 10bit and HDR (and H265 in some form). These are the new video standards, GH5 has them, everyone should follow. Processing power is not a problem, there is plenty in this world, fast writing speed and memory too. The key is thermal management. Even gaming laptop's only problem is how to keep -relatively- cool, not computing power. GH5 went to dSLR lengths (size, weight) to fight those limitations, and on a smaller sensor. I am just waiting to see Sony's (and the others) move in this new age of videography. 4K will be enough for traditional filmaking in the next, many, years, HDR standards are here, and in my opinion they are here to stay. I am not sure Sony were ready to fight the "all-in" Panasonic attitude, whatever they had ready, they are back in the lab. A9 is a good indication of what is coming, it certainly is a notch or two better than A7 series, by design and a couple of other things.

It is just unbelievable. I'm speechless. What is the price anyway? I can't seem to find a valid reseller in Europe. @IronFilm what do you think we are missing now? Timecode is there, usb backup is there, yet else? That certainly will eat from their pro range. It is scary to see what the next 6xx will have..

@lucabutera what are the improvements so far Luca?

Guys, just pick 1 lens! If I was about to choose 1 lens per system, that would be quite a big list. For a lot of years, the Zenith 55mm, Pentax 55/1.8f and the FD 50 1.4f were my favorite ones. The 45mm.1.8f NX replaced all of them at once. It is pretty obvious that people using the NX1+16-50s known what I am talking about. I would dare to put it against the magnificent 18-36, as the S is wider, with 2f (almost as close to 1.8f as it gets), and when it starts loosing the edge because of the faster Sigma, it eases the loss a bit, going up to 50mm (24.6-77mm vs 28-54equiv.). Those extra 3 point something mm at the wide end are extremely valuable for my style of shooting, and I can go to a short tele 2.8f range instantly. I haven't used the Sigma extensively, but I didn't find it that extraordinairy against my NX lens(es). People with more experience to both,.are very welcom to comment.

Why I feel Panasonic treats all but GH5 users as a second class
Kisaha replied to Amazeballs's topic in Cameras
I tried, but it is really messy on Android. I was working in Monemvasia (google it) in Southern Greece, and I will be off my base for this week, so I must stick to Android for now! The article is really interesting though. Cheers Iron! -
@kidzrevil How much you go up in ISO Kidz? When I shot NX1 I go 1600, and sometimes 3200 maximum (rarely, 3200 is not good at all), while friends with a6300/a6500 go up to 6400 easily. This is somehow balanced when I use the S lens that starts from 2f, and the primes (1.8f, 2f) while most of the Sony owners use the 18-105 4f. What is your opinion about the difference in ISO for those two cameras (NX1 vs a6500)? What about your Panasonic vs NX1 vs a6300? Cheers.

Yes, mixpre6 is an amateurish/semi pro device with the best mic amps/limiter/headphone amp in the market(for its price), and capable of being a really good and useful usb interface. It is a stretch for as, pro soundies, but good for smaller jobs/budgets or as a backup. If you already own Zoom 4/8 there is no need to worry, but as I have been left behind with the older Tascam generation, a mixpre6 for now, until a newer and better 6XX shown, is maybe my best bet. A 664 is what I really need, I said 633 because it has a friendlier price tag to my budget! Zaxcom is always an option as well, but it is around 20-35% more expensive than Sound Devices with Lectros/Wisycom/Audio ltd solutions, and if you have to spend 15.000$ for a good starting kit, 30% is a substantial increase in budget. I love Sonosax's minimalism though!

Sometimes Nero offers me whatever I need, and it is cheap and easy and very straight forward. Encore is next, but I haven't paid (and use it) for a couple of years now. For bigger jobs I outsource the procedure, anyway.

I played a bit with the previous version and I went back to my bad old Ad Pr. The software ain't there yet for me to change completely my workflow. I was hoping the latest version would be much improved, as I could be able to edit some basic projects on the free version. I will be looking forward for the next version now. At one point, it may be the king, and for cheap.

That is so interesting! I hope that is true, as good as the Mixpre6 is, is missing some features for strictly professional use. I could spend double the mixpre6 money for just a few additions more, and probably better build quality and double sd card slots. A new 633 would be perfect as well.

@Emanuel I totally agree with you. The first and the best, so far. But the next best hybrid isn't here yet. GH4 was a groundbraking camera back in the day, but it was the first; after a while the NX1 came and it was better in most aspects. GH5 is great, it is pushing the envelope again, but someone else will bring a better version soonish. I do not do 10bit, do not have the workflow and I do not need it right now for my projects, do not even do any 4K either. There are a lot of GH5s around me that I can use whenever I want anyway. We just finished a TV show with 2 of those (and I influenced that decision too) and a very good friend (DP) just bought one last week. I would expect Fuji or Canon to deliver a much better camera in end of 2018 and Sony is ready to unleash their new A7 series, while there are a few good video cameras out there. I will play the waiting game with this. I prefer holding on to something and make the most of it, than resell on a year.
-
As I went with my humble NX1 in the previous post, the 16-50s is my natural selection. OIS, 2f to 2.8f, very fast focusing, 24-77mm.

Why can't we have an action camera with a bigger sensor??!!(m43 cameras cost less than hero6) Sony (again) is in the right track I guess, just not good enough yet. Mi is doing interesting action cams for very competitive prices. DJI?

Even 1 camera for a year ain't happening, as most of us use a lot of different cameras per year (and per job). On such exercises, the easy approach is to choose the latest tech, obviously, as NX1 is a camera from 2014, a not released yet camera will offer all the latest and greatest, it certainly is more futureproof. But..if we make this question next year, probably EVA and C200 will be surpassed by someone else; maybe Varicam lite for 10.000€, or JVC LS3, a 5.000€ camera that has it all, or Canon C400- which 4 is the lucky number of eastern Asians, or Black Magic Mini Ursa Pro Ultimate edition with 8K sensor and great low light perfomance. I have no personal connection with any of those cameras yet, they ain't my buddy (well, I know they are tools!), haven't shot with on scorched hot Mediterenean summer days, not in snowy mountains, not in never ending working days, not taking pictures of my newborn baby, my family, myself, my best friend's weddings (as a present). EVA and C200 for me are hypothetical tools, such as the camera I AM STILL WAITING FOR, C100mkIII, my hybrids are real and I know what they are capable of, and they have always delivered. If I was to stay with a human for ever, I would choose my wife, not a model I saw on Fashion TV. My wife is battletested and performed and delivered in the most difficult tasks and life adventures, a real hybrid! (I could put C100/C300mkII there too, but I choose the hybrid. The camera, not the wife!).

Just try, and do. There is no other way around it. Watch classic documentaries, read a few books, be a more complete person, amd decide what kind of documentaries you want to make. There are dozens of different styles and hybrids between them. A lot of times someone started a documentary for a reason, and found out a different sub plot with more filmic value, or a more important story, or the real deal revealed to him after.
