  1. @Beritar GH5 has the advantage of 10bit video and IBIS, but everything else, NX is better. It is even lighter and smaller, something that was the comparative advantage of m43 since its conception. GH5 is a great workhorse camera though, hugely respected and admired! I do not understand how people have C200 and EVA in this logical excercise, cameras that most haven't even touch yet. I would expect more personal replys (like @IronFilm 's!! +1 ) than "hypothetical" cameras we have seen on Vimeo just.
  2. If you do gimbal work the 16mm could be convinient to have. 30mm is very sharp/tiny/super light to complement your NX500. 45 is my opinion is one of the best NX lenses available and 1.8f at 45mm while thr S is 2.8f (it is not much, but in practice does matter a bit). You have to keep at least one out of the three.
  3. Hm..I see VR and 360 video to be a necessity as we going forward, and those 2 need a lot of resolution and a lot of processing power, so I see a lot of things change in the next couple of decades.
  4. The president has been elected by the votes of the citizens of the US, but I know what you mean!
  5. @Thai Kiên Triệu This is a serious A-B camera combo, you got there. And cheapest in industry, as it seems. I wouldn't sell all my primes though. Think about it first. Which ones do you own?
  6. Certainly Canada and New Zealand seem like the best places to be right now, NZ more so; and if I continue with my favorite habit of generalization, NZ will be the promise land of the 21 first century. (DISCLAIMER: generalizations occur on a general discussion, we are talking about trends and everchanging "flows". Of course every country has its own history and path through the centuries, and something that happened in antiquity, or the middle ages affects the cultural and political existence of todays nations. Sorry if anyone felt that I did an unfair comment, I try to look things through historic perspective and above reality, but one can not avoid generalizations on such a broad a complicated matter as nation and/or countries identities. That is what we do in documentaries, don't we? Take a generalization and make it a valid point).
  7. Video is my profession, but photography is my hobby, so I would choose a true hybrid. Samsung NX1 ticks the most boxes for me. H265 video, 4K/30p, 1080p/120frames, DIS, a nice collection of native lenses (10mm fish eye, 30mm pancake, 45mm, 16-50S the ones I most use). 28mpxls BSI APS-C sensor, 15frames, great ergonomics (if not best in class), a modern AF system (even for video, but it starts to getting old now, still relevant though), great battery life, great touch screen, UI. That's why I have two!
  8. @DamphousseSo, you do have a problem with my choices. You made a lot of assumptions about me just because I do not follow the EF mount. That says more about you than I need to know, but for the shake of it.. 1) I lived in England for 5-6 years, the party that you call "Liberal", the Liberal Democrats, are dead center. The conservative party, is called Conservative and Unionist party and it is a centre - right political party. With Brexit, the rise of xenophobic parties in Europe, the rise of fascism and far right organizations and political parties, the centre right in Europe, is leaning more to the right (so to not loose a lot of voters from the further to the right parties). 2) the governments in power on a democracy do just that, represent the opinion of the general population. 3) I talk mostly about Europe, as you have noticed, and the Western world in general. All western world (and ex- eastern) influenced political parties have something to do with the left and the right. 4) that is very complicated to explain to you, it is not their fault, certainly, but there is cause and effect. "when it is time to upgrade", ain't now, and I gain all kind of things (money on jobs, personal pleasure taking pictures and photos with friends and family, etc), so I am already on the plus side, while still there isn't a better Canon APS-C camera, while EF lenses are full frame, and EF-M is the Canon mirrorless system.
  9. @Damphousse Only in the 80's and early 90's we had a strong socialist (centrists, and with a tiny tiny amount of leftists in some cases) movement in Europe, since the beginning of the 20th century most governments were to the right, or far right, or fascists, or dictatorships. People are "conservative" by nature, they afraid change, the different, the unknown. Have you seen the animation "Croods"? If you were leaving your cave, weren't very super careful, then you were possible food for a more advanced predator. That is written in our DNA, like a lot of our primeval fears. Nothing wrong with Canon and Nikon, my favorite video cameras, are Canon C series and most of my photographer friends own Nikon. I have 4 NX cameras and 8 lenses, I hope there is nothing wrong to that either.
  10. @IronFilm Wireless is a nightmare for me! So much expensive, when sound is not paid that well. I saw your rates on your site, I know they are NZ$, and life there must be slightly more expensive than here (and I am not that sure to be honest), but those rates are impossible, while we have to pay 52-78% of our income to the government, because they can't control the real tax frauds. I am using as much as 5 simultaneously (and 1 for backup purposes), plus 1 boom. It is not the norm, but this is a very popular show on a major network here. The presenter will do a big show on an exotic island, and after that there is a possibility for another 22 episodes of the one we did, so we have to back up Sony kits, and as we must have at least 6-7 kits, with the possibility to damage some (they are brutal on the transmitters and their mics) we couldn't afford anything more expensive. I do not have anything to say to really fault them, they survived this 10-14 hour per day, for 40 days video marathon, and delivered. The only serious problem I had, it is their range, as they are 30 or 35mV and can't really compare with anyone really! I wish they were 50mV, but for the price, we have had something to give. I have heard about those Oscars. Are they seriously that good? We have a few DPA, but they are more delicate for such a project, and we don't have so many anyway! I am consider the Sony ECM_77BMP, they used to be old school standards, but I am not sure if they worth it right now. They are a bit less expensive than the Sanken I was considering though, and can buy ready for use on the package I am mentioning right now -------> The pro version I meant is this one https://www.bpm-media.de/en/ENG-Live-Production/Audio/Wireless-Systems/Wireless-Audio-Sets/Sony-UWP-D11-K42-Pro::370759.html it is the same as the ones you have, but it does include an additional mic, this https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/161264-REG/Sony_ECM_77BMP_ECM_77BMP_Lavalier_Mic_with.html It doesn't worth to buy anything else by Sony (or Sennheiser for that matter), when you use the P03D with 2 transmitters ain't true diversity anymore, and for a professional sound person (like us!) that is a no go (that is why it is so cheap). Also the similar Sennheiser line is old news right now, and the AVX series is for cameramen. The one I would be saving money for, will be this https://www.canford.co.uk/WISYCOM-WIRELESS-SYSTEMS-Radiomics it has the widest bandwidth, and they are becoming more and more popular in Europe at the moment. The only feature they do not have is the ability to record on the transmitter (Audio LTD does in Europe, of course Zaxcom). They are a bit less expensive than similar Lectros. Zaxcom are extremely expensive here.
  11. @kidzrevil If you want a full frame look why not to buy a full frame camera? A7Sii is cheap as chips right now and I consider it a far better video camera than the smaller Sonys. aesthitically, it looks awful by the way! It seriously has the worst looks, and more importantly - because I like utilitarian form - if it works, the worst ergonomics. I don't like the "full frame" at all by the way, s35 is my thing.
  12. @Oliver Daniel We use 2 GH5 on a TV series right now (I do sound, but me and the DP were responsible for equipment choices) and we had the opportunity to rent or use a lot of different set ups. Finally we decided on the GH5 with the Olympus 12-100 4f, Varavon Zeus cages, and the Olympus fish eye. It is a "street" show with famous(famous here) chefs involved, so there is a lot of walking and run n gun type of shooting, so the overall size/weight ratio, the 24-200mm equivelent with just one lens, and the ok (for the type of show) 10 bit format were deciding factors. Also, instead of renting something else, the production company bought the whole setup. A6500 is a typical Sony "jack of all trades, master of none" machine. There is almost nothing that does best (low light performance maybe, but Fuji uses the same sensor anyway) and in some very important aspects is worst in class (ergonomics, battery, thermal management, native lenses = Canon M is worst here though, etc). I would never consider the A6500 as a real pro tool, even in weddings most of the people I know, after the enthusiasm of the beginning, are starting to stop using them (some even use GH4s speed boosted as a B cam). The 18-105 is amazing for the money though.
  13. I know from Canadian friends that Lozeau had a healthy stock of NX things. They had bought a lot of stuff from there. As I have never visited Canada, I know nothing about anything, just that!
  14. We were making "film" back in the day, not video! My 3 years old phone has better video than my first video "camera" in the 90s! @Amazeballs my posts just trying to put things in perspective. I understand your enthusiasm and need for better, and cheaper, equipment, but innovation and adaptation by the masses are not a given, and can't happen instantly. There are many reasons for this. Majorities are basically conservative (that is why in democratic countries conservatives/right wing parties are the norm, and a few billions of people do not even have democratic/forward thinking political systems), and they do not adapt very well with new and ground breaking technologies, one of the reasons that Canon is still number one, and in most parts, Nikon is number two. Their products work, and do most basic things good, and photos and videos just look good to most; also they have a history that people can connect with. Then, companies spend a lot of money on R&D, Canon probably spent a few good years, and put a lot of resources on their Dual Pixel AF, they had the pleasing colors, and they bet on AF second, and they won that bet. Now, they have to cash on, and make money, to turn some resources to something else (my guess is thermal management, GH5 is as big and as heavy as a dSLR to not overheat). They can't instantly sell for cheap, something that is putting them ahead of other competitors, that spent so many years and resources to make. Panasonic worked a lot on codecs and thermals. Sony is working on sensors and cheap bodies. Fuji on a complete ecosystem (lenses)and trying to up their game in video. Nikon does nothing. It is called evolution, it took billions of years and a chain of events for us to chat on this forum, just chill for a couple of years, try not to destroy the planet, and your next tools will be much better than the ones you have now; Or that is what the last dinosaurs were discussing before something fall from the sky. [the new Star Trek Discovery looks promising, by the way]
  15. There is something weird going on from time to time, like the image goes "tick"! it could be that new IS mode. AF looks good, too wide of a lens though.
  16. @iamoui ..and those are some of the best news regarding equality of sexes I heard in 2017! I read this the other day, victims have names, faces, lives, are not just numbers http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/life/raped-never-spoke-one-day-work/
  17. Even 900$ is a silly number. You had to pay double the money a couple of years ago for similar things, triple the money for much less 5 years ago, before that most things that it does weren't even possible. Canon's latest M cameras cost as much, or more doing much less (except Dual Pixel of course). You have to put things in perspective. For some, GH4 is still the second best m43 video camera, with even 10bit capabilities. GH5 is as new as you can get. There is a 2 month waiting list in my country, I do not see a GH6 possible for at least 2020, but I see a couple of more significant hardware updates in the next couple of years. Firmware 2.0 it is just out by the way, and tell me what other camera does all those things for less than 1999$. Only Sony is close to reach Dual Pixel, and all their latest cameras are nowhere near the Canon AF experience.
  18. @jcs the only spec that Audix is better than the Neumann is its sensitivity (which is not a small thing of course). Neumann to me sounds a bit more "Schoeps"-esque. I have never see/hear the Audix from close, but from samples I have heard it has some more coloration, which bring's us to.. .. in our industry here, productions favor specific "sound", and the "Sennheiser" sound is the most sought after. There is just limited sound post production, definitely not much EQ-ing and the such (except films). Plus, Sennheiser microphones are tough as nails, and work in most conditions. Very quiet, and very sensitive too. I am really tempted to go with the Audix for now (the plan is to keep it as a backup or B kit, and move Oktava to C option, eventually), I have heard some of your stuff you have posted before, it is just I haven't seen, or hear any personally! @IronFilm those stock Sonys are really good (for what they are)! Just finished a TV series for a major network here, and it was almost live TV, had 2-3 presenters at all time, and a couple more random people, plus boom (416 outside, Oktava in some interiors, but inside it was mostly radios). It was a nightmare to shoot, and Sonys did the job. 1 of the Sony's kit broke (we had 6) so I am consider buying another 2, the pro version with the better Sony capsule. I was that impressed. That, about waiting for the better mic, is a very wise advice though. How is the saying. Buy cheap - buy twice?! cheers guys, good to talk some sound here from time to time! what camera the webisode was shot, then?!
  19. @IronFilm what lab and int mic? I am still trying to decide what is going to be my next int mic after my Oktava. Audix/Neumann MT 185, or sell a kidney and buy the MKH50 (it is 1600€ here. Do the conversion and you will be surprised! More expensive than Schoeps)
  20. I say again, the Olympus 12-100 is a great lens. Check the GH5 IBIS with this lens before you decide, it is good enough for most things. It feels like a real lens with a constant 4f and 24-200 equiv. Small, light, good looking (!)Really a gem among all systems.
  21. I do not even own any Panasonic, but they are clearly the spearhead of innovation and features, especially for video. seriously, for less than 2000$, what else the GH5 DOES NOT have? Also, you can get new GH4 for less than 999€ also. then you are complaining for a 500€ camera? Canon do not even offer 4K in double and triple price. Nikon do not offer. Fuji will release a 4K upgrade more than a year after a camera release (this is the most profound "hold back on features" case, ever), Sony -Sony is Sony, full of promises, under deliver on many important aspects.
  22. @IronFilm Yeah, great sound, what was your sound kit and technique?
  23. @TwoScoops What is the point here? that sexual crimes are "too few"? How that exactly work if your mother/daughter/wife/girlfriend has been affected in any way? What if your wife's boss is trying to touch her while in work, or if your daughter had a couple of beers more that she should on a dorm party? and who exactly is this lady (I know who she is), and what are her initiatives? 248000 in 2001, 126000 and 188000 in 2009 and 2010, 570000 in 3 years are not enough for you??!! The whole country of Slovenia that won European Championship in basketball are a bit more than 2.000.000 people, almost as much as serious sexual crimes in US the last decade. 91,6% of rapes in Italy go unreported - 60% in US (95% among college students), in many nations in the world sexually assaulted women and kids are considered outcasts - even stoned to death, in some countries (that law passed in Turkey last year) doesn't considers a forceful sexual act as rape, as soon as the perpetrator marries(!) the victim. Instead of trying to minimize those numbers (even 1 is too much) they are not enough for you to sympathize, or be more responsible with your attitude towards victims of serious crimes? https://web.archive.org/web/20140201182537/http://sgdatabase.unwomen.org/searchDetail.action?measureId=26309&baseHREF=country&baseHREFId=675 all the official data is on the internet, there is no point put a dozen of links here, just sad that some humans are so far apart from reality. It is obvious that our communities need a lot of work and evolution steps to start act as an evolved specie, even us, the "lucky" ones in the western world seem to not really comprehend how an altruistic community lives, works, evolve. The good thing, is that politics are starting to play a major role in people's life, most of them for the very first time. You see American sports right now, it is all about equality, understanding and co operation. It isn't the most civil and productive exchange of ideas, but in the end, I hope political thinking, logic and reasoning will prevail, or not (e.g look at the outcome of "Arabic Spring" throughout the world"). This thing can go either way. Do not forget that after the most amazing democratic experiment in Ancient Greek city states, and a cynical productive Pax Romana (hardly a couple centuries in total, or less), followed 1500 years of dark ages. Just in case, don't be too close with your cats. You never know when the next Inquisition is coming, and maybe they will burn wizards, not witches.
  24. A bit disappointing that you still can't see the monitor on tilt only displays, plus, what Judd is saying, is that it doesn't really work for lighter/smaller cameras, so, we have to turn to the Crane 1 v2 instead?! Do you people understand if this Crane 2 is much better than the Crane 1 (like, does it have better motors?). I am not exactly sold on the focus thing, and definitely I am not planning to buy any of those Canon's, so I am unsure if this is really the best gimbal, or I should go for the Crane 1v2. Do you believe is it workable for a bigger cam, like the C100mk2?
