I don't know if you have post this already, (I was away of my base for a few days for work, and I missed a few pages here and there!) but it mentions some of the things I said when the A9 announced https://***URL removed***/opinion/1937765842/sony-a9-why-being-better-might-not-be-enough this is a professional (and not for all professionals) photo camera, if people value video more, they need a different camera, as simple as than, I do not understand all the complaints and stuff..
-
@jcs Yes, in theory, I am planning to eventually offer some very basic (in sound), amateurish (in sight) services and I am looking the audio options as everything is quite new right now. Unfortunately there aren't any cheap video alternatives at the moment (something around 2500$) to experiment with sufficient results. Do you need any other hardware or software for the post? I see Sennheiser offer their own plug in. How do you use the directional mics? you make a similar arrangement like the Ambeo but with different mics? What do you think between Schoeps and Audix (I am considering a mic for indoors dialogue, but I would prefer to avoid the triple priced Schoeps at the moment, because the jobs are not paying for the best!)? What I said previously, like they put 2 400 capsules and created a directional stereo arrangement, I would prefer having 4 400 capsules in the Ambeo arrangement, and create a super portable directional Ambeo. In our line of work, directionality is something I seek most of the times, and I can mix down whatever I do not want, while with cardioid it is difficult to mix up things in the background!
-
@jcs How is the Ambeo doing?! I am a big Senny fun, trust most things they have, very well thought and execution. I would probably wanted something a little more directional though, something like the 440 for 360!
-
Also, why "may" or "may not" is used so many times on a simple post on EOSHD forum?! I do not think Canon would have press charges for a post on a forum, or else this forum would have been called something else already!

GH5 is perfect for "advanced amateurs", I don't see what BlackMagic could offer for less than 1999$. Even lower speced Panasonics and Sony cameras are enough for most "advanced amateurs". Now, I have to wait until September to find out what this new Panasonic is, as it would definitely go near the top of my list. Panasonic is very active lately, the whole industry needed someone to push the envelope a little bit.

What about the LS 20 mini?! Seems really handy for such a low price and some specific jobs.
-
@DaveAltizer That is a good one! Nice lines from time to time, maybe make it shorter, have a little better sound, and be more on focus will help!
-
Noone is talking about the next Varicam Mini Light Micro (my trademark!) that is about to released in Autumn. This is the most exciting news so far, an advanced S35 video camera with the internals of the GH5 (I hope) and most of the goodies of the FS5/C100 form factor. I hope that will push Canon (probably not) to reconsider the updates for the C100markIII...and Canon just announced the CN-E 70-200, which in the end, is going to be a big deal for many (and me included, in case of a worthy C100iii). The Sound Devices announcements are exciting too, I just can't believe people in sound forums complain about some lack in features and build quality, like Sound Devices line up starts and finishes with these cute entry level models. People want a combination of these and 633 for the price of MixPre3!!! Just can't believe how people thing (same goes for GH5 complainers and in other circumstances). We just can't jump from G to P, with the price of D! DJI Ronin 2 and a few huge monitors here and there. It seems that companies are announcing products whenever through the year.

Where did you send it exactly? Good luck, and keep us informed!

Now that the market is dominated by uneducated and unexperienced directors producers, all they need is a G3 and a ME2 capsule! The other day I did a shooting for 1/3 of my going rate (which is small anyway, to help a friend DP, and just for the connection) and brought to me my usual setup, and the directress ask me why we do not just put "the bug", as they call the lav mics here in Greece! See doesn't even know what wireless system, or any type, model, or anything about lavs, "the bug" can do it all for them! We were near the center of Athens, and normally the G3s sound was more interference than sound, and it was too street-noisy anyway. Good old 416 did the trick. My friend told me that they did the rest of the shootings (a decently low-budgeted documentary, easily could fit my usual - low - rate) with a G3/ME2 and a Rode NGT2 on the camera!
-
@jacoblewis PZ and 45mm are very fast focusing too. The rest are very well said. Where do you put your sharpness? Master Black? I go 0.95 with GREEN (instead of 1).
-
@jonpais this is the post. Just an example of things can go wrong.
-
@Arikhan better use a FS700 first before commit. It is definitely NOT an ENG camera. With 13000euros you can buy 4 and a half LS300s in Greece! I agree with the "2 similar cameras" theory.. and 3, for the same reason.
-
@Arikhan you know my most used cameras lately are LS300 and NX1! In general maybe you are right about the image, but because I am editing some projects with multiple cameras (those included) I would say that this is the way most modern sensors act these days, and all else are much different (NX1 is H265 4:2:0 and LS300 is 4:2:2 with different codecs). In general, the LS300 codecs remind me a lighter Black Magic camera and NX1 an improved version of GH4. I have never used AF with the LS, maybe I have too.. I do waiting for NAB, hope something comes up from Canon (C100mkIII, and CN-E 18-80) or Sony FS5markII (if it comes, and is good, I am going Sony and Fuji 18-55 cinema lenses), I wish for a better JVC, if not, then I am truly considering going LS300+Atomos plus GH5, and keep my Samsungs (I have NX1/NX500/NX3000) as my hobby cameras, and one man 5 camera covering (joking, I can do only 3 at a time! no joke!). FS700 is one of my worst Sony's, and I do detest a lot of their cameras! and it is going to be much more expensive than the LSs, and they are not truly compete each other, different animals. Be aware that a FS700 is a slow mo monster, and LS300 has a monstrously bad slow motion, quite the opposite really. Why you have to buy 2 of each?!
-
@wolf33d ...and because Sony A7sIII is not a real camera, or something that exists, then GH5 is the only way!
-
4 electronic frames, actually 15 electronic frames and 5 mechanical, I see Canon easily add 6 more frames with e-shutter, and then go 22fps, just for the kicks! One's 10, will be another one's 11, over and over again! 400$ for the battery thingy? with how many batteries? because they cost 80$ each, and if they offer 2, they are not enough for a full day shooting, you need at least 4 (and keep charging)..and is it only me, or anyone else founds these solutions inconvenient for such a small form factor camera. What is the point of buying the smallest full frame body, and then add a full box with batteries under the camera, something to put ND filters in front of the camera, another box in top to connect sound, a monitor definitely and a few more things to make it video operational. @webrunner5 If you job depends of a camera, a Canonikon with their professional servicing and warranty labs in all major cities of the world, their battle tested bodies and lenses, the long selection of professional lenses, and those brands reliability are a sure bet. Do not know what happened to you since yesterday, but this isn't the greatest camera ever build, is far from great, and we haven't even tested it yet! Just check on another thread how disappointingly NOT dustproof at all are Fuji lenses, after a few months most have collected dust, that made their user considering changing system altogether in the middle of a world trip. There is a reason Canonikon is what it is.
-
@Arikhan Wish it did!! We can't ask the world for such a cheap camcorder! Kudos to JVC thought, they are really trying, I wish they have a new offering in NAB in the 5000euros price range, which interests me most.
-
@webrunner5 I have a more aggressive policy, I eat their hearts, and gain their magical powers. Win win, more magical power for me, and less video people in business. But they are keep coming back like the Orcs.. Seriously, I do not understand what you are talking about, just relax, it is a camera, I seriously consider more ground braking the 1999$ GH5 than this one, and I am not buying any of those. Personal complaint: The touch screen is a gimmick, like the a6500's one. Can't believe that they still can't produce a full touch screen camera in 2017. That is just sad. A pro camera without ruggness and element protective characteristics is a deal breaker for most. The camera is a 5fps with mechanical shutter, and there are other restrictions too on the e-shutter. Plus, where are the lenses? You don't buy a 4.5K camera using adapted lenses. I am sure Sony will pay a few top sport photographers to advertise their products (and maybe @webrunner5 too!), but not see the bulk of them turn right now, maybe in mark II or III, or even IV, or V. Sony has to offer similar pro services like the Canonikon do in sports events. I can't really see Sony selling more than a hundred cameras in 2017, and that if they only have a few more lenses out, that zoom they have is not sufficient for most. We all still waiting for the A7sIII announcement, or even better, a FS5 mark II.
-
That is very sad for Fuji, they just went -1 in my imaginary camera chart! I seriously can't reply with confidence, full frame cameras would be a no no for such a travel (the lenses are big and heavy), I wouldn't go to 16 or even 20megapixels m43 cameras easily, Fuji - well... Canon - well.. Sony maybe, but not sure. Kind-a off topic as they are not accessible anymore, but just a different approach, may help someone else in the future. NX1 and NX500, and they are so cheap, that you just can throw them away after the trip. The 16-50 and 50-150(I do not own this one) S lenses are dustproof, and you can add a combination of great/small/light fisheye(I always have one of those) 30mm 2f pancake and 45mm 1.8f, or/and 12-24 cheap (but very sharp from wide open) UWZ and/or 50-200 cheap (but surprisingly good) long zoom. Smallest/lightest/cheapest/highest megapixel count (28megapixels per camera!)- possible combo and none of my lenses have any dust after some years of use (but no travels around the world, that would definitely make a difference!). I carry all these plus 2 flashes and another PZ kit lens, accessories/filters/batteries/chargers and another small camera (NX3000) on one Vanguard bag. My only issue would be the 12-24 as it is 4-5.6f and doesn't seem very well build, I would much rather have an S UWZ but that never happened.

Excellent cameras, for cheap, completely different form factors. Obviously the NX1 is pro orientated, the NX500 not that much. 1. & 2. I do not know about it, maybe it is something that appears in specific circumstances that I do not do anyway. 3. Seems like it is. It is not Canon, but I am using NX1 on Ronin and never disappointed the customers. I do not use AF on any other circumstance, even with a Canon camera. 4. 1600ISO, after that the NR kicks really hard, 2000ISO sometimes, I have the impression that the NR kicks in just after the 2000 ISO, but I try to keep it in 1600 just to be sure. Certainly a camera that needs some kind of light to shine, no A7sII killer here, even AF is so much better with some kind of light (that is obvious and a general rule in photography, but in very low light AF drop dramatically, unlike a Nikon, let's say). 5. The mod increases the bitrate, which is impressive on its own. 4K rolling shutter not that impressive, but near or better than the competition. 1080p is absolutely fantastic though. Check the data. a7s II FF 1080p --- 30.3 ms (29.5-31.2) a7s II FF 4K ------ 30.4 ms (30.2-30.6) a7s FF 1080p ------ 30.5 ms (30.1-32.0-30.5-30.3-29.2-30.9) XT2 4k ------------ 30.7 ms (30.5-30.7-31.2-31.2-30.8-29.9) NX1 4K ------------ 30.9 ms (30.6-31.6-31.4-30.7-30.2) NX1 UHD ----------- 32.6 ms (32.9-32.0-32.9-32.5) a7R II 4K S35 ----- 33.3 ms (35.6-32.2-32.8-35.3-32.6-31.1) RX100 IV 4K ------- 36.6 ms (36.4-36.7) (without stabilization it's slightly faster: 35.7) a6300 4K 24fps ---- 39.0 ms (39.2-38.9) and the only ones, user tested under 10ms 1DX II 1080p 60&120- 6.7 ms (6.6-6.7) NX1 1080p ---------- 7.9 ms (7.7-8.0-8.1-7.8) NX500 2.5k --------- 8.6 ms (8.2-8.8-8.9) 6. Not at all! I use standard profiles for both the cameras anyway. 7. The absolute worst of these cameras is the fact that you can't zoom in to check focus while recording. This is the most annoying thing ever. I hate it! No other issue for me. 8. Relatively great. Miles ahead of Canon's, not as good as a professional sound recordist. Had some issues with headphones jack (listen some echo), but that may be me, trying to adapt to external microphones and.. it's a long story. Easily adjust levels as well. 9. The 2.5K mode was in the original firmware of the NX500 but left out at the last moment (and not in a perfect form, as it seems). 10. I don't use EVFs, and I haven't use a Fuji, but I preferred it from any other I have tested. Not a very formal opinion though. Also, the OLED touch screens of Samsung are just brilliant. There are a lot of other great stuff. 28megapixels BSI sensor - great photo camera, a true 50-50% hybrid. 15fps. H265 is such an advantage (for me) and future proof. Excellent battery life on the NX1, no overheating, ever. Continuous 73minutes recording. Great ergonomics for both cameras (one to each own). Best menu system and touch screen implementation. The unicorn 16-50S 2-2.8f lens, and just the right lenses - if they are the right for you! Fish eye is just excellent. 30mm 2f, great super sharp pancake. 45 1.8f great short portrait. 60mm macro. 85 1.4f, amazing classic portrait lens. The 2 S lenses, and a few more cheap zooms and primes to feel the holes.

This is a sports photography professional camera. Not my field and not that video friendly anyway, so I can keep my car (that goes used for a similar price). The only good thing out of this announcement is the new battery, it took them 3-4 years of complaints, but finally they will deliver, a bigger battery. Sony at its best.

@Arikhan Where it says internally? "Version 4.0 provides 4:2:2 (8-bit) 4K recording at 24/25/30p onboard to SDXC media cards." "The GY-LS300CH will also now have the capability to output Ultra HD at 60/50p via its HDMI 2.0b port. Through JVC’s partnership with Atomos, the GY-LS300CH will operate seamlessly with the new Ninja Inferno and Shogun Inferno monitor recorders, triggering recording from the camera’s start/stop operation. Plus, when the camera is set to J-Log1 gamma recording mode, the Atomos units will record the HDR footage and display it on their integrated, seven-inch monitors."

@docmoore What is your take on the FSB 8? What camera + lenses combination will you use on it? Is the difference between the FSB and the Ace that big?

Video is the future, and the present. Even small kids are sending video messages through social media. Words are something of the 19th century, photos 20th, 21 century is the video century and we are moving to 360 and VR. Staying behind in video capabilities is not a clever marketing, they just can't compete. Do not have the CPUs, the electronics, the sensors, the video orientation philosophy, and while Olympus and Fuji are playing the game the last couple of years, Nikon won't. Tiny tiny markets, indeed, but high price equipments are not sold to the masses, the masses are buying 300euros phones with 16megapixel cameras, and that is just enough for their everything, the masses don't buy dSLRs anymore. That is so 2010's.

It is always better to downsize from 4K(UHD) to 1080p, true, but the 4K rolling shutter in most hybrid cameras (except GH5 maybe) is terrible, and for most instances (home videos that never will be edited, big performances/live video that last too long) it is just easier, more manageable, less expensive to just shoot 1080p. But yes, if you shoot 4K/UHD and downsize to 1080p, you are definitely have a quality advantage. Do not forget, that this is the ONLY method of shooting video with a6300/a6500 cameras, as their 1080p video is worst, even to the a6000's one, so having the 1080p of NX1 I consider it a bonus.
