Even for the people not buying this camera (like me), I can't see how NOT to be excited. It is the first time a manufacturer gives so much, for so little money, on a perfect operational and reliable camera body, covering most of the competition, and then add some. It is an exciting release, but people tend to forget, that GH4 was exciting back in the day too, I am a bit old, and my memory works linear, so I clearly remember that - again- Panasonic pushed the limits a little bit further with the GH4, as exactly does with the GH5 now. Well done Pana, but not for me, yet.. we will see how it goes the next few months, what others have to say (both real world reviews and other manufacturers), the firmware updates, and maybe, down in the road, most of us we will HAVE to own one!

@IronFilm what do you want those heavy tripods? @HockeyFan12 The union pay per day is 2-10.000$?! First of all, the difference is vast, how do you get paid? 2 or 10? For a documentary shooting of 40 days production, you are getting paid, let's say 5000$ X 40 = 200000$?! that is so hard to believe.. Here is around 70-150euros per day, most of the equipment including.

Good read. Maybe there is not enough room, in this particular room, for all these elephants, but there are other smaller rooms in this house, and Panasonic seems to inhabit quite nice the video room for quite some time now. Just have a couple of mirrorless models, and concentrate more on video. Everything of the GH5 on a C100 body, for 5500$ (give or take 500$!), with more room for heat dissipation and bigger batteries, and you have an instant hit. They used to have the 100, and have the DVX200, and JVC has the LS300, just combine everything and do a good video camera. If they do not fit in the video room (Canon/Sony, Fuji seems to care more now, BlackMAgic), then they won't fit anywhere soon!

As I am not interested at all at full frame photography and have 3 X1.5 crop cameras from 20-28megapixels (28mgpxls is enough to do some serious cropping) and various lenses from 1.4f to whatever, the camera that can really benefit my job efficiency and workflow, it could only be a Canon C100markIII (or similar). One of the reasons this camera isn't out yet, and instead the C300markII/C700 and even the XC15 are, is because Canon has to see what GH5 is capable of, because a lot of people won't pay a C line premium for a camera doing 1/5 of the things a 2000$ mirrorless can! Now, I just hope that C100 can do 3,5/5ths of the Panasonic, and add some of the Canon goodies, such Dual Pixel AF/ergonomics/battery/Canon color science and video file optimization (Canon Voodoo, really). It is interesting thought, Panasonic, AGAIN, pushes the industry a bit further, and 2000$ for such a modern camera, that works reliably, is a bargain.

Try to read the sub forum about settings, the moding scene, and the such, and keep your NX for one more year, until we see a real competitive Canon M, maybe a Nikon mirrorless, and the next generation of Sony cameras, or buy a C100mkII, absolutely brilliant 1080p, not much grading needed, ergonomics/battery great, very usable dual pixel AF, great low light performance. If you do your research, trial and error a bit, you will find out soon that your options for your budget are less than you think. Most are missing things that now with your NX1 you are taking for granted, and you will miss after.
-
Or you just can keep a cheap FD dumb adapter for each (I have a few cheap ones, working perfectly fine), but yes, I agree, that lock mount system is the worst ever, it can drive you mad at times!

NX cameras have AMOLED screens (it is similar tech, isn't it?), I have them +2 (the maximum brightness) for a couple of years now, do not dim, are in perfect condition.
-
@lucabutera I commented on the enthusiastic review by Ilksim, and I am waiting for your next great NX-related invention/creation. I am sure that you will make something that will make more people (me included) to buy from you.

What is this "exposure drifting"? I have record hours and hours with NX1/NX500 and I do not understand when it happens (if it happens), I have everything auto off, and smart range off.

"Unfortunately a little increase of price could be imposed." That was never a 99$ monitor, or whatever it was advertised in the beginning, and all the forums are full of people complaining about this company! To increase a price, that has been increased before without the customers really knowing, isn't the best way to trust a company, I wouldn't. In anyway, this is going to be one of the well know OEM monitor makers (Neway and Setec are making most of the cheap monitors, and medium priced, in the market anyway) that can be found on a different name from someone else, or bought straight from the factory in Alibaba, or whatever these platforms called.

AMD RYZEN brings high performance 4K video editing to the masses on a budget
Kisaha replied to LimitBreak's topic in Cameras
From everything I read, I just can't find a reason NOT to build an AMD system for Adobe Premiere, and I am sure software support will increase performance over time. The more cores for the same amount of money of the AMD are a Godsend. Intel has to respond accordingly, and the new series of advanced CPUs are due to September. Right about the time that I would be planning my new 4K editing PC. Now, let's see their response to the 10x0 Pascal graphic cards! -
Excellent own-view! Ι can't wait for Lucas's next NX - shenanigans!! Take our money Lucas!

I read the thread and I am more confused that I was before. Which ones work sufficiently with AF? Metabones is still at the top? What about the Sigma one?

AMD RYZEN brings high performance 4K video editing to the masses on a budget
Kisaha replied to LimitBreak's topic in Cameras
In my machines I have 3 very important factors that I value almost equally to raw power; ergonomics, heat output, and noise (that's why Sony cameras weren't my forte!), so AMD processors were a no go for me for so many years. My old Xeon is 3.7(turbo)Mhz but only 69w, that allowed me to have silent fans, and a sound proof (or the opposite, sound sealed?!) case. If AMD is competitive in power consumption (=less heat = less noise), then I am 100% in, do not care bout brands at all, and the recent research I did I found that I am not missing a lot in processing power from my 5 years old CPU, definitely a disappointment, as Intel did not have any competition whatsoever those 5 years. Lack of competition is bad, that's why we need as much players possible (in photo/video market also). -
Whatever the angle, NX still offers great value for the money. Some of my favorite lenses are: 10mm fisheye (most APS-C systems do not even offer one, amazing tiny and very near focusing lens) - 30mm pancake (incredible sharp, great for video, very very small, very slow focusing though) - 45mm (advertised as) pancake (my favorite NX lens, rendered all my 50-55-58mm legacy lenses useless, and that is the reason I was resisting this lens for a few years! very fast focusing also) and of course the unicorn 16-50S (2f in the first few mm that cover 3 common prime focal lengths, best AF for NX, great Dual Stabilizer with the NX1 - for non action scenes), 16mm on NX is 24.something mm, the usual 17mm in Canon EF-S is 27.something mm, quite a difference. Amazing value for such a cheap price (so I had to own them to fill holes): 16-50PZ/12-24/50-200 Probably near the top of their respected lists: 60mm macro, 85mm (a truly amazing lens), 50-150S There are also two small pancakes (16/20mm), and a few other kit zooms (20-50/18-55) What I am missing? Only an S ultra Wide Zoom, some people something longer than 200mm. If you bought for cheap (which I know you did!), the loss is minimal, and the enjoyment vast! Just melt it from the use, it will be very difficult to need something more for a while!

They DO make weapons! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_SGR-A1 ..and other stuff that kill people, for ever, they kill them forever. No replies, no up votes or down votes, just dead.

You have to consider lenses as well, if you want 1 great zoom lens, and a couple of primes, then NX is a viable solution as there are packets with the 16-50S lens (2-2.8f, quite remarkable) for as much as a new a6500 body only. Adding a couple more NX lenses and you are set, there is also a speedbooster, if you are into this game, and dumb adaptors (no electronics) for other lenses. No metabones though, and that is a deal breaker for some. The next best value for money, are the middle-ing Panasonic cameras, with as little as 1000$ you can have an ok set of camera and lens (a bit more though if you want the best zooms, they aren't exactly cheap). In my opinion, and as I expressed it in the beginning, if you are after the best AF, you should consider an M5 or M6 Canon, as they have a very good touch screen implementation, best AF, a few great M lenses (the Ultra Wide Zoom, the pancake) and usually comes with a free AF adapter, which is great, but on the other side I am pro native lenses, and you would be amazed (in a bad way) how silly an M5 looks with a 24-70 EF lens in front. So the main disadvantages of the M system, is no exceptional native lenses (as Canon, like Sony, prefer you to buy into more expensive Full Frame systems) and no 4K really. If you value 4K that much, then there are the Panasonic, NX, Sony options. If you value AF+4K, then NX and Sony. Even though I have 3 NX cameras, and most lenses, I am not 100% positive on advice people follow that format, as you know it is a dead system, and takes you nowhere after NX1, ofcourse there is also the exceptional NX500, which main disadvantages are a heavy crop in 4K, and 120frames slow motion in 720p (instead of 1080p of the NX1), and some other minor things. But it is a very reliable little camera doing all the modern stuff on a very small form factor, does not overheat, can record almost 73minutes per take in 1080p and can found for relatively cheap. Also, a plus of the NX system (for me) are the spot on lenses that (except an S ultra wide zoom) are exactly the ones I need. If you are considering getting a NX1 and a couple of native lenses, and literally, melt it from the heavy use in the next couple of years, then it may be one of the best value for money buys, until we see the new Sony ones, and the more advanced Canon M, and maybe a Nikon alternative. A very capable slightly used NX1+16-50S+accessories for 1500$ can be an excellent value for money option.

I consider dual pixel a league of its own, nothing else is so stable and reliable, it is the only one I have professionally use (Canon C100mkII). I also use the NX1 (with the cheap PZ lens) on Ronin gimbals and the focus is right like 19/20 times, actually from all the good takes, none had an AF issue, so I am guessing that it could have lost the odd one. I am not really using AF for anything else, as it isn't there yet, to keep shooting auto. In video you need full control, and it is better to loose a second to focus, than have an hour long take with the AF hunting back and forth and whatnot. Full auto in video is not an option, yet. Philip Bloom has an AF test, and even though didn't took a lot of NX tests, it was very reliable for such an old camera and Sony cameras were a mixed bag, DP AF was the best of course.

The CT500HO seems interesting for people wanting a smaller one.

I have a smaller version of the Viltrox (just bought it when they were really rare, a couple of years ago or a bit more), and even though there isn't any CRI measurement on the box, the quality of light is very good and rendered useless all my previous cheap LEDs, collecting dust on some drawer or closet. Cheap LED tech has gone quite far. Chinese manufacturers are doing great stuff for all of us, and they are innovative too, not like 15 years ago that only copying things. Well done China! I also just bought a couple of the 406, because, why not?!

Nice use of the spoken words in the beginning and the relation with your name, and you had a lot of things going on in 2.2minutes but with a good rhythm and not randomly put there. Good stuff!

I just quoted some facts about the a6300/a6500 cameras that some people that haven't use them do not know about. I replied specifically to the terrible (in my opinion, and all reviewers obviously) 1080p performance, but I just copied the next few lines as well on the review. Whatever you do is your own choice! I can only reply for my self and the people around me. I personally use my mirrorless (NX) cameras for live performances (we use 5-8 cameras per performance), that last 2-4 hours, so I want the least SD cards possible, the least files possible for synchronization (so around an hour per file time duration), no overheating issues, and "alright" 1080p. There are a lot of people that care about 4K/30p, the world is a big place (or small, depending how you see things!). I do not even shoot 4K with those, as for the low budget projects that I use my mirrorless cameras there is no need for 4K, and for better projects I use completely different (video) cameras. No clients ever has asked for 4K delivery, and in the scheme of things (media for recording footage, hard drives to work and as backups, processing power for editing) is completely unnecessary. Those are my choices. People's mile usage vary greatly.

It is not curious, it is very well documented by every reviewer, the a6300/a6500 1080p is of very bad quality. "1080 video is surprisingly poor by current standards, even taking a step backward from the original a6000, and falling far behind what the company's own RX100 cameras are capable of." Also, I add this, "the 120p and 100p modes of Full HD video are shot using a smaller, 1.14x crop in from here and 30p 4K imposes a still tighter, 1.23x crop. Cropping has several effects: it means you need a shorter focal length to achieve a wide-angle shot and also means that your noise performance worsens, since you're effectively using a smaller sensor area. In 4K/30p mode, the a6500 is using a sensor area a fraction larger than a Four Thirds sensor."

Just get your facts straight and you will be fine. - 5D3/D750 aren't 4K cameras, so no 4K monitor can help you there - The monitors we are talking about are NOT real 4K monitors, is this comprehendible enough for you? - Full frame focus with 1.4f lenses is almost impossible to focus right for more than 1 second - or less, even if you had a 65" TV worn on your head, it isn't about the monitor/screen/focus peaking, it is about physics. That is another huge conversation, about the 5Dii revolution, and the effects on moving image mentality and psychology, not for this topic. That's what I said, that's what you seemed missing completely, people with less knowledge are reading these forums, and they will try to find 4K monitors to use with their D750, or else they won't be able to pull focus with out a focus puller on 1.4f lenses, filming a soccer game. I did not call you anything, I just disagreed with your generalities and offered facts to your myths, while it is truth, people didn't use 4K monitors until a year ago, and still just a wee tiny portion of video makers have a true 4K monitor (something like a 0.4%) to help them with focus, do you disagree with that?
