  1. https://www.newsshooter.com/2019/08/14/z-cam-adds-zraw-with-e2-firmware-update/ Not as straightforward as I was hoping it to be. Just 4K/30p for now. SSD use is not advisable. How Z cameras can fund everything at once is a mystery to me, but voila, they have their own Zraw. They can license it to Nikon probably, it has a catchy name and that cooperation could benefit both companies greatly. I am not very optimistic about Atomos though.. It seems that partial debayering (or something!) is the key to overcome Red's patents (or something!).
  2. Any comments on the hot topic of P4K vs P6K? Pros - Cons? Are you missing something from your P4K when using the P6K, or the opposite?
  3. What camera? There are a lot of variables influencing such an adapters performance. Sensor stack, lens's exit pupil, adapters materials and craftmanship. Usually adapters are reaching their limits with brighter and wider lenses. That is the rule. That is why Metabones has so many different versions optimized for various cameras. Viltrox EF-M2 ver.II costs185€, Metabones Speedbooster costs 850€ and Lens Regain used to cost around 550€ when it was available here. Guess which one performs best!
  4. Yes, but there are quite a few of those niches, and a whole planet crazy about image and video right now. Youtube/fb/insta are running the planet (and I am not on any of those!). Also, camera phones IS a camera market, it is a phone that has dedicated sensors, lenses, photo and video pipeline, special imaging software, e.t.c like a dedicated camera does. Imagine Canon powered Xiaomi phones with 20-40% rights for Canon, offering AF, color science, their logo, maybe even a new fab for sensors - strengthen and modernize their own ancient fab labs. Back in profit instantly! Samsung left cameras because Samsung do not do niche anymore. They left most of their niche companies (military also, I think) but they still innovate and produce and gain in sensors, memory, ssd, phones, where they can mass produce. Other companies find their niche and thrive (BM, Fuji, e.t.c).
  5. This has some Russian cliffhanger also! Red is going down. BM, Kinefity, EZ, Panasonic will offer similar or more for much less, already.
  6. This the greatness of BM, with 2 cameras they are covering most bases with the minimum cost possible (for both them and us). That's a brilliant strategy. I do not like adapters at all, but the possibilities of an P4K causes a lot of thoughts, especially when a good m43 zoom on one, is half the weight and smaller than a similar EF combo. I always had issues with low light performance of m43 cameras, even GH5, but this sensor diminishes if not all, most of these worries. BM creates the possibility of owning a lot of cheaper cameras instead of 1 very expensive like was the norm for so many decades.
  7. Come on, there is not too much depth in capitalists, profit is always the target. If Jannard is Ghandi, then Grant Petty is God himself, of all universes and all planets, ever.. ..but no, he has a plan to bring profit to his company, a better plan from Jannard I must say. How many people do you known with a Red product? How many with a BM one? Software? Hardware? The whole workflow! Red is sueing the whole industry (like Apple does), BM gives braw for free (ofcourse not because they are good, but they have a masterplan), there is the controversy with the "specialized" media which aren't very special and so many things at red forums. Also a comment I read in newsshooter, the first part is Jarred's instagram post for the latest Komodo teaser, the second part the Ed Andrews interpretation: "Ed Andrews 6 hours ago "During prep late last week with one of our favorite teams of course an impossible request comes in which had about a 4% probability of getting done in time. Low and behold... a few dedicated rockstars from the RED engineering team worked around the clock to get it done and they just got it done." I read this as 'boss boasting about the amount of pressure they are putting on their staff.' They must be rattled by the BMPCC6k with all these 'teasers" There are no Angels in this world.
  8. Braw for 6K. No prores 6K and no 4K braw. Or at least that's my impression. @thebrothersthre3 Also, 2.8K 120fps is windowed (X3.388?)? I would love a P4K Pro, but this release shows that they are comfortable with this form factor, and why not? Have sold dozens of thousands for sure. Maybe the P4K Pro is the Z 4K..
  9. Please do some tests and tell us what you see! 100% this time next year we have at least 2 new BM cameras (production, Ursa and/or compact). The sensors exist, look at Z cameras. Same body 3 different resolutions 3-4 different sensors, reasonable to cheap prices. As I said before, I am thinking going 4K with this purchase and wait for the 8K options next year. Consider skipping 6K altogether.. BM seem to learn with every mistake. They have done a lot before, but they seem to transform to a very powerful and world wide player in the market. Imagine the impact they have in both software and hardware side of things. Truly amazing stuff.
  10. I am sure by that time, Panasonic will have an advanced L EVA, a GH6, Sony a couple new - best in class (based by the specs) cameras, probably BM have a couple more, Fuji the X-H2, DJI the Hassy copycat and maybe JVC and Sharp will have an announcement! It's madness! We seriously have to start a thread for where the industry is going right now. Everyone is complaining about the industry is doomed, and the market deteriorates, while in the same time there are unlimited new releases that bring more features, original and creative designs, better image quality for prices that a few years back you were only buying soft 1080 with silly compression files. Are these the middle ages or is it rennaisance? Maybe we have to live both in the same timeline it seems.
  11. Yes, right, like when the Hydrogen project went down it was some Chinese's fault, when everything goes well is 100% Red.. Do we even believe this guy anymore?
  12. How do WE react to the Z cam releasing Z Raw today?! How many cameras do we have to buy this year? Don't forget that they soon will release an 8K full frame camera nearly the price of a C200! As of the difference between the P6K and P4K on that tweet, first of all the Viltroxed image is a lot wider, the difference in depth of field is not that much, and the Viltrox is definitely not a Metabones.
  13. Do not know about IQ yet, I am going to have a rest for the next few days until the TV season starts next week (so I do not want to look at a bigger screen than my phone) but Z offers: ProRes/H.265/4K 160fps (it is good to have 120fps at least, I have only used 100/120fps twice!),240fps 1080p with no crop - no crop 1080p is a huge deal, still delivering and shoot 95% in 1080p, even though I am expecting more 4K for 2020, still a huge portion of my video projects will be 1080p. Just perfect to stick a NPF battery at the back, I really like the form factor and I am using the SmallHD Focus with every camera anyway, just can't stand 3-3.5" anymore and the Pocket needs an additional monitor, sadly. Nice aloy also, I am not a big fun of the plasticky Pocket. I also have those CF cards (actually 1) and now they have Zraw..if they drop a hundrend or 2 the next couple months they will be a no brainer.. Pocket has the color science and the free Resolve science, and 500-600€ less. Do they have a good servicing reputation in Europe at all? What do you do if you have a hardware problem?
  14. What's Zraw?! Another one, more tests, more decisions. Things have speed up quite considerably in video terms. Exciting times, and I do not want anyone to complain about it! Never we had so good video quality for so cheap.
  15. 1) I was wondering for actual physical size! I mean in centimeters, which one is physical larger! 2)I thought so.. 3) Is low light clearly better than P4K or similar? 4) cheers, that's good. No Braw at 4K not that good though.. I am in the process of choosing one or the other. I am leaning more to the P4K right now..
  16. I said specificaly "imagine buying a Canon C200 mainly for the Raw and EF mount", so I was really specific. There are 2 ways to use the C200 as it is. 1) a glorified C100. I do a lot of projects per year like this. Shoot 1080p and that's it. 2) cheapest internal raw with EF. The guys that we rent the C200 from do not even have the CFast cards for that! Never used it like this. I even bought one myself (ultra expensive Sandisk, half the price of the P4K!) and finally the producer went the usual 1080p (one of the worst investments I ever did..). In his video @DaveAltizer makes a similar comparison! (Great minds and all..) And now we are at it. @DaveAltizer I have some questions. 1) total depth of P4K+Metabones+X lens vs P6K + same X lens. What is the total depth? 2) do you believe the workflow is not ready yet? What about processing computer power for working with 6K footage? 3) low light performance. This is something a lot of people care to know. 4) except 6K, what other modes use all the sensor? Thanks for the good job, I really enjoy your videos! Edit: let's get real guys. A lot of people will take the 2495$ price, spent another thousand for rigging that, and still be less than half of what an EVA or C200 costs. These are real life sales over there and the money difference is substantial. A lot of people will do. Spending 7-8-9 thousands for cameras right now ia hard for individuals and they will thing again for spending so much when you have a lot cheaper but still capable options. I did a sound job for Singaporean TV a month ago and the camera operator here had the C200. The producer thought they were going to take 10bit! When they realize they were getting "prosumer" files they were shocked!
  17. The BM speedboosters do not work at all at other m43 cameras (Olympus, Panasonic, JVC, e.t.c). 4.1-4.4 for the others, 2.4-2.5 for Blackmagic. No, it isn't, but it is so small that you can really work around it. No flip/swivel screen either. Doesn't it have a touch screen? I didn't know that. We are very far away from a real one. It is just an announcement, while I have done a few P4K projects already so I know what to expect from ergonomics/menus/workflow. That is my point, if you are waiting for the next big announcement, it can take you easily to 2022. These Pockets are good enough for most things and they are available now. The 4K one is so cheap that it doesn't matter if you do a "mistake". Imagine buying a Canon C200 mainly for the Raw and EF mount a week ago, and now you can get it for 1/3 of the money and with cheaper media.
  18. Is it? Where did you see it? I am consider getting the X0.64 version for using my Samyangs.
  19. I know. Dont use AF anyway and I have shot a few projects with the P4K so I know what is capable of. Just trying to find another plus for the 6K to make me want to spend the extra 1300€, but do not see it happening. For 2000-2500€ I could be waiting for the FP, seems like a very well thought project, unlike the design and ergonomics of the Pocket cameras. Seriously, what they were thinking?!
  20. Yes, I know. I should say it is not exactly impressive, being native EF and all that. All these little things add to me going the P4K route. Just trying to balance everything, and the P4K is 70% to P6K 30% at the moment! The Sigma Fp is an impressive proposition also. Unbelievable size/weight and modularity. But if I wait for november (or whenever it is coming) for one, maybe the GH6 will be announced, then the Canon 90D, then the A7Siii, then the new BM, then the Sharp 8K, then the JVC LS3000mkII, then...you get the point!
  21. A strap! Damn..I have to get it now.. The AF at 04:07 is really terrible, it is really a MF camera, which is fine for me. I am doing 95% AF myself, even with C cameras. What do you guys think, has the P4K+speedbooster+lens less depth than P6K+same said lens?
  22. @Skip77 If you want to read my specific case you can read here M43 has advantages. Dual ISO and bigger photons improve greatly the low light capabilities. "There are just so many options with the 4K, I have a lens regain (X0.75), I can get the no-glass Viltrox (X1.9) for dead cheap, and maybe the P4K Speedbooster (X0.64) just to be safe for my wider primes. 1 lens almost 3 different lenses! Also, consider skipping the 6K resolution altogether, there will be a lot of 8K options in a year..better save the extra 1400€ for then.." I just bought 2 lavalier microphones and their accessories for 2000€, accusing people that are "too cheap" for this camera is a very silly argument. We shoot tv shows with GH5 cameras and the Oly 12-100mm by the way. M43 is great and alive.
  23. How much? What is the relevance Vs P4K 0.64 + 0.71 Speedboosters?
  24. On my 2018 OLED, 1080 from film is really beautiful. For me, HDR is much more important than resolution. Declaring something is dead, is over the top and maybe a little disrespectful! When we are ready for 8K, 16K will be there, which it will be amazing for VR worlds.
