Thank you very much for the info. This seems like a pretty significant issue. In short, for everyone using old film lenses, Samyang/Rokinons, and a lot of different primes (you have to know the exit pupil location of that particuliar lens, which you can't, except you have an optical bench or the manufacturer states it), you are gaining a lot with this specialized speedbooster. If you shoot mostly zooms and teles, not so much.. Depending the sensor stack and the lenses exit pupil location, the difference can be (with 1 as max, and 0.85 as an hypothetical perfect lens) 80% worst! Now, in real life both are very difficult to happen, but I see a lot of combos that can take this number to 30% loss, or something (I am not sure if I can read the table right, maybe this number is too pessimistic). I can tell from the data that APS-C and FF are near 2-2.5mm sensor stacking. For some reason, most m43 are 4-4.5mm, so Metabones doesn't lie, BM cameras with m43 mount need different Speedboosters. That's all in theory of course, but there is not only smoke.. I wonder what those extra layers do on the other m43 cameras and if the BM P4K sensor can still be considered the same as the GH5S.. As I see it, one more specialized item to rise the total P4K cost.

Definitely ProRes RAW. Still do not like external recorders. After watching the video I realized how good the BlackMagic menus are!
-
That would be a mistake. The market for stills is excellent as it is. You have megapixels, you have speed, great AF for cheap. Video is the battlefield.
-
I definitely want to see a side by side test. The fact that a specialized Metabones speedbooster exists will make everyone wonder. The fact that you can't use this one on another m43 camera is quite significant also, even if it is 2-5-6-7% better than the previous version maybe does not worth it. What when the new GH6 arrives, or a new JVC LS300, or DJI, or Sharp.. Have you heard about this "sensor thickness" before? It is the first time that I heard about it. Have anyone use the Metabones adapter (NOT speedbooster) vs the Viltrox EF-M1?
-
Sorry, but this is just not true. People are doing their own focus solo for almost 100 years now! I am not a highly professional cameraman (sound is my expertise) but I always shoot manual. AF for video is just a drop in the filmic ocean of time.

The point was going to the op to be honest..my detaste for smaller sensors is very well documented, especially when we have so many and cheap bigger sensored cameras I just can't see the point going for a fraction of the sensor size and for probably more money (newer iPhones are super expensive anyway and the Osmo is like 399$?). Now, if the op needs a phone, or an action camera, that's something else.
-
The 2 options to start with, were an action cam and and a phone. Fixed screen-no cine profile either. LX at least is a real camera with a big-ish sensor.
-
Just in time, but doesn't sound like an incredible upgrade. No IR, no ND, no anything really, just some different thicknesses that noone knew or talked about. This is another issue that BM has to address. They knew about it and never said anything? Supposedly, people were buying the wrong adapters for a year? Does this sensor need any other special treatment? That means that every image we have seen so far from any adapter is inferior of what is supposed to be. The worst part of than equation is that we need different Metabones for different m43 cameras?! That sucks big time and is a significant cost that almost negates P4K price advantage (if you add everything the FS5ii has and does) and doesn't help with other m43 cameras either. We definitely have to see some proper independent tests. 2 X Metabones for P4K and 2 X Metabones for other m43 camera is an approximate cost of 3100-3300€ here. BM has handled poorly every P4K issue so far. There is always the price excuse and the "small market" manufacturer, but there are almost a different question mark every week, or two.
-
Another similar body is always the better option. I have 4 similar APSC cameras and match and mix with various lenses. I do not use small sensored devices (except Mavic 2 Pro which is 1"). Isn't the LX100, maybe an option?

+1000 We were learning that our actions had real consequences in this world and our life. Now, stupidity is just normal, and this can cause random bad situations that is very difficult to predict and protect from. People are getting killed for a selfie these days.. And the music..we had Seattle, we had Bristol, we had Madchester and the warehouses at Brixton!

How old are you brothers3?! Haha! I do not know who these people are, but that wasn't funny and I am surr they didn't have any license from all those people to put them on youtube. Also, if I was that guy waking up at 6:00 every morning to go serve 999 coffees u til 11 o'clock, I wouldn't probably be that polite.
-
That @BTM_Pix guy is getting lazy. He runs only 49 promised projects simultaneously, a hundrend we do not know yet, and another hundrend projects we will never know about!

Here the Viltrox is 180€ and the Metabones 780€! The price difference is so vast that I am thinking to get both the M1 and M2 just in case. Both are a little bit over 300-320€. Are there not any other brands?
-
@leslie What adapter is that? The EF-M1? Have you not tried any more modern lens to check how the electronics work between the lens and the camera? You bought the adapter for just this one lens? Don't you have other lenses on different mounts? The 2X crop is not an issue, per se, when you use native lenses. I will be ordering the 12-100mm 4f Olympus which is a great all arounder going 24-200mm with great manual focus mechanism and amazing build quality. Sorry from brining it up again, but I hate bowl cancer. I hate it down to my stomach.

Canon rush to reassure investors as camera profits plunge 64%

This is a typical human antagonistic archetypical situation and I do not care if it is the stone age, or the nuclear age, we will always try to have the best stone (or obsidian), the best nuclear weapon, the best iPhone, or the best autonomous car, either we need it or not. First of all, the number is 67%. That is a huge number. That is a huge number, 67% of humans, in 2050-2060 that translates to something like 7billions! Even 1% of those 7.000.000.000 are a lot! To try to be competitive and overcome their antagonists, the easiest and fastest way is to beat them at the hardware level. While skills and knowledge are very hard and slow to achieve, buying a better camera than the next guy (and a better sound kit) will be the first step for e-domination. Sound is a good example of that. If you compare sound quality accessible to amateurs in 1979-1989-1999-2009-2019 you will see that now we have unimaginable features and sound quality for less money in the history of productions, and what I hated most from early youtube (and still..) is bad sound. It was always the same, and it will be always the same story. When everyone uses a tool, the professionals have to use a better version of that tool, and then the amateurs becoming tools themselves, buying into things they do not understand and don't know how to use, like the dSLR revolution. Everyone bought a cheap, or not that cheap, dSLR with a kit lens, and since then and after a few hundrend clicks, are collecting dust in their closets. -
The Great Hack is a must watch documentary. This girl is very talented, in a very well-read and educated way, if you knows what I mean (I mean, exactly the opposite of the kids than answered that survey!).. ..but seriously, we lived the glorious 90s and early 00s, whats going on with the music these days?!

"Each Speed Booster® is designed specifically for the filter stack of the sensor." It may be something specific and significant. I assume the pricing will be similar to the Ultra, and they already sell 2 products for the camera, I do not see that they would have a new product if they didn't have a specific reason. Would they lie about it? Maybe they have inside knowledge that we do not, and the Speedbooster is a very important part of the P4K ecosystem anyway. Could be an IR filter there? Or an IRND? I have the Regain already, so I will be looking for an adapter without glass to pair that in the early days, of September, I guess. How's the Viltrox ones I wonder, the M1 and M2 and if there is any other cheap adapter worth mentioning here.

https://www.metabones.com/article/of/BlackmagicPocketCinemaCamera_4K Have anyone heard anything about the new P4K Metabones? I would be reluctant buying one of the older ones, knowing that a new specialized one is coming. Does any of the cheap ones work? I have a lens regain for now.

Black Mirror has several such episodes. Most of the younger people I meet in sets are seriously underperforming while overperforming in social media (taking selfies with the actors, loose focus all the time and checking their phones constantly). I am not even on social media, and they had super amazing photos holding long boom poles and whatnot, but they couldn't boom to save their lives.. When I started 20 years ago, we were shooting 3 camera setups with NO cut in soap operas. Now we shoot 2 cameras and we cut, and still they can not do it! I am trying the last few years to find a boom op that I can keep, I am trying to educate them with all my experience and knowledge (that didn't happen in the older generation), and still they underperform so bad, that they jeopardize my job. Now, I am trying to find someone in my generation, or a generation older than me, and I am talking with even 55-60 years old boom ops! It is what it is. When they will be 40-45 years old, none of our opinion will matter because they will live in their own world. Older generations f@$€ed up big time anyway, that is why I have a small hope that this time it can get better, except the climate, and the A.I, and the Ebola, and the overpopulation, and the nuclear disasters..kind of scary, and I have kids of my own..but I still have some hope in humanity, maybe because of those said kids. -

They do not care "The biggest attractions are creativity, fame and the opportunity for self-expression, with money trailing in fourth place." This generation is going to be something else. I am not sure if it is for good or bad, but definitely going to be very different. -

Wow, that was a lot more than I expected and 100% supports my comment above. 14% also said Filmmaker. 67% is a possible camera buyer. I can see a few P4K squeezed there among camera phones and Osmos. -
@Mokara +1+1 for the Samsung comment! What NX1 and NX500 did in 2015 and 2016 with no overheating and recording straight for 73min was science fiction. The camera and its construction was a masterpiece of engineering. So clean internal design and nicely constructed with their first try.. I still remember the special press crusifing the NX500 for the 4K crop, while it took the rest of the industry a few years to catch up, and some still haven't. It was a 799€ (kit with a PZ lens) camera in 2016! Such an incredible deal..(I got the DE version with extra batteries and charger for the same money).

Not only that; population and life expectancy will sky rocketed in the next 50 years. Nigeria will be nearing a billion people and Africa in total will be second continent in population! So, they won't be any jobs anyway! I trust good ol'capitalism. They need customers for products and services. 4 hours! https://theweek.com/articles/696644/why-should-work-4-hours-day-according-science 3 hours! https://bigthink.com/big-think-books/vicki-robin-joe-dominguez-your-money-or-your-life -

Bring it on! 15 hours work per week is my dream! Humans are not supposed to work 10-12 hours per day (+ an hour or two go and come back). Here, all the TV jobs are 10-12 hours, and in some productions it is even more. Most (almost all) of them do not even pay overtime. Everyone points out the negatives, but constructing machines to do the repetitive shitty jobs is a huge opportunity for the networked humanity to achieve great things (like explore other systems and colonize space e.t.c). Do we really need people working at McDonalds and Walmart? Is this what Aristotle, DaVinci, Nietzsche, Sagan dreamed of humanity? I say, bring in the robots, until they revolt, and kill all of us, of course... -
A usual professional system (Rx/Tx and a pro lav) costs 1500€ on average and can go significantly higher (e.g I am ordering a couple DPA 6060 lavalier mics that will reach 800€ each without the accessories). What did you expect for 200€? At the moment, the best/cheap solution is the Sony UWP series, and that has a lot of limitations also (especially with range).
