Full frame rival sales figures = grim reading for everyone vs Sony
Kisaha replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
In my opinion, and use, the 28mm is too much for most of the things I do. It is not wide enough. My workhorse lenses for APS-C start from 16mm (24mm in 35 equiv, 16-50 are good for workhorse.) and m43 from 12mm (again, 24mm in 35 equiv. The Pana 12-60 and Olympus 12-100 are great). I have used a lot of times 18mm lenses (18-110 and the cheap 18-105mm Sony, 18-35mm and 18-135 EF-S for Canon) and most of the times I was missing those few 4mm at the wide end. I agree with you, the recently priced reduced A7iii is really tempting - it is the best A camera ever made - but are still lacking on a few important things for pro use. -
A comment I read there "the EOS M50 alone outsells all other mirrorless cameras in last BCN ranking published and sells at least 5 times more than the Sony A7III. In this same ranking, Canon owns 27% market share in MILC only with M50 and M100. ". Which is true by the way. I am sure a6300/6400/6500 is a bigger money maker for Sony than their full frame cameras. Those a6xxx cameras must be dead cheap to make and sell many more times than any other Sony full frame camera. Except software enhancements they barely have any hardware R&D costs for almost half a dozen years. Well done Sony! (Even though still I wouldn't spend a dime for any of the A or a cameras).

Be careful with burn ins and the such. OLED TVs are not really appropriate for editing right now. I wouldn't treat a 1500-2500$€£ investment as a common TV. Go the QLED route then.

"..and he blames your TV settings or the quality of your screen if you had trouble making out what was happening. After all, Wagner says the show was directed and shot like a cinematic experience that could be viewed in a movie theater, even though it’s predominantly streamed at compressed quality to screens of all shapes and sizes." There is no logic in these arguments. It is a TV show and they should have taken consideration of all the limiting factors. I do watched it on a manual calibrated OLED HDR (one of the brightest of 2018, goes up to 800nits or something), and still was too much dark at points. Also, there was Breanne and some other guys always cheating death(sic) for straight 60minutes. They should have died in the first 15minutes! Such an Epic battle and a few 3rd and 4th rate characters died, oh, and Theon, but he should have been dead seasons ago.

..and right now (I am at work) we are shooting on a Samsung SSD and a few SD cards (P4K and 2 GH5). It is crazy how cheap you can shoot these days. The EX back then was close to 6-7000$ (can't remember exactly but it was a great deal of money). Also remember the Letus days with the EX3..can't really complain nowdays!

And Air and Spark and the other, the smaller one. Those are too many already. Mavic 2 Pro is pretty close to Phantom territory already, especially in price! No consumers, no prosumers, and not a lot of pros, will take a Phantom against the convinient design of the Mavic. It is really the sweet spot for most of us. If they want to go bigger and more pro-like, then Inspire. It does make sense for me. I noticed that in the Our World documentary they were using Inspire's in the worst of conditions. If they are good enough for such a project, then they are good enough for most of us.

I was using one of those for almost a decade. My favorite Sony ever. The last couple of years I am avoiding it because the image doesn't cut it well anymore and we have the JVC LS300 as our central event camera, but the EX is greatly missed. Haven't found a similar formula with the JVC yet, it does mostly wides, while the EX was a do it all tool. The lens is amazing, but I remember how expensive, and rare, the media were when the camera was new. We had a 16GB only for almost a year, until Sony brought us new cards!

1) too many unproven systems 2) too many EF and Nikon lenses. Most professionals do not change systems at will. 3) recent cameras are good enough already for most uses and users. 4) video is a very important aspect and there are a lot of non traditional players offering good video solutions. From Blackmagic to action cameras to 360/VR to drones to DJI e.t.c 5) Sony did it! But that doesn't mean that this lead won't change in the next few years. Canonikon were relatively late to the game. -
It was definitely dim. I was waiting for a very big file to show up (5GB) and even that was too dark. I watched on my OLED on a custom day profile (it is brighter than my usual night custom) with dim lights and it was very difficult to follow at times. The dragons fight also, that was a mess. They should have used some colors or something to make the dragons stand out, same for the soldiers. The strategy on the battlefield was a complete mess also. I read about history and historical battles, and the whole thing was disappointing. They didn't do any reconnaissance, they send their shock troops (cavalry) first without even knowing the enemy (cavalry never utilized with such a way in history), they had only one line of defense just a few meters from their walls, they had their machines in the second or 3rd line(wtf!), while the dead were at the ring of fire they were just looking at them (wtf2!use your arrows!), totaly mis-used their tactical advantage of 2 dragons (air support), the strategy in the walls was subpar, at best e.t.c The whole thing was impressive though and the director kept the rythm very well in my opinion. Certainly great television. Took them 55 nights to shoot, by the way. 55 for a TV episode must be somw kind of record. What happened to the Direwolf?! It was there for 333 frames, and then gone as a Ghost!

H265 files for import are supported. I believe you can not export in H265. @BTM_Pix I had to do a very simple and small 5 sec/5MB video for use on a site, so I did the exact same on my gaming laptop (i7/16GB RAM/1060 6GB) and the 8GB RAM Surface Go. I used 4K H265 footage from NX1 cameras. I have no clue how the new CUT function works, so I did it in the traditional way. The export took 8seconds on the laptop and around 30seconds on the Surface Go. It is not ideal, but honestly I was expecting much worst. Certain things are possible.

Does the free version imports H265 files?

The 12-100mm 4f Olympus is an amazing do it all run n gun zoom. Yes, it is 4f, but that keeps its size and weight at minimum, while even with the GH5 (not a great low light camera) can be - and it is - used in most instances. For a GH5S/P4K/Z camera that can go easily up to 3200-6400ISO this lens is all you need. And the subject separation is there is you zoom in a bit. Nothing like a good tele end for walking heads and whatnot.

What now?!

The EOS RP is down to 1299 with the free adapter AND a free extension grip! I would love to have a cheap EF capable full frame camera for casual use, but this RP is so underperforming that I just can't make it happen, yet. Maybe for 999$?

They do not go back. It is just too early for their new mounts and not in the best era, but they are not going back. They have so many millions of lenses sold that is going to be difficult to move the needle early on, but after a couple of years they will. EF lenses can - or at least could - sold all these underwhelming bodies, but there are not enough - or cheap - R lenses to sell the underwhelming mirrorless bodies.
-
Actually that is not a bad price with the adaptor. I am wondering if the sales have been satisfactory so far, because this is a big drop, and very soon.

Hire someone to do your videos and enjoy your holidays and festivities. There is a whole photo/video market here with filming summer holidays. Adding a 360 camera instread a GoPro is a very convinient idea. Insta X is amazing, the new Ricoh has 1" sensors.

For the price of an iPad and iPhone I got my phone, Surface Go and a gaming laptop. Do not know why you have to bring Apple to everything we talk here. These foldables are quite expensive now, but in 3 years they will be quite mainstream. I am sure there will be an iFold in a couple of years, more expensive than anything else and you will jump to it like is the greatest thing ever! What @BTM_Pix said, and I have expressed before, is that Samsung with 4.6"/7.3" are too small for a smart phone/tablet and the whole concept would be more interesting/practical if it was a tablet, becoming a super tablet. Phones are big enough already, and small tablets are not selling very well - if at all, but 10-13" devices are becoming very popular productive tools and they sell easily for 1000 and up to more than 2000$€£, so foldable prices already..

Make the e-ND first! How do you import and where do you store the imported videos? The Surface has a USB C port that you can do litteraly anything, and a micro SD expansion slot that one can use to store and export at will, or even transfer DJI footage. Also RAM is very important, and 8GB can be enough for a lot of basic tasks. A few years ago we were editing on 8GB RAMed desktops!
-
You can use a monitor or hotel TV for the interface, the important thing is if it can handle some editing. You can not expect too much from a medium priced tablet replacement, making a few basic tasks on the field and maybe later in the hotel can be enough. The Pro line has left behind a lot.
-
I am waiting the 8GB RAM one, do you think it is possible to run Resolve? Any other options for very light stuff? I decided against the Surface 6 for price/portability/USB C, so I wasn't expecting anything out of it, but I am wondering.. I love keyboards! Seriously, maybe a pen/touch interface can be possible. Editing apps are too complicated to have only touch interface, or else it could be a tap marathon.

Funny how everyone dismisses Windows, but we have replaced all our previous Apple devices with Android/Windows. Last castle is falling tmrow that my Surface Go will replace the Air 2 (completely useless for almost everything, not even the slightest of multitasking) we have, but the war was won when I gave me lady an S9+ instead of her iPhone last year! You can wait for whenever Apple will give you ports (or take the few you have!), or true file systems, or logical solutions to reasonable needs, or just spend less for more and go a different OS.

As I said previously for the Deity(Aputure back then) microphones, it doesn't worth to "invest" on their new concepts. Their 2nd versions are much better. This is a standard procedure for Chinese products, and especially Aputure. If you see their lights also, the mkII versions are MUCH better than the first ones, and for the same price. Check the recently released 120 and 300. In this one, the noise floor is too pronounced for me, they couldn't match right with any of my other equipment, and the latency is kind of tricky, because I always running 1-2 mics + my wireless and usually shooting 50 frames. Plus the WiFi interference seems to determine the distance, and I shoot on some buildings (in the city center or government buildings) that have 30-50 wi fi networks, or more, and my UWP have been sufficient so far. Also, I believe the design can be improved in the next version, which won't be very far away. September 2020 will be in the market, for sure!

If I use an ND filter (which I am planning to do anyway) is there less IR, or it is completely irrelevant? If I have to use ND, do I have to put ond of those aforementioned filters before or after the ND?
