  1. I do not remember the scene, but they could just took an artistic decision. Not everything has to be technical and I do not believe anything random allowed to be broadcasted from that show. It is too good for that. Which episode is that you said?
  2. Of course it is not misleading, the technology behind them is the same. I fail to understand why you do not comprehend it! Whoever wants to choose a 2.4Ghz system can choose from the consumer Rode Wireless Go - Sennheiser XS, then goes to prosumer/pro Sennheiser AVX and the more pro featured, but still much cheaper than - even analog, but especially hybrid systems - Rodelink, Audio Technica ATW and soon from the Deity Wireless. A 2.4Ghz system is a 2.4Ghz system. A full analog system is a full analog system, and a hybrid system brings together the best of both worlds. As simple as that. I explained the tech behind the Sennheiser and the Lectrosonics and is much different, calling them the same is misleading. UWP is closer to the Lectros tech, and that is why we bought them, in tech principle, the UWP are the Poor Man's Lectros.
  3. - Technically they are, and of course they are, and that's the case. The limitations and advantages of each concept are very closely related to the direction each company took when they were designed each one of those and tbey were driven by cost, mainly. The full digital Ghz crowd is based in the same principles and I wouldn't be surprised if they even use same components. In this time, a full digital Ghz design is the simplest and cheapest way to make a full digital wireless system because there are unlimited such components that are used in literally unlimited product codes. For the history and a more actual representation of the market, I add another one in this category that people use for some time now and they work very good. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1060929-REG/audio_technica_atw_1701_l_system_10_digtal_wireless.html - As of the Rode; The Filmmaker Kit costs around 280€ (there is a place selling them 274€ but I do not know them), I said "after all said and done" and not everything is said yet, give it a summer or two, and we will see. Even now, with the Go not sold yet in our territory, the Deity not selling yet in our territory, the XS just arrived (299€ the interview kit), the AVX still selling for 700€, the Audio Technica is just 370€ and the Rodelink 280€, and the Deity will be around 599-699€ (not official pricing yet) but with 2 Tx. Do you see the pattern in pricing here? 2.4Ghz are cheap..at least cheaper than other technologies. - I add a comment for another forum here, to remind the people that they have to do their own research and not follow blindly what other people (that they do not really know!) say. These are real sound professionals by the way. "Mattias Larsen #149 Posted 3 hours ago 6 hours ago, Eric Thomas Rice said: Myself and a buddy checked them out at NAB. He clipped on the mic, I manned the bag. He walked honestly about 7 feet before multiple dropouts. I understand its NAB and there's RF everywhere BUT that's supposed to be the point of 2.4ghz auto-switching, correct? Bag was upright, TX was upright both in front and behind the wear-er. We switched and he had the same thing. Thanks for sharing, that is too bad. It seems as Michael Wynne had a similar experience in a post that is now deleted. To be honest a G3 system might also fall short in 7 feets at Nab. But it is worrying with the 2.4 band with everything that is already crammed there on a shoot and hearing these testamonials makes me confident in staying G3/2000 a bit longer. "
  4. Lectrosonics LT are digital hybrids so NOT at all comparable with the G series. Rodelink amd Deity are full digital working in 2.4GhZ, same principles, which are NOT comparable to G series/Lectrosonics/Sony UWP. The Rodelink is to the Deity what a Sony UWP is to the more advanced hybrid systems (analog/digital). You are getting there, just loosing the higher end characteristic. The same principles of full digital GhZ devices applies to Rode Go, the new small Sennheiser and the AVX series. The Rode Go and Sennheiser are consuner. AVX is prosumer or pro (not for sound professionals though because of their "auto" function and consumer characteristics). After all said and done, the Rodelink will be a dead cheap solution that would be found used for silly money. Maybe double digit.
  5. who are they?!! The most interesting part in my opinion is that there is a "low" - but very capable - tier for m43 video specialized cameras, and they can mix and match accessories and equipment for the mount. This is quite a market at the moment. Also, Chinese lens makers are multiplying by the year! It was a segment that Chinese were rather behind the previous years. Also, the market starting from lower and lower each year. Expect to earn less, as it goes. Wish the Multi Turret system comes in m43 with reasonable price. Also.20-70, which is what? 40-140mm? Noone can have a run n gun lens starting from almost standard range. My sweet spot personally is 24mm, so 16mm in S35, that is why I am stuck with my old NX1 and the 16-50S lens, and with lens stabilization, and the unique 2-2.8f I am super covered in everything. As you can see the Olympus has a basic, but good enough for me stabilization, and what it looses in light 4f instead of 2-2.8F of the NX, gains in zoom range, which I am ok with (for the price, I would get a little more light for sure but can't have it all. The lens is rather small and light also). If it was 14mm in the wide end, just it isn't enough. One reason I was never excited for the 18-35mm. I am loosing all the 2mm from the wide end and 15mm for the tele end, also the stabilization, and gain just 0.2f for almost all the range (until 32-33mm in S) while sharpness is pretty similar.. I would always get the Olympus 12-100mm 4f as a run n gun specialist for m43. We already do and I am super happy about that lens.
  6. Both the touch screen - almost unusable for my fingers, and the menu knob on the side - which do a million thing - are dealbrakers for me in the field. Small PFL buttons on Zoom are terrible also though.

    Canon XA50

XC15 ergonomics (with a little improvement) are excellent in my opinion and a good basis for a killer small video camera. A cheap-ish one (2-3000$ in Canon money) with EF-M (and adapted EF-S) lenses would be amazing and a sure hit for events, weddings, documentaries e.t.c In this price range cheap lenses are an advantage also. Of course if Canon can sell you such a camera 4 times the size - 4 times the weight and 4 times the price - throwing there a raw lite cheese, in the form of C200, then why bother??!! One of the disadvantages of the LS300 was exactly the classic-y video handycam form factor, which isn't suitable for handheld use like the XC/C100/FS5 are, and not cinema style either. In my opinion that is the issue with the P4K too. It is a video camera mimicking a classic photo camera. Why?! The LS300 is still a great value for money option of course.
  8. Seriously?! A big bravo, if you are not making these up! As of the specs of the sensor, Canon probably has a financial formula that equates to: whatever I sell them they are buying, so just have some similar specs and pray that they will never find out! However anyone sees it, if you can sell something, with whatever technology, then why spend capital to buy important components from someone else?
  9. 1 person for 5 cameras. That is so old school..
  10. Every day a new surprise from Canon!
  11. Why is that scary?! Machines then, robots now, doing all the labor and humans use the most important and powerful part of their bodies - brain, is the dream since stone age. The most depressing thing that is happening in my country are the people at the roads collecting tolls from the passing cars. We have hundrends and hundrends of those, and there are people inside those boxes that you give them money, give you chance , if needed, and your receipt. For some travels you have to stop 10-15 times, which is stupid a) they spend billions to cut 10-15min of travel time, and then stop you every 15-20Khm to pay tolls! b) you have already pay all these through taxes, why add another 25-55€ one way? (Every Khm of high way road costs almost a 1.000.000€ in my country, which is 10 times what costs in EU! Can you guess why? Some are getting very rich building roads here! This is happening since the end of world war ii and the Marshall plan..big story..one reason this country deserved its financial exhaustion, but nothing changed..). These jobs are considered very good ones, because the pay good, and you do just that. Everytime I see them I feel so sorry for them. Imagine doing that 40 times per hour X 8 hours X 5 days a week for 20-30 years! What a waste of humanity.. This is happening already. I know specificaly a top TV station here that have only 1 camera operator and controls 3-5 cameras from the control room. They do news and most of their internal productions like this.
  12. Too new. They targeted specifically 3 categories. Cheap one for ENG (visible, kind of rugged) - which Sony/Sennheiser/Rode/Audio Technica/e.t.c have similar options that start from cheaper and go to higher. Middle ones - good for everything, DPA 4060 and Sanken COS11 are the king here, the difference is price is around 20%. I would pay the 20% premium. Tiny ones: B6 and I am ordering the DPA 6060 as a top option. The difference against the 6060 in price is big here, but 6060 takes the best characteristics of everything (rugged design and cable, water repellentless, top -as in, best ever!- sound quality and a tiny tiny design). All in all, it seems like the best ever made, so you pay a premium for that too. Also it is out in the market just very recently, so another 5% premium! OscarSound Tech have a mic in the latter 2 categories for less that what the Deity cost for years, they just do not have any marketing whatsoever! Audio Technica has some interesting designs also. I am surprised how people forget about this Japanese company that produces amazing value for money products in every category, and some unique designs. Foot note: Sanken has also a very very small capsule, smaller than the European Industry standard DPA 4060, but not as tiny as the tiny ones. Also it comes with a package having a lot of extras.
  13. If you are happy with the G3s, then try to find a cheap used one. They usually don't break easily. I know people still using their G2s and they are happy with them. Rodelink can be found for dead cheap also and can be a good solution (same Deity technology) if do not mind the size (they are huge!). Personally, the absolute minimum for me are the Sony UWP series, they are hybrid and have true diversity, a characterestic found in more expensive systems. The Deity Wireless will be a good solution, we are waiting for the first real reviews and comparisons. They can easily become your first setup. There are always the Rode Go and the new Sennheiser systems, but they are too consumerish for my taste. Wait for the new Deity (they will sell loads of those!) and see, or else check the first option (cheap used G3).
  14. https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCjL6MFoRxI9dbybAYO4uNzA This is another one, I like that he is talking from the perspective of the boom op which is becoming almost a "lost art".
  15. I meant, experienced ones (more than 5-7 years experience, and at least a few series of broadcasted material and real films), I said two, I should say none! Jwsound is a good source of information by established professionals, and except some kids and a few others with limited years on the job, this guy is giving nice advice https://m.youtube.com/user/ThatWasSound The Judd guy explains things nice and easy and is a valuable source of information, but I am not sure if he has ever worked on a scripted job, a soap opera, a TV show or a feature film.

  17. Deity in 2 years (will) have all the equipment I gather from 7 brands, that took them years to R&D, and for 3-5 times the money. Sorry for being sceptical about most of those. I am only enthusiastic about their wireless system so far, because indeed, electronics have moved a lot in the last couple of years and you can get better performance for cheaper, but for the rest, I would be more sceptical. I was right in the beginning of their Deity Aputure (back then), when all the youtubers were screaming "416 killer of half the price" when that microphone was nothing like the 416, wasn't even the same internal design or anything. It was an outright lie, to put the 416 in the same sentence with the Aputure Deity back then. The only things in common were the shameful copy of the 416 in resemblance, and that they both are mics! They admitted that, and now I saw they have a 3rd edition of their first mic. There are thousands of people that bought the first two, and in just 13-15 months time they are loosing more value of their purchase! Especially the first one was such a cheap and underperforming design, it was really a same. Also, there are just a few true working sound men of real experience and value (maybe 2 persons) participating in the youtube conversation, so most of the - Aputure influenced - reviews are from the usual "youtubers" crowd, people with little to no real experience with production sound. Instead of buying a new Aputure design every year - until they reach German standards - maybe just buy a good one from a reputable and experienced manufacturer (Audix, BeyerDynamics, AKG, Audio Technica, some Rodes, Neumann, Sennheiser, e.t.c )from the beginning, and let the new players experiment with somebody else's pocket and time.
  18. They seem that they invest a lot of money on this project, maybe they should add a few liras for a proper English translation! "We are an enthusiastic team and brothers. Company story is based on birth of us indeed. Our team is based on mechanical engineer, industrial product designer and cinematographer brothers, came together to create unique, user friendly and high quality products for people at world, what make us to design and produce this kind of products is unstoppable impulsion of creativity inside. Before decide to produce commercial product we have designed and used products for daily use, after experienced faces who saw our designs we decide to make it commercial. We wish to be team with our costumers, we need their power of ideas. We need see happy faces to feed our creativity and to be happy." I am not sure if the payload is good enough for such a big and heavy (3.5Kg) gimbal, but it seems really well thought in general.
  19. There are other amazing things happening in the industry right now that this is the least interesting. We will get past over the "5DmkII bokeh obsession" and we will move on on different and more important things. I was reading that we do not know most of the jobs the generation Alpha will do when they grow up, maybe in a year or two dSLR bokeh on a phone will be a thing (or that was a couple of years ago?!), but it will be not even a phrase in the book of the 21st century. Still 2019, imagine 2029, or 2049!
  20. Price?! Price of the simple NX-L?! Give us something Luca!
  21. Obvious, size - complex syndrome of who has it bigger than the other! That shows a lot about the situation both are at the moment. They are trying to compete in imaginary segments, while the rest of the industry is moving to 2030.
  22. Go on! Still I am not aware of the technology of changing the voltage - increase ND, what I know is that to vND something with glass, is very very expensive, and my 100euros ones do not worth a dime. One has to go to Breakthrough Photography, or more, to have what you have to have from a vND! another option could be to find an "easy" and standard way (let's say 72mm to be the most for a lens's diameter) and try indie go go it, or something. People are funding all kind of crazy ideas, and this is something really practical that is missed by the community, and especially the "lower" tier (GH5/S, P4K, Z cam, all hybrids) which are not going to "invest" on a C200, just because it has internal ND.
  23. How is it possible to change ND sensitivity on there?! It seems to me like a "small outside - huge inside" concept from the 29th century. Don't you need physical space to have on/off positions? And the glass has to be top notch, which is very very expensive, but there is no shortcut on that anyway.
