We r shooting all kind of film and video productions for decades and decades and didnt even have the ability for 1600 and/or very fast lenses! I shot a whole corporate today with a C200 and 2 L lenses, and never went above 1000iso and my aperture was 4-5.6 at all times. 90% indoors and on a very rainy day. You, youngsters, like to shoot on your basements, public catacombs or abandoned mines!

..and that is just 5.7K. With 8K can have 6K stabilized. Easily.. People misunderstood resolution, it is needed for more than one reasons, and not native (8K-6K-4K) delivery.

If you read about Utopian anarchism, then is a good thing. It talks about a society that needs no laws and restriction organs because everyone is just and fair with unlinited respect for the next person, whoever that person is (race, sex, education, all are irrelevant of that respect). Living for 4 decades on this planet and reading as many historical books as I can, I am sure this is impossible as of now! Still, to dream of anarchy is not always a bad thing, is closer to a perfect society that we have right now.

Mixpres are too small for their own good. Personally I find them too small, and more suited for the dSLR crowd. Even friends that own MixPre 6, prefer the more professional approach of F8, and F8 is tiny, considering it has 8 XLR inputs. You have to pay a lot of money for 8 XLR inputs on other brands. F6 is certainly interesting, but it is a bit overkill for recording voices for a small production, because that's why we are using our F8s and MixPres, or else you use a Sonosax, Zaxcom or the expensive SDs. Edit: the FPN battery is a great thing also. That is how I power my F8.

Blackmagic continues its study in ugliness! It is unbelievable how they failed both in form and factor..

In general, EU is at the top of democratic sensibility, environmental laws, health and safety rules, anti-trust/monopolies regulations (we have a new scandal of German car manufacturers VW/Mercedes/BMW exposed by internal affairs), safer and greener cars, e.t.c e.t.c e.t.c Southern and Eastern countries have a lot of catch up to do with central and North European ones, but at the same time, the North could have been a bit milder. What happened to Greece is equal to a genocide (there are the facts all over the net) but they could have done something to protect their (my) country a lot of years before, so I mostly blame the natives! Maybe you can't see that, because NZ is even better tham EU, but at the same time extremely small in population, but with a lot of resources and land (and sea) geographically, so a lot easier to governed right. If you compare with the majority of the world (including U.S, all of central and South America, Africa, most of Asia, if not all) EU is still a paradise!

NZ tax system: Personal income 33% from $70,000 30%: $48,001 to $70,000 17.5%: $14,001 to $48,000 10.5%: $0 to $14,000 Company income 28% "Key features of New Zealand’s tax system include: no inheritance tax no general capital gains tax, although it can apply to some specific investments no local or state taxes, apart from property rates levied by local councils and authorities no payroll tax no social security tax no healthcare tax, apart from a very low levy for New Zealand’s Accident Compensation injury insurance scheme (ACC)." Haha! Almost all of those are payable here!

Even in U.S, the free-est market of them all, unions are unbelievable powerful. Just out of curiosity. A) do you charge payment,+VAT? Mandatory here. B) what is your insurance status? Insured per job, or self-insured? (To be self employed here means that you have to insure yourself for future pension/health and you have to pay every month, regardless if you had a job/income) C) do you give an official taxable receipt for your services? Here is mandatory. D) as a company, even if self employed, have to have a registered (not a shoe salesman!) accountant, which for me is 50€ per month+ VAT=62€ ..plus all the aforementioned I described on the previous posts.

The camera didn't even have a menu! I am sure it will much better on release, but it seems more like a prosumer experiment and it may get lost between the prosumer grey area, not really an amateur's full auto futuristic dream nor a professional's full metal jacket.

https://www.newsshooter.com/2019/04/08/we-take-sharps-upcoming-8k-micro-four-thirds-camera-for-a-spin/ Seriously, wouldn't most of you prefer this form factor for the Pocket4K?! It even has a hinge, an even bigger 5.5" screen, and almost all the same I/O. Of course it lacks the front facing Rec Button but I can live with(-out) that!

NAB 2019 predictions and major talking points - BMPCC 4K Pro anyone?!
Kisaha replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I didn't particularly followed Panasonic's presentation (is it even on?) but I read somewhere about an 8K studio camera that will put even more cameramen to unemployment (different angles and zoom from 1 camera, auto-follow e.t.c)! It seems like companies do not need the main events to present their products anymore. That is the case with motor companies also. Ford presented their new SUVs on their own event in Amsterdam while there was a whole motor show happening a few kilometers away (in Paris) a few weeks ago. Too many announcements in one event is not good marketing anymore, especially now that they do not need traditional press. -
NAB 2019 predictions and major talking points - BMPCC 4K Pro anyone?!

Most interesting announcement from Sony is a slightly smaller UWP wireless system. -
maybe you should wait for the professional R camera, or the C100mkIII which should be here relatively soon. If you can't wait, then another R. If you feel lucky, go for a C200, it is what a C100mkIII should have been, but with Raw lite and 5/3 of the cost. In my opinion all these tools (R, C100mkII, C200) are way overpriced for what they do in 2019, but if you want to go Canon, these are the only options.

To be honest I know nothing about U.S! Only from Michael Moore documentaries I have lived and worked in 4 E.U countries and more or less it was a similar system. Things are much more regulated here and we have the strictest laws and regulations (environment, food and drinks, internet, monopolies e.t.c) but for the benefit of the citizens and our societies. In my opinion, E.U and the rest that are very close in essence (Switzerland, Norway, Iceland) are the most democratic and forward thinking in the world (add Australia, NZ and Canads to those). Anyway, I was just trying to make a point, and I believe I brought a different approach to the subject matter which is true for many blue collar video and photo professionals around the world.

https://www.newsshooter.com/2019/04/08/we-take-sharps-upcoming-8k-micro-four-thirds-camera-for-a-spin/ It has an XLRmini and 5.5" moveable screen. Same Canon batteries, but more estimated time of use. The design is a bit milder to the Pocket also. -
Did you have an A7S during your career years? Most of the pros I know prefer/own a GH5 more than a A7S. I dare to say A7s is a sail safe camera for youngsters more than experienced videomakers or pros. Just go unlimited ISO and pray.

Do you buy shoes from the "hood" then? With no receipt?
-
I know. I am exaggerating to make my point, also I make the bulk of my income from TV stations and big production companies but still the shrinking of the "pro" market affects me greatly. To be self employed as I am, you have to have a physical space, and specific (taxable) codes of what you do. Also, in the office, everything has to be legal (software and hardware), while "amateurs" have everything hacked or from b- markets e.t.c Here, if you are SELF EMPLOYED you been taxed since the first euro. 1 euro of income is taxable. Also, you have to pay a series of extra taxes, and a new thing is that we have to pay for P.O.S, which in my case has to be wireless, so I paied 250€+24% VAT for the machine and 12-15€ per month for the service, regardless of using it or not. I am not going to use it. Also VAT is not the tax, VAT is additional to the tax. VAT is 24% for every product and service, by the way, so if I charge 1000€ for something, I have to get 240€ also. So someone that do not pay taxes and VAT, can easily charge 450-500€ for something I charge 1240€ and he will make the same money as me. The customer doesn't care about my taxes and VAT anyway, and if the other person can do 80% of what I do, for 40% of the money, then..you get the point.. Also, when I employ other people, I pay them legal money+taxes+VAT, the other person, usually takes 1-2 friends, or their wives (this is another recent trend, especially in weddings!) so they can go easily to 20% of what I should ask. So I have to earn just a silly percentage, just to be competitive with those, and that is why I can't compete for low budget jobs like: events, weddings, small corporates, social media content. Literally they do these jobs from 50euros, they are young people charging 50 euros for an event, or corporate. The state is getting 60% of what we earn, because they are unable to stop illegal activities and can not tax them. In reality they punish the people -like me - that follow the laws and try to do things right, while been self employed. Working for the state, which is the 25-30% of the workforce, has different rules and it is the best, but you have to deal with the corrupted political system to do so. Whoever is from western/advanced countries, try to watch this film https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graduation_(2016_film) It will help you understand a very big part of the world and/or Europe (eastern/Mediterranean countries).

Happy birthday! Live long and prosper!

@newfoundmass @noone Do you pay taxes for your income as a photographer/videographer? Do you have license for it? If not, then you are certainly illegal in your country and you can undercut my pricing because taxes here are close to 50-55%, and I have to have a physical space for my trade, which adds 300-400€ for my "shop" per month - which I never visit, but I have to have. If I get 50 pair of shoes from ebay, went downtown and try to sell them, I will be immediately arrested, and the fines are severe. However you see it, however it fits you, in every sense you are criminals.
-
The difference is that some of us are trying to make a living out of it and have invest great amount of money on education, gear and years of our life. For every non-professional that take our jobs and income, our kids starve! It is illegal for me to sell shoes and other products and services, why it is different for you? Because you can buy a camera kit for 500$ and can sell for 1/10th of my price? The jobs are specific, if no-low and mid budget jobs are made by video-pirates, they squeeze all the pros at the top, but the top is only a small precent of the paid video productions, so what is happening right now is the demise of the middle class, like in all socio-economic aspects of this decade, and anyone that has read 5 lines of a history book, when you do not have a middle class, then bad things happen!

NAB 2019 predictions and major talking points - BMPCC 4K Pro anyone?!
Kisaha replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I do not care at all about IBIS, but a more ergonomic design and NDs would be amazing for a P4K Pro! I seriously dislike the current form and desing. In my opinion is neither practical/interesting. -
Sssnake is the Thomman's in house brand, they usually offer good quality for the price. Much better than buying blind from ebay. Cordial is a brand I choose for some of my sound equipment. They offer good quality for the price but much more expensive than ssssnake. Sommer are - supposedly - even better and more expensive, but I have other brands for very expensive cables (Mogami, Canare).
