So Is a7 III Still The Dynamic Range King? (Not tolling, just asking)
Kisaha replied to Mark Romero 2's topic in Cameras
Was the A7iii ever the dynamic range King (or Queen)? -
Sorry for my reaction, but for us that started working at the 90's (I was really young back then, just saying!), all the things the P4K offers for the price is just something out of the 24th century! I agree though, I do not like the form factor, batteries (Sony L/F is the obvious choice here) and the lack of ND, but I am just puzzled of how someone can offer similar performance for less. When all the P4K have been delivered, I am pretty positive they will own the indie market. I talked a week ago or something with the representative of the local importer, and they couldn't even give a date. They are hundred of those on pre-order here, and we are talking for a very small market.

The full featured P4K is 300$ more, who in the right mind will get a much lesser camera for such a small amount, while the next option is 6500$ more?! They own the indie market with the P4K, they do not have to go cheaper. I am not even sure if they even can go lower anyway.

I do not understand the enthousiasm, a mini A7s in your pocket? That was a camera instantly surprassed by the A7sII by the way. 12megapixels tiny sensors with 2.4f (the 2 lenses). Phones take very good casual pictures destined to be viewed on phones/tablets for years now. Someone has to put an 1" sensor there, and instantly will surprass anyone in both megapixels and low light performance. The mobile phone market is one of the largest in the planet with a huge increase in profit and consumers market share, for at least 3 decades now. Amazing things will happen every year until the end of the century probably or the destruction of the human race. Whatever comes first.

Great! And it is 300€ less in my country, isn't it a little old though? Do you have any other suggestions? Maybe a Dell or Samsung? I am reading a lot of QC issues for the BenQ.

https://www.t3.com/news/motorola-razr-2019-folding-confirmed This could be an interesting proposition on the subject matter, but on the opposite side. Tiny phone (like the good ol'days!), good sized portable media device. An 7-8" tablet is small anyway these days. My very small LG G6 is 5.7" 2:1 586nits, and the Samsung S9+ went to my other (better) half as it was highly inconvinient to carry around, especially in working days (the screen shape of the Samsung is a nightmare, already changed half a dozen protective glass). I can see easily my next phone to have a similar size and a 6" screen. So why all the trouble (and money) for a 7.3" or 8" tablet, when a Surface Go or similsr exists... ..enter Razr!

This is 1200€ in my country. Certainly interesting, a bit over my budget. I will be choosing for a new 4K monitor (30+ inches) the next months. Does anyone has any other suggestion? Especially at the 999€ limit?!

hey @Aquilasfx what about the https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1432631-REG/aputure_lsc120diivkit_ls_c120d_ii_led.html ?? you can match with one of their domes (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1426992-REG/aputure_minidome_ii_light_dome_mini_ii.html) and have a very convenient and modern led. I believe I will go that route for a couple of those. It seems that the first Chinese versions of anything is just an "experimental" release, but they made most things right in the second try. The Ver.1 of both those products were kind of hit and miss.

Bladelight36 are 12792lux and the 18 are 6396, and I like the shape and usability of it. Adding a Fiilex or two (or similar) makes a full setup for most cases.

Canon EOS RP specs leaked, features 26MP sensor and 4K video

Most buy 80D to match with their C100mkII. I am still waiting for a modern C100mkiii, but it seems like that never going to happen. At the time that the C100 will offer low bitrate 8bit 4K, everyone and their mothers will have a way to offer raw. -
It can much beautifully your Arri LED panels!

The small HD Focus has its own peak focus/zebras e.t.c

No, thank you! ?

I have some friends using this combo with the C100mkII and is great. In comparison, the Ace M, even though it is between its limits, doesn't work well with the C100mkII and 70-200 2.8f combo. Maybe that is why they issued the Ace XL recently. Definitely a league above Manfrotto, no question about it! For what is worth, I do a little extra for a TV show once per week (a comedy segment inside the show) and we use some fully rigged GH5 (cage/microphone or the XLR thingy on top) with the 12-100 Olympus and EF 24-105 with the Metabones, and the Sachtler Ace M, and it is still quite a light setup.
-
2 step balancing is just so little! most have 3-5 steps with 0 also. This is just a bad design, as most setups need different settings. Imagine if you have your GH5+ 70-200, and then you want to put an 24-70, suddenly you have run out of steps, because the 70-200 is very forward heavy, the 12-35 not at all, and you will still miss a couple of middle steps for different lenses and setups. par example: The Ace M is 0-4Kg, that means that is perfect for the average mirrorless, let's say, my plain NX500 with the PZ lens or a pancake = 400-500gr, or the full rigged NX1 with the 16-50S and cage and a Focus SmallHD = 2Kg, or even a fully rigged FS5mkII with a 70-200 = 2.5 - 3Kg. The Ace XL is a 2-8Kg head, that means, you need at least a C200 camera, which starts from 1.5Kg, so easily reaching 4-5Kg, and Sony FS7mkii that is near 5Kg. For some rigs, for super professional and fully rigged situations, maybe the Ace XL is not enough. I some times operate a fully rigged C300mkii with Fuji/Arri Cine Zoom lenses, and you can not believe the tripod (Sachtler) we use! Takes 2 persons to move the set up. Just some tips for future tripod-head buyers that will check the thread!

Half cage is pretty cool! the 8sinn seems fine. If you were buying Tilta, would you get the ssd holder that fits just above the screen? The SSD cable is from the 8sinn implementation? What do you think about the HDMI adapter? I didn't know they were still people packets of cigarettes in this world (joke)!!
-
any other ideas? Did anyone checked the https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1244031-REG/flolight_bladelight18d_bladelight_5600k_led_light.html?sts=pi-ps ? great output, mimics Kino Flo design, and completely soundless. Very tempted..they are almost double price in Europe though.. I am reading a lot of complaints about Godox color accuracy.
-
Yes, at least they didn't release, and forget. Offering 4K/60p for such a cheap camera, and in 2018, was great news, now it is even better if you match with the Ninja V (because of the size) and solves the monitoring issues as well.

I got an AE-1, a couple of Ixuses, an 814 S8 one and a couple of 90s film SLRs, also many different Canon lenses. Multiple winner! -
So you do not suggest it as main lights? right? Aren't the Godox much more powerful than the Dedo's? Does any one know the Flolight Bladelights? are they any good? Aputure are not readily available in my country...
-
Sorry to say, It doesn't work like this! I understand that you wanted 2 birds with 1 hit but stabilizing and balancing equipment is a very serious issue and the best solution is to work between limits, and not even in the far minimum or maximum numbers. I am talking from experience here. Miller is a good and reputable manufacturer, but I had bad experiences with some expensive Compass kits in the past and I am never buying Miller again.

The 2mm at the wide end is a huge deal for crop sensors. 35equiv is 24mm and the other is 28mm. Not having optical stabilization on a workhorse zoom is a huge minus though. Just pick your poison.

Thanks @mirekti I should say in EU, because UK is not part of EU anymore, and it is not profitable to do business with UK for us EU citizens. Just to put things in perspective, the camera is 2380€, do the maths to find out aus/nz/us $, and is not readily available, 4-6 weeks for delivery, which isn't bad, but still not good enough for some. Still pretty interesting though, just not really competitive with the P4K which is exactly 1000€ less.

I am trying to decide soon-ish for a kit for interviews, but powerful enough to light normal short film scenes, so I need some power. Is the Godox SL50 any good, or what? I have 2 or 3.000€ budget for a total of 3 lights (plus accessories). Dedolights are a staple in our industry, but i am affraid the 2.1 are not powerful enough for my use..
