Canon EOS RP specs leaked, features 26MP sensor and 4K video
Kisaha replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
What about all the rest of the productions that shot with different cameras? What about all the rest Oscar winners that didn't use a Canon? What about the vast majority of tv and studio tv work beeing created but other manufactures? Aren't those self explantory arguments? I understand why a hobbyist like you would prefer Canon, or an - internet only content creator like Django, but defending the wrong choices of a manufacturer doesn't bring better cameras for all of us. If it wasn't for bold moves by Samsung, Panasonic and BlackMagic, C100 and 80D would be still the only choice for sub 5.000$€£ video. Luckily for us, it is not. -
Yes, I like the form factor. Z is very promising. Does anyone know if is their new m43 camera readily available in EU? Do they have an official channel here?

I am keep repeating myself, but have you thought about the Panasonic FZ2000/2500? It seems like a great and straightforward option that matches your project. Internal ND is huge when you have to control motion like you do, and 24-400 is huge for an allarounder. Also, 2 or 3 types of stabilization helps. The 1" sensor can match great with Mavic 2 pro and other similar equipment, and it is a big difference to GoPro and mobile phone's sensors. If you are "destined" for another mirrorless, the X-T3 and the stabilized 10-24mm is a great combo and much better than anything Sony has to offer in crop sensors. It seems like an a6xxx camera going right. The C kind of cameras are quite big for such a project, I am not sure it worths all the hassle when we have great mirrorless options these days that rival the cinema cameras of yesterday, or even tmrow!

200€ difference for a bunch of cables?!! The original price is crazy expensive. Got mine for 550€ during the Xmas sale. Sturdy device, ultra heavy, but I guess just right for the P4K. I have some balancing issues with all the Ronin's and camera's combination I have tried though. Crane 2 seemed like an easier gimbal to balance, and it is possible to ride the P4K with it, jusy not a perfect match.

The FSB 4 and Sachtler Ace M that were mentioned on another similar thread are 0-4kg heads. It is not good to operate at the limits of the stabilizing/balancing equipment (be it monopod, tripod, head, slider, e.t.c).

..or all that effort goes to "waste". Imagine if the rumors back in 2015 were right and Nikon and Samsung were co-making a Nikon NX1 camera. 2019 would have happened 3 years earlier. Still NX1 has the best ergonomics in business and just lost its title as the best pro APS-C camera just recently. 73min continuous recording years before the GH5, DIS+OIS years before the Canon similar system, super Amoled screens and - still in my opinion - best in business touch interface, first H265 implementation, still most megapixels in business, unique lenses ("unicorn" 16-50mm 2-2.8f OIS, very cheap and good pancakes, stelar native and tiny fisheye!), better 1080p than all crop Sony's (almost film like) and better 120f e.t.c JVC was very close to deliver an MKii for 3.5-4.000$€£, a workhorse camera not available right now and we missed that opportunity! I do not want/and I can not afford to give 9000€ for a C200, nor 8 for an EVA, I do not believe they deserve that kind of money in this economy and this era. P4K and EZ are in the right direction though.

I hate it when hu-mans stop when they are ready for their breakthrough. Samsung stopped when they delivered their first and only professional camera, when it was obviously quite ahead of its time, and JVC stopped in their first attempt for an interchangeable Camcorder/cinecamera. What a pitty.. Thanks @BTM_Pix.

The Consortium strikes back! 12 new lenses, just like that.. Suddenly, Canonikon are last in their own game!
-
I used to do fast speed recordings (slow motion) for advertisement and I stopped because we didn't have enough work! Since then, I shot one project with high speed recording (FS700, by the way), another at 100fps and nothing else! I occasionally do 50f though, just in case. I am not sure if 240f is a real selling point or just an empty spec.

If you prefer "just" a softie solution, the most modern is https://eu.bubblebeeindustries.com/products/the-spacer-bubble A little bit more expensive than the rest, but with lower profile and excellent performance. Which microphone(s) do you use?
-
"Old tool" but it was pretty much groundbreaking upon release and forward thinking equipment stay relevant longer. The codec is quite "thick" also, it is not basic 8bit dSLR video.
-
You may need a blimp system for better protection, or a softie for a more basic one. A good (Rycote) softie is the best solution (money/performance).

https://www.t3.com/news/huawei-mate-x-review-early-verdict-a-5g-folding-phone-pioneer As it seems, special press agrees that the Huawei proposition is more practical for every day use. It is also a 5G phone. I am sure, next year Xiaomi will offer one for 999$€£!! This design is here to stay I think. My phone is 5.8" and I wouldn't want anything bigger when at work, but for leisure, a tablet is much more convinient, that is why we have an iPad Air 2 and we are about to getting a 12-13" Windows tablet. Already have a 14" laptop and a recently bought 15.6"! Too many devices.. Wouldn't say no to an 5.5"-6" when I use with my Edelkrone and Ronin, and an 8" when I fly my drone and use as a monitor for action cameras or others. Now in most jobs I bring a phone/tablet/laptop.

Pocket4K is the closest thing to "perfection" - if one considers the editing suite license, the dual ISO sensor, the price and the mini XLR - but the lack of internal ND is a huge omission. We are still waiting for the one!
-
Just internal ND or e-ND, or something!
-
I disagree. It is much thicker, has smaller screens (both in phone and tablet mode) and Huawei has a special protective case in the package for free. The Samsung is 4.6", which is a silly number for a phone this day, and 7" in tablet mode, which again is close to phablet territory. Also, very thick when folded. Imagine the Huawei is thinner than an iPad. I am not buying any of these, and I usually like Korean ideas and implementation, just this one seems overrushed.
-
6.6" front screen, 6.38" back screen and 5.4mm unfolded and 11mm folded. These are impressive numbers and a lot more ergonomic than the Samsung design. Also 10% more expensive but a great indication of the future for sure.

I do not know about American pricing, I have a EU registered company which pays VAT, so the FS5ii is around 6000€ for me. FS5ii is a great camera, that is why is the best selling one, but it is starting to show its age now. Especially the sensor and AF performance. The JVC LS300 is 3000€ by the way, and C100mkII 4400€.

https://www.t3.com/news/huawei-mate-x-is-the-samsung-galaxy-fold-rival-youve-been-waiting-for Already a better one is out there!
-
I see there are a lot of people wanting a small-ish video camera under 5000money. The only options right now is the old JVC LS300 and the even older C100mkii. There is an obvious hole in the market that companies fear to fulfill. Too bad for us I guess, but Fuji/Nikon/JVC can be more adventurous and present something in this year, or the next.
-
You are buying the Cedar?! Why for?? I decided to buy the CS-1M and the Rode ambio mic, by the way..
-
What a brilliant idea! We use the camera mostly with the Metabones EF adapter, but never thought of taking advantage of it like this! Bravo! I may try my 18-135 EF-S next time around. Earning a stop here and there is very important for this sensor. As most people can see here, the LS300 is a camera with a lot of interesting and original ideas, it is not "just" another low cost camera.
-
GH4 is not even close to an GH5, there are other solutions if you try to buy from the bottom. I do not see Panasonic do a lot more than their S releases this year, and GH5 is still the top video orientated mirrorless. The only thing they can do is lower the price a bit now, and a little more again before Christmas and release a new one - probably 8K - early spring of 2020, and again they will be ahead of the bunch.
-
We had exhaustively discussed this before the GH5 and EVA releases. It is an amazing idea that unfortunately Panasonic didn't exercise. The LS300 sold a lot more than people think. It is not in the forums or the front pages of e-magazines, but I have seen a lot in the wild and the pro AV shop that sell them here have told me that it is the best selling camera of the last few years after the FS5. I know a lot of people that match one with the GH cameras (for a more dependable video design and features) and is a very common sight in weddings and live events coverage. It is start getting old (low light performance is kind of week), but a mkII could be the sweet spot for the under 5000$€£ segment.
