After all been said, a GH5 (maybe slightly used) or the FZ2000/2500 are the best solutions. Consider that the FZ is a full featured video camera (I repeat, internal ND!) that you do not have to spend not even another euro for it (maybe batteries, but this apply to everything). No external ND filter (the ok ones cost at least 200€), no lenses, no external recorder, not anything. If you can afford the GH5, you can achieve great things and is a dependable professional video tool.

LS300 has broadcast ready codecs also, just to be fair, and to be fairer, the slow motion options are unusable in my opinion Can you elaborate a little bit more on the differences and similarities of EVA vs LS300, that is a very interesting comparison and you are the first that can do it!

Check the other recent thread too. "Mirrorless Camera for long form content". Similar advice there too. Maybe the Panasonic FZ2000/2500 would be sufficient for what you do, which by the way, what do you do?! Why do you need a new camera? Are you a professional? Do you do photos at all? Do you want to make short films/family videos/holidays/travel? Youtuber? If you are a professional and you have a GH3 and can not budget for a Z6, then something is not right with your business model! If you are doing mainly video, then the aforementioned FZ2000/2500 would be perfect, it is like a small video camera with build in ND filters, and great video options, and no need for another lens (it goes from 24-400, or something similar), because it doesn't seem that you can afford any lenses at all. Even Fuji and m43 ask 4 digit prices for their top workhorsw zooms (the Olympus 12-100mm is my favorite for m43). Check the price of lenses, because if you want to have the best AF, you have to buy the top and newest lenses also, which are very expensive.

3 years ago I was like "no way I am buying this DVX red/carbon monstrosity, the new small Canon C is coming". Look at us now. Still waiting!

Thank you very much for the detailed answer. The HC-X1 is 2799euros here. What lenses can practically be used for the LS300, PZ m43 lenses? We used it most with EF lenses and the 12-60 Leica. I may get that EF-S PZ box, the 18-135 is a great run n gun solution coupled with the C100mkII, but just limited for 2019. We are missing a few good options in the middle ground just under the FS5ii/UMP/EVA territory, just can't believe that you have to go from the LS300/FZ/mirrorless territory straight to the EVA. Is a newer FZ2000 rumored, or anything?

I am just considering one for myself actually! I need one for similar use, I want something with LANC, and the in-build ND filters are a huge plus for other uses. I used to use the classic EX1 for years and years for that reason, but now the age difference shows, the video files are not very manageable. What a similar setup can be done with the JVC LS300? Even though I have not access to that camera usually (its owner moved to Paris!), it would be nice to know. I also have the 18-135 EF-S, the new nano version, and I was considering maybe the silly PZ box Canon offers, but I do not have a compatible camera right now.

Man, how one can go from a GH3 to a C200?! The usual suspects right now are the GH5/XT3/Z6, with the Z as the best true hybrid, maybe!

What can you do with the output? How is the ISO performance?

This first generation has some issues. I am sure the processing power and everything (except batteries maybe) is here but.. 1) Too thick when folded 2) phone screen is too small for every day use (so you do not have to open it every time you want to browse or just look something quickly). There is a huge non-usable area on the phone part. 5.5" would be perfect. 3) tablet size is very small. Most phones these days are already around 6" (and start from 150$€£) with very normal size and weight. loose 1.4" from your phone, to gain just a little bit for a tiny tablet (7-8" is hardly a tablet these days, when phablets are reaching those numbers)? 4) too expensive, but this is expected from the first of a new device, there are 4-5 manufacturers ready to present their variation to this subject from now till early next year. Right now is a bit lost between worlds, maybe the Razr will be more interesting with its classic clam design. Maybe they have to go to the extremes, basic phone operation for bigger and thinner tablet one.

Nay for now. Yay in a couple of years for half the money, few times the evolution and from another manufacturer.

There is a Nikon secret sauce involved which, personally, I found more magical than Canon! The Z6 with the 14-30mm is an amazing combo for what you do, and adding the V and a few extras, is a total of 4000$€£ but in my opinion near the top for both photos and videos. The X-T3, extras and the good 10-22mm stabilized is a 3000$€£ investment. The Panasonic is by far the most expensive and the least available at all!

For someone that does 90% photo, going full frame has its advantages (both realistically and imaginative!) and the Z right now is an amazing proposal winning in a lot of details. GH5 for me is a workhorse video camera with decent photo capabilities (10% or less). X-T3 is one of the best hybrids, truly can go 50%-50% if anyone wants, and the price is right.

If you can afford the Z ecosystem, go the Z6 way, if not, X-T3 will be sufficient for what you do and I big upgrade of what you are having right now. GH5 is a video workhorse but not a great photo camera (I did a couple photo jobs with one last summer), especially for someone do 90% photos. If it was the other way around (90% videos) then GH5 is a great idea.

Hallelujah! An XC design of such a camera would be Godsend. In pro world - not high end - a 10bit codec is a must, raw - not, but of course I wouldn't mind raw for free (like in P4K).

I could be buying that if it is in the 500$€£ range.

To be fair, I know 3 people locally that own one, which is exactly 3 times the people I know that own a Nikon or Canon full frame mirrorless camera, and 2 more than a Fuji X-T3, so it can't be that bad!(true story). In all seriousness though, I was expecting a better roll out of the product. It definitely will hurt sales, but not as much as for BM to care about it. This is a huge success, I know so many people that have pre-order that is crazy. If a good C100mkiii or a competitive A7siii is being announced soon-ish, will cut a lot of their sales though.

I asked the BM importer again today, and he told me that if I pre order now, I may have the camera in autumn, but he can not even guarantee October! This is kind of ridiculous..on the other hand, this camera is a bigger success than most people believe.

Obviously Japan is a unique and a lot different market than Europe! We are talking about a country that pushes 8K TV broadcasting already and the most well sold mirrorless is the M50! I only can comment of what is going on around me. Still C100mkII is my favorite video camera.

Very true, ergonomics (except some measurement facts, like screen brightness/viewfinder quality/limited touch screen capabilities/e.t.c) are somehow subjective. Personally, I am considering the GH5 - especially with m43 lenses - a bit bigger and heavier that I wanted it to be, and A7 cameras (even the iii) a bit smaller and lighter, especially for full frame lenses. The P4K is "unnecessary" wide! Can you comment on other aspects of the S1 experience? AF? Overheating? Menu and operation similarities with the GH5?

A few years ago most of the people here owned a Canon dSLR, I shot 2 hours long documentaries with a 60D back then, now, how many from the hundreds participating in this forum own a modern Canon? If you can not see that Canon is loosing, slowly but steady, a market that owned at an absolute percentage a few years ago, then what I can say. 1DX2 doesn't "dominates" a lot other segments. I wish we had real numbers here, but again in my working environment, people are using A7sII and GH5 cameras as productive video tools, while I haven't even seen even one 1D camera, ever. The most popular Canon for video these days (between photo/hybrids) is easily the 80D, and that says a lot about where Canon is today. Imagine how far a competitive Canon could take our whole segment forward. Sony, with all the mistakes they did and all the R&D they did in the backs of paying customers - with all these sub par cameras that offered until recently, did a great job for bringing cheap full frame camera to the masses. Before the RP, you could buy a A7 or A7ii for less than middling m43 cameras. Panasonic brought great video performamce to the masses and created dependable pro video cameras (GH5/s), Samsung did their thing for a few years, Fuji is offering top APS-C performance for less $€£, Nikon is finally playing all their cards when it seemed most likely that they were destined to fold. They all trying to add something up. I respect your opinion and the way you express yourself in this forum, by the way!

The funny thing is that Canon wasn't even a cinema brand for the greatest part of its history, and only a few high end films per year are shot by Canon cameras. Alexa/Red/Sony/Panasonic/Film cameras must be something like 99% of those productions. In reality, the only filmic Canon I ever owned, and I still do, is the 814..

In sport photography there are really 2 brands only. Canon and Nikon, we discussed the subject to the death recently, and is a silly argument to bring every time that Canon under-delivers; this doesn't mean a lot for other professional segments and to amateur customers. McLaren makes amazing F1 cars, don't see many around me.
