Best choice in my opinion. It is the absolute lightest/smallest and less power hungry small monitor, with the best mount (even though is a very simple design, cheap knock offs have so many shortcoming and problems. Mine stays where I want even with the largest of the F batteries), best touch User interface (you won't believe it until you own it!), build quality is OK (mine is still in perfect condition, I would rather have it in some kind of aluminium alloy) and most important, really view able in direct sunshine.

I have a set of FD lenses, from the days of film, and the 200mm 4f is quite interesting, with good sharpness from wide open, very small, and very light, with a built in sun hood (!), nevertheless, I haven't used it for at least half a decade now. Modern lenses can't just be beat in ease of use and AF performance, something that is really a must for sports photography. I advice you to search for the cheapest equivalent of the Canon 70-300 on m43 land and be merry!

Great suggestion. What about the 11-20 or the 12-24 4f? Do you have any experience with these? @thebrothersthre3 17mm (34mm) and 14mm (28mm) on m43 isn't exactly wide!

Where is Jon?! Point me ton his comments. I missed his vitriolic attitude! DISCLAIMER: this is going to the general topic. To the point now, most professionals work with M focus, with non IBIS cameras and deliver 1080p, and the percentage must be something like 95% of the total world output, or even more. Because 400 people on youtube use only AF and IBIS doesn't make it the norm. For everyone youtuber there are dozens of hundrends of photo/videographers, from 50€$£ videographers (yes, they do exist and they use mainly camcorders on a monopod) to Hollywood and Bollywoodameramen amd everything in between. I see most people here do care for youtube or something, but real life is a lot different than the latest war on specs, and the world is not only Australia and North America. The vast majority of the world still work with 70D and C100 cameras and produce glorious - low bitrate - 1080p videos! Professionals and big production companies do not change cameras at a whim, only a few, and "rich" hobbyists (rich, in comparison with a 2nd or 3rd world country hobbyist, which, you know, is something like 6-7 billions of people!). So, the adaptation of technology is not as fast as we think from this forum. Most people and organisations I know still shoot Canon by the way. 80D is like a dream for them. There are a few cameras that made a dent in the industry. C100/C300 was the first wave, FS5/FS7 the last few years (after the C300mkII release, Canon have lost most of the market), GH4/5, A7sii/A7iii are some other cameras that sold really well.

You want a better lens than the 55-250 but for the 1\3 of its price? There is a problematic in your logic! I like the Canon nano lenses, believe they are some of the greatest deals in photography, ever. The 70-300 is really good and really cheap for what it is. The new 70-200 4f is great also, but another league (especially moneywise).

I think this is a time that small drones have reached a certain price to performance ratio that is going to be very difficult to see huge differences in one year time. There is going to be a price drop in Pantom when the next one will arrive -but the next one will be near 1999$€£ in my opinion. I do not see a bigger price drop than 100$€£ on the Mavic 2 Pro anytime soon.

Between light storms and heavy rain - yes, we do have some of those here also - I managed to fly the drone today. Mixed feelings so far. Definitely the best flying experience so far for such a small drone. Very easy to do things even if you fly for the very first time. Really Impressive, and we are here flight-wise, every one should buy and can fly one (Air should be sufficient for most). Image Quality is a lot better than original Mavic (which was unusable for Pro work in my opinion) but there are a lot left to be desired. All the different crop factors (almost every mode has a different crop factor, either slightly smaller, or a lot), the bitrate is on the lower side also (of course not on the original's ridiculous level) and the frames are not up to 2019 standards where 4K/60p will be the golden norm. All in all, a huge upgrade from the Mavic 1 but not exactly the drone you can keep for more than a couple of years. I am confident that we are going to get a Zoom Pro with 1"/4K 60p/150Mbps but I am not sure if it can be possible really soon. Until then, I am sticking to 2 Pro. EDIT: Is 1080/120fps unusable, or I did something wrong?

Good for you. It is going to be the opposite with me. One of the production companies I work for have JVC-LS300 and GH5 cameras, and I am getting the Pocket (maybe, haven't ordered it yet!). It is so cheap that there is no excuse for not having one, really. I already have all I need, except the cage and the F battery adapter anyway. I even have mini XLR cables! You can keep your JVC for almost everything and still buy a Pocket for raw and other experiments. They are both m43 anyway, and probably both need a monitor.

Best middle solution: SmallHD Focus

I seriously doubt the "soon" part of your statement.

Mine as well! I am still waiting for a similar camera (smaller form factor than EVA's tier, cheaper). In the end I will just grab the P4K and I will be merry.

3 years ago ML was the bee's knees. Now, you can get a raw capable camera for 1300$, speedboost it to reach 1.3X crop factor for less than 2000$, and a camera made for that purpose, not an after thought while you still can officially service it after recording raw. Times, they are a - changin'...

We did, we do. There is still one we use from time to time. Great A or B cam to other m43 cameras, and great S35 variable sensor. Is a very dependable workhorse camera, and it does 4K/60p with Atomos, and it costs a lot less than a C100mkII. It is 3000€ right now.

I am quoting just for everyone to re-read this great post. Insta was in my shopping list for Christmas also, but finally I went full DJI (Ronin S/Mavic 2 Pro). People praising the little Osmo camera but Insta is closer to the future than that.
-
@Turboguard that looks amazing! The opposite of DJI's paper boxes. Even though I am waiting for the Ronin S to arrive next week, I would be interested to hear your experience with it. Tilta is doing great things lately.

The middle codec thing is a real thing for TV professionals, I thought that was clear until now. It is in the technical specifications on most of the contracts we sign with the TV stations here. You just can not deliver whatever you like. So, if I am spending 10.000€ for a camera (+accessories), then I would like to be able to use it for TV work and not rent, or the production company rent from me. Right now S-log is the most popular in our industry. Literally hundreds of FS7 cameras in TV stations and production companies, while I know 2 guys owning a C200 and for the very first time in history EVAs and UMP are more than a C model. This is the cheapest C camera that shoots 4K also, which is ridiculous in my opinion, there is a huge hole in the line up. So, this really is: either a hobbyist's camera, with most of them - including you - can not afford, or internet creators's camera that do not have specific specs to meet and the less choices give them ease of mind. Both of the above groups are amazing, just not the appropriate path for some of us. If I want to play with Raw for a couple projects per year I am getting a P4K, then another camera to do my other 8bit jobs, and buy a Sachtler flowtech with an FSB head, and probably buy a couple of new led lights.

If you are budget and/or performance consious you build a PC - hackintosh or not. If you want the best portable solution you buy a gaming laptop, while for myriad reasons this is not the best of ideas. Especially if you realize that the best laptops for editing are desktop replacements, or need external GPUs, so defeat the purpose of buying a very small - and ultra expensive - device at the first time.
-
Excellent suggestion, I haven't seen those mentioned elsewhere. I will surely test them. Thank you, and happy new year!
-
Never used it before. It should be here next week probably. I used the Crane 2 with the Pocket4K and it worked ok, but it wasn't a match made in heaven! Weebill seems to need some - not very straightforward - adjustments. I will write a few words as soon as I use it on a paid job. Keep up the good work!
-
@mojo43 have you worked with the Ronin S? Happy new year by the way!
-
Quite litteraly, the last hours of 2018 I did -another- present to myself and bought the 2 Pro. Honestly, the Air should have been sufficient, and the Zoom seems like a better overall proposition (Air+Fly more combo for 900€/Zoom 1250€/Pro 1500€), but I must have the "pro", don't I?! First of all, the box was sealed and everything seemed ok, but I noticed - quite easily - some minor scratches(?!) on the body. The weather is terrible here, so I won't be able to test anytime soon. Are there any specific settings and/or tips and tricks that I have to know? Happy new year to all!

With both being equally troublesome for a gimbal!
-
@Ehetyz I have a set of FD and M42(Pentax/Helios). Do you need an IR filter? What gimbal?
-
The one is wider, the other is taller. Which one is which? They seem to have a lot of capital to spend on their projects. Interesting indeed.

That wasn't at all what I meant! Nevermind, Merry Xmas and happy new year!
