Best camera accessory for 2018 in Newsshooter web site is the Atomos Ninja V. "While cameras today are finally giving us 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording, the codecs are still very hard to edit with and you will end up transcoding or working with a proxy workflow. Stick a Ninja V on that camera and retain 10-bit but with a much better ProRes option." Do you see where I am going with this?!

This is a silly topic you 2 have here. "Filmic" was always a youtube conversation, and stayed there. Also, what exactly is "filmic", and "film", there is What happen in Vegas (Ashton Cutcher and Cameron Diaz) on the TV right now. Is it more filmic than Roma, which I am planning to watch in Netflix in a while, or less, and how much? In my 19 years of career, I never heard anyone in the films, documentaries and eposidic TV I have worked "let's do this, because it is more filmic". You use the tools most appropriate for the job. @thebrothersthre3 I do not even have a FB account. Try media with real journalists, doing real journalist's job, this is very serious! @webrunner5 you always say how old are we and how demode, how did you miss the Netflix revolution?! Now at its peak, most believe that Netflix is over (everyone with content, and their mothers are doing or have streaming services). I think (and hope) it will be like spotify in the future. Everything will be available to everyone, for a price obviously, but that is cheap already.

From the people having pre-ordered - or own - a Pocket around me I see 2 distinctive age groups: A) younger people, or younger professionals (meaning, being older in age, but started working in the "industry" near their 30s) that for the very first time in their lives can play with a "man's" video file (raw or 10bit pro res), and these guys started with an a6xxx camera, or A7xx if they had the money, so the shortcomings of the Pocket is nothing, compared to the limitations of the first Sony (external battery, no touch screens, very dim monitor output, e.t.c) and they already have the means to power the Pocket (usually F batteries, power banks). B) older professionals that already own a camera, or searching for a specialized camera that can offer them something special (a smaller B cam, a crash cam, a specialized raw cam, e.t.c). Having the Resolve license is great for the office also. Among those 2 groups, the A is the majority in my social and professional circle. You just can not believe how many people are gaining money with an a6300 and a 18-105, a P4K with the 18-35mm is like a spaceship to them!

My completely unscientific method shows me that this camera must have worked for 600 days. I have seen FS7 AND FS7ii that some times stuck, and we have to remove the battery for a hard reset, but otherwise are workhorse cameras very well regarded in the industry. Hot pixels would be my main issue also. Look at the camera (if everything is alright from the outside, it may have been treated well), and do some tests and continuous recording.

Nano is the latest and most fast focusing also. That is why I bought a new 18-135 nano to use with various Canons I work from time to time.
-
@Django I am too, a sucker for Canon, that is why I am dissapointed. C100mkII is my most used camera, perfectly fine for most projects. That is why I said "C200 is a glorified C100mkII", because for the dozen projects we used the C200, a C100mkII could be sufficient ,100%. I live in EU and the price on the official retailer here is 8170€ (I missed a price cut, sorry). It seems from your choices you are willing to miss some - important - things to go Canon, just in 2019/2020 I am not!
-
a 5" monitor for 25% less! They are very persistent, maybe in 5 years we all buy Z cameras, and why not! Chinese are very successful lately, they just have to up their game in quality control and it is game over!
-
Obviously, I am not talking about everyone. For my very low budgeted jobs (corporate, internet) almost any modern camera is perfectly fine. For such jobs usually there is very limited time for post anyway. A 9000€ camera is overkill, raw is not an option. I wanted to love the C200, but I can't. Too many limitations in every possible way. Even the way you have to put everything together to go to work is worst than other cameras (including C100mkII). To put it as it is and ready to work you need a huge camera bag (in height), in EVA and other cameras there is a hot/cold shoe connection while Canon insists with extra external cables. It is a bit heavier than other competitors, and the touch screen de-stabilizes/moves the camera when on a tripod (while working, and if using the touch focus, is even worst than it sounds). Also, for some reason, I have the impression that eats batteries more than other C cameras, but this is not based in scientific facts, I just have the impression that I change batteries more often per working day. Great camera, but if I had the budget, professional speciality (my main budget goes to sound) and the will, I would choose between the Eva, Ursa mini pro, or stretch to the FS7mkII (it is only 1000€ more expensive than the C200 here). Do you own the camera, by the way?

I am the Greek, he is the Portuguese, similar in temperament, different in drinks!

Didn't you just buy the X-T3?!! I was reffering to the Pocket's monitor as an inbuild camera monitor. It is the biggest one existed on a camera. I like tilt mechanisms my self, not fully articulating screens, but In my country, the difference between GH5S and P4K is exactly 1000$, which is almost another P4K (minus the Resolve license!). If you care for video AF you should look elsewhere (like, Canon/Nikon/Sony elsewhere). If I remember correctly you do very small movies, so you may benefited from raw more than most in here. I decided long time ago that 120frames are not even in my top 8 characteristics of a camera, it may be important for you.
-
The 512GB is 545, that means 775$ off the original price!!??!! CF are still crazy expensive though, and the brilliant choice of BM to support USB-C recording will help a lot of people to test some kind of raw for cheap. This camera just offers too much value for the money. I am wondering how many they have sold already, and how many they have on order status.

Coming from unlimited 3" camera monitors (sorry to assume things for you, but this is my educated guess), you will be amazed of how wonderful a 5" monitor look at the back of a "small" camera. It is just an experience of a different level. The brightness is on par, or brighter, than most of the cameras in the market. I am not sure which ? is brighter than this, certainly not A7 and a6xxx cameras and older Fuji's. The User Interface (and GUI) also is realistically the best in business right now, coupled with the huge screen, is a breeze to use. I do not like the buttons and wheels. Feel cheap, and probably are. I prefer the Z's form factor for a dedicated video camera, or even better an XC15's form factor, but everything else favors the Pocket.
-
Because no one - I know - shoot raw in TV, at least not in my country. The market is dominated by Sony FS7ii cameras, and people shooting Canon C choose the C300mkII. EVA and Ursa mini pro make a dent in the market also, while a few years ago the C100 and original C300 dominated the market. Canon needs to re-position in the market, soon. I have to admit that I am still waiting for my next Canon, and I am being dissapointed for every release I - they - miss. I was waiting for a pro M camera, a full frame mirrorless, a C100mkIII, and they failed miserably in all of them. The problem with this cam is that is very expensive for people like you, and very limited - for the money - for people like me. The ommision of that middle codec is biting the sales of this camera hard. @Oliver Daniel's post was really spot on. I am not sure a C200 is going to be a much better tool than the P4K for your projects. With a couple or 3 weeks rent for the C200, you can probably buy the pocket outright! And when Braw comes, it is going to be hard to resist that. I wish you finish your film and your projects soon.
-
You haven't seen the camera, not even on a printed ad, if you love it so much why you do not own it? Only this year I have worked in more than 120 TV episodes in various programs, guess what, we couldn't use the C200 because it isn't broadcast ready. Maybe it is more suited for event videography than you think.
-
Have you ever used the camera? I have, and my opinion is that is a glorified C100mkIII camera. Note the III, and not the II. Quite honestly, all the times we rented it, was because now you rent it with similar money to the C10mkII, and the II has a very bad monitor included. All the people I know that owns the camera have never shoot raw, they do not even own any CF cards. All of them. If you want a cheap Canon C camera that shoots 4K, where do you go? To the C200, which is not cheap at all. My opinion is based in real market experiences and not hypothetical-forum-fairy tales. Especially after the recent releases (and cheap raw cameras and recorders), C200 is the oddest of the oddballs, and quite overpriced too.

Just to put some things in perspective. P4K can be used for professionsl work, as it is, and I did. A very demanding 1 day shooting with random Canon batteries (non original), SD card and whatever lenses we had (m43/EF metabones). No problem at all. The monitor is the biggest one ever existed, not even some dedicated video cameras have such a good monitor. I doubt the C200 monitor is any better, and that is a 9000euros camera. People are using terrible NON touch monitors on Sony cameras still, and most 3" cameras in the market are much worst.this is a huge leap ahead. Personally, I bought a SmallHD Focus a year ago, but I had it on one of my other cameras that day. I missed a tilting mechanism at some points (very low angles when on a gimbal). Again, the battery isn't worst than any Sony camera we have used in the past, and Sony were top sellers in mirrorless. There is no camera with better in-camera sound than a dedicated microphone can provide, and this BM has a mini xlr, which no one else offers anyway. This camera offers RAW, but all flavors of prores also. When you buy the Z, you can not use it out of the box, when you buy the Pocket, quite literally you can (if you count the SD card that includes, you do not even need any additional media ?). That is the truth.
-
That is exactly the problem with that cam. It is way overpriced for a glorified C100mkIII.

Bravo @anonim This is one of the most imaginative and influential little video I have ever seen on this forum. This exhibits a distinct quality that most people tend to forget, education/love for the arts. When 95% of the video makers look at specs and price to justify their creation, some others go to museums and read books! The artistic value of each shows..
-
One can argue that P4K can be bought from anywhere in the world (at least order it for when available), BM has official distributors in almost every country in the world, it is almost half the price (including one of the top 3 editing and post processing suite in the world) and can be used right away (it includes the battery, a 5" screen, which is the greatest ever on a small camera), while the Z can NOT be used straight away. Also, the Prores and raw options of the P4K are a complete package. Where exactly the Z is dominating over the Pocket4K, and makes us forget all the shortcomings?
-
The features, form factor and price are right. The main issue is the support, especially servicing of the cameras. It is very difficult for most pros to invest on something with no reviews, and limited knowledge of its durability and build quality. If it was just a hobby- and I had plenty of money to burn, I may be interested in one of their cameras, to put it above my fire place. For now, any of the other options, will do just fine.
-
..and the difference is you are never going to deliver a camera (except maybe a pin hole one), so you are a criminal, while the good Chinese people of Z have sold thousands of cameras, and they are probably going to sell more, which does make them camera manufacturers, which is completely different than being a con man, promising cameras with the names of famous Hollywood directors and producers that will never deliver.
-
Is this your video? What are the technical specs? What codec/lenses/post?
-
Merry Christmas and a happy new sensor to you all. Health and hapiness to you and your families!
-
@Zak Forsman +1 for the Kensigton track ball! What a revelation. After this "honest" review, I see a bigger gimbal as more appropriate for the P4K. Ronin S should be ok.

To listen to the action. It is very difficult to follow what is going on with only looking at the monitors. TV episodic series are told a story (especially like ours which is comedy), it is more like radio than cinema! By the way, because he is one of the best in the country with 35+ years of experience, he has the best "ear" as well!
