It is lame, if "lame" is still a word. First time seeing something like this. The crop in 120/100fps is lame too. I am waiting eagerly for some words about the camera. Tell us!

Just my opinion about focal lengths, in APS-C sensors I consider the 16mm as a must (18mm translates to 28-30mm). Wide enough for wide shots, and tele enough for short portraits (77-80mm is close enough to classic 85mm prime lenses). The 18-55 is 2.8-4f and the 16-55 has no IS. This is a huge disadvantage of the whole system, no real workhorse. I consider my NX 16-50 S 2-2.8f with the very good IS as a much better and versatile solution. The upcoming 16-80mm 4f is maybe the solution but we have to wait and see. If it was 2.8f it would be a must buy.

What about Samsung S9+??!! It is 6.2" and when I connect it with my USB C monitor it shows image alright. That would be amazing, and personally more useful than carrying a tablet around, plus the Samsung has class leading OLED screen with highest output in nits currently.

LukiLink project turns smartphones into an HDMI monitor

..since I received it, it stays as a glorious paper weight on my left upper shelve! I didn't manage to make it work. I will try again some other time I guess, maybe the apps will improve in time and solve the compability issues. Some say that the included cable is not working and have better luck with Samsung and branded ones. There are a few people that say it works, but not as glorious as was described, it is not working for iOS, some people still haven't received it yet, and the "developing" team say that they will offer a specialized - and smaller - iOS version in December. So far it is a total mess, and it is bigger than we/I was expecting it to be, but it could be useful if was working properly, but it is not. -
For the first part I mentioned earlier that I envy the B&H customers that eventually will get it for 699$, so I covered that approach! Secondly, there is so much time that you have to issue bugs on cameras. I know about software, I have a degree on multimedia and programming and was thought various computer languages since my high school years (to access University here I had to write special exams in essay, maths and Cobol language!), but some things like cameras, cars, e.t.c have to work properly from day one, or two, and these people are fixing it still at the end of its life. What that says to me? 1) Not a big engineering team 2) Not a sufficient critical mass of users that can identify issues early on 3) it took them 3 years, to fix audio sync issues on 4K 24fps (how basic is this?) and a shutter setting reset (again) and other minor bug issues which are excusable I guess. "- 4K 24fps audio sync bug fix. - Shutter setting reset bug fix. - Revised ZLog with LUT. - Minor bug fixes." I am excited about all the players, and I expect big leaps from small manufacturers, but we - and them - have to identify serious issues they have in their product chain, or else they won't survive. One of the advantages of P4K is the price, if you exclude the price of Resolve, it costs half what the EZ costs, and then the GH5S costs only a little more, and X-T3 costs a lot less, and full frame cameras cost the same. You see how this camera can squeezed among all these options and sold for 699$ in 2020, and at 2022 they will fix sync issues in 4K??!!

Ok, I shop half cage, partial sunhood, SSD holder, custom USB C cable and that simple F plate. Now I need a camera to fit all these! What do you think will be the waiting period if someone pre-orders now?!
-
It is impressive that they have all these options. Maybe the camera widens significantly with this solution though, and even if you put an angled connection, that makes the grip to widen even more. I noticed there is a basic plate for an F battery, and an SSD attachment on the monitor hood, with the half cage it could be enough to have a very workable and minimalistic solution. Those Tilta options seem like the best right now, and very well thought, maybe they pre-ordered first! There is a lot of support on this camera. Certainly more than the EZ one!
-
As you can see, they are still fixing bugs!

This EXPro reminds me the ones we were using with Sony cameras. I am not sure if they are exactly the same brand, or re-branded, but they were very unreliable, going from 3 dots to no battery, and after a year or so, they started acting up, loosing more power quickly e.t.c I wouldn't trust them much. I hated they Sony cameras we were using (I was working for that company until recently), and those power banks were part of the problem too. Heavy as well.
-
Very interesting and holistic approach, but if they block the audio inputs, then they negate one very important advantage (for me).
-
Is it shipping already? I didn't know that. What I meant was this doesn't interest a lot of people, so its existence is almost irrelevant to our reality. Fumes.

P4K has a full HDMI I believe. I would get internal ND above everything. If the Pro set is very pro, then they would look for a more appropriate camera, like the Ursa mini pro/EVA/FS7 e.t.c Here we are talking about a camera to replace workhorse cameras in the middle, like the C100, FS5 the JVC LS300 even.
-
My SmallHD Focus can power cameras with dummy batteries, using NP-F batteries, which I have quite a few already to power my sound equipment and lights and it could be great to have to deal with only a couple of power options, instead of more.

I essentially agree with all of you. DJI has no competition, they should easily hold back on everything. My hesitation is purely from a professional's purchasing approach. My facts are: 1) the form factor is ideal for small teams 1-3 persons with multiple jobs to do on the field. 2) old Mavic was usable just as a necessity. Really unusable from a more realistic approach and I struggled to use it on some projects. For more serious budgeted corporate works we were hiring a pilot with their Phantom/Inspire. In todays market, most clients expect you to own a drone, they want to see something in the air, do not know anything about codecs and limitations in post processing and artifacts and high iso e.t.c 3) I am not, and won't be a pro drone pilot. 4) the low budget jobs that require a few shots are not going to budget a pilot with a drone, that is why I need something relatively "cheap" but usable. As Andrew mentioned, maybe the Zoom is a more straightforward option than the 2. It is 250€ cheaper - better ROI - has the zoom lens, which honestly, is quite intriguing and the image is quite similar to the bigger one (I have to check more videos for that). Another option would be to go ultra small and go with the Air, for those - plenty - lonely endeavors! Get my 3-4 shots I need, and have a better ReturnOfInvestment. A 3rd option is to bite the bullet and go bigger, with the well priced right now Phantom with the remote controller/monitor 1000nits (that is something too), or even a used Inspire (can fit on a - not that bigger than the Phantom - case). Those are some thoughts I am having. Mavic is the most interesting line of drones, with the wider appeal, I believe, just not 100% sure it is for me. I will be starting my youtube research for the other drones to see if they are more appealing to me. I do not like (or it is not financially viable) to change equipment every year or two so I have to take a decision that can take me to 2022 at least.

This is exactly what I mean, but in the opposite. You were expecting everyone to admire your very shallow DoF (why?), while now everyone, and their mobile phones, trying to mimic that technique because it seems "more professional". I guess (no offense) you are an example of what I described above. You probably started working at, or just after the 5DmkII "revolution". It is just a tool, and a technique.
-
I agree, but this seems a necessity of the 5DmkII generation, young people (back then) that learned to shoot with that camera and they needed the slightest focus points possible, just because they could. I still see a lot of people that their videos consist 50-80% (in duration) of out of focus shots. More experienced or advanced filmakers just use that as a an artistic and expressionistic tool, because they know better..

Nice idea, good for some uses, but a small or medium NP-F is a lot lighter and smaller I guess, and their plates just miniscule. IDX have a series with a tap and a USB out also that run from 99$, that I am eyeing, and power also my monitors and sound recorders. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1420284-REG/idx_system_technology_sl_f50_l_series_batteries_high.html

I watched a little bit of that Pascal guy and all I saw were drone clips. I did my research online for some time now and I was expecting more from an 1" sensor with 10 bit capabilities. There is no need to go further with it. If I am spending 2000euros on a drone, I want it to please me and match my workflow. Old Mavic was a disaster in IQ, this one isn't that much better, a little bit sharper, less artifacts, a bit better color science, but it crops in some modes, no 4K/60frames, I saw some log files with no straight horizons e.t.c and I repeat, it reaches 2000€ with the fly more pack. This is not a bargain when I can get a much better image with the Pro v2.0, and the remote/monitor for the same money, better stabilization on air, more flying time e.t.c From things I saw even the Air was competitive in IQ (a lot better than Mavic 1 certainly). I wanted a Mavic with Phantom IQ, and I realized that it is not that.
-
These videos are drone footage - only. My issue with Mavic is when cutting with other cameras. Usually I use just a few drone shots per project, something like 5-10%. I was expecting more from a 1" sensor and 10bit H265 files, I may have to re-arrange my plans accordingly and that obviously is a personal choice. I love the form factor, but I am really seen small differences between 1 and 2.
-
The Mavic series is advertised as a very convenient way to get great images SOC. The first 1 is just terrible, almost non usable in my opinion, the problem is that 2 doesn't seem that much better, and it is a lot more expensive. If the image is not there, then it isn't. Is it better than the Mavic 1? Certainly. Is the Phantom 4 Pro better in IQ? Definitely, and it shows a lot while 4K/60f is becoming the standard. The Mavic Pro 2 with the fly more bundle is as expensive is the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 that includes the 5.5" 1000nits monitor/remote control!
-
I watched a lot of videos online and it seems like the 2 pro isn't as great as we all wished it to be. It seems like for a portion of the money, the Air is the most portable solution, and the cheaper 1" Phantom has much better IQ. I am not so excited anymore. It is a better Mavic, but not that great in general, and Mavic's IQ was terrible, to start with.

Seriously, I have set my heart to the P4K for my next buy, but I worry that until then there will be 3-4 new cameras that will do the same, and more! What small camera under 2000euros can do in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was just unimaginable a few years ago. Yes, Canon 5Dii revolution happened, but right now we live on a sound and sight revolution happening on a much bigger scale that start from a few hundreds€ phones, goes to 1 thousand and a few hundreds € for raw cameras (!), and we have all the other ultra cheap accessories (drone, wireless follow focus, monitors, Edelkrones and what not), that make incredible content a possibility for everyone. Interesting times. I miss the seriousness and discipline of the past, but I love going to shoot something with only a ?!!

I sometimes rig up even my NX500 with a riser, external monitor, rails, matte box e.t.c Haven't used any hybrid/dSLR that its monitor is sufficient for our Mediterranean weather, and all are a lot less than 5". A few days ago I had to use an a6500 (on a Crane 2) and a7sii in 4K/Slog3 on a ancient Greek theater under the worst scorching sun. Is the P4K that terrible (genuine question)? Most best selling cameras have terrible battery life. Fuji is traditionally terrible, and Sony (best selling APS-C and full frame mirrorless) until the A9 and A7iii have/had laughable - or tragic - battery life, at best. Also, noone other camera can record on a USB-C drive flavors of raw. How that is a minus in any imaginable way?! A lot of cameras have QC issues at first (plenty of examples from all brands, including Nikon, Sony, Olympus, we all remember one or two per brand), if the battery door is the only problem they have, and for 1% or less, then it is great news! In anycase, I never pre-ordering anything. The most stupid issue with this camera (which I do not care, because I won't use it anyway) is the huge crop for high speed recording. Just stupid. I would love such a camera with an improved XC15 form factor and ergonomics. It is just too wide for no particular reason. I am going to buy a camera for video use between February and April 2019. As it is, P4K is my best bet.

These are the comments I am expecting to see here. Really helpful, thanks. The non-in camera corrections is a significant issue, as the camera seems less and less appropriate for run n gun. If you have to correct everything in post, this increases the post time significantly. I am wondering if it is going to be fixed by a firmware update (supporting at least a few popular zoom lenses, like the Olympus 12-100mm I was considering), but it may not be possible at all (noone will give them the rights to do so). Speedboosting a FF or APS-C lens should yield better results I guess. Does IS/OIS works with this camera? Why the monitor is unworkable outside? Is it too dim? I can only work with my Focus anyway, so it won't surprise me.
