..sans the mirror!
-
Yes, it does! It seriously changes everything(!) but Arikhan asked from us to wait until April the 1st. It's just a week away, let's keep it low for a little while and we will find out soon. I do not have a clue what's what, but there is no way to be anything similar to what a mini Ursa Pro offers, or a C200, (workflow, ease of use, sound, frame rates, corporate support etc.), so whatever it is, is going to be an extra, and we do love extras! 7 days countdown starts, now!
-
When the time arrives, I would suggest @Arikhan and/or @Matthew Hartman to make a new thread on the dedicated sub forum (NX1/NX500 hack) where is dedicated to the NX community, and a lot of magic happened there already! edit: really weird when full grown men pushing a student for "proof" of his pet project. Let him breath!
-
It is unfair that most of the people demand "proof" or otherwise, do not belong in the NX community (e.g do not own an NX camera). I would take their posts with tons of grain of salt. The NX community has taken a different and less mainstream turn through the "hardship" years. We do not care for "fast results, fast", we can wait for another week, that the poor guy asked to prepare his whole concept. Certainly @Arikhan, and whoever, do not owe us a thing, and that's it. He could just as easily never said a word, and experiment on his own and with his closest friends Whatever he achieves, even the slightest improvement, would be a huge win, or not. That doesn't changes a thing for me and a few others.

As I have 4 NX cameras and a set of native NX lenses, I thought I could chime in to express my views. The system has served me well for many years (I started with an NX300 as my everyday-hobby camera), and I did use it as my professional entry level system (something I could never anticipate when I was buying the NX300, mainly for its 30mm 2f pancake, the "cheap" 12-24, the modern retro brown beauty of that camera, and a way to adapt my dozens of legacy lenses, just for fun). The system still is sufficient for most of my hybrid needs, the 3 different form factors I have (APS-C pro mirrorless, which only Fuji has at the moment, entry level crash/family cam, and the unique NX500, a must have for anyone interested on the NX system) and that says a lot about something completely abandoned for at least a couple of years. The hack/mod scene gave it a breath of fresh air, and while people were changing systems, bodies (many extra batteries!), and mounts, we were experimenting with maximum bitrates on our modern H265 codec and had the pleasure to use one of the best zoom lenses ever made (S), a native brilliant fish eye (you have to go to m43 system for a native mirrorless fish eye lens), and all the other beauties and rarities (45mm, so good, so cheap!). Whatever @Arikhan does, it doesn't matter to me. If it does anything at all, that would be great, and revive the interest and optimism about our (mine) cameras, probably give it another couple of years of self life. If it is just a joke (I always had the impression of a more mature person than his age would suggest, more mature than most of us, "old timers" here!), then never mind, I already got more than I have bargained for! These cameras are offering excitement, even so many years after their release, while people have already forgotten/get rid of, cameras they bought last year! That is really something.

Flip, I am trying not to reply to your comments, but you seriously have to "moderate" yourself. This is a community, and we do not need white noise and unrelated drama. You say I "stalk" you, while I am signed in here almost a year before you do, and similar in DPR as well! Secondly, ignore lists exist for annoying people that do not offer anything to the community, you already have "dominated" DPR with silly threads every week (you must have put a "a6300 vs NX1" and "low light performance of the X camera" dozens of time, until I put you in the ignore list, and I can't see anything you post, and I am avoiding your threads whatsoever), everyone participating there knows that and that is why they upvote when I call you to behave yourself, all the rest are just a crazy person's talk, I can't just seriously take any offense from them, because they are so out of the reality, that my mind just ignores them, and simultaneously feel a little sad that there are people talking crazy on "reputable" forums. You already have started to post threads such "EM10 microphone, hack request", "25600 ISO, hack request", showing lack of respect for the true hack/mod scene, and lack of any intelligence whatsoever. I have seen what you did on the DPR forum (you seriously single-handily destroyed the experience for most of us) and I wouldn't like to see the same happen here. Just moderate yourself, like you do in real life (I hope). There is no discussion, please do not respond, and take some time to reflect about your digital life. Take care, and relax, read what people have to offer here, and participate if you need or want, just do not try to dominate the forum, and do not make a thread of whatever comes into your mind, think about it first, or do a search to find out if there is a solution.
-
Dude, get a grip, don't flame this forum like you do on DPR. Why to push to 25600 when even the 6400ISO in NX1 is really bad, and you do not even own a NX1, why you care? Also, if you'd like to see more hacks, you can start reading, or pay someone to do as you ask.

This guy certainly has a type, these girls look similar! Leaving Sony playing alone in the full frame mirrorless segment definitely hurt Canonikon more than they have anticipated. At least they are reacting right now, but Canon has already a mirrorless line up, with a few lenses (7! mostly kit zooms) and a few bodies that can play the entry to mid level game, Nikon is so far away right now, and Sony is so close! I want to see more pro APS-C bodies in the market, the full frame obsession doesn't mean anything to me.
-
Good to hear! How much continuous video in 1080 and 4K the Sony can record? Battery life seems great too, nothing like mkII bodies used to be.
-
What the "Temp set to High" means? what is the "High" value? 99 degrees C? what other options do they have? Half an hour on 4K continuous recording is fine I guess, this is not a video camera, it is just a hybrid. Do not forget that Panasonic made the GH5 cameras bigger than full frame dSLRs to accommodate bigger heat sinks and whatnot. If you want a video camera on a hybrid body, then the Panasonic's will be the top choices for the foreseeable future.

DPR is a massive forum (for the masses), it doesn't really have the sense of a community.

The NX1 announcement won't in anyway compete with a full on cine camera. I do not know what wizardry Arikhan will brought in, but it won't be the same as having a dedicated cine camera able to record in multiple formats, ND filters, or the bell and whistles of a proper cine-ergonomics, and all. Kinefity's sound great, but we don't see enough, here in Europe. UMP and EVA would be safest bets for sure, and especially the EVA has a great price tag and 5.7K raw on a week, or two.

synonymous !! both Greek words, the second means 1. having the same meaning as another word or phrase in the same language. 2. closely associated with or suggestive of something. synchronous means 1. occurring at the same time; coinciding in time; contemporaneous;simultaneous. 2. going on at the same rate and exactly together; recurring together.
-
Why to do that and limit my own options? I should have done the same with my NX cameras because Samsung abandoned us without any excuse, but C100/C300 and NX cameras are my most used cameras, favorite, and the tools I use the most. So it happens that Canon also make great tools, that's why people still buying their products. I wouldn't buy the M50, or the 4000D (which is an even worst deal, with only a couple of hundreds less than the M50!) for that matter, but maybe next year a Canon can fit my needs. I am brand agnostic, whatever works really.

Flip was number 1! Still very happy can't see his unlimited and unrelated topics on the other forum! Welcome, by the way!
-
3 people are in my "ignore list" in all the forums I participate, ever. I believe you are one of them! I can't remember why (!) but I am sure it had something to do with you hating the NX system for no particular reason!

Here the post union is really really strong, and really really expensive/slow, with rude employees! Terrible.. We hardly can sell anything on ebay, because the postal costs are unbelievable. Audix/Neumann 18X or go to Shoeps/Sennheiser? I have to think about it...
-
Do we even have any mods here?! How many mics do you have now @IronFilm ? I have a sad story to share. This summer my friend from Canada visited me, and I gave him my Audix, so he could record some instruments he wanted for his band. He sent it back in December by mail, and the mail got lost!!! I am in the terrible position to have only the Oktava as an interior mic, and it isn't as good as the Audix was (not even close). Instead of paying another 600€ (1100NZ$) I am consider getting the Sennheiser MKH 50 which costs the crazy amount of 1500€ (2700NZ$!!) but I could use it outdoors as well (when I have to boom a group of people) with the appropriate blimp (which I own anyway). I love this mic, even though its 300-400€ more expensive than the Schoeps, the durability and utility of it is unparalled in the industry. Oh!blame the Greek post!

I know, and Sonosax a whole hardware module!

The least NX500 cost in Europe was 500euros (not $, euros), I know because I was searching for weeks to find the best deal for some friends. Finally we found a couple of the last ones on a German shop (one of the big ones, yellow black colors, do not remember right now). The biggest discount in NX happened in Australia, Switzerland and Turkey, but for various reasons the German store was a better option for a European customer (and Switzerland is very expensive to travel there from Southern Europe, just to grab a camera). In brick and mortar shops, people could find great deals until early 2017, but you had to be very lucky, being in the right place the right time, and ask persistently! The last camera Samsung officially imported in my country was the NX300, so, no such luck here. A came across a couple of offerings in Sweden (used, in local press) for NX1 cameras, but there weren't that many, and even though I asked my friends in Sweden to ask about them, the whole procedure was too much for me to care more. Of course I have 2 NX1, 1 NX500 and a NX3000, so I wasn't desperate for another NX1.

Speculation is nice, and good, but just let the guy breath for 10 more days, and we will find out soon. Clearly he wants to be 100% sure and ready before his announcement. But let's speculate a little bit more! There must be a flex cable somewhere in there, transfering data, if one can find where it is, then it has a way to "take" the data, and act accordingly. One can even put a microphone from a flex cable. @Arikhan congratulations for your discipline as a student and as a person, amazing that you were working "secretely" on a project such this. Way more mature than your age indicates (I have that impression from previous conversations we had on this forum).

All are products, market fragmentation is a concept very well documanted and applies to everything capitalistic in nature. Cameras are products, this is well on-topic. Of course I respect Panasonic's attitude more.
-
Market fragmentation is a very well documented concept, it applies to everything humam created, from shaving razors to spaceships. Obviously there are small compact cars with basic safety tech that cost 10.000$€£ and Volvo's (admittedly the safest cars, they even have a pedestrian air bag!) that start from 30.000$€£. Most of the modern safety features (except the aforementioned airbag) are just software implemented or having 1-2 sensors. Total real cost could be 10$ per car, but as an extra, each one costs from hundrends to the thousands. I do not see anything weird here, only that Japanese can be very honest on their interviews, unlike western executives that always say what you want to hear, or what they want you to hear!
-
Whatever it is, and whatever it does, it is exciting, and this camera has offered us plenty the last few years! 3 years after deciding against the GH4 and going with the NX1, I see now that that was a trip worth taken. I seriously do not know one person staying in one system since abandoned NX.

In the recent C200 vs EVA shootout Logan stated it clearly, and everyone agreed. "Maths do not lie". Raw>10bit>8bit. If one wants an archive of videos, raw is their best bet. I would never base my workflow in future AI decisions. This is the religious equivalent of Science, being our Lord and Savior! You can not plan in technology that hasn't been invented yet. VR will be great, can't wait for a worthy small-ish camera to play with (which doesn't exist at the moment), and I am planning to buy sound equipment for pro VR sound (Sennheiser Ambeo together with a Sound Devices) this year or the next, but I do not see 2D video going extinct for at least another hundrend years, if ever; here is a lot of convinience in the 2D world.
