  1. Did you get the Ursa already? It seems that this camera is a direct competitor to the BMUMP, and its total cost is a bit smaller for lower end stuff (all the UMP raw options are great, but for most people and most uses, just 10bit is enough, and a whole EVA rig can be a lot cheaper).
  2. Gimbals are tools. I do not particular "love" gimbals, or drones, or IBIS, but in the right moment they add to production values and to the moving images language. I would say that no more than 5-10%(at the most) are anything other than tripod and monopod shots, in most the shots I can influence. Disclaimer: recently directors "order" the use of IBIS at 100% rate, 50% drones usage, and less of gimbals (because drones and IBIS are cheap, but we usually rent Ronin gimbals, and it costs money and time to setup, and they hate those kind of needs!). None 1 of those people are worth anything other than our pity, but they are been paid 10 times, or more than me!
  3. Whatever Andrew said, but I should add that there must be a Nikon mirrorless on its way (rumors and patents say that it will be a new modern mount, but older lenses will work perfectly with a Nikon adapter). Wait for a little bit longer I say.
  4. Check at the A7iii thread, there is a bunch of complaints already. Most of the things you mention are relative to the A7ii, which wasn't a great camera by any means (I hated it!). The color science is dissapointing again, and even though they improved most things, they still are far behind in touch screen implementation, screens, menu system and ergonomics. Also, native zoom lenses are double the price of Canonikon (without being two times better, actually they are not even slightly better!) and we are not sure about the AF of non Sony lenses), and it is a full frame camera, some people do not like the size/weight/price of glass, or image aesthitics/too much depth of field etc Certainly is the best Sony ever - for the price - but except high ISO performance (I never shoot more than 1600, but I would like to be able to, another stop or two) and IBIS (I seriously do not like using it on the GH5) what is better than the NX1? In my case, no reason to rush things. I feel that Canon or Nikon will finally do it.
  5. I am talking specifically about this market, which is quite limited, so we know most things about most things. GH2 "revolution" never happened here. People started caring about Panasonic with the GH4 and on, and there wasn't any mainstream music video clip happened in the GH4 that I know. A lot of people still use Canon 5D iii AND ii, Canon and Sony are huge here. Alexa is a tier of its own, Red is supposedly under Alexa, and it seems to be hurt by these newer cheaper cameras. The above are relevant to this specific market.
  6. This is the good ol' rumor. What amazes me, and it is rather significant, is that the rumor is still circulating by many, and different sources, and despite the unbelievable specs, people accept that an NX2 could make them happen. That is how strong an impression the NX1 made in the industry and the initiated.
  7. I mean, "instead of Red and top Sony and Canon cine cameras". I don't mean in general, specifically in the video clip industry here. Ursa mini pro took the place of Red cameras too. Alexa's remain untouched by the trends.
  8. I would dig such a little project (and dead easy for sure!). 100$ OLED and 5.5" sounds amazing! I would care for the 4" as well, as a cheap solution. 3.5" is too close to camera's monitor, 4" is quite further away, my Focus is 5" and I wish it was 5.5"!! We 3 are based in Europe @BTM_Pix in UK, @flip21 in Portugal and me in Greece. The logistics are weird, but not impossible!
  9. @andrgl how?! Do you mean, by the raw files?
  10. There is also an 4" IPS one https://m.ebay.com/itm/4-TFT-LCD-Touch-Screen-Module-480-320-RGB-Display-Board-For-Raspberry-Pi-3-/142570973012?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20150519202348%26meid%3D6ad43d5a5a3d4a2b894f9c7cc8c298a6%26pid%3D100408%26rk%3D17%26rkt%3D22%26sd%3D162649001803%26itm%3D142570973012&_trksid=p2056116.c100408.m2460 and a higher resolution one https://m.ebay.com/itm/Pimoroni-HyperPixel-3-5-Hi-Res-Display-for-Raspberry-Pi/162649001803 So, all in all, one needs the monitor, a powering source and an HDMI/USB adapters to make a small and inexpensive monitor?
  11. A lot of people I know are in similar situation. Hard to justify the amount of money without a middle codec. Raw is just too specialized for most jobs, and with only 14minutes per CF card, you need a bunch of those, and someone to empty them constantly. I know for sure that people are using GH5's for video clips, when a few years ago it was unheard to use such a cheap camera.
  12. April 1st is calling "fool's day" for a reason! If your system isn't right for you anymore, nothing will change that reality. Only an NX2 and a couple more new lenses, which is not happening.
  13. Is the reveal going to happen at April 1st?!

    monitors

Most of the panels are 8+2(=not real 10bit), even the very expensive ones. https://www.144hzmonitors.com/monitors/lg-32uk950-34wk95u-34gk950g/ you are reffering to these ones. The 5K one is 1499$ pre order in B&H. They are not going to be out until June. TVs have very bad panels (if you consider that this LG is 34" and 1500$, while you can get a 55" 4K TV for 499$!). As I said before, if you have the 1.5K to spend, better invest on the cheapest oled from LG (the 2017 models have exactly the same panels as this year and are 30-40% off) and avoid at all cost the 2018 introductory model (its a downgrade). OLED TVs are at their peak, while PC monitors just getting serious. There are a few good middle solutions, with AV panels mostly (BenQ and others), around 32" and 1440p resolution, that do the job, do not cost a fortune, and will be perfect until the next wave reaches the specs and the price that makes sense. The greatest buy at the moment is this Acer though https://m.newegg.com/products/N82E16824011158
  15. This is interesting, not 4K ofcourse. Do we know the video quality in 1080, and the sound quality (in terms of hardware)? I am wondering if one could open such a camera and make use of the internal cabling for the inbuilt mic..
  16. After watching the shootout and the videos, the EVA grew a few inches in my mind! The C200's benefit is internal raw (but EVA will give a few internal codecs and external raw in a week or two, that was said in the shootout) and most importantly DP touch AF (that is still a strong selling point for Canon). In everything else the EVA seems like a better bet. It even has a programmable 3 positions switch (inside joke for whoever watched the aforementioned video!)!
  17. The Sennheiser 440 is my go to camera mic also!

    NX2 rumors

https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-wants-to-become-sonys-worst-nightmare/ I hoped that was the case in ILC too!
  19. Well, that was interesting indeed! A short recap. Even thought I quote, I probably mis-heard a few words. 1. Some Bruce Logan wisdom first "maths don't lie" raw>10 bit>8bit "You can't re-light in post" and "now I light exactly like film" "Every modern camera is like a different film stock" In short, - Lighting is always about direction, not volume. Tim Smith, Canon senior advisor admitted that for broadcast you have to shoot raw (yes, specs can be a serious thing), and after been pushed a bit, admitted that people should ask for it and Canon read the blogs and reviews (my guess is, they are waiting the C300mkII to die out, and offer that later) and the more people ask for it, the more the possibilities of it happening (it seems that Japan HQ are holding back the whole decission). EVA is sharper than Canon, and more saturated in the highlights (I am not sure if the second one is better or worst, but Logan mentioned it a few times). Logan concluded that the big advantage for Canon is "flesh tones" and Panasonic their highlights (bright, he said) and night shots (dual ISO, they shot in base and 2500 for both cameras, so both base ISO for EVA!). They are all looking forward for HDR, but not for the two extremes but the little details in between. Eva was 2 years in the making. 95% on their polls didn't care for an EVF (or using third party ones). Similar results for Canon, that is why they have two versions (and gimbals, of course). Bruce Logans doesn't care at all about EVFs (I am with him!)! Ergonomics and usability at the top of the list for both manufacturers, and Logan added the workflow, too. There are more videos on line testing the cameras, ISO, rolling shutter e.t.c
  20. There is 1 at 375$ from a reputable member of dpr at the moment i believe flip21 already owns a nx500, so that going to cost him null.

    NX2 rumors

Except if Samsung went f%#& all about everything, and have a cine camera with the guts of an NX2, for 3000$€£ and 265/264/pro res internal and external raw! "Buy this if you want to do cinema, for everything else an S9 will do the job"!(without the exclamation mark, because they will be dead serious about that statement!).
  24. "One of the biggest enigmas surrounding the Fujifilm X-Pro2 is the omission of 4K video. Initially, it seemed that this was to do with not having the necessary heat sink to dissipate the heat produced, like the X-T2 was able to have, and that reasoning made a lot of sense–at least that’s what EIC Chris Gampat was told by Fujifilm’s reps. However, that sort of flew out the window when the smaller X-T20came out and it also had 4K video, again, without the beefy heatsink the X-T2 featured." and later on by Fujifilm Managers Shugo Kiryu and Shusuke Kozaki. "We asked users of the X-Pro 1 if they used it for video and 80% of them said no. By cons, of course, you can make high quality videos FHD with the X-Pro 2. But according to our studies users do not expect 4K feature on the X-Pro 2.Technically, we could add this feature with a firmware update but we do not plan to do so in the future." Go figure..
