@DaveAltizer I wanted to upvote/thanks and ? at the same time! Great and informative video. My experiences with the 12-100 are similar (manual focus though) with the GH5, and surely is one of the most amazing all around lenses on any system. For run n gun, wedding videography, live TV, documentary use, is just excellent. I have read, and see on the internet that the S is improved in color science. What is your opinion about it, and you have both to compare too!

Have you used the C100mkII by any chance? Are the low light capabilities similar (in 1080), what about ISO performance in 4K? I guess the ergonomics are better than the C100. Do you have any advice for 1080 settings, or anything else I should be aware of?
-
Of course not, we are all waiting for the Zacuto shotout! Seriously, the C200 is on no man's land right now. I have a week long shooting with it on a couple of weeks from now, but the lack of a middle codec is huge for me, as shooting raw is like 0,3% of my workflow, and if I need more, we always rent camera/lenses anyway (C300mkII is just excellent for most jobs). I would like to have reliable touch focus in my next video camera, though, there are rumors for "a new C camera, and another videocamera that don't belong to the C line". C100mkIII and C300mkIII are rumored, and I have posted here a patent for an XC type camera, with IL(interchangeable lenses). The oldest C camera is the C100 right now, but it could make sense to see something like a C400, and a lowly XC camera with EF-M mount. The second could be an instant hit (if have touch focus and good old Canon 1080p and some kind of 4K). An XC camera with the 22mm and the 11-22mm could be amazing for most jobs, and of course there is a native adapter as well.

This is an interesting video which is called "Tiny cinema camera kit for under $250" The cheap Fotga's are ok for the price, if you do not go to extremities can hold quite ok (for the price!).

LukiLink project turns smartphones into an HDMI monitor
Kisaha replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Here, in post #10 is the video (3 months ago), the lag makes the whole device unusable https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/220205692/lukilink/posts/2089514 If there is a product (and of course they based their idea on an existing product, no problem with that) working good already, they should have been a little bit more swift! I just hope it's not just a pretty box! -

@BTM_Pix That's perfect. Even the 1080 is acceptable, and 720 is perfect for small phone's screens. The prototype showed a couple of months ago was really laggy (maybe it was an iPhone thing). After so many months, I just hope this product exists! It will bring back trust to crowd funding procedures, as well. -
It seems that SmallHD have discontinued this model, probably to have a new one with the touch screen interface. It is a good price for what it is (and it isn't the SDI version, just HDMI In and Out), when I bought the Focus, that was almost 300euros more, so no comparison. I haven't use this one though, so I can't really tell about the differences. Spec wise, the 501 is 1080 vs 720 for the focus, pixel density 441 vs 294 (PPI) but the Focus is 800nits vs 400, and it is almost half the weight (both pretty big deal, and 720 on 5" is pretty good, alright).

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/220205692/lukilink/posts/2135382 Looks awesome, and it has a charging port, and an additional HDMI-Out. If the lag is manageable, then we have a must buy here (for 1st monitor for amateurs, and second or backup for more serious players). -
Unfortunately not, but I did a lot of debates with Indian friends, and I had a couple of flatmates as well back in the day. We had a lot of respect and a lot of conversations; but I am Greek, and I am influenced by the logic and reasoning of the ancient people living in the same land a few thousand years ago. I hope in the century of fake news and lack of judgement, logic and reasoning are not becoming a lost art. I may have to put that book on my amazon wish list for next time!

First of all, who are the "naysayers"? and who are the "yes men"? Second of all, webrunner5 expressed his opinion, why everyone has to disagree with everyone about everything? Third, a full frame camera, potentially (coming soon-ish) cheaper than all the top models on the market (even m43), fixing most of the Sony's issues, and the such, is a great deal for the market and it will sell a lot. I am not buying one right now, so I wouldn't care less, but this is the truth, plus is the ONLY modern full frame mirrorless that a lot of photography enthusiasts can buy and S35 mode as bonus. The op here asked for a hybrid camera, and the A7iii, at the moment, is probably the best deal around. Above, I posted a Canon patent (seems like the XC10) of a hybrid camera, but with its design dedicated to video first, than photo, and I expressed my desire for such a camera (so, it's not only Sony). Whoever needs 10bit and 4K/60, sure knows where to find it. A7iii is a true hybrid camera (and Sony calls it "entry level"), not a hybrid specialized in video, camera, wait for the A7sIII announcement, and maybe people won't be so forgiving for 3700 euros. Keep in mind the "10bit" and "4K/60p" terms until then. I am not sure if you live in North Korea, or Bhutan, but money can overshadow a lot of things, not only camera specs.

I just wish it's something like this https://www.canonnews.com/first-hint-at-a-hybrid-video-stills-ilc-camera !! EF-M lenses would be absolutely great for the job (keep the EF series for the C line, and the size and weight could be another plus for run and gun, and relatively small camera bags).
-
I agree, for full frame the A7iii is a no-brainer. I wouldn't buy anything cheaper/used, right now. It will be scary when it starts to go down ( a bit at least) in price just before Christmas or so. It would be cheaper than most top m43/APS-C and it can arguably compete with some high priced full frame dSLRs.

OK, I watched on youtube (rather than just "play" the video here), and the guy posted to specifically showcase the moire issues, it's not only me! It is not only the moire, the image in general is terrible in all modes. It could be high ISO performance though, but still I didn't expect that kind of image from that camera. Weird.
-
Of, course I did, but I didn't find the whole concept relevant with reality. Monitors for our job and that size, cost tenths of thousands of dollars. Even the small Sony ones that we mostly use in various editing rooms (NOT 4K, and definitely NOT HDR) are more than 5000 euros, and we can not hang them on the wall either! This is more a luxury and design item, certainly not a reference monitor, but not even a good TV panel (I referenced some above) of today's standards, but the better ones, and probably the worthy ones, - especially for us that really care about image - are even more expensive to be honest (probably the cheap LG OLEDs are the best bet right now, and relatively future proof, as it seems the OLED technology has been slowing down a bit the last few years)! There are a lot better, and cheaper, smaller PC monitors that can do basic jobs right now, especially if color calibrated, and an LG for HDR. I wouldn't expect from a consumer product anything better. @jonpais can show you the way!
-
What monstrosity is this? This image is unusable, e.g that was a groom's shirt, or fashion videography. What is wrong here? Is it only me seeing all these weird colors, artifacts and moire?
-
There is a similar LG OLED that you can hang, and it costs 6500euros here, so maybe the Samsung is a bargain! There are a lot of specialized TV reviewers, this panel is obviously targeting people that care more about the form, than the function, design can be expensive, for non other reason, than to look different, and have something most of your friends can't. So having a 1400$ frame on your wall, is maybe priceless! There are worthy TV sets from Samsung (around that price), but the 2017 LG OLED's have the usual price deduction this time of year (around 1600$? I am not sure about N.American pricing), and there aren't many differences to the 2018 models, so anyone want to grab a bargain, should go for one. The introductory 2018 model especially seems like a downgrade these year (while last year all models had the same panel, and I think processor as well). Sony and Panasonic offer (LG made) OLED panels as well, and they all sell very good. For cheaper TVs, I would say Samsung, for more expensive ones, the LGs are the best value for money right now.

I didn't know where to post this, not worth another thread, but there are a lot of rumors about a XC15/XC20 with an EF mount, this is a very interesting patent here of a hybrid camera, seemingly targeted on video first (that would be a first for a hybrid). https://www.canonnews.com/first-hint-at-a-hybrid-video-stills-ilc-camera While everyone talks about an EF mount, my guess is that it can possibly has an EF-M mount, and that would be very interesting, indeed! I am sure @mercer could appreciate such camera, and probably a lot of buyers world wide.

@Attila Bakos Great insight, a lot of people could find your post very useful. I was considering the monitor/recorder solution for a while now, finally I went with the SmallHD, Focus. The difference in size, and especially weight is making a huge difference for me and the cameras I use most (I never transcode), I do not need the external recording much, while I need monitoring almost always.

Very interesting, and very honest review, from a perspective closer to the Fuji's target group than others. Eterna looks good for sure, it could be right for many people's work flow.

Here, its not even an industry. I know a lot of working professionals (both photo and video), and no one is doing this job. The real estate agents do it on their phones, or have small compacts, and they are fine, you are very lucky having the ability to get something out of it! HMIs would be great, but if you cover the windows with heavy ND filters, even an Aputure LS can be enough to balance things out a bit.

I was in the market for another monitor just before Chrimstmas, same as you, considering 32-34" (still not sold on the ultra wides), but the research had started while back. Finally, I just add a mediocre and dead cheap 27" 1440p with USB-C (so I can connect my laptop) and now I run 2 X 27" 1440p and one 40+ TV for customers, or additional monitor, and I am waiting for the technology to catch up, probably next year. All very good suggestions, but I was thinking that a new monitor in 2018 should be true 10 bit, and 4K, and preferably HDR ready, but unfortunately that is not the case. I will be waiting them out! My next move will be probably an LG OLED in terms of monitoring, and I am following Atomos Sumo as well.

The above video is shot with an 18-36, and in general I am not that impressed by that lens. I used one recently on a speedboosted GH5 and it was ok, but not something that could drag me away from the S. Shooting with a Sony APS-C, I can imagine using the 16-70 or even the cheap 18-105 more. Even for m43, I would prefer the Olympus 12-100 as a workhorse lens. In general, I prefer to shoot native lenses for various reasons anyway. The Sigma is 28mm (equiv.) which a lot less wider than a 24mm lens, and goes up to 55,44 while the NX to 77, a lot more tele, and not that slower than the Sigma (especially in the wider focal lengths). With the S lens, you can have a nice wide shot at 24mm and later on do a double portrait or even a portrait shot (or photo) even if you are not very close, with the Sigma, in reality you are somehow limited. If it was a 16-36 lens, maybe it would be more in favor, as the 2mm are important in APS-C world.

What's your experience with it as a grading monitor? It could be interesting to have as a director's monitor and additional monitor for the editing, but I am reading that this is not true 10 bit and not very accurate.
