@Robin Billingham Good job, and nice song. Well done. P.S a6300+18-105 or anything, with a couple of FD lenses in front.
-
Where is it? I can't even see it!
-
It is not coming for sure. Someone is playing on an R&D lab with one right now, though!

a6300+18-105mm is a very good cheap option if you don't need continuous shooting and you don't mind the terrible ergonomics (A7's ergonomics are terrible too if you consider the much heavier and bigger lenses). The lens is 4f but incredibly stabilized for such a cheap lens, and adequate for most things, being video or photography. a6300 has gone down, since the a6500 release and it will go down further not that A7 mk iii series is coming forward. I believe the ISO performance is even better than the A7, too. Honestly, I wouldn't look at older cameras than that, for some reasons.

@Ty Harper The difference between G3 and higher end stuff is chaotic, and even "range and strength of the actual signal" is 70% of what wireless systems do! The difference in price is chaotic too. @IronFilm What's new with those G4? Did we learn anything new? I am pro Sennheiser in general, but the G3 is a relic from the past, really, and the limitations (and auto nature) of AVX isn't for us. Wisycom would be my choice here in Europe.

RED and Foxconn to create range of affordable 8K prosumer cinema cameras
Kisaha replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
VR needs lots of resolution, today's 4K just isn't enough. VR/360 is a very interesting field that will see a lot of growth in the next couple of years, and another manufacturer in prosumer range will benefit all of us. -
I did a destination one on a Greek island last summer, that the church was on a tiny islet, barely fit the mini-church and the people attending the wedding, while the schedule included Day One: early cocktails on a remote beach - Cruise in the Aegean sea - night party Day two: wedding preparations, a little bit of drink and dance, move to the tiny islet with fast boats, ceremony (under scorching sun, with formal dress and shoes!), move out with speed boats, preparation of dinner and the party (decorations etc), speeches and party until the morning, next day good bye lunch and drinks on a popular beach, then fly to Athens for the next shooting! The video team were 3 people (including me, one person mainly drone). That is why I love my NX setup, I used 3 NX cameras (2xNX1, 1xNX500) I had always one ready with the appropriate lens. I used the 18-200 on the cruise (so not to spoil my S lens, and the 18-200mm range is very useful. Also in daylight the lens is ok-ish and the AF can be Canon DPAF good, I did something like 65% on Auto AF with that lens), the 16-50S as the main workhorse that it is, the 12-24mm for establishing shots mainly of the islands and landmarks, 45mm+30mm portraits and party, and the fish eye for the occasional weird angle. 3-5 batteries total per day (last day not even one), among the 3 cameras (speeches can be very very long though!), a Benro heavy duty monopod and a Manfrotto silly-tiny tripod (together with the NX500+12-24mm perfect combination for the aforementioned establishing shots).

@Andrew Benton This is exactly the argument @Mattias Burling did with the T3i, but on the other way! If one can make a professional videography career out of a T3i (is this the 600?) in 2018, then surely one can make a photography one with the GH5! That noone of these cameras are the appropriate tool for the jobs you have suggested, T3i for video, and GH5 for photography hasn't passed through your minds? In the end, I thought we all here agree that anyone can use whatever for his own pleasure and work. I do not understand what is so bad about a GH5, while a T3i is so special.

As I said, between a Sony APS-C and this, Fuji is many times better, in more ways than one. When the price comes a little bit down (with the grip ofcourse), its not going to be even close. 8bit is not suddenly dead because just one camera offers it in low price. Most people do not even have 10bit workflows, or do not want to spend processing power and data storage for something they do not need. I haven't even delivered, not one job in 4K, a spec that is here longer, and concerns more people (4K TVs from top manufacturers cost around 400euros these days), I wouldn't worry about 10bit and HDR now. But maybe I will next year, and that is why I am not spending empty money on this one. In most aspects, NX1 is clearly better, or at least equal for what I do.

Everything I do is 8bit, but recently producers asked specifically for 10bit. First time they needed 2 "cheap" 10bit options, so we went GH5 with the 12-100 Olympus (I love this lens!), and second time we went Canon C (much bigger documentary production with Zeiss primes). I have the feeling we are going to been asked for 10 bit more, from now on. I, too would like to move to 10 bit, but it's a huge cost to upgrade my whole workflow, but from now on, I will have my mind to this. We'll see.

@IronFilm I am preparing to do some weddings myself this summer, so a SmallHD Focus is a must (and I did!), but I am not sure how you managed with that kind of setup. Weddings here, destination, or not, have a lot of running, from hotels/houses/apartments for the preparation, then the church, then the dinner, then the party, etc All these happen in 10-15 straight, and very stressed hours which we have to run around. Some times the heat is extreme also, too demanding on our bodies and our camera's bodies. Heat dissipation, ergonomics, long recording hours on an SD (H265) card and good battery management, while relatively light are equally important to image quality, and whatever sound you can gather (Tascam DR10s are playing a major role here). You would never cope with a heavier set up here.

Oktava!! I thought he has the 8050 and the Audio Technica for indoors sound. Too pity for the shortcomings, I am sure a software update will do. Also, pre production models, definitely didn't care much about sync sound. I have used the GH5 extensively the last 5-6 months, and truly, I believe the GH5s is a much more appealing camera for my video needs. I am waiting a Canon C100mkIII for a long time now, maybe the GH5s will do (and the C100 will never do 10bit, no frickin' way!). You do the right thing @IronFilm waiting to see the real world cameras first.

@Emanuel Yep, also the girl he was "chasing" for 2 years, she is getting married! I have met a few Chinese students back at Uni, and I did a couple of documentaries with Chinese, They have a different approach than us! Total respect to their attitude and nation. It seems like he has a DJI connection, maybe not employee per se, but definitely he is close to the company. @Robert CollinsI like what he is saying about the Mavic Pro II, too! I hold my horses for a couple of years now. The Mavic Pro form factor is just brilliant, but the camera is not. I hope this year we will have it all. 1" camera and the smaller form factor.

Key Light (Bowens Mount) Less Expensive Than Apurture?
Kisaha replied to Mark Romero 2's topic in Cameras
The mod seems quite straightforward. Take out the old fan(s) put some Nocturnal inside. I am reading similar things for Aputure too. What do you thing about the price of the SBL though? 420euros it is not exactly cheap. Is there any simplier led with Sony F batteries available, or there aren’t any worth of consideration. -
The most interesting tweet was that: OsitaLV @OsitaLV · 7 Φεβ Believe it or not, I've never had any girlfriend. It's weird for a 30-year-old man

Key Light (Bowens Mount) Less Expensive Than Apurture?
Kisaha replied to Mark Romero 2's topic in Cameras
I can only find the SLB60 version in my country, it goes for 420euros. Does it worth it, or should I look elsewhere? I could spend a couple of thousands of euros later on (end of 2018 or early 2019) for a few lights (maybe a couple of Lightstorms, Lupo?) but I would like just 1 key light, before, or at, Eastern. What do you thing? The dedicated battery without the need for V ones is a plus though.. Contains: 1x Godox SLB60W 5500K Led Video light 1x Reflector 1x Remote control 1x Lamp cover 1x Power cord 1x Battery charger -
It's not only GH5, people are forgetting there is also the GH5s option. I would rather go for that right now. Depending of the use of course, but when you do video, for semi pro or pro work, you need a lot of recording time. The bulk of our job is to record something, be it a live performance, a sports performance, reality TV, long documentary takes etc. Even the NX1, a 4 years camera can do 78min continuous take. If I was in the market, and split between the a6500 and this, then definitely this camera wins, I would go for that 11 out of 10, but if anyone wants a workhorse video camera, the GH5 and S are so far ahead that it isn't even close. There is also the option of the A7Sii, it seems it is coming down in price while it will go further down when the III comes. I do not see a lot of people buying this, mostly Fuji users that do a little bit of video, I am not sure how big of a market share that is, maybe something like 0,5% of total ILC sales. The good thing, is that it maybe pushes Sony to make a real PRO APS-C camera.

Your original comment was "I always have a hard time saying a stills camera sucks just because its not the best video camera in the world. If video is that important I use a video dedicated camera." The essence of this, the whole forum here, and posts by @Andrew Reid are exactly about those cameras. I am truly surprised that you haven't noticed that. Mostly we care about video in smaller, relatively cheaper, or not, hybrid cameras - cameras that a big, or even the biggest proportion of its life will shoot video, etc There are unlimited photo-centric forums around, I do post on a couple, because photography is my hobby, but here, I mainly come for the video aspect of things. My comment was sarcastic, because the famous people on the original post of the OP, are using this said camera for video, so it is only fair that we can review the video performance. No one judged anything, but you, the ability of us to use "photo" cameras for video, and review them for the ability, or not, to shoot adequate video for our needs. I do like cameras to be 50/50, that is why I staying NX. I do use dedicated video cameras with bigger projects and I love them, my next buy I want to be one (hopefully a C100mkIII or FS5mklI). Your opinion is well respected and heard all the time, no need for passive-aggressive statements. Peace.
-
@Andrew Reid deep down. we want our Canons back! My first one was an AE-1. @IronFilm that was for E mount. X mount will ship in a couple of months or so.
-
True! I also said that they have "decency"! Fuji is a well respected company with a lot of passionate people working there. I follow them closely and always read interviews and their opinions. They have the will, they just don't have the resources. Unfortunately for Fuji, in this race there are other horses too, and no one will wait for them to reach 2018 specs, a couple of years later. Edit: I would buy this instead of the a6500 any day. That's not even close in my opinion.
-
Who needs an NX2, when Fuji has a new video-centric camera that can do 6 minutes of 100 frames and cropped 4K? And 20 minutes of 1080 video!
-
If the Mavic Pro 2 has an 1" sensor, will be in most people's shopping list.. and a little bit more stability.
-
@Nautical The XH1 announcement is here already. Check I would be waiting for that Canon (or Nikon) announcement for a little while..
-
@arson519 It is the same sensor causing overheating issues on Sony cameras. At least Fuji has the decency to say clear and loud the truth and not just change the overheating warning and call it a software fix. GH5 is much bigger/wider/heavier on a smaller sensor, to achieve continuous video recording and top video specs.
