@Aussie Ash 4K/15m, 1920/20min, 120 or 100p 6minutes. Also I can not see a headphone jack on the camera. That means, like the previous top Fuji camera, the grip is a necessity for most video uses, adding size/weight. Also, the one battery will be problematic. Of course I could be wrong, but this is what I make from that. Sorry, but I can't resist to comment that this try is rather pathetic. Fuji is at least a couple of years behind all the rest. Every manufacturer will have a better video camera soon (or already have).

LukiLink project turns smartphones into an HDMI monitor
Kisaha replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yeah, I won't play that game, to be honest I do not know much about external recorders, and you know that I don't like to speak for things I do not know! I only have used the Black Magic ones and weren't comfortable at all. I do know that you can't go cheap on monitors, mics and tripods! Better use a cheap camera, than a cheap monitor/mic or tripod. Most of the people I know have a bunch of monitors in their closets. Don't add to that pile of garbage! -
..but the aforementioned people are using it for video. Tell Casey that he is a fraud using a photo camera for video then. 6D was an amazing camera back in the day, probably best value for money Canon for a lot of years, latest ones (including the 80) are just a waste of raw materials.

@Trek of Joy I do not disagree, and your point about the Olympics was spot on, and brilliant, but with your last paragraph it seems that you DO underestimate Samsung and their divisions. I'll take fiscal year 2016 (in KRW trillions). Consumer electronics is 45. IT and mobile communications (not just the Galaxy line) 100, which semiconductors is 51-52 and Display panel is 27, and finally device solutions is 78. And that is not the whole company by the way, but anyways. Even taking out the smartphones completely, Samsung is a few times bigger than Sony, not a little bit bigger. Nikon is not for sale (and they would never sold to a Korean company), and Samsung have their own series of small cameras (360/Vr) and millions and millions into their phones, couldn't care less for a lost cause (GoPro). Even Xiaomi (Yi) is bigger than GoPro. I do not believe we will ever see such camera, but my argument was that make one, is nothing for Samsung, not even a drop of water to the Pacific Ocean.

@Trek of Joy This is exactly what we are saying, Samsung needs a prototype camera - or a limited edition one - to show case their sensors. Samsung is one or two new fabs away from making a dent on Sony's sensor sales. Most of Samsung's experimental sensors (I used to follow them) were best in industry, but Samsung had neither the capability to mass produce (even for their phones are buying Sony sensors), or Japanese companies didn't buy from them. Sony's biggest earner is the adoption of 3-5 cameras on each phone (3-5 sensors), biggest buyers were Apple and Xiaomi, with Sony have 42% of the whole sensor industry and in general this (current fiscal year) is the best Sony year since 1998. With all the good ones, I have to add that "Sony has made thousands of job cuts and asset sales, and focused on gaming and image sensors to drive the turnaround of its business after years of losses." 228 billion Yen for sensors. 76 billion Yen from Consumer Electronics, mainly boosted by new 4K TVs. 55 billion Yen in Games and gaming, increase on PS4/PS4pro sales. 244 billion Yen in Films, mainly because of the new Spiderman(?!wtf?!) 94 billion Yen in music, because of Spotify partnership and the game Fate/Grand order (mobile games belong to the Music division for some reason). We are talking about something like 7 billion $. On the other hand, Samsung is the top manufacturer of components, memory chips, smarthphones, television sets, and on a moderate year for them, their fiscal year revenue was 220 billion $, with operating profit 50 billion $. The next fiscal year will see a big growth in both revenue and profit for various reasons (too much to mentioned all of them here!). "In 2018, Samsung will provide 8nm and 11nm processes to meet customers’ needs and start a risk production of 7-nano. In addition, we will increase its mass production capabilities at the new S3 and S4 lines for various products including mobile processors and image sensors." People in general underestimate the power of Samsung. Most of the camera manufacturers (except Canon and Sony) could be plain bought out by Samsung every day of the week, including weekends.

LukiLink project turns smartphones into an HDMI monitor
Kisaha replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
If I was going for a top video recorder, which even the 5" are big (too much depth) and heavy, I would definitely go for a 7" one. The Atomos offer more options, on a bigger monitor, with lower price. If I was going for the most compact, cost effective and light solution, I would go SmallHD Focus, which I did. -

@IronFilm Shogun inferno is 200-250euros less and Ninja is 400-450euros (767NZ$) less. I am not sure about all the specs and everything (I haven't been in the market for an external recorder recently), but that seems like a substantial increase. Sound Devices (and Video Devices) products are very expensive in Europe. BlackMagic offerings are half that money, or even less. -
This is definitely to control heat, and surely to add some minutes of operation ti.e. GH5 is bigger than full frame dSLRs, so to offer continuous video recording and bigh bitrates. We have to change to graphite soon, everything consumes too much energy (thus dissipate too much heat)!

@Trek of Joy So true, great comment. @timmyturntable "glad I bought it, nothing else is worth trading for it yet" class here too... Like @lucabutera said, after the mobile phones exploded in poeple's pockets and coats what happened? Samsung increased its profit in the mobile department! If they offer that spec list (that will never happen, we are just having some fun here) for 3.000$, tell me who isn't going to consider one of those? Instead of the , let's say, the new 90D that barely will have 4K.. Come one, NX1 was an unbelievable machine, in more than one senses (continuous 78 minutes video, for some this is significant), no over heating in the worst conditions (I know!), unbelievable ergonomics (subjective, but not really!), great JPG engine, colors, AWB, DIS and DUAL IS with some lenses, the unique workhorse S lens and dead cheap very sharp pancake primes, etc. What you were buying back in 2014? 16mgpxls GH4, 16m,gpxls Fuji (not even doing any video) 70D, and 7D, and a6000.. Come on people.. All I can say is, glad I bought it, nothing else is trading for it yet, and now I am spending money on other stuff, rather than consider buying my 3rd or 4th camera after I abandoned NX1 (or never bought it!). P.S actually I bought a 3rd and 4th camera. A NX3000, NX500 and another NX1! Guess what, I do 3-4 camera low budget jobs, I give the smaller cameras to all my relatives to take pictures, and everyone is happy (me too!).

@webrunner5 came gunning and firing into 2018! or his 16 years old grand son hacked his account! Some of that is true thought, earlier digital cameras just can't compete in today's world. Of course anyone can use anything, and there is a niche for almost everything in this life (and world), negativity and aggression is not needed on tech forums! The fact is that Fuji has the best APS-C mirrorles lens selection and not much else really, also some glorious holes on that line up for videographers and modern and quick AF. Tere is a lot of work to be done (upgrading, replacing creating some lenses also), and not much of time. The JPG and film simulation excuses are just not enough to take you to the next decade. Most JPG engines are adequate these days (how many amateurs have you heard complaining and comparing JPG? they are just amazed that a non phone can take pictures, most of the time), and there are unlimited plug ins and settings that can achieve anything, anyone wants and needs. In this new era of photo/videography data transfer rates, codecs, heat dissipation, etc are equal to color science and ergonomics. Arguably Sony managed to get a huge piece of the pie (beating Nikon in some instances and markets) with the worst ergonomics, heat dissipation, color science in industry, winning just on the specs list, and sensor technology. That took them to the next step (now) and (arguably!) they do better in all those with their newer cameras (A7mkIII/A9) and their future seems more established than most of the older players. I am sure that whatever Fuji engineers had in their mind, they got scared after the GH5 and GH5s release. I had a lot of Fuji digital cameras in the past, but their ILC line just isn't good enough for a true hybrid (50%-50%) experience.

LukiLink project turns smartphones into an HDMI monitor
Kisaha replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
it is 1900euros in my country (euros is a much heavier currency than any $), and 1700 euros the cheapest in the continent. For a 5" device is rather expensive! You buy a new GH5 with that money and has most of the codecs you need in built! Anyways, the project seems like a scum, no one is replying, no one says anything. We have started filling complaints. The point of this, was to have a semi-alright ability to turn any mobile phone into a monitor, with no excessive lag, and on a 129-149euros price. That would be amazing, and I could see a lot of amateurs buying one as a primary monitoring device, or professionals as a secondary, or third, or backup plan. It seems like it hasn't been done yet, because it isn't easy. -

...and the price..oh! the horror.. -
I doubt they have the resources and tech to go against Panasonic/Sony, or the user base to go against the future Canonikon mirrorless. I do see them in the future being a niche camera maker in the context of Pentax is right now. A few loyalists, and not a significant growth in numbers. I will be waiting to see what they can offer in 2018, but the latest X-A5 is similar in size and price when the NX500 was new, 3 full years ago, and the 2 cameras are not even close. A lot of tech and features to implement to stay competitive. At least they do what they can, and do not promise what they can't (e.g Sony).

LukiLink project turns smartphones into an HDMI monitor
Kisaha replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I have used once the BlackMagic 5" and it was too wide and heavy. I am not sure an external recorder is the solution to a modern world! Ideally cameras should include great Super Amoled 4.5-5" monitors, great codecs, and that's it. Add an Sennheiser 440 and go! When you start building up your rig, then you can't stop. I sometimes build a rig out of my NX500 just for fun, with matte box and everything! With all these said, I have to admit that the NX screens are just unbelievable. I watched some footage I shoot for a couple of jobs (together with the clients) and most of the 6-8 hours footage is in focus, but as we (I) getting old, a nice SmallHD does the job better I guess. Haven't used it professionally yet. -
LukiLink project turns smartphones into an HDMI monitor
Kisaha replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
@IronFilm I just can't believe that still it isn't possible. Where is Aputure and Fotga when you need them?! For 80-90euros was worth the risk, and we have to support innovation some times! I am super happy with the SmallHD Focus, but it could be cool to have a simple monitor always in your pocket or bag! -
LukiLink project turns smartphones into an HDMI monitor
Kisaha replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Sadly, seems more and more like a scum. It is almost a month with no updates, while we were expecting delivery for Christmas (the project was about to conclude in September, or October, originally). No one is replying to the comments, emails, or anywhere, and the latest video we had was a prototype with a lot of cables and a huge circuit with latency of a second or two. Not good.. Most of the backers are asking for refund (to no avail of course). -
I quote @Panther "In 2014 the NX1 did already what no other camera has done since. They downscaled the complete 28MP sensor into 4k video. Even many years later Sony has massive problems doing that with 24MP and other brands are not even trying. The NX1 was so ground breaking, that you could release it today as an X-T3 or A7000 and it would be a huge step up." and I quote @secondhalflife "They should rather deliver a firmware update for all the quirks in the original model." The first one show NX1 as it was, a technological marvel, with soul (like @Andrew Reid described above, the camera feels good in the hand and has great color science with full adjustability), and the second(halflife) show it as a massively flawed try from a TV, air conditioner maker. Obviously the first is closer to reality, because the camera has no software flaws. Funny rumor though.
-
100% of the specs,4000euros. 75% - 3500euros 50% - 3000euros Just a slight upgrade to the NX1 with better low light video and a better video codec (not much in need for photography really, 15fps, 28mgpxls, BSI), I would pay 2000euros.
-
..and I quote muself "...mainly it was managements fault, review of the market/trends (mobile camera phones are much more profitable), power strangle inside the company, and the such.". Here, the main reasons already said.
-
@Trek of Joy huge respect to Fuji and what they do. The thing is that while, as @Andrew Reid mentioned, NX1 has an amazing (under the right circumstance) dual IS (lens+DIS) while a Fuji combo with the 16-55 offers none of that. Also the S was less than 1000$/€/£ brand new. Also, there is no native fish eye. These 2 lenses, the 45mm 1.8th and the 12-24 are my most used lenses for pro work and the pancake 30mm/2f for everyday/carry around lens with the extremilly capable NX500. Then the bodies Currently there is no Fuji camera reaching NX capabilities. No slow motion, crop in 4K, limited recording capabilities without an extra grip while the NX1 goes straight 78minutes in 1080p, no flagship touch capabilities etc etc I could go on and on. Fuji are great and all, I am always looking at them, especially for the good ultra wide zooms they have, I would love a 8-16mm/2f-2.8f stabilezed S lens, but sadly they do not.have the resources to compete. M43 will probably eat their share really soon. Your hand must have been too heavy! I just looked on mine now and it is 16-20mm 2f, 20-23mm 2.2f, 24-32/33mm 2.5f and 2.8f until the end. Not bad for a slightly lighter and smaller lens that the non stabilized Fuji! Also, the new X-A5 ia a lot worst camera than the NX500 with similar size and price, 3 full years later! Just look at the specs and laugh..

@salim no, no, no, no! Samsung did exactly this, and they do not care anymore. Samsung NX10 was the first APS-C mirrorless (and not dSLR as you said! Even though they had a partnership with Pentax and Schneider ages ago) camera in January 2010. There is no point really going back in history and the mistakes they did (their 1st pro camera was the NX1, 5 years after, too late in the pro game, didn't differentiate much before their latest models) but you need pros to push lower sales, like F1/moto GP/WRC, noone will ever buy a F1 car, but they fight hard to win the competition. Canonikon is everywhere, from sports events to red carpets all over the world, whatever you like, whenever, has been probably photographed by a Canonikon camera, these things are written in the subconscious. Sony knows that (A7 series and now A9 and lenses), m43 group knows that (newer top m43 cameras with 20mgpxls substantially more expensive than the NX1 at release), Samsung may realized that after they finished the line! What @Andrew Reid said, limited edition, show case camera. Nothing more, nothing less. The industry is too crowded as it is, and top mobile phones go north of 1000$/euros. Why to compete in the declining photo camera market? Seriously, I wouldn't care less. Samsung still is active in VR and 360 and offer some of the cheaper entry level options for both. @tyger11 wrong! The lens selection brought me to the system (for my photographic hobby) back in the day. Excellent small, sharp and cheap pancakes (10mm - amazing tiny fish eye, 3rd favorite NX lens/16/20/30/45mm 1st favorite NX lens), a cheap and super sharp wide open ultra wide zoom, smallest and lightest in its category (12-24), a masterful 85mm (seriously, try to search some on Flicker, one of the best 85 lenses ever produced), 60mm macro (good for portraits), various cheap zoom (usually, and mostly, better than similar lenses in competing systems, even the ultra cheap kit 16-50PZ is a great little lens on its own, while the Sony, par example, is just useless), then the 2 pro S lenses (late in the game too) the one and only 16-50S (2nd favorite, most used) with IS (something the similar Fuji doesn't have) and starts from 2f (really like having 3 wide primes with 2f) and the amazing 50-150 (sadly I do not own that lens, still goes more than 1000$ used, or more), etc etc. I could go on and on. And this is a dead system, go compare with similar APS-C systems like Eos M (not even close to the Samsung, good for amateurs with the 22mm pancake and the 11-22 UWZ, a silly wide macro with a led light on and a few cheap zooms, nothing else), and the Sony one. Fuji has a whole lineup, no native fish eye though, no S workhorse, and inflated prices in most lenses.
-
@Damphousse dude! we are far from burned! most friends and professionals have changed 2-3 systems since 2014 in search of a better system, and I am confident in my equipment for at least a year or two! 16 and 20mgpxls were the sensor's technology back then, and for some even now, Super Amoled EVFs and touch screens were a luxury or a total miss, and for some even now, uncroped APS-C 4K/no overheating/H265 are still novelties (even latest A6500 does not comply). The first and truest pro APS-C mirrorless (until A9 and A7Riii). NX1 was a hybrid for the future (which is now!). We tend to forget that products and companies are pushing the envelope. Back then, the GH4 was a big step forward, I have friends now saying the worst things about that camera, but they forget what were the other options, really. GH5, the same. NX1 was such a camera. We have to look at history when is happening, not of what we wish could have happened (history is my hobby!). @Andrew Reid If anyone could do a prototype such this, then Samsung would be the one. The newer processor is so much powerful (eating Snapdragons for lunch and dinner!), and I am sure they would have optimized their older chips where it counted. They have unlimited resources and mobile phone cameras is one of the strongest selling point in that industry right now, and in the near future. NX1 was made exclusively by Samsung, in house, and in most components (SAMOLEDs, touch interfaces, RAM, mobile processors and efficiency, data transfer etc) are the best in business, not just good.
-
@IronFilm That seems like a NX1 mkII, alright! That's how you upgrade a camera, but I do not see becoming a reality, ever. Interesting and impressive though. The numbers are just staggering. There is no way anyone could match those specs before 2020, than Samsung itself. NX1 was that revolutionary 4 years ago, when Canon still offering very very soft 1080p, we have just a tiny smell of H265 on other cameras, menu system, ergonomics (I am sure if anyone has even hold one for a little while knows what I am talking about), and so much technology in a so cheap camera. Truth is, we do not want a NX camera every year, just a limited edition every 4 years (whatever price, I pay!) would do. And a couple of S lenses (an S ultra wide is the only thing I miss on the system).

After so many issues with Adobe Premiere, especially tragic bugs and terrible programming from 2015 amd onward, I am considering try final cut again, after so many years. I am considering 2 options. On a Xeon 3.2(or something)MHz,old GTX660 etc Or on a laptop with i7-6700 and 1060. Does any one have any experiences with this kind of hardware? I would rather experiment on my old PC, rather the laptop!
