Ask Hasselblad when the X2D will be announced and if 4K RAW will be implemented?
-
You know what.... at this point, even if Sony put out an a7S3... its like... oh ok... another contender that has caught up to the benchmark that Panasonic is setting. In fact, I would even say that Fuji is really setting the bar here... just when Panasonic goes FF.... oh yeah? MF is really the direction the industry is going ?

It’s just a personal recommendation... I’m not really comparing... Im sure if we are pixel peeping, etc... we should be able to discern one camera from another and I’m talking specifically about the output (or end-product) of the cameras; and I’m not just talking about the 1dx2 vs XT3... you can include the GH5/S, A73, etc in this conversation... by the way... did you do that black and white Image Quality test between the 1dx2 versus the GH5S??? What were your findings? My recommendation was based on small, simple, comparable IQ, relatively cheap (non-commitment type cheap), all the high-end specs in almost a throw away type camera... I feel anything in the $2K+ automatically and immediately gets you in the committed zone. Then, your defending your purchase decisions etc. You can build this camera up to be almost like the 1dx2...

I'm making an assumption here... given that you are in this forum and not some other forum, you are more inclined towards video. And, given that you are not invested in any ecosystem, I recommend that you stay that way... if you are going to invest in lenses look at PL lenses. May be get 1 kit lens with whatever camera you want... this is the advice I give anyone, this way you are not disappointed with a particular brand/system for not bringing out the latest/finest. My current recommendation is get the X-T3. If you want to wait for the Panasonic FF or A7S3... then wait... but you could be waiting and waiting and waiting for something better to come along all the time... if you need something now... well look at the options you have now.

Ditto! Although, I suppose those 3 features will equal to a 4th feature i.e. internal over-heating.
-
Given that its the same size and look... do you think the booster grip from the XT2 will fit this?
-
I second this... I'm happy to have downsampled from 6K sensor... But, why not give us 6K/24, 5K/30, 4K/60, 3K/100, 2K/120... instead? These TV resolutions.... you can crop in or resize to get that in post..... BTW, Fuji... great job on the X-T3... if you are reading this, look into implementing the above with a dedicated video record button at least by the X-T5. Speaking of which, with a 1.5 crop of the Super35.... what does it become with a speedbooster? Isn't greater than FF? Can you at least tell us a release date if you are bound by NDAs?

"nothing to see here... move along...." There are so many threads for this crappy cam... I can't even remember where I last posted about how disappointed I am in the rumored specs... now that its become reality, I'm not really surprised... You know what I've learned over the years.... especially about Canon... Do not believe the hype!!! Its always a let down... Even the rumored pro-mirrorless thats coming in 6 months... You know what I think... I think that they don't know how to get rid of the crop... In fact, I predict that they will release a 50MP Mirrorless in 6 months with a greater crop (what is that? a 2.3 crop?)... Mark my word... may be 1080/120p... BUT... I also bet that they will create a 0.7 focal reducer to counter the crops (their half-assed solution to a dumb problem). I think there was a patent posted on Canonrumors about a focal reducer for mirrorless... need to fish that one out.... bah... someone else can do that...

Game Over nothing.... From my understanding, it’s better in some aspects to the 5D4, and worse in others... If you don’t see it, draw up a pro and cons list of both cams and compare for yourself (whoever you are...) So, all in all... it’s the same cam 2 years after the 5D4 announcement... kind of a disappointment if you ask me... Lets see what kind of camera they come up with 6 months down the road - a rumour of a higher end mirror less cam is still hanging there...
-
I’m not bagging on Fuji, as this announcement sounds better than both Nikon & Canon’s upcoming cameras... at least to me... But @Django is correct it is 1.7... to be more precise 1.755... because although it’s advertised as 1.17 crop... that crop is already from a cropped 1.5 APS-C sensor... 1.17 X 1.5 = 1.755. Nonetheless... lets not jump the gun and speculate too much on what may be or not.... let’s see what they will put out with the XT3.

What is your budget like? You need 240fps in 1080P? What about 4K? Happy with just 60P? Obviously.... the GH5S is good enough, but sensor size is becoming a limitation? Otherwise, I would recommend the Z Cam E2. In my opinion, if you weren't restricted by a budget and/or if you were cool with RED, check out Used RED Epic X on Ebay. You can't go wrong -> Super 35, 5K @ 120fps, 4K @ 150fps, 3K @ 200fps & 2K @ 300fps. And, all in compressed RAW.

100% on the teething pain... But it’s not going to be hard getting this going... I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again... This phone will be like Beats by Dre head sets, not because it’s the kraziest new gadget like how when iPhone came out in 2006/2007, but because it will be associated to celebrity status... DPs will get their hands on it first, and then celebrities will become interested by proximity... I have a feeling that holo-chat is going to be that hook.
-
I’ll be honest... this phone does peak my interest. And, a very keen observation by that article is that if RED can make that phone into a very essential part of the filmmaking kit. And, after some thought... all it has to do is give Atomos - a run for their money.

Sony A7 III first impressions - what is going on with metering in video?
mkabi replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I was suggesting something more along the lines of some sort of compressed RAW via HDMI and Atomos decodes and can recode it as either CDNG or Pro Res Raw - or other pro res non-RAW formats. I don't understand... Isn't that what the a7III is doing? 4K FF Mirrorless for $2K... I don't understand this either... What are we doing here... follow the leader? From my understanding each company (specifically Canon, Sony and Panasonic) leap frogged one another... Yes, it all started with the 5D mark 2... but lets skip ahead to the 4K gen. cameras. I mean I can talk about the GH1 to Gh3.... but again.... lets skip to the 4K DSLRs and 4K MILCs... 2012 -> Canon 1DC - First 4K DSLR. Panasonic said, we can do that and add 1080 @ 96fps -> GH4 Sony took their time but they did have a low-light monster... eventually leap frogged them by introducing 1080 @ 120fps (though cropped in the a7sII) 2016 -> Canon 1dx mark 2 - First 4K @ 60p and 1080/120p (no crop) Panasonic said, oh yeah? 10 bit and 1080 @ 180p No wait... we have more improvements -> GH5s Blackmagic comes in.... and said.... "What? You forgot about us?" Throws the Pocket Cinema4K and mind fucks us. Sony, can't be like... we can match the Panasonic GH5........... -
Sony A7 III first impressions - what is going on with metering in video?
mkabi replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I think I would be really mad if they pull another FS5II when it comes to the A7SIII. Then again, I can't see the A7SIII falling behind the A7III and still charge $3500 (or more) for it. If they pull a blackmagic - full frame RAW option... its game over. I mean, may be not internally... but what if Atomos knew or had a collaboration with Sony <- HDMI Raw -> Pro Res Raw. GAME OVER! -
This is not necessarily true.... In my opinion, this really belongs to a crew of more than 1 and even if that means you have actors involved. To be honest, if you are already writing a script.... bring a friend onboard... this whole, one-man/person show is not really what its cracked up to be.... especially if you are time-constrained, have a budget, etc. The friend doesn't have to be experienced or share the same interests - they could just help with the set up (bringing equipment from the truck/car, setting up lights, setting up flags, etc.) and they can even make simple comments/recommendations. Basically, you have ideas and images in your head.... You want to communicate that to the crew... best way to do that is through storyboarding. The script is only half way to the point, and a picture is worth a million words. It also helps with identifying the shot list.

Darnit you beat me to it. I was going to say to get a Boater hat, Hawaiian shirt, tape your nose and sunglasses... and you have your disguise.... I mean you can blend in :D
-
I'm confused by this statement... so say you have 5 min. left in your battery, and you say.... ok guys.... cut.... lets take a break so I can swap out batteries. So you stop recording and instead of taking out the battery you just put on the grip with the additional batteries, its going to turn off the camera after 5 min of use?
-
Do you have a 4K monitor? You don't need someone else to tell you how good an image of one camera is from another... you can do that for yourself. May be I am coming off as too strong here... In any case, I suggest that you go to youtube and look for "Fuji X-T2 vs Canon 5D mark IV 4K" by Sierra Creative. Watch both parts (1 & 2)... I believe that he upscales 1080/60p to 4K and pits it against its own 4K.... I don't have a 4K monitor to tell the difference... but its interesting and gives you insight of upscaling possibilities.

May be I should've been clearer..... Of course, you can have 4K on a m43... You can also have 4K on a cellphone camera.... But is that really any good for image quality??? You can spout about lens resolving capabilities and pixels gathering light... But is that going to give you the best in image quality? There are plenty of camera makers... Only one that thinks resolution is what matters most and that's Red.... Arri has never made a true 4K super35 sensor camera (which is bigger than m43). And, read that article.... It actually does not say, "...for 4K someone needs LF sensor...," but it does say that many of the high-end cinema cameras are moving to LF and most are 6K+ except Arri.... What does Arri know that the rest doesn't know????
-
The real question is 4K too much for m4/3? https://www.redsharknews.com/production/item/5258-top-end-cinema-cameras-it-s-all-becoming-clearer After reading that article, I can deduce that Arri who is a leader in the industry didn't feel that true 4K on super35 was a good fit so they went LF....

Exactly! I wasn't complaining, but I wasn't exactly defending either... I participated in the discussions as a third person observer... And, all of a sudden... He comes in a says.... You get a weapon... You get a weapon.... You get a weapon..... Everyone that was on our side gets a weapon!!!!! (A la Oprah Winfrey-esque) I was like fuckedity fuckfuck fuck! Why didn't I say shit? I could've got a weapon... Play around with it for 6 months.... Sold it and buy a Scarlet-W and still made a profit!
-
There is an actual reason for that.... and I'm not making excuses... but once you know... I'm sure all of us will be kissing some major ass over there too. Not that I am.... I'm done with RED and that forum for now. May be in the future.... and even then I would rather rent than own. A couple of years ago... 2015/2016... the preorders for the Raven & Scarlet-W was not only backordered, but was going out of hand. Basically, what had happened was that there was way too many Raven orders for them to handle so they introduced the Scarlet-W with the incentive of those who switch from the Raven will get in line first, even if you were the first to preorder the Scarlet-W and wasn't even interested in the Raven. In other words, if you ordered the Scarlet-W straight, and didn't give a shit about Raven, I would be able to bud-in line before you if I switched my Raven order to a Scarlet-W. You can see why.... people were getting mad... on top of that.... people were getting impatient.... I think it was already 6 months in.... from preorder to delivery date. People were getting their Ravens, but slower than the Scarlet-W orders, because they prioritized Scarlet-W and Weapon orders..... I think they had 3 assembly lines and they switched every 2 weeks or month to speed up one process over the other or something.... So, complaints on the main forum started pouring in... slowly at first, then it started becoming a mad frenzy. There was may be 1 Red rep that was trying to provide answers and help calm the complainers, along with may be 5 or 6 people that was defending the brand and being loyal.... Within 2 to 3 weeks, Jarred Land came in and rewarded the 5 or 6 people with Weapon upgrades for free. All of a sudden, whether you were a Raven preorder or Scarlet-W preorder - those 5 to 6 people got Weapons instead. He became the Oprah of Cinema Cameras and people just shut up and started kissing ass.

I don't know who to believe here, but according to @Emanuel's site recommendation: https://photographylife.com/fujifilm-x-h1-vs-x-t2 The X-H1 does have dual processor... now how much of either processors is working on IBIS calculations, who knows.... but may be if we turn off IBIS, we can also engage 4K/60p & 10 bit... RAW through HDMI pretty please!
