  1. I find it funny that you give comments like this... and look at the date.... the GH5 was released months before this post. And, then you get a sour apple type negativity towards the X-H1 when its announced with far more video features than the X-T20. Just sayin... is it the bigger body? Price? Cause the recording time is like 10 min. (continuous) on this thing (X-T20).
  2. I'm not disagreeing with you. Just want to make one thing clear.... its just semantics and how you think along the lines of what the words actually mean.... "turn off" is not the same as "turning down." And, in the end, it all comes down to how much did Panasonic think was enough noise to be acceptable by the general user. And, this goes the same with any company and what they are not telling you.... for example, Canon might be adding a filter somewhere along the pipeline to clean up the image slightly before handing it over to the user so the end user can say I applied NR here.
  3. Given the fact that you have no way of turning off Noise reduction, that that is the character of the camera.,... so those are the images you will get every time and all the time with the GH5.
  4. The real question is... can the GH5 and/or GH5S do better? I have neither Fuji nor Panasonic... no glass... nothing... so I have no real stake in it.... by saying it. I think the Fuji looks better than the GH5. This is purely wooden niccolls to wooden niccolls... here is a GH5 version: And from watching that... this is very digital and video-y to me. Its my personal opinion, though. But, I will admit the Gh5 is far more compact and to be somewhat equivalent they had to shoot the Fuji with an external recorder to get 4:2:2. 1000% agree on the T/O grading.... but is that part of the Eterna profile? Or is that separate grading? Plus, I admit the girl might of swayed me to like it
  5. For anyone thats interested. TCSTV is having a live talk about the XH-1 here:
  6. Hell yeah.... theCameraStoreTV really brought it this time.
  7. I said it before and I will say it again…. Lets wait for the camera to get into more capable hands. More than half the footage coming out… I don't know, may its user error, but they don't look right. Including that Japanese footage. With that said, this is the only one I saw with the 4K Eterna at 200mbps that looked half decent, and even then I don't think they pushed the image to any degree:
  8. Thanks a lot this is very informative... Just for the record, the pictures itself is kind of deceiving. Its about 18.2mm (~2cm) smaller on the wide end, the picture looks like its only 1 cm less wide, and are they including the strap hooks as part of the measurements? Because thats just negligible in my opinion. But the depth is what surprised me 85.5mm vs 82.6mm, obviously thicker from eyecup to end of grip... but in the picture you see it being smaller than the 1DX mark 2. Numbers don't lie Lastly, yes... 70mm seems like a lot of distance, but thats about 2.75 inches... now it doesn't seem like a lot does it? Again, the pictures are deceiving... Hopefully a direct comparison is coming along....
  9. @DaveAltizer I'm envious of your acquisitions... but at least... you will be a barometer that will be able to test the X-H1 against the 1DC. I'm sure Andrew will do the same, 2 reviews are better than one :D I know you have a youtube channel, and I will definitely check it out when you review the X-H1. Nonetheless, do me a favor: - do an IQ test (some side by side comparisons to 1DC at differing resolutions) - compare the size and weight next to the 1DC & 80D (if you opt for the grip, show that next to the 1DC & 80D too) - Lastly, do a comparison of the user interface and handling next to the 1DC and/or 80D I'm sure if I opt for the X-H1, I can get past the user interface/handling issue (through constant use and practice), but still want to see how bad it is and how long it will take me to get past that little heap of the learning curve. Of course, I want your personal opinion too. Can't wait.
  10. Hasn’t the global shutter sensor been a long time rumour? I mean as long as the organic sensor rumours, and the curved sensor rumours? Im guessing that this is more believable given that they’ve been implemented in the Blackmagic and Bolex cams.
  11. Get out of your Panasonic only field of vision. Read that sentence carefully.... is 8bit 4:2:2 better than 8 bit 4:2:0???? How many cameras does that offer now? I never talked about price, form-factor, sensor size... so technically.... Arri cams, Red cams, higher end Sony cams, Canon EOS line, etc.... all fit that description.... is it still 1 now?
  12. lol... I was too lazy to actually count.... I didn't want to say most, all or few.... so for the time being the word "many" suited the situation. :D Editted to add: In retrospect, there is only 2 in DSLR form factor with all the above features, and only 1 in this price range.
  13. I will have to agree with what many people have said so far with regards to the flaws... I mean, given that many other manufacturers have removed the time limit, better battery life, more than just 8bit 4:2:0 and have 4K/60p... Its a shame... but... I know where I am coming from (i.e. the 5D2, 7D, t3i)... don't get me wrong, I have worked with the 1DC, C500, the Red Raven, but the body size and their relative capabilities are all part of the bigger equation... so this is still a valid solution for me. I mean, look at that IQ (this is after I saw videos in more capable hands), still will wait for more reviews, I want more direct comparisons to other hybrid cameras before I make a decision to buy it. Speaking of which... is this thing as big as the 1DX/1DC/1DX mark 2 with the grip on???
  14. Here is a somewhat comprehensive review of the X-H1
  15. The first video - the motion cadence doesn’t look right. All the videos so far... may be I’m talking too soon... in any case, please give the cameras to someone more capable. It’s not showcasing its capabilities - colours are bad. I will wait to see what Andrew has to say when he compares it against the 1DC and the D850
  16. None of the Cameras that we usually look at have DCI 2K.... remember the Blackmagic 2.5K cinema camera... and the cinematic IQ that was putting out?
  17. Better yet. It literally is a little being that is learning how to paint a picture.... currently everything looks like finger paintings... eventually you get to choose creative styles like Van Gogh or Picasso. Can’t wait for the little guy to learn Orogamy so it throws out next level 3D projects :oD
  18. I bet that since it’s organic, it is not really feasible, especially for the future cause it biodegrades like compost :oD
  19. Now..... For the big question: Is 4:2:0 better than 3:1:1?
  20. Did this guy see the leaked specs sheet? https://www.fujirumors.com/fujifilm-x-h1-full-german-press-release-specs-leaked-price-1899-fujfilm-x-t20-gfx-firmware-coming/#disqus_thread I'm sure he will be happy with most of the issues addressed, but now Im kind of worried with the second card slot not being able to record video (FTW??)
  21. Red's definition of affordable and/or cheap is within the $8K+ (body only) area.
  22. Yeah for sure... It was leagues ahead of its time. At least, in my point of view. Don't get me wrong..... There was the high end cinema market and the low end consumer market. You can clearly see the difference in the IQ too.... You had a choice between a shit image and greatness and in my opinion there was no in between either.... That's the dividing line for me.... All movies before 2008 and after, and you have to think the camera might have been released in 2008, but you need to shoot, edit and may be reshoot... So you can say anything before and after 2008/2009. You will automatically see some quality boosts.... Even the high end cinema cameras needed to step it up, cause you don't want a $3K DSLR to outshine a $50K+ camera, right? Remember when editing systems, flags and Arri lights were expensive and out of reach? Now look at where we are.... A decade later....
  23. Just to be clear here guys.... And Im sure everyone agrees...that 10 bit 4:2:2 is definitely better than 8 bit 4:2:2, which in turn is better than 8 bit 4:2:0. That is without a question. I think what most is arguing is that you can still work with 8 bit 4:2:0.... As we have before the GH5 came along.

    DJI leaks

Leaks? Looks like some random person's concept art and dreams for what will come next from DJI.
  25. For me... the 15 min. time limit is not a big deal. Most of my takes and cuts are within a couple of seconds, max. 10 to 15 of dialogue, but nobody has the attention span to watch something in one single angle and/or one scene for 15 min straight. Man... the GH5 & GH5S really ruins things.... I come from a more modest background.... remember the good old days? lol... that wasn't even that long ago.... Canon 5D mark 2 - had only 12 min recording limit.... remember that? It only had 1080p at 8 bit 4:2:0 too This is definitely a huge departure from that.... Not anywhere close to the GH5/GH5S though. I have to agree with Jonpais that since this is advertised as a more video oriented camera it's a little let down... However... in my eyes... this is a true hybrid the photography aspects don't outshine the video aspects and vice versa. Whereas in the X-T2 and in fact, all their cameras... photography is primary use... video is an after thought. I might get 2 of these.... one for myself and secondary one for the wifey.... depending on what else is on the market by the end of NAB 2018. I might even wait till photokina 2018 (is it a photokina year?). I will definitely have to wait for some reviews.... Hey Andrew.... please review this camera!
