  1. What is this love for EVA and hurting its sales, argument? As a consumer... we all should be rejoicing.... not be balancing Panasonic's accounts. Just saying. But for arguments sake... May be, the EVA isn't getting the reception that they supposed that it would get? Now, knowing that... would you rather someone else cannibalize it and lose money.... or would you (yourself) rather cannibalize it and even it out or make money?
  2. Now, we are talking... DCI 4K with 120fps - sweet. But you have to ask yourself this.... if Sony is letting go of this type of sensor to its competitor, what are they keeping for themselves?
  3. Sony a7s mark 3 - Used after Sony a7s mark 5 is announced.
  4. I'm well aware of Tangerine's $100K budget and that they've made $700K in the box office. And, I'm sure you know about the $60K budget of the Blair Witch Project, and how much did they make? Which camera(s) did they use? Content is King, no matter the camera. As for the budget.... how much did some of us put towards a college/university degree? or down payment on a house? Its all an investment that we hope make a return on.... its all a friggin gamble in the end anyway.... unless you are buying the camera so you that you can run tests on them. If you have an idea, and you truly believe in it.... get a bank loan, home equity line of credit and get going....
  5. I agree with Jonpais. If you are not a DP/Director, nor are you an aspiring DP/Director.... who are you to judge others of not being DP/Director, and/or aspiring DP/Director? Don't put me and you in the same boat, just because you and I have the same camera doesn't mean that I have the same thoughts and/or dreams like you. Now, nobody here was born in a Hollywood studio, at least I'm not... and even though, I can afford some of the cameras on that list.... I prefer to film with whatever I have.... I would assume most established DP/Directors started off somewhere as well.... and didn't have Panavision or whatever at their disposal from the get-go of their respective careers... Now, if you are an established DP/Director making some serious money, and you are filming with an iPhone.... then that's a different story.... but still, who am I to judge? Speaking of iphone, everyone always forgets about Tangerine - https://www.theverge.com/2015/1/28/7925023/sundance-film-festival-2015-tangerine-iphone-5s Now that.... if anything, should be an inspiring story for those of us who are still aspiring to be a DP/Director....
  6. I'm sorry for pitifully pandering on behalf of my friend, but if you are interested in a 1DC.... Check out the 'Gear for Sale' Section and make an offer. Its tested, it comes with extra batteries and memory cards, just saying....

    DJI SPARK

Not really, but technically this drone can't make a phone call, nor can you play music, games, surf the net, etc. But, if its about taking selfies.... and you want cheap.... and you want to use your smartphone (?) May be this would be better? http://store.xcraft.io/xplusone-store-xcraft-vtol-drone-sandpoint-id/phonedrone By the way, thats $100 cheaper.
  8. I guess I was trying to be funny... the keyword is *trying*.... cause I was just answering your question (I also editted the post so it made more sense). But here is a question for you... why do you have to find your way to reliable AF? I would assume that everyone would want reliable AF straight out of the box... What if you bought a camera.... with this, that and this.... and you take it out of the box and start taking pictures and video... and everything turns out to be in monochrome (black and white).... I'm sure you will have to find your way to taking color pictures and video - but wouldn't it make more sense to be in color straight out of the box (in the first place).... in fact, I'm sure most people will return it thinking that something is wrong with it.
  9. I know what unreliable AF is.... its Focus hunting and being off focus even after selecting what to focus on. So, I'm assuming its the opposite of that....
  10. I don't know if it will happen, but there are high chances that it can have 4K/60p and 10bit.... and have the same price. There are a few features in the a7s ii that are not in the a7r ii and the prices were the same. One example is the 1080/120fps thats not in the a7r ii.... I mean.... there is the lower resolution sensor of the a7s ii too...........but you give some to take some....
  11. In retrospect, this announcement is kind of surprising.... what ever happened to the a7 mark3? Thats the camera without the R or the S.
  12. My guess is within 6 months - ahead of NAB 2018. Only saying that because they literally released the Sony a7r II and a7s II within 2 to 3 months of each other.... but Sony has some real erratic behavior sometimes... so it can even be 2 years later.
  13. I think its because we are at a time when we have this huge repository of movies at our disposal that movies like the original seem less inspired in terms of story.... If we go back in time to the 80s and look back, sure you can't pit the story against the likes of the God Father movies, nor Citizen Kane, but the visuals took precedence. I don't know.... you can argue that Star Wars had the visuals and the storyline. I grew up in an era where Commando was a staple - I vividly remember where everyone would say that that was a badass movie, now go back and look at it - its laughable. With that said, 2049 had to pay homage to the original but also have a decent storyline - which I think it had. I liked it a lot and I think that what Harrison Ford said in an interview came true - "you don't have to watch the original to understand this movie, its like a standalone" or something along those lines.
  14. Hey Dogtown, Andrew or whoever that owns a C500 & Odyssey 7Q+ combination... Are you able to record 4096X1080 @ 120fps without the RAW upgrade? I mean... will it conform internally and record it at 30fps in slow-mo? The only tests I see are with RAW upgrades and needing 2 SSDs.
  15. Not cheap... And, forget about adapting your lenses to this thing with a speedbooster... But... I can see this being an ultimate independent filmmaker - one-stop-shop tool - if you buy all 4 lenses and can deal with the battery issue.
  16. The internet is made of overly sensitive people... but I have to agree... grabbing people's attention with a title like "The falling man"..... really? No females on their marketing team either?
  17. Before anyone takes this whole thing super seriously - going off on Canon for crippling their cameras. Andrew also says, "I probably wouldn’t use it for paid work though." Read the article to know why....
  18. As I said before... this is definitely blowing my mind...
  19. I guess, I will add my 2 cents in this.... I think the issue is name and price. Suppose they named it C100 mark 3 and priced it closer to that.... You can't even argue about the specs because its an obvious evolution of the C100 mark 2 - and the price would also be obvious.... In my opinion, they made a mistake with the C200 and C700. In fact, if I had a time machine and I was part of Canon's advisory committee.... I would have went back in time and told them to make a C100 mark 2 with 2.5K...Release C500 mark 2 with 6K (external recording - just following their thought process with the first C500).... and when you are ready with 8K.... then create a new line that will be the C700. Scrap the whole C200 idea.
  20. I was telling jcs, how much alike we are in a PM after reviewing his profile. Who else on this forum is like that???
  21. "Open Gate" High Resolution Anamorphic Mode (4992 x 3744) ^^^Thats the only thing thats blowing my mind right now about the GH5. What are the frame rates in Anamorphic Mode?
  22. lol.... they should rename themselves to NoHighSchoolNoElementarySchoolNoDayCareNoSchoolPeriod :D
  23. You can do that if you want 1080p, not if you want to deliver in 4K Also, even in 1080p... with 4K there is only so much you can do to reframe. Suppose you do what Ethan says get 1 camera and shoot dead center, also suppose you are happy with it and go back to the editing room - you are able to zoom in, perfect... you can have subject on left side of frame, you can have subject right side of frame, perfect.... But, what if you wanted a side view of the interviewee? Or, if there is an interviewer and an interviewee, and you want to shoot from behind either interviewer and interviewee... what do you do then? Reshoot....
  24. I second that, given that OP has the lenses. Sell your current E-M5 (body) and get a mark 2 (body only) - in fact, get 2 of them, that way you can shoot multiple angles without having to reshoot. The only other advice I have... because you are new to this.... look to other documentaries as a guide... Watch for color, composition, framing - just like photography... but also look for rhythm, scene switching and B-roll shots. Good luck. P.S. After getting an idea of how to shoot and edit.... do some pre-planning so you know what you want to shoot so the editing is less grueling.
  25. Have you looked at other RED stuff? Cheap is not within their vocabulary. Meh... he already said its an android phone... which means you can load other android apps. If it were their own proprietary OS.... then I would be concerned, but then again... I'm not worried at all, because I'm not even interested... why is anyone interested????? Sure, RED are disrupting the cinema industry and now they've moved their sights to cell phones... but they don't even have a prototype to show us... I need some modicum of assurance with a real world example... not a picture and a half-arse spec. sheet.
