Whats low budget? Meaning give us a price range. And, does the sound card provide phantom power? This question will automatically eliminate condenser mics from your list, if the answer is no...

Number 1 & 5. Currently I don't have any ND filters, so time of day matters (never high noon). If you have to know the process. Start at manual M & 180 degree, ISO 100 and open aperture to fullest. If its too dark, start increasing ISO, if its too bright start dialing down the aperture. The usual stuff. Then I start playing with WB.

As I grow older, I find that this is true in any industry not just film. Getting a degree is only part of the equation... but experience is a larger part... If you are planning a career in film... start building that portfolio.

+1 Like he said. I would really consider the audience too. I understand that we love topics like cameras, lenses, framing, editing, etc. BUT, most these guys who are probably taking this course for an easy A... probably won't be interested in the stuff that we talk about daily. In my opinion, consider the audience and the time limit of the workshop. Then show enough to arose curiosity so they can learn all the other stuff on their own. If I was you, I would ask everyone what's their favorite movie, then get a consensus of one popular movie. Throw the trailer of that movie through projector (via YouTube) and breakdown the trailer... scene by scene. Make it interactive and at the end... tell them about camera, lens, lighting, composition, etc.

I know it isn't the best, but it gets most of my work done: http://www.came-tv.com/high-cri-bicolor-2pcs-900-led-video-lights-studio-film-lighting-p-211.html I got it cheaper than the price it is listed it at... probably going to grab a couple of their Fresnels as well. Also, these are built to take a beating, I mean... well.... I've had cheaper LEDs and the barn doors peeled and dented too easily.

I'm beginning to think that mid-end IQ-savvy video market isn't very profitable... Samsung Cameras weren't the only ones to shut down, didn't Digital Bolex also call it quits.

The only experienced users are the reviewers that are able to buy various bodies (from different brands) and compare them. From what I've seen online, all other brands are sharper than Canon. And, there are multiple videos out there comparing the 5Diii to the Gh4, a7x, nx1, etc. In terms of sharpness. Even when filming in 4K, again... all other cameras outside of Canon are sharper. Sure, downsizing from 4K will make the footage sharper in 1080p.... but Canon 4K is going to be less sharper than Samsung nx1 4K... and if you downsize the Canon 4K to 1080p... its still going to be less sharper than nx1 4K downsized to 1080p. Now, it seems as if you are only looking at Canon DSLRs... Any particular reason? Any interest in anything outside of Canon? Any interest in Canon Cinema Cameras? But, if you insist on Canon DSLRs only... we suggest getting 5D3 and installing ML. I don't think ML is going to start playing around with the 5D4 any time soon. However, I specifically suggest you think about the 5DSR, because it is sharper than any DSLR camera Canon has at present, when shooting in 1080p (on original H.264).

Or just go with a couple friends.

Here is my take on the limit... If you need longer than 30 minutes, chances are... you are not changing lenses either for those 30 min. and longer. Right? So might as get a fixed lens solution without the 30 min. limit. I know many people want an all in one solution, but... if you have to pick... choose your weapons carefully.

If your company is not in any real hurry to purchase one or the other. I would suggest to rent and do a comparison, while you are at it.. please rent the C500 too Do a solid 4K 120fps test... With FS5 & Odyssey and repeat with FS5 & Shogun Inferno. Do the same with C500 (if you plan on renting that is,,,) Then put up a comparison video.

Now this makes sense to me... so technically a 15.4MP would not crop... But, hey... fake b/c of poor japanese grammar... lol.
-
Still can't grasp the concept (Neither 12MP fits into 42, nor 8MP goes into 42... then I tried the actual resolutions 3840X2160 into 7952X5304; even tried the many combinations of the 16:9 resolutions of the 42MP provided by dpreview). Perhaps if you told me the math behind it or at least point me to a source that will tell me the math behind it.
-
I suppose that explains the 12MP a7sii.... but what about the 42.4MP a7rii?
-
I'm confused by this logic. Canon crops I understand... Red Cropping I understand... But Sony cropping? How is it that 12MP is perfect for FF UHD and even the 42.4MP is perfect for FF UHD... but 15.4 is crop?

I don't know if anyone has posted this video already, but its interesting and they are comparing the two... Obviously... the Phantom 4 wins in terms of IQ but then if size and automation is a concern Mavic wins...

I don't know what they are smoking over there at Sony, but I love how in that video they say... "This does not replace the a6300 or the a6000 at all, its an addition to our a6000 line" then right after that he says... "and everything that makes the a6300 so great, we just built upon it with some new technology." I don't know whether they listen to themselves... oh well... thats Sony for you. Editted to add: Even at the beginning, "...its been aaa about 6 months, 6 months? 10 months, 8 months, its been 8 months since you last introduced the a6300" and the reply was "has it been that long?" REALLY??? lol... bah wait another 6 to 8 months for the a6700 or a7000 - can't wait for affordable 5K RAW, same as they put in the RX100 v

From a long time transcoder, I will vouch that its not losing quality. How about you do a little test and report back your findings (try it out for yourself), what harm can come from it?

When a Client Stops Being a Client & Becomes a Thieving Bastard!
mkabi replied to Bioskop.Inc's topic in Cameras
Here is the thing... you record to cover all the bases. I know a written statement is more binding, but you don't want a chance for them to say that "he tricked me into signing it." You ever think why do 2 people getting a divorce need a couple of lawyers to handle the splitting of assets? Can't they do it on their own, in a civilized fashion? They need 2 professional, unassociated/unrelated witnesses and a proper binding agreement. But you can bypass all of that if you ask permission to record the conversation of explaining the contract and having him sign it after explanation. Asking permission and recording the consent to record itself is also important. -
Google Transcoding h.264 to Pro Res and follow the steps. Yes, its an extra step that most people feel is redundant and mundane... but if you want mac friendly files... then this is the route you must take. Enjoy. P.S. what you have hardware wise is good enough.

When a Client Stops Being a Client & Becomes a Thieving Bastard!

Draw up a contract now for whatever cash they have to offer now. Put clauses in the contract that forbid them from ripping your new stuff. Re-edit and give them a half-ass version, cause they are paying you half-assed - put another clause in there that says you pay for what you get Last clause should say that you are the true owner of the material and that you can do whatever you want with it. Have them sign it, give them a copy and have them sign it. Explain for the most part that they are receiving the old stuff, not the new stuff and if they rip the new stuff you will sue. Also, in my opinion, so that it doesn't come back to bite you, you should ask permission and record conversations between you and these guys, so that they know what they are signing up to do... etc. Take their money and don't look back. -
So it had nothing to do with C-Log? In any case, it is good to know... In my opinion, the 1DC is a once in a life-time camera... it is the first of its kind, and because it didn't sell in the boat loads like the other cameras, there is a big chance that there isn't going to be a true successor. The other trend I am seeing is that as time goes forward in the DSLR world at least... I don't think Canon is planning to go backwards in the MP race. I don't ever think they are going to release a a7s competitor so that crop factor is here to stay (and its going to get bigger with more MPs - 18 to 20 to whatever else...) so the crop is either going to get worse or they are going to release the same codec seen in the XC10/XC15 and C300ii, in the regular EOS cameras... but I don't see that happening (meaning the codec change) in the near future either.... I think after a healthy saturation of Cinema cameras and they have exhausted it then it will appear in the lower end cams. So you can see why I see the 1DC as a once in a life-time camera, simply because it has the lowest crop and with the original C-log. Not to mention the Super 35mm option. Its originality will be in the sensor size and codec...
-
Why do you think that is? Meaning why do you think the 1DC is better in terms of IQ than the 1DX2? What if you applied Andrew's C-Log? Still think the the IQ is better in the 1DC?

Well... in this situation... a lot of people will ask... why even? When you are applying the diffusion/softening filters anyway, right? Well, I think you would want an option to choose, correct? Have that super sharp look for when you have foliage, landscape, and young super slick skin... And, when you shoot the wrinkled ones, you can add that filter when you want, not when the camera wants....
