Yeah, I usually start with my wife, and she can be really rough with the so called "constructive" criticism... move to sister and other family, then eventually friends. You can privatize your youtube videos and disable comments, if that will make a difference.

Working for a client, I think that going through the idea building and script stage to be the hardest. I mean, at first they will smile and nod at the ideas you are passing to them, then you get an okay to write a script, but after some thought, and you have written the short... they hate it. I've been through a couple of them, where not only did I write up a script... some of those scripts are still stored away to be used later. During the filming and editing stage, normally the client is more than happy with how the vision is playing out. Usually I get anyone involved to participate in my filming and editing phase... so they are happy with the end result. Normally, from product development point of view... any project.... not just video, but software, home renovation, prototype creation, etc. If you get the client deeply involved from the start, they will love the end result no matter what.... because they have invested so much time and effort in it.... its their baby. The only problem with personal projects, and in the end, many projects end up being personal projects.... is that you take a lot longer to complete it, because you have no deadline... So, unlimited feedback, until you get annoyed??? lol.

I guess, you missed this bit or I wasn't being clear enough when I said, "Suppose it is a bedroom, and you have a multiple partner fantasy... Suppose you're a girl using VR porn... Use your imagination..." If that wasn't clear enough... since we are knee deep in it already... I guess I don't need to be coy about it. lol... suppose, you are a girl and you are put in doggy style, now which way are you looking?

If I got that Red 18-85, yes... it would be my workhorse... meaning it will be used 70% of the time. To be honest, even if I only had just the 50mm... I can work with that... yes, you are running around a lot, but you get creative with it.

Collecting gear becomes a hobby. I get it. But, unless you are actually using it... other people will think its a waste and/or you are hording it. For example, my wife thought I was hording, and I had 8 lenses... go figure right? So I got rid of 3, it was a 20mm, 50mm & 100mm (canon primes). Now, I have a total of 5 lenses - typical - 35-50-85. One 16-35mm & a macro 100mm The only lenses I am lacking are a general purpose lens and a telescopic lens. My current craving is a Red 18-85mm T2.9 - Used its about $4-5K - PL mount. But I can get away with a 24-105 and it will cost a fraction of the Red lens.

I don't know why I'm discussing this in great detail... But, from my perspective, well... VR in general, not specifically 360 degree ...is about emmersing yourself in the experience. Suppose it is a bedroom, and you have a multiple partner fantasy... Suppose you're a girl using VR porn... Use your imagination... BTW... If you don't know that it already existed, here is an example of first time users and their thoughts... It's not 360, but still VR... Don't worry it's not rated xxx here:

Interesting. I'm not sure how I'm going to get my hands on a giant foam board, may be I can go over to homedepot and check out the insulation isle. Now, the question of how I'm going to suspend of the foam boards. Can't remember the height of the place, has to be well over 15 feet. Worse case scenario is... I change locations and/or cheat the shit out of it, like I usually do. Thanks guys.

I definitely want that intense look that Jones talked about. But, there will at least be 3 or 4 scenes with the same location and peeps... The first scene, I really want the audience to see a revelation of sorts... just so they understand the magnitude of force the protagonist will be facing later. If its too dark, the audience may miss the fact that there are 8 henchmen that the main character has to face... Ultimately, I definitely won't have time to choreograph 8 separate executions, but I just want the audience to kinda gasp... "oh shoot, how is he going to get through that..." kinda feel.

Question regarding lighting... So, here is the situation, I have a shoot coming up... Scenario: Mafia security like setting only its in a warehouse/abandoned building. There are no windows in this shot so no natural light. 8 guys in black suits. 4 on each side, across, facing each other. I need to light a path to the end of the hall... I was planning to have a total of 6 fresnels... 3 on each side, basically 1 light between each person... Was wondering if 300W is enough? Should I go to 600/650W? I think 6 - 1Ks may be too much? BTW, I might have 2 - 900 LED lights that will be facing the camera... Question because I have a week to film an entire warehouse scene, don't have time to mess around and experiment with the lights. Need to either rent or purchase lights ahead of time. Editted to add: I will have pretty fast cinema lenses... Max ISO 2850, but I'd like to stay as low as possible. Might want shutter speeds of up to 1/2000 for slow-mo... But if the shots are too dark, I won't use the shots.

I'll be at NAB, what would you like me to check out?

No probs, I think a google image search found a few. -
Good job on your first video. What did you think? Coming from a photography stand point?

See, I didn't understand the hype behind 360 VR, especially for those that are interested in it, even on this forum. Beyond gaming and porn, I can't see it being applied to cinema. Getting a headset alone, makes it a singular experience. Then there is a lot of issues, for example in terms of making a movie, it has a specific direction, whereas being in a VR it can go in any direction... the protagonist is going in one direction, you look away for a second and you lost him/her. A 100 day shoot, can easily turn into a 2 year shoot, then the director needs to sit next to the editor for another 2 years telling him, if the viewer turns this way, then he will run into this situation, etc. Making an infinite possibility of completing a movie, each time you see this movie its a new experience :D Then there is the issue of actually filming it, think about the lighting, the crew and other equipment (like dolly, crane, etc)... 360 rigs films everything, the director can't be in visible sight of the camera. I can also see its uses though, for instance, I definitely see it being used in fight scenes, like you are in the middle of a battlefield - bullets flying overhead, but that can be experienced in a video game too.

What was your shutter speed? Check your premier settings. What did you export the video from Adobe Premier as?

Hey Jones, can you take pictures? If so can you go by the Tilta booth and take a couple pictures of the new cage systems for the a7sii and specifically the Red weapon cage system. If they have a full blown system with Matte box and follow focus take a few pics from different angles. Thanks in advance. Also ask permission before taking pics thanks again. -
I'm sure that that's what happened to FPS1000. The problem I see is... They make these promises... And they have the knowledge and know how to do it... But then they underestimate the testing, quality control/assurance, government bylaws/standards, etc. If you go over to the FPS1000 Kickstarter page... You can see the updates... Telltale signs... Almost like scope creep. By the time FPS1000 delivers, something better comes along. Nonetheless, it's a cool looking camera. I wonder if it can do 4K @ 120fps or just 1080p @ 120fps or worse?

You got to give it up to Kinfinity for that... 5K for $5K and 6K for $6K... First to say that and actually mean it :D
-
The Arri Alexa MINI and the Red DSMC2 bodies are not that old, unless you are considering 2015 models old. It's obvious that kinfinity took design cues from both Arri and RED so if it's about style... Kinfinity hasn't done anything new. But it's true about RED keeping the body same only to sell more of the parts.
-
Just to be clear, I wasn't hating on blackmagic. I just made my prediction, given that they just started delivering the Ursa Minis and that global shutter not being delivered as promised. They can't be introducing new cams with newer and better specs... Most peeps will feel shafted.
-
SO far... My prediction is coming true :o) Make room Nostradamus, your new king is here.
-
You guys have it all wrong, except for the weapon... all RED products had an affliation with the Word RED, like RED scarlet, RED dragon.... So, with that tradition the next one is going to be RED® BABOONS ASS™®

Its great if thats the look you are going for... What did the original footage look like? I don't know... I remember a couple of years back, I was trying to learn color correction and I saw something similar to this, ONLY it was in english: Just saying that that video, almost seems like a western coloring was thrown on a milky S-Log???

This is what you are talking about: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?143854-RAVEN-and-KWAN-(Footage) In my opinion, I like the ISO test the guy does... not so much the first clip but the second clip (in the dark with a lighter) thats the kinda stuff I'd like to see... I wasn't a fan of the 3rd clip, which was the outrage of most of the people on reduser.net. But then people settled down, after seeing this: http://nofilmschool.com/2016/04/rare-new-footage-red-raven In my opinion, just cause you are buying a RED camera does not automatically mean that every single thing you take is going to be gorgeous. The only thing the Raven is bringing to the table is 4.5K resolution, high frame rates, 16.5 stops of dynamic range, and may be some color differences. That's it... It doesn't automatically make the video for you. Don't be disillusioned by the specs either... See Eric's video... If you can't do a similar video with a DSLR.... A RED camera isn't going to change that... Let me reword that, if you take footage of dog shit with a DSLR... It's still going to be dog shit with a RED camera... It's not going automatically look like a painting of the Mona Lisa. If you want Mona Lisa, you figure out how to paint well... Which takes time and effort. Now, remember Carrion... Some people were complaining here (on eosHD) that with big production, you can do anything... or something to that effect. If you can't do that... even with a DSLR and a couple of lights (cause I can)... you have A LOT to learn... The only problem I would run into is location, model, dress and make-up... but even then I can fake that like no tomorrow.

Don't oversimplify what Wozniak did then with what is available now... If I told you to build a dog house now... You can do that in your garage, in the same respect if I told you to build a skyscraper, can you do that in your garage? Wozniak's computer was a dog house compared to the iPhone that I'm typing this on now.

You wouldn't want an affordable 70mm?

K... K... but not impressed by the email so far...
