What are you talking about? May be the company that creates Digital Bolex, but the name "Bolex" has been around way before they wanted to emulate it in digital form. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolex http://www.bolex.ch/NEW/index.php Besides, Digital Bolex were creating a super 16mm, global shutter, 2K, 12 bit color camera... something never been offered before... AND before their time. They were offering something new at the time that they launched the kickstarter... When was the D16 launched? When is this Craft cinema camera being launched? What is craft going to offer in HD or 4K that will be different from what is already on the market?
-
Here is the thing with HD and 4K, its been done already... show me something new. In fact, here is a kickstarter project that was successfully finished and is actually selling now: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1203955-REG/z_camera_e1cam3a701_e1_mini_4k_video.html and it costs $699... The sensor size has to be better than that to warrant $2899, not to mention high frame rates. In fact, sensor size and frame rates has to be better than a7sii to warrant $2899 from a relative unknown.

And what are your thoughts on a University education?
-
My prediction: I think that this may be the first year that blackmagic will not introduce a new camera...
-
For some reason, I found tombstone piledriver funnier... May be cause I'm a wrestling fan... May be cause Kaylee wrote it like that with the trademarks and everything. lol... I'm still laughing at the tombstone piledriver... It actually sounds like a camera or tool... Made me think of other stupid names like the RED 16K StoneCold Stunner

k... But what's Balrog level 19 Miniboss? And what does it have to do with Red User error?
-
Huh? Your thoughts are not organized in the above. Ursa, Red and Sony all in one paragraph, which one has the magenta thing? What's Balrog level 19 Miniboss?

I voted balance good equipment with post production. But I'm a hypocrite, as I put in a preorder for a Red Raven. And, I have my reasons... If you have to know what those reasons are... You can PM me. Get whatever equipment that makes you happy... And actually do something with it, instead of worrying about the specs... Most of us here are independent filmmakers, and we do it with what we can afford (not saying I can afford a RED, just know... My credit card balance will be huge... it's going to take some years and extra side work to pay it off... The upside....it's getting me into the RED ecosystem so that 10 years down the road... Top of the line BODY is the only thing I would need to get). Now I just want to point out, it's always the content that matters... One of these days... At least one of us will make it big... And when that happens.... There is no brand loyalty in the business... You rent or the company provides you with a camera.... Hopefully it's the best camera... You film what you want to film... Return the cam... Edit and submit for the masses.

Really? That bad? How is it compared to the video IQ of the t2i? Anyone can answer that, cause I'm really interested in the 70D.
-
I used it once, but now in retrospect... If I can do it all over again... I know that I would take a breath, take a little time to preplan and take a little time to set up. Ultimately, most the shots that needed touching up was all a rush job during the shoot. So, after the shoot, and it wasn't a rush job and you still see noise... then I guess you have to figure out whether it adds to the story by keep it, adding it or removing it.

What if you dial in a specific K value, is it wonky after that? Try this: Put it in manual, dial in a specific K value (lets say 3600, btw, can you do that with a Sony? I don't know, cause I don't own one), you don't change scenes, and the only thing you are doing is pressing record (on/off). Does the cast change from time to time after doing that? If so... wouldn't it be a software problem?

Please post pictures of people's face??? And, is this a video only problem? Cause I remember seeing someones picture of their pug/bulldog from the a7s/a7sii and it was very cinematic straight off the camera. Editted to add:

I can careless for either of the above pictures, in fact... since I haven't evaluated a Sony picture on my desktop, I can't tell how much truth there is from those complaining about color. The one thing that the Sony alpha 7 cameras concurrently has a problem with is skin tone, well.... at least thats what I hear and thats what keeps me away from them... and I keep hearing the same thing, its always this "slimey, plasticky, greeny yellow" look. Again, I don't know how much truth is behind it nor do I know how much of it they corrected in the mark 2s. Then again, I don't really pixel peep on my computer either. However, if I blew it up on a projector, which I do from time to time, to show my work to my clients... I don't want to hear that the people look "slimey, plasticky, greeny yellow."

Rogue One Trailer - Alexa 65 and Panavision 70mm lenses
mkabi replied to AaronChicago's topic in Cameras
I'm guessing that this has nothing to do with Star Wars episode 8? Nonetheless... The franchise is bringing in some big names... Idi Amin, Sifu Ip Man and Gandalf. -
O.K. I've learnt my two words for the day.
-
I get where they are going with that, but how do you carry that without being part of the footage. I thought that they could use a jib/crane, but that crane and operator immediately becomes part of the footage.
-
Nope, but it does touch focus as long as EF lenses are used. Okay, see... focus peaking is for people that do manual focus (I know this, you know this, everyone on this forum knows this). And, for whatever creative purpose manual focusing is needed, which is a lot I know... but Canon believes in its focusing system. They believe that their auto-focus will replace manual focus. Why need a focus puller, when you can touch the bloody touch screen and its in focus. You want rack focus at a speed that you want, you set it in-camera (i.e. speed of focus), and then frame the shot, press record and touch the screen again... magic... blah blah blah... yada.. yada... yada...

The weight of the Red weapon is same as the BMCC??
-
Definitely worth its weight in gold... Apparently the Terra 5K can record 5K in ProRes too, but I'd like to know... What kinds of frame rates can it record in ProRes?
-
If it's the same size as a 5D3, it's going to be one chunky block. Nonetheless... What's the sensor size? And, what kind of mount is that? PL? Lastly, how much?
-
That kinda sucks... I own a couple of 7D Mark 2 and it outputs 1080/60p over HDMI. I guess you can't have it all.
-
Sorry, for reviving an old topic. I'm quite interested in the Red Raven. Just so that people are up to date. Sensor size has also increased? Its a 4.5K sensor with 1.62 crop factor? And, yeah it does 4.5K @ 120fps. 15:1 REDCode ratio. Perhaps someone can enlighten us about the compression? I mean you guys say its bad compared to a more useable 8:1 and lower, but what does that mean? Okay... for example... I did some research on the REDCode compression ratio and this is what I found: As you can see by the subtitles in the video it goes from 6:1 to 18:1.. I don't see much a difference, it gets a bit more brighter and the clouds may be get a little more mushier (but its really subjective)? But I cannot for the life of me see a difference, especially in the sign "GOODERHAM & WORTS limited" sign. So for the more experienced, please help me understand how the compression ratio degrades IQ???

Sorry, given that there are a few 1DC owners. I have to ask, how does external recording look, even if it is 1080p 8bit 4:2:2 on the 1DC. I'm hoping that someone that has a decent external recorder and a 1DC can show some sample footage. And, does it output 1080/60p externally? If so, how does that look compared to the "mushy 1080/60p" internal that looks like "upscaled 720/60p"

What guys? BTW, I want to see some finished kickstarter projects up and running like the FPS1000 and the SteadyFX

Obviously, we are hearing rumors that Canon is going to surprise us at NAB 2016. So I was wondering what other goodies are we expecting for this show? Blackmagic Cinema Camera Mark 2??? Pocket Cinema Camera Mark 2??? Smaller more affordable Atomos with DCI 4K recording? BTW, the only thing I see Canon announcing is the C500 Mark 2. What are the chances that a 5D mark 4 will be announced?
