You can fast forward to 18:43 for the video review, still a pre-production model though:

*Applauds* This isn't bad, not bad at all. 5.5K RAW at 60fps - damn. And, internal? Only 5.5K at 30fps & cropped DCI 4K at 60fps with DPAF.... come on... could be worse, right? I think its a true successor to the 1DC - given all the above comes with C-Log this time.
-
I would actually keep it as is.... remove the wires and find screw on caps on both sides.
-
So.... no XH2 or discontinuing the XH3 after XH2???
-
I wish I can help, because that upscaling feature is built into their 8K TVs... but in general, I would like to know the results of upscaling normally.
-
Normally, I wouldn't recommend upscaling 480p to anything beyond 1080p, but this Samsung AI samples are showing some interesting results. Try it out and tell us what you think? Speaking of which... @KnightsFan have you tried that experiment with your NX1?
-
I'd actually do a couple of test runs to see what works and what doesn't.... obviously the event isn't tonight right? If it is tonight, then well... can't do any test runs. But if its in a week from now, I would go back to the tap, see what works and what doesn't work every night till then... I mean.... you don't have to waste your entire night doing it, just bring your XT3 (its small and fairly covert)... do about 30 min. to an hour every night, try different angles, certain places have more light than others, bring external lights if you can. See what works and what doesn't and exploit the hell out of what works on the actual night. Good luck.

Try upscaling a 1080/60p to 4K/24p then compare to native 4K/24p... both from XT3 and share results
-
So you’re saying that you see a difference between say a 4K Blu-Ray DVD (upscaled by studio from original 2K source) and the 4K from your XT3?? Given the same bit-rate?
-
I don't know how to approach this subject, because there are so many things running in my mind right now (especially with regards to the subject). Okay, who can tell the difference???? The difference between Native resolutions and an Upscaled resolutions... And, it depends on the original source right? Okay, obviously the difference between 720p and 1080p is huge, at least to me it is.... and if you are upscaling from 720p to 4K, its going to look worse than 1080p to 4K. And, if you've ever seen the difference between 1080p & 2.5K or 2.7K.... the jump seems higher. But then the difference between 2.5K & 4K doesn't seem that big to me, so may be upscaling from 2.5K doesn't sound so bad to me. Even the frame rate makes a difference, 1080 @ 24p is less attractive upscaled to 4K versus 1080 @ 60p. And, if you go to 8K, obviously you can tell the difference if you upscale from 1080p, or can you??? Never tried it, but then again... I've seen samples. Enter AI based Upscaling (samsung and lg are calling it AI based, but sony is calling it something else). https://www.cnet.com/news/can-samsungs-ai-upscaling-really-make-tv-images-better/ What do you think? At this point, if you got an 8K TV, that has this upscaling feature, would you even care about the native resolution coming in? As long as the image that you see on the 8K TV isn't pixelated and the display is 8K so what you are watching is technically 8K. Just as an added thought, most of the 4K movies that are available as 4K bluray discs are upscaled from 2K. Also, to add more wood to the fire, Canon has been doing it for so long, and yet.... people are still smitten over the stuff coming out of a 1DC.

Panasonic S1H review / hands-on - a true 6K full frame cinema camera
mkabi replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I guess thats the direction of progress... if you enjoy stuff of old, then thats that.... content will always supercede resolution though. You know what it is.... you have a television that you are comfortable with right now, and I am assuming that it is 1080p. And, I'm sure that television will work for another 10 years (give or take), but what if it broke down today/tomorrow? Have you checked out your local electronic store for TVs lately? For every 10 4K TVs, I probably see 1 1080p TV.... funny thing is.... I've spotted 2 8K TVs at my local electronic chain so fast forward 10 years, you will see 10 8K TVs for every 1 4K TV - 1080p is obsolete - are you going to complain then "Whats wrong with HD?" -
lol... I was telling my wife this the other day... I miss the old TGIF line up.... and if I want to watch anything in terms of re-runs or binge watch on Netflix is probably stuff like Family Matters and/or Step-by-Step. Or revive those shows like they did Fuller House and Roseanne.

Saw the movie yesterday. Its good, but a bit long... and I still feel the same way, some people are going to come out of it thinking - "I've had it rough too, I've been bullied too, I've been abused as a child too, so lets go shoot up a place." I guess its very much like this: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2013/jun/24/jim-carrey-violence-kick-ass-2-sandy-hook Anyway, the movie theatre I went to see it at, had some kids with full face paint like the Joker, I was like isn't it a bit early for Halloween???

Scorsese compared MCU to modern theme park. What is your angle on it?
mkabi replied to heart0less's topic in Cameras
Same here. The grim realities of life... I used to work at a nursing home, people would die on me atleast once a month, the most I've experienced is 3 times a week, others would bitch at me, upper management would yell at me for some shit, the elderly would yell at me for some other shit... Escapism it is!!! ? But, I don't own the whole set, some of the first ones for sure... Each to his/her own.... everyone has different tastes, I like hip hop, RnB and pop music; if you're into alternative, rock, techno, house, trap, country, who am I to judge??? -
Isn't that how comedians feel nowadays anyway? And, how is it any different if I say "All Niggers and Faggots should be shot" <- full on racist and hate speech, but I should be free to express via freedom of speech laws, and lets just say its my form of art (NOT!). And, if anyone isn't appalled by that... may be you really feel that way.... in any case, I have to ask, where do you draw the line??? Lets do that... not that I disagree with you guys, but I sort of sympathize with the concerned parent... you know what I mean... And yet, at the same time, I hate how the world is developing, when I was growing up, I stayed at my home without supervision, went outside and to the park without supervision, now look at it... I have to literally watch my kids (like a hawk) do some boring a$$ shit while they dump sand in their own hair. And, I have to do that till they are 12 years old, same with fucken car seats, they have to fucken use those things till they are 12 too. Airbags are suppose to save lives right? But it will put you in a coma first, or kill your kids if they are in the front seat, not to mention that if any number of them is deployed, your car is deemed totaled. You know, as parents we are not allowed to send juice boxes to school.... what the fuck???? That shit was a staple when I was growing up..... I haven't turned out so bad, have I??? Also, kids can't spend too much time in front of the TV or ipad, or you've all of a sudden become bad parents.... I can literally say that my parents were the remote and TV, I have 3 fucken degrees (not that it matters) to my name and a pretty decent full time job (in any case, I feel like I'm a normal contributing member of society), young parents nowadays are forgetting the good things they grew up with and going by a text book written by a text book nerd. Sorry if I'm ranting... You would think so... but then you come across this crazy a$$ shit: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/masked-hero-bromley-batman-saves-10731855 https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/real-life-superheroes-transform-masked-5313086 https://www.shortlist.com/news/londons-got-a-superhero-and-hes-called-the-shadow https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real-life_superhero And, if that crazy a$$ shit is going on, how long before an equal and opposite reaction starts happening?

This is the problem. And, this is the problem that most people are worried about... From an art perspective, its great... but for the "some" who can't dissociate a movie from reality... It becomes a bigger problem right? Again, for you and me that don't associate with those "some that can be fooled all the time," this movie is going to be great, I'm definitely going to check it out sometime this weekend if time permits. But, those "some that can be fooled all the time" are going to go see this movie and think its okay to go around killing a bunch of people. However small this hypothetical situation is, all it really takes is 1 person to hurt the many - e.g. strap a bomb to his chest and run into corporate building (boom!).

Depends on what I am filming... On normal shoots (everyday shoots), a standard zoom (24-70 or 24-105 [FF equivalent]) + portrait (85 or 135 [FF equivalent]) lens is more than enough... On family trips or vacations (if its local) a standard zoom and/or phone is enough; sometimes I just want to enjoy the moment with the family - I can't be spending my time, switching lenses, adjusting exposure and framing/composing.... I actually believe that I am part of the family, not a bring along videographer/photographer.... but if its a once in a lifetime trip abroad... then I will bring the above setup (standard zoom + portrait). Now, planned shoots.... depends.... the shot list will tell you.... but typically a wide prime 25mm or lower (FF equivalent), one portrait and a macro (60mm or 100mm [FF equivalent]).

Start small....

If you get a chance, to do something like this again or something similar. Can you do a test.... i.e. have people like even 4 to 6 other people in the room, they can just be crew (behind the scenes i.e. people without any actual screen time), see if that changes the ambience and/or volume. You can even over-ride the actual ambient noise with fake ambient noise. Also, share the results, cause I need to know as I am curious too (cc me or try to grab my attention with @[my name]). I have a feeling it makes a difference... For example, my wife and kids were watching Cinderella (the live action one from 2015) and they happened to be watching the BTS.... they said that during the ball sequence, they had 500 extras... I thought it was excessive given that not all 500 extras would actually be shown in any particular shot. All 500 people had an additional 500 makeup artists and choreographers.... well you get the point. They could've gotten away with 100 or 200 people... But, now that I think about it, I have a feeling that those 500 people had to be there for the ambience of that scene - to sell that scene for what it is....
-
Definitely a good short (dialogue isn't cliche), but something about the actual speed dating at the bar felt fake. It felt like the bar was empty and it was just them two (+ camera man) with added fake ambient noise. In terms of crew, other than the camera man, how many people were there?

My dream kit..... hmmmm.... An XH3 with the same specs as the Z Cam F6, but it doesn't have to have FF sensor in it. May be the Orion 40mm & 80mm.... I know.... I know.... if money wasn't an issue and I could get anything from an Arri Cam + Arri Anamorphics.... I would still get the above for personal use. I guess if money wasn't an issue, I would actually start more of my passion projects and hire a crew and rent equipment.

How many sales are Canon losing from enthusiasts due to video shenanigans?
mkabi replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
And, I've said this before in another thread (changed for the above argument): Here is the problem with that argument, and many people have made that same argument.... in one version or another. So you are are saying Canon has "done their market research, they will know what their customers are doing" and the end product of all that research is to exclude 24p The problem with that statement is that companies like Sony, Panasonic, Fuji, Blackmagic also have market research teams and pros telling them what the people want.... why is it that they include 24p??? See the thing is.... Sony, Panasonic, Fuji, Blackmagic, etc. are not even number 1 in this segment.... so that doesn't mean that they don't know what they are doing or don't know how to be number 1, its more along the lines that they should be more hungry to be number 1 and they will do anything to get to number 1, hence they will include 24p.
