I don't know... Am not really sure why people expect so much from Canon? How many times do you have to get rained on before you bring an umbrella? I mean... They have outright said they are delineating their camera lines. They have outright said their issue with 4K was solving the overheating issues. But one thing is for sure, when they do have all the bells and whistles that Sony cameras have... They will work.

I can't say that I'm an expert, but I do have a slight background in it...
The simple answer is there is no loss in quality...
From what I've learned, XLRs give you more options in terms of mics (and their pick-up patterns).
BUT, understand that just cause you have more mics to choose from with XLRs, does not mean you should be... some need phantom power, and I do not think the DSLR outputs that through their jacks, in fact... does any of the zoom line recorders have phantom power? Because, you need power or extra juice to power condenser mics and that might drain the battery.
Otherwise, 3.5mm or XLR, both have the same sound feed.

Reds are plenty sharp enough for me. There's no sharpening applied to the raw, you can select sharpening in standard red debayer which isn't great, or apply your own.
Consumer cams use a ton in camera and compress the shit out of the data. Sharpening is part of trying to get detail back from a bayer array.
Here's a short test. I was going for Emmanuel Lubezski plus cats LOLOLOL!!!1one!!1!
1st shot 4K 25fps, 2nd shot 2K 50fps. So yes the second shot is cropped in. It's not that noisy, certainly not unmanagable at ISO800 here.
I think it was 60mm Macro

Yeap! Future-proof is an interesting concept. The Godfather was filmed on "old" technology. I will watch that 40 years from now.
Actually, shooting analog film is probably your best bet for future proof. The film scanning tech keeps getting better, you can scan super 8 into 4k raw now! :D

To be fair, all Red cams are soft (even the 8K weapons). But they are purposefully done that way?
There is no incamera sharpening and no incamera noise reduction.
Redcode is RAW. At which point everything is done in post. I think what people get really excited about when dealing with RAW is the white balance sliders and ISO adjustment... Etc.

mkabi reacted to DBounce in Canon 1DX Mkii vs Sony A7Rii
I'll agree with some effort and careful grading you can get them reasonably close. I guess my point is that many were stating that the A7Rii/Sii were superior in various aspects. In practice I am simply not seeing this to be true. Of the two cameras the 1DX Mkii is in a different league than the Sonys. It is more reasonable image wise to compare this camera to the FS7, but of course the two are completely different animals. One being a dedicated Video camera, the other a hybrid. There are benefits of having built in NDs, XLRs, etc... For my purpose I wanted something more discreet. I can take the 1DX Mkii anywhere and no one bats an eye. However you will need permits and planning with the FS7. But they are both great cameras.
The next camera on my radar is the Terra 6k and 5k, but I will need to see more footage. And honestly, I would prefer to buy it locally from one of the well established retailers... with are reasonable return policy, just  in case it doesn't live up to expectations. The 1DX Mkii is rugged, and that combined with great image quality earn it a long-term place in my kit. Not sure what I will do with the Sony now? It's not an ideal B-cam to the Canon.

With the C100 Mk III expected not soon after (according to schedule of previous model releases), I do not expect the 5D IV to have anything other than the addition of 4K at 24/25/30fps and PDAF for video shooters.
I expect the next C100 to only add 4K and a slightly higher bitrate, as to not ruin the C300 II (which according to my rental house is not in demand at all because of the FS7).
This sounds negative against Canon, but the fact of the matter is that their models work better than other brands at standard frame rates and overall usability. You can absolutely rely on C-series cameras for that reason.
A good comparison is the RX10II vs the XC10. The specs on the Sony are monstrous but in reality, it's a terrible camera for video. Very overpromised. It's unreliable and is awful to use due to nasty focusing. The XC10 specs don't look great, but as a video camera it works much better. It's a decent B cam for the bigger models.
Anyway, while we all waste time debating what Canon isn't doing and all that fuzz, let's look to the models that work today, which are perfectly fine for many of our needs.

    No. No. No.
Its mainly this, with some minor corrections:

    +1
I don't know when they started thinking this way. They added 1080p from 5D2 all the way to the rebel...
They had 4K and the cinema line since 2012, since then... only the price of the 1DC just kept dropping, from what? $15000 to $7999? Now, instead of introducing a new DSLR altogether... lets add few features here, take away a few features there, call it a 1DX2 and price it at $5999, perfect! Now the 4K crowd can't complain. Might as well price the 1DC there and call it a day. EDITTED to add: do they even have a R&D or research analysis department?
But lets see... who knows right????
    NICE!
Soon I will be right there too. Only different cams.

Please canon don't give us 4k, it will overheat and the rolling shutter issues will ruin your reputation. Instead give us 10 bit 422 at 2.5k with a good sensor readout (3ms), in different codec flavours with different storages rates. It would be nice to have the possibility to record to hevc 10 bit 422 and also pro res 10 bit 422 HQ. The rest you already do right.

Calm down buddy. Its the internet...
If you can't handle criticism, I suggest you keep quiet and never interact with anyone online. In fact, you were pretty critical with a smile, "I playfully and humoursly and accuratly shot down your Idea." I've fired people with a smile... does it make the blow easier for the person getting fired?
If I sounded defensive, I'm sorry... I'm sorry if I didn't sound jovial, add emoticons or add words like "ha ha"
But, in my defense (oh no, I used that word) I did have "lol" in my last post... not enough?
I'm sorry if you thought that I was belittling you... you aren't dumb...
Again, I wasn't clear enough... I said "VR in general, not specifically 360 degree ...is about emmersing yourself in the experience."
But I also said, "Suppose it is a bedroom, and you have a multiple partner fantasy... Suppose you're a girl using VR porn...
    Use your imagination..."
May be I should have left a big space to say its a contradicting statement and possibly include the following statement, [Then again, there is a place for 360VR porn such as]
Ok fine, my fault.... but to be honest though.... (No emotion here, totally stoic) I don't agree, that "360 degree vr porn would be useless."
    My reason:
From a business point of view... porn isn't just for heterosexual men anymore. Well, there is obviously a whole faction of gay porn.
Not to mention... what... 60% of the population are women... and some of them are lonely and/or horny women that watch porn.
If I was in the business of making porn, VR porn or 360 VR Porn... I would make something that will make the most money, hence make 1 video that is beneficial in terms satisfying everyone's fantasy.
    Now for light hearted humor:
Here is something with a smile, I'm humorously and jovially saying "fuck off!"
    Wait for it.... Hahahahahahaha!
Not enough? LOL and LMAO... over and out.

mkabi reacted to Raafi Rivero in Feedback on Work
With a client I make sure to specify in the contract how many rounds of notes there will be. Two is typical, some may ask for three. And for lower-budget projects we'll get it in writing that there will only be one round. It helps to make sure that when the client is giving you notes they actually have something to say, or that there's someone on the client side responsible for making sure that everyone who's supposed to weigh in does weigh in, and that person collates the notes more effectively. It is also good leverage to have it specified in a contract so that, for instance, each additional round of notes costs X, or each day of work on additional rounds costs X amount. Without having that break, some clients will go overboard asking for "little" changes again and again. You want to make sure that with notes they're really serious or their willing to pay to go over. It doesn't have to feel draconian. Sometimes a gentle reminder in the process can help prod the client to be focused, "we only have one more round of notes specified in the contract, so please make sure everyone has seen or weighed in." Specifying the number of rounds of notes also helps you bid, budget, and schedule jobs more effectively.
With feedback on creative projects it is crucial to cultivate a group of people and/or collaborators whose taste you trust. Online, you never know what some bozo is going to say, especially if they have no connection to you or the project. Online feedback tends to be more negative, and people rarely balance positive feedback with negative as people who know you will tend to do. That said, you also don't want to only share the work with friends who will only tell you good things. That kind of echo chamber can be equally limiting.
You should have specific points in the process where you're looking for feedback. After a polished first draft of a script, say, after a few more drafts. After a rough cut, etc. Sometimes, especially with personal projects, you're not always at a stage when feedback is necessary or useful. Be sure that you're confident that you're not wasting your (or the other person's) time when soliciting feedback. Like, you really just wanted someone to tell you that it's awesome and weren't really looking for notes. Sometime's it's even helpful to have a questionnaire: what did you think of this character? is the turkey joke working? what did you think of the end?, etc. so that you're targeting the feedback to areas of the project you're worried about or looking to improve.
Again, I think the key is to cultivate a group of people with differing viewpoints, whose taste (and work) you trust to give feedback. It might not always be the same group for each project. Or for whatever stage you are in the project. But getting the right kind of feedback, at the right points in the process is essential to honing your ideas.
