Short video using EOSHD cinema Z-Log with the Z--6--all hand held using Canon FD and Rokinon lenses. Hand graded in FCPX. I've not yet compared the EOSHD dynamic range with N-Log, but without a doubt EOSHD Z-Log decidedly yields MUCH more dynamic range than any in-camera profile Nikon provides---and it grades quite well. If you can't shoot 10 bit ,and need a wide dynamic range, on the Z6 then, IMO, the EOSHD Log profiles are the way to go.

I'm sorry if this question has already been answered, but I've not been able to find it. Does anyone know what type and brand of adapters are needed to mount FD, EF (Rokinon), Nikon MF lenses to the new S1?

I agree with one caveat: Northrup does influence a LOT of people. I really think his errors, misconceptions, and and omissions ought to be pointed out and explained. But attacking him personally, justified or not, can easily look like sour grapes and pettiness. Stick with the objective content of his commentary and you'll be fine and end up looking good. Will you look as good as Chelsea? Probably not---but still...

When I put the camera in photo mode I see the exposure meter on the right side of the screen. Fine. When I put the camera in video mode the exposure meter vanishes. WTF! No other camera manufacturer does this: Sony, Panasonic, Fuji, Canon, Olympus, etc: when you set the camera in video mode you retain the exposure meter--it's very important. Is there a menu setting that will correct the case of the vanishing exposure meter?

Nomenclature makes me crazy---highlight is a class of exposure, Zebras for video are the measure of exposure. But I have one more question. I have a question about a setting for ISO on the Z6. On the default setting for ISO when you depress the ISO button to adjust ISO level on the back wheel you must keep the ISO button depressed while you make the adjustment. Awkward. I understand there is a menu setting that will enable you adjust the back wheel without the necessity of keeping the ISO button depressed while doing so. With that setting you can toggle the ISO function on and off. Anyone know where it is in the menu?

I wonder if there are any Nikon Z6 video shooters who are on Facebook and would be interested in joining a FB Nikon Z6 video shooters FB page? At this point there is none. I was on one of the Nikon Z shooters FB page and simply asked if anyone who shoots video would be interested in starting a Nikon Z6 video discussion group---and for simply asking that question I got immediately kicked off the FB page---apparently a certain ilk of Nikon shooters are hostile to video shooters.

thank you so much for your link and comments. Good advise. I don't disagree with your assessment of the situation. It will take a lot for me to move off the Nikon. The more I shoot it the better I like it. What would cause me to switch? Certainly not 10 bit. Most of my stuff is YouTube videos---I just don't need 10 bit 97% of the time. If the Panasonic's IQ and color are pretty much the equivalent of the Nikon (that a remains to be seen---especially with skin tones) and Nikon does not improve the things I mentioned in my Z6 review and the S1 provides the shooting features similar to the GH5 I might seriously consider switching. Not being able to punch in to check focus while recording, not having zebras and peaking simultaneously, etc make shooting 3rd party, hand held MF unnecessarily difficult. Presently, IMO the Fuji X-H1 does it best---wonderful fun to shoot. I just wish the IBIS was as good as the Nikon, but, alas, its not where I would like it.

I'm assuming that was on the Nikon site??!? Don't recall the exchange. I do note as a video guy I did not feel well received on the Nikon FB pages. Very different kind of folk from those on the Fuji pages. I actually got IMMEDIATELY kicked off one Nikon site when, after saying how good the Nikon was for video, I asked if any one would be interested in starting or joining a Nikon for Videographers FB page. Mind you, I had just joined that page and wasn't trying to "steal" any members. I just wanted to find others who shot the Nikon and liked video.

Bought them for me...that would have been nice. But let me ask, who gives a disapproval with a down arrow? Thumbs down, a frownie face, etc. But a friggin' down arrow!?! I just thought it meant to tell the writer that I was making a comment below. Looking over the whole meager number of emoji--- they're a pretty pathetic set of "expressions." Still on the fence regarding whether I will consider buying the S1. Part of it is because I'm pretty damned happy with the Z6, and other part is I'm not quite sure if I can get the adapters I need for my third party lenses, and the finally, I'm not altogether sure the IBIS of the S1 will be as good as the Z6. Personally, I'm really impressed with how well Nikon has done the IBIS---IMO it's better than the Sony A7III.

I was surprised at how well it took some pretty extensive grading---pretty robust, and not even a hint of banding.And I got it now, the down arrow is not saying you are making an additional comment "below"--it's a disapproval. That's just freaking confusing. I've never seen that before. How about "thumb's up" or "thumbs down?" or just a choice of emojis?? "What we have here is a failure to communicate."

I didn't laugh at your post. I was trying to say thanks, that what you said pleased me and I was grateful you took the time to see and comment on my video. Unfortunately, there are damned few emojis you have to choose from. You know, I didn't make any comment on Snowbro's comment that I recall. If I indicated anything is was thanks. I can't explain why you got these emojis. It's bizarre. I didn't do any of these things. Has someone hacked my account? What little I commented was thanks for taking the time to see and comment. Is this some kind of sick joke? I submit my work for constructive criticism, and sometimes to present something that I hope might help someone get an idea of how a certain product performs. I just published a review of the Z6 for that very purpose a few weeks ago. Why? Because when I'm thinking about buying a particular product I search for reviews and VIDEO. I certainly don't publish videos to insult people who are kind enough to comment, whether negatively or positively. I always love any kind of comments that will help me correct errors and improve my work. And it makes me sad that you jump the gun and assume the worst before I get any kind of change to respond. Sad commentary on our society and culture nowadays.

One small suggestion to help not get ripped off by Canon yet again: don't buy their shit! I haven't and I'm pretty happy with my Fuji X-H1/X-T3, and Nikon Z6---very happy, indeed.

Shot this mood piece to show a bit of Nikon's low-light capabilities in video. No use of noise reduction at all, so doing so should get you some super clean video with not a lot of trouble---IF your lenses are fast enough in certain circumstances. Also, you can get an idea of how well 420/8bit video grades--I did some fairly extreme things to get the looks I wanted.

Andrew, I'm assuming that there are pre-existing L-mount adapters for manual lenses, like the FD, Nikon, and other older lenses. Is that a good assumption? Or will this camera require an entirely new L mount adapter for pre-existing fully manual lenses?

Yes, I have FD to Z mount, as well as M42, M39, and Ef to Z mount----the operative words in my question were "throttle ND." I have throttle NDs that mount EF and FD to Fuji X mount. That's a real treat because you don't have to fool with those stupid variable ND filters of different sizes--make me crazy! The throttle filter adapters work great. I"m hoping someone will make EF and FD throttles for the z mount so I don't have to drag around all those variable NDs to match each lens. Can't wait for someone to do make them, at least for the FD/EF to Z mount.

Forget about Sony with their $$$$ heavy lenses. How about an FD to Z mount adapter with throttle ND filter! How about an EF (for Rokinon) to Z mount adapter with throttle ND filter?!?

It was all done manual focus, with no sharpening added in post. Fuji--not only sharp and colorful, it also has kick-ass peaking for focus assist. Sooooo much fun to shoot.
