  1. That is good and might be able to reduce camera crew for smaller budget films.
  2. I see in this video focusing camera via ipad. How is this possible? Do you need a transmitter of some sort and is there a lag? I read that this camera's af is good for fast moving objects, how will it be for blocking actor's in contrasty lit scenes both med and wide shots when they might be moving in and out of frame on all axis and also turning around? Also, how is the focus from one object to another when both are in motion? I imagine it is fine for closeups and med closeups? I guess I'm asking if this af has advanced enough to use in a narrative scene. What do you think? Thank you for sharing all your knowledge on this camera. It is appreciated.
  3. That's too bad. I think the gh4 has shutter by degrees and also some kind of anti-flckr scanning. It's disappointing a $6000 dslr with 4k 60fps doesn't have features like this.
  4. Does anyone know if you can set on the 1dx mark ii the shutter at 180 degrees (1/48 for 24fps)?
  5. I showed my friend a Korean editor some footage online of the ursa mini 4.6k and she said, "Why is there so much magenta?" She has edited Kim Ki Duk's as well as big Korean studio films. She can give two ducks about her name or bmd's reputation. In fact she doesn't even know who they are. At least, now I know I'm not going crazy reading this thread. People arguing about everything but the image. Again, go look at the videos people are uploading, there are many great images but there are also many shots where magenta is polluting them.
  6. Yeah I hope they didn't because that's a shitty thing to do. But even decent people make bad choices under incredible pressure and these days there is no worse pressure than the almighty dollar. Still from looking at what they were facing in terms of delays and having very early adopters notice the issue you can't help but be skeptical. I hope they the do the right thing to the customers who believed in them blindly and either fix their cameras or replace them.
  7. Go to youtube or vimeo and look at some of the latest uploads and you tell me if you dont see magenta pollution all over the image in some shots. Even the videos saying there is no magenta problem you can see it in the skin or highlights. Also having an opinion is not a smear campaign. You are paranoid for no reason. I think some of the images are terrific but some are still marred by this issue. What's even sadder is owners who are showing the problem in their own videos saying their cameras are fine. The cognitive dissonance is like an example of the problems with hype and fanboyism in modern culture
  8. There is something off on the 4.6k image with this magenta issue even in the latest videos. I see it pop up on various shots on so many videos and it's not just the overall cast or magenta corners. It's in the way the camera handles highlights in some shots as well as edges. It might have more dynamic range but these issues make the 4k ursa look better overall.

  10. No mention for IBIS for g80 or gh5. gx85 users are trumpeting it on their cameras. Maybe they left it off because of the heat and also to keep users on their lenses? Is that a possibility?
  11. I think they changed the specs and most hfr on the 5k is cropped down to m43 for 4k
  12. I talked to my dp who shoots korean studio films regularly, and he said he could use the camera since he probably won't go past 5.6. But this is for a narrative project. If you are filming landscapes, architecture, real estate, or for scientific purposes I can see the need to stopping down past 5.6/8. Still, I think it's messed up if this issue was known by bmd and prerelease reviewers but swept under the rug to get it out there and see how it plays out by keeping quiet as long as possible. If you read through the magenta thread in balckmagic's forum an early adopter was being attacked for identifying this issue very early on, even pointing it out on some prerelease footage. I find it hard to believe that bmd was not aware of this developing the camera when a few users picked up on it right away on it's release. They're qc can't be that bad. If they knew, that's just shady. But hey in this day and age, screw integrity when a buck is a buck.
  13. I hope they can fix it with a firmware, because the camera does produce fantastic images for that price. It might not have the push/pull of arri exposure but image-wise it rivals it. The problem is that these smaller companies send their gear to these bloggers prerelease. Then you have all these 'professionals' hype it up, they don't want to piss off these companies who are giving them early access and a massive spotlight, so all their fans keep defending the gear even as problems slowly creep out of the shadows. It takes so much time and energy for the general user to fight off that fervor. I just don't see how they can fix it with lines of code when the problem effects each camera differently, some have stronger magenta corners than others. BMD knows what the problem is. They probably knew before the release, and it was probably one of the reasons why the long delay besides the failed global shutter. The customers who are buying the camera and using it already either don't care they are cutoff at f8 on certain focal lengths or are content lying to themselves probably won't effect BMD's business, so they should do the right thing and just clear the air since its already taken them a year to admit that the problem does exist.
  14. The other cameras have an even color cast when the iso is bumped and saturation is pushed. The problem with the um 4.6k is that the color cast is uneven and gets worse in the corners.
  15. If you spend money on it and your welfare is tied to it then you're not going to go around complaining about how your tool has issues. I bought one of the first Red ones and remember even then people on reduser were overwhelmingly positive on the red cameras because they were financially invested in it. It's like everything else these days, everyone is marketing something including themselves. You can't really trust strangers and need to just test them yourself and share the footage online if you can. Everything else take with a grain of salt.
  16. Are you bmds owners mom or something? Haha why are you so angry about people discussing something? Go look up what censorship means.
  17. Yeah i was thinking of picking it up used or asking the reseller to test if before sending it over. Some of the images look fantastic for any price. Thanks for the info
  18. That's good to hear. Did you buy it before July? I'm interested in the camera but dont want to deal with korean resellers if there is an issue. I see ursa 4.6k already on the used market here. There's two issues. The asymmetric is not so easily solved. Bmd said they will address it by firmware and users are now waiting.
  19. Some users are saying every camera is effected to varying degrees but i guess only bmd will know. Are you a moderator here and there? Just move my post then. This thread is about the quality of ursa mini and the magenta problem has been a well known issue since prerelease cameras were out on the field. And those two threads are two of the biggest threads on those sites. How about this since you're the expert. Take your ursa 4.6 and shoot a white surface above 5.6 and share it with us.
  20. $3000 price drop, now $6999 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/855975-REG/Canon_EOS_C500_Cinema_EOS.html
  21. ursa mini 4.6k? Plenty of examples in these threads: https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=47333 http://bmcuser.com/showthread.php?16812-4-6k-Ursa-Mini-magenta-issues red? have no idea.
  22. I don't know if this is what happened, but I can't imagine bmd was not aware of the magenta issue (both symmetric and asymmetric) effecting maybe all um 4.6k sensors to varying degreess before the release of the camera. They probably released the camera anyway because of whatever internal and external pressures. Now it's luck of the draw for their customers how bad this problem rears its head on their cameras. Now all cameras have their issues but this seems pretty bad and also bad form for bmd as they continue to address it with a lot of secrecy when it's such a known fact. https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=47333&start=2000
