Ahh come on Andrew! I made the switch to FCPX the day it came out and haven't looked back since. Its light years faster on slower Macs compared to Premiere and once you learn the workflow, I find it so much more intuitive. Im a huge fan of this program and it's put food on my table for over eight years now and Apple hasn't charged me a penny more than that initial $299 EIGHT FREAKING YEARS AGO! You hit that price in 6 months on Adobe. I have been Adobe"less" for a while now and love using Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo. I also use Apple Motion for my graphics work. I made this VFX 3d heavy music video all on my base model $900 MacBook Air using Apple Motion 5 and FCPX. Would have been impossible using Adobe with their flawed CUDA crap. Adobe basically just wants everyone on PC's. I understand your frustrations, but it took me a solid 3-4 months to re learn how to edit. Im grateful I did. Apple FCPX is seriously lightning fast compared to Premiere. I couldn't live with that.

I know without a doubt the IQ on this camera will be better than Sony in my opinion. Sony is sticking to their guns with their color science for the most part, and it just doesn't excite me. Even though the a7Riii is such a wonderful camera. I wonder if they will be able to fit 4k at 60fps on this camera? Probably not..

If there’s already an X-H1 thread let me know. I did a quick search and didn’t see one. I for one am really excited about this camera. Here are the rumored specs from Fujirumors: -Better AF than XT2 -IBIS that can work with OIS as well for dual IS. -Same sensor as XT2 with same slight crop on the sensor in 4K -Internal F-Log -Phase Detect AF in video! (Hopefully with face tracking enabled in 4K!) -Top LCD -Internal 8bit 4:2:0 4K -Headphone Jack in body instead of on grip. February 15th IBIS alone is enough reason to get me excited about this camera. Not to mention the incredible color science and phase detect AF!! And all the incredible native lenses too. Really awesome. What do you guys think?

Olympus new, compact and affordable 4K camera

4K if you like 15fps! Lol -
@kidzrevil Oh gosh Id have to dig through some old hard drives. I did a lot of work with the 50D raw as well...but those were fun times when ML was in their heyday. I promised myself 4 years ago that when I could afford it that I would buy the 1DC because I did a few projects with it when it came out and I fell in love with the image quality. I got asked to shot a doc in Mexico and Guatemala about two years ago and the budget set aside just for gear was more than enough to buy a used 1DC so I finally got my "dream camera" two years ago. I still shoot all my YT content with the 1DC...but I have been desperately avoiding switching to like a 1DX II or 5D IV because there are so many L's that I would take with the switch. Over the years I have shot Digital Bolex D16 a lot as well. IMO...the 1DC and the Digital Bolex are my favorite cameras to work with. They produce such consistently incredible results. Heres a film I shot all on the D16 and their Kish lenses and heres a music video I directed that was shot all on the 1DC At the end of the day, the only thing Im waiting to "upgrade" to at this point is RED DRAGON. I actually am a huge fan of the DRAGON sensor and feel like going R3D would be the only thing out there that would feel like a worthy upgrade for me with what I do. I just simply don't have the cash to make the switch at the moment, so for now....1DC it is...which isn't bad at all! By the way...I STRONGLY suggest you invest in either a kit of CONTAX ZEISS glass or Leica R's. The retro lenses take off that digital edge that you're fighting with the filters. The voigts are great though....but maybe you should try some retro glass. I have a 28, 35, 50, 85 CONTAX ZEISS kit and use them daily. (I need the 18 and then Ill be set)

Very quick try of Panasonic G9... It's nice, but...
Dave Maze replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
My G9 review is live. Really like the colors off the camera. No point for any of us really. No real advantage for video...the AF may be a tad faster...but nothing to write home about Shot on 1DC in 4k in Canon Log -
Looks sick bro. I remember shooting on the 5d3 with my old BMCC 2.5K and it was a dream setup. Keep it up bro

I believe it’s overheated on my once so it may be his copy. Ive used crop sensor lenses on it but it’s not worth it. 18-20 vignettes on the 18-35 I like having the ability to take full frame photos with it so i think it’s better to own full frame glass if you’re going to own the 1DC. the 24-35 would be best for it.
-
Im getting a GH5s to review soon. I will do some tests for ya!
-
If I had the money I would own a 1DX II and a 1DC with a full kit of full frame Sigma ART glass. Seems like the best combo.
-
I had a hot pixel on it then it magicially went away. Idk what the deal is there

I use the 1DC on a daily basis and switch between the 4K and super35 modes according to what I’m doing. The super35 mode is like having a C100 with better low light (except you can’t mount most EF-s lenses on it!) the 4K mode is to die for. It’s been so hard for me to justify “upgrading” to anything else because when I shoot with a modern camera... it still pales in comparison. Even the 1DX II doesn’t do it justice because of log. Andrew makes a great C Log for it... but it’s still just not the same and even he would admit that I’m sure. I recently built out a rig that is the most balanced and amazing handheld rig I’ve ever built with it. Wooden camera DSLR cage, with handles and the smallhd focus. I convert all my footage I shoot in 4K to ProRes LT. It’s a pain but whatever. I don’t care. Edit Ready 2.0 is a great program for it, and I’d imagine on an iMac pro it would convert in no time. Even on my base model 13” MacBook Pro it doesn’t really take that long. 1.3x is the only thing that drives me crazy to be honest. If it were true full frame a 24-105 would be all I’d carry around, but because it’s a weird crop and no lenses are designed for it... you kinda have to own a 16-35 AND a 24-70. I only use my Contax Zeiss glass on it and they pair perfectly. That nice vintage character paired with that milky smooth 4K canon log. It’s the best image quality I’ve ever had and I’m so happy about it still in 2018. I never want to part with it unless I become rich and buy a RED EPIC VV or Arri Alexa Mini. I don’t think the camera is impractical for handheld work or whatever. Just treat it like you would with a RED or Arri and it’s the same type of workflow.

This looks great! Thanks for sharing!

I shoot YouTube content on my 1DC almost every day and edit on a base model MacBook Pro 13” late 2016. I transcode all my footage to either 2k ProRes LT or 4K ProRes LT using EditReady 2.0. Sometimes I’ll also convert to proxy inside of fcpx if I’m doing 4K. Honestly, I need an iMac pro to handle the footage natively but the best thing about the 1DC (and MJPEG 4K Canons) is the 8bit 4:2:2. Footage from my 5 year old 1DC still looks better than a modern C200 8bit 4:2:0 .mp4 and has better low light too. You can even do AF lock on your face really easily for selfie shooting with that being said............... I’m still considering going to 1DX II for the dual pixel AF. It truly would make shooting myself a breeze. The codec sux on one hand because it’s massive and you need to convert it... but once you convert it to ProRes it truly is a dream when you look at the picture quality. Also, the perk with 1DC that 1DXii doesn’t have is the superb Super35 mode. Looks identical to C100 footage. It’s 8bit 4:2:0, but because it’s pulling straight off the sensor, it is super sharp and detailed unlike the 1080p full frame 1DX II image. Again, so so so stupid that NEW cameras like 5Div and 1DXii 1080p is still as soft as it was five years ago on the 5Diii internal. So so so stupid.

I have used the tascam one before and it has failed me multiple times. Not sure if its just the unit I was using...but we have had files totally corrupt..could be SD card too...but our Zoom H1's have always been tanks. I would choose this F1 over the tascam just on a brand perspective. I trust Zoom more.

Do the new MacBook Pros with the Cine 3 gamut display not do HDR? Theoretically, the MacBook Pro is fully equipped to handle the richer colors of HDR content.

Music Licensing - Paid Advertising - $$$$$?!?
Dave Maze replied to silvertonesx24's topic in Cameras
I use epidemic sound for music but the best and cheapest way to get music is to hire a producer to make a custom track for you. Go on SoundCloud and find an artist and reach out to them. I’ve hired producers to make custom songs for me and it’ll cost like $300-$700 a track. Real easy. Lmk if you need names. Living in Nashville helps -
Canon to make major mirrorless presentation in Feb
Dave Maze replied to Aussie Ash's topic in Cameras
Well obviously the thing we all want and hope to happen is a full frame M mount mirror-less with the option to also mount EF glass. Then they’d have a full line of lenses to choose from and maybe a new standard as well? I think it’d be a waste of space to put a true EF mount on a mirror less body because the amount of space needed to simulate where the mirror goes. -
The x4s will be perfect. Just light it well and you’ll be golden.

I’ll wait for that

I’m seeing Alexa classics going for $8k now. I’m still going to hold out but the Alexa is really the only camera that I’d “upgrade” my 1DC from.

Cool. Ya you can rent jibs really easy. Look around your local video rental places. If you’re in the USA Lensrentals.com has some Kessler jibs that I think would work.
-
Depends on your budget on all this. But this is how I would do it. - DJI Phantom 4 Pro at least (best IQ at affordable price) if you have more $$ then the inspire 2 with X7 is incredible. - 8 ft jib attach the drone to the jib and use the jib to get the move in the room. The drone will be turned on so the gimbal will be on, but you don’t need to use the blades. You can operate the camera from the app and use the jib to get repeatable motions. Then for the second shot use the drone like normal. Easy for the P4 Pro. Make sure you change the maximum altitude to maybe like 300 ft or something to get that huge move you want. By doing this you keep the image consistent between the indoor stuff and the exterior.
