No I haven’t tested raw yet. I’m not that interested in it unless I’m directing a bigger budget thing. But if it’s bigger budget, I’ll just rent Arri anyways lol
-
This is exactly what I was talking about. Great color science and features in such a small package. This camera really is a dream for YouTubers I think.
-
Thanks man. I think for my style of shooting the 1DX II suits my needs best. I’m considering selling my 1DC and getting the 1DX II with the money from that. I’ll be sad, but it’ll be a nice upgrade I think for me. Especially as a “YouTuber”. I need stills and I need video. I want the flexibility of having 4k and having a higher bit rate. I don’t want or need Log because for youtube I shoot everything baked in to save time. I also shoot handheld often so having minimal Rolling shutter is great.

@DBounce Thanks for your insight!

Finishing a commercial today that I shot on it! I still rent the bolex. My buddy has a full zeiss S16 lens set that goes with it. Love the image on that camera so so much. Are you still loving your 1DX II even with your GH5? What do you find yourself using most?
-
Lol! Good comparisons. Both cameras are the sports cars of cameras..
-
@EOSHD_Twitter has talked about both cameras quite a bit and I have recently become fascinated with the Leica SL for video. Obviously, the 1DX has the Dual Pixel AF, but has anyone had experience with the Leica SL autofocus? How does the internal 4k compare? The SL has a 10bit 4k out...They are both similar in price. Curious to know your thoughts. It seems that the SL was overpriced and overlooked pretty quickly in the video market...but that peaks my interest as the 1DC and digital bolex were also overlooked. I'm not sure if my interest in Leica SL is simply camera lust or not....probably lust.

@PannySVHS wouldn’t be my first S16 film!
-
@liork I hope not the same sensor! I have been saying for years now that the a7S sensor is incorrect. It's just wrong. It doesn't render colors correctly. @EOSHD_Twitter solved a lot of these issues with his color profiles, but the a7s sensor needs to be totally replaced. You can see that Sony noticed it with their newer a6300/6500 sensors having better color, along with the a9 having more accurate color.

@maxotics absolutely. It's not going to win awards at having the most cinematic images on the planet, but gosh darn it, it sure is a practical camera for what I do. These last two weeks, I have been shooting and editing at least two or three videos a day on youtube. Anything to help me move faster and have less hassle will help me so much.

Stabilization looks great and so does wide DR! Could be a really practical YouTube camera.

I just see this technology as an addition to gimbal work. Almost a safety net if your gimbal shot screws up. And that’s perfectly fine.
-
Of course! You don’t have to convince me about audio! Thanks for the recommendations. I’m thinking about picking up the RodeLink. RX0 II that will record 4k internal will be the one to get if this type of camera is something you need.
-
Thanks, Don! Really appreciate it! Ya...I was using the Rode Smartlav going into my phone. I recorded using the voice memos app, which automatically levels the gain. It was clipping quite a bit. I need to use a different app from now on.
-
Did an extensive comparison with RX0 and new GoPro Hero 6. Bottom line, I actually really like the RX0 now.
-
Yay! I partook in the clickbait! For what it's worth...I shot the video on my 1DC and used the "portrait" picture profile.
-
This is the only real advantage IMO. If youre shooting on a Gh5 or smaller camera...just get a handheld gimbal... But for EPIC's and Alexa's or even my 1DC/ 1DXII type cameras, having this would be easier to shoot with than having a big lunky gimbal to take everywhere
-
Very interesting indeed! I need to pick this up and give it a shot. Things to know about this thing though: You need to jack up your shutter speed to reduce motion blur. The footage can be stabilized..but obviously cant remove motion blur. It only takes GoPro Hero 3 batteries...(this is weird) You need mic jack input Still a bit in "beta". Not really a FINAL production item. However this is really exciting tech, and I imagine, some big company will buy them out and make an actual production unit that is more user friendly and realistic.

New EOSHD Pro Color 3.0 and EOSHD Pro LOG comes to Sony cameras
Dave Maze replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Did a quick review of the RX0 and shot on Pro Color 3.0! Really love this profile! It was a little over saturated on the RX0. Once I dialed the saturation down it looked great. -
Nice!! Very clever. I’m not sure. You would think it would work?
-
@IronFilm Nailed it. For sure! I have the lenses, tripod, filters, etc...so all I would need is a few V mount batteries and some SxS Cards I would be set. I don't talk about this much on this forum but my Dad is a director or feature docs and I shoot with him a lot. The last two films we made went to theaters and we have a few more in the works. The fact that ARRI Alexa is so obtainable is revolutionary and really really exciting! I shoot all 1DC right now and love dealing with ridiculous cameras for a gorgeous image payoff. I rent Alexa often for high budget commercials and music videos I direct. Here are a few projects I directed that were all Alexa In Nashville, there is a large community of people that I work with that rent Alexa's and I would imagine if I had a ready to go kit that I could rent it out. Problem is..I would have to sell a lot of crap to pay for it and I would not want to go into debt to purchase it. Roman on vimeo brought up a good point in his comment to me: "My guess though is that it's only going to get cheaper very soon here. The Alexa and the sensor that's been used in every single version of the camera is pretty much at the end of its rope. I'll bet you anything by NAB next year they'll finally release a new version of the Alexa that can be purchased by rental houses with a brand new sensor. At that point... it's going to be a free-for-all. Like... so SO many bodies are going to be dumped left and right it's gonna be nuts." Chances are..the best time to buy it will be when the newest sensor comes out. REGARDLESS...the fact that we are justifying the purchase of an ARRI ALEXA that is the same price of a C300 mkii blows my mind. REALLY exciting.
-
@dbp I would be happy to deal with the sluggish workflow for that DANG SEXAYYY IMAGE! I shoot 90% on sticks anyways! I'm going to be digging around for one. Arri Alexa would be worth selling my 1DC for! Lol. Leitax makes a great Canon EF adapter for Alexa too that would be perfect for my CONTAX Zeiss kit. They have the Leitax mounts on them already. http://www.leitax.com/conversion/Cine/Alexa/index.html DANG..imagine my youtube content shot on ALEXA lol. MKBHD on steroids. Had a conversation with Roman Alaivi about his on vimeo....insane.

I was curious to see what used ARRI Alexa's were going for and I was shocked to see that a Classic EV model goes for $8k-$10k on average. Is this camera using the same sensor technology we have in the modern ARRI's? Is this a practical thing to get into? $10K is very doable and reasonable...and for ARRI...gosh darn it.... Why keep comparing everything to a standard when you can just OWN the standard? https://www.ebay.com/itm/ARRI-Alexa-Classic-EV-High-Speed-Camera-TESTED-AND-EXCELLENT/302511937364?hash=item466f1dd754:g:jb8AAOSwFnJZeina

Just browsing the ML forums and stumbled across the progress on the ML 80D hack. Looks promising! Quote from the forum: "...It seems that 80D has a writing speed close to 80 MB/s (70D only 40 MB/s). It is quite possible that we can get more than 1080p with compressed raw. The 10 bit should work as well..." https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=17360.150
