  2. Step One: Move to a city where musicians live or films are being made. Step Two: Become friends with those artists. Step Three: You're shooting a high budget video before you know it!
  3. Thanks! I directed this but didn't have much say in the edit and post. If I were fully involved in that process I would have done either just 16:9 or 2.35:1. Also, the color grade...not a huge fan. Would have made the intro shots more moody and dark. Just my thoughts. Wish I had more involvement, but dealing with the artist, label, and producer wasn't easy and they kinda took over the project after the shoot day. I may put together a "directors cut" and post that on Vimeo with the changes I mentioned.
  4. Music video I directed just went live! Shot on Arri Alexa Mini with Cooke S4/i glass and it was a pleasure to use! I'm always taken by the Alexa image every time I work with it. Wish I could afford to use one every time I shoot! directed by Dave Altizer produced by Jarad Clement director of photography Chris Adams edited and color graded by Jarad Clement here are some BTS shots
  5. 80D with video mic go, 18-135 USM lens, with camera strap. Nice and lightweight. Great video and photo for family stuff. Used it non stop on a trip to Santa Barbara with my wife last week.
  6. Looking at your avatar pic while reading what you wrote makes it even better.
  7. Absolutely. Hard work is the secret sauce. I personally believe that all humans are "creative". Its just in our nature. Some of us have been able to tap into that and have worked hard at making that their career. "Career" is man made. The 9-5 "job" is a recent innovation. Man kind has been creative and scrappy their entire existence to survive and to entertain. What a fascinating species we are
  8. I can't speak to stills as the Nikon VS Canon debate is like android VS iOS or Mac VS PC....but I can confirm through experience that usability wise the Canon is superior for video. The Dual Pixel AF is incredible. The flip out screen is fantastic. Obviously its not 4k but the 80D really has great 1080p. All these things are my opinion... but what is a fact is that a TON of YouTubers and Wedding videographers that I know shoot with and LOVE the 80D. Just shot a wedding last night with mine on a MoVI and it was a workhorse. Having a LED on the MoVI kept me at ISO 350 which really helps. The 80D doesn't do well over ISO 800.
  9. If stills are a serious importance I would go canon 80d with 18-35 1.8
  10. I'm so pissed. My home in Nashville is getting total solar eclipse. I'm on vacation with my wife in Santa Barbara. (Shot a wedding Saturday and turned it into a vacation) California isn't getting anything special.
  11. Take a look at Philip Blooms test and also the newsshooter one. You'll need to watch an official 1DX II vs C200 video before you'll know for sure tho
  12. Thank you so much for those kind words. Really means a lot! I'm happy to have helped you! Isn't the internet amazing? Haha I believe you have read me well. A 1DX II really would suit me well since that form factor is what I prefer. I'm wanting to rent them both soon! May be doing some tests with the C200 in a few weeks
  13. I would second JordanWright with the black pro mist filters. I put them on my STM canon lenses and they really make them much more pleasing. Very cinematic and gives you that "vintage" look. I use the 1/8 pro mist often.
  14. True... however an external recorder will give you that...but it's a messy option of course and internal would be best of course. This is a good point, and one that would require a new thread... but a FS5 mkii that does 4k 60fps, that has a touch screen with the a6500 AF would have me interested for sure. Interesting factoid... according to B&H the 1DX II is heavier than the C200 is!
  15. I need to work in resolve. I hear MJPEG runs well. I usually just immediately convert all my footage to 4K ProRes LT because my main work machine is the base model 13" MBP 2016. I do 5% photo and 95% video with my 1DC. I would miss having unlimited recording and the super 35 crop mode with the 1DX II but I've been shooting a lot of 60p recently and have been switching between my 1DC for real time and my 80D for 60fps using EOSHD Canon Log. I've been moderately impressed with the image quality on the 80D but every time I pick up the camera to do 60p... I think to myself....1DX II.... I'd only need one camera..... Absolutely. I'd use MP4 80% of the time more than likely. I literally used RAW with my blackmagics like two or three times for the two years I owned them. Great point. I always justify it by saying I need stills but I never use it for stills. I don't even like taking stills. I'm thinking of just keeping my 80D and getting the C200B (I have a zacuto gratical and I want a smaller C200 for gimbal work) Why can't Canon make a mirrorless camera the size of a GH5 that was competitive in that area...!!!! Mercer... wow thanks man. Flattered. 1. I feel dumb buying a C200 cause I feel like I'd use the .mp4 80% of the time. I feel like the expense it takes to have the option of Raw would be a waste because all I truly want is a canon camera that does 60fps at 4K. That's why I keep going back and forth... because in a way for what I'm planning on using it for, the 1DX II has better 60fps because of the larger sensor and the higher bit rate (considering that I will mainly shoot MP4 and not raw) I'm already used to the MJPEG workflow because of my 1DC and I have a bunch of fast CF cards that will record 24p 4k (I'll have to buy some CFAST for 60fps 4k) 2. i prefer the dslr form factor because I love the modularity. However... the C200 is extremely modular and i would buy the C200B which is even smaller. I didn't realize that raw 60fps 4k on C200 was only 20% larger than 1DX II. Makes it a more inticing option. Plus, if FCPX natively supports the Canon raw format in a similar to R3D format I would be super intrigued. A proper 1DC mkii would give me no question. I would buy that in a heartbeat. My 1DC has been the most enjoyable and magical camera I have ever owned and I really don't want to give it up :P
  16. Ya absolutely all valid points. The idea is for me to sell my 1DC to have the funds to get the upgrade. Ill wait it out, rent it, and see how I like it
  17. The idea that I am considering one or the other is weird...it makes sense that I would go with a C200 as a no brainer selection for video...but the quality of the stills and the fact that 1DX II has 8bit 4:2:2 internally along with a better touch AF system as discussed by mr Philip Bloom: There is just some sort of MOJO that the 4k Canon DSLR's put out. I just love the look and the idea of a smaller form factor camera....I have also gotten used to and quite fond of the 1.3x crop from my 1DC and a 1DX II would be a natural upgrade for me. What are your thoughts?
  18. If money were no option I'd get the GH5 with a full Voigt lens kit. After shooting on BMPCC with metabones speed booster for years, I've come to the conclusion that I hate using adapters. Going native is so much more reliable and efficient.
  19. This is so odd to me. But super cool! You can't even purchase a RED RAVEN on RED's site! Also...YES YOU MUST USE ALL CAPS ON RED STUFF https://www.apple.com/us_smb_78313/shop/product/HK8Q2ZM/A/red-raven-camera-kit-final-cut-pro-x
  20. Color bit depth is so much more important to me. My 1DC 4K has 4:2:2 color space and the extra resolution once you compress the 4k to 1080p really makes the image have that "thickness" that we all lust after.
  21. Great choice on a used 1DC. I am a huge fan of it. It really has a mojo to it that even the 1DX II doesn't have. It also has so many great features for video people like no cut off recording and the fantastic super35 mode. I'm using the camera today shooting a wedding and I've modified my cheap but great Canon 10-18 stm lens to fit on the 1DC. I get no vignetting from 12mm-18mm while shooting 4k. It's a great gimbal/ glidecam lens!
  22. Looks like the 5D IV with Canon Log is shipping. I'm interested to see how it is and compare it to my 1DC. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1348564-REG
  23. After re reading the post I can see that sarcasm is hard to be expressed through the written word.
