  1. C300 mkii makes more sense for me now with a 1DC. I'm gonna rent one and do some tests. Not many people in my area are using c300 mkii. Alexa and Red are king in Nashville.
  2. Interesting info guys. Thanks for sharing. The Raven is a really attractive camera to me still though because of the weight and size. Fits on a MoVI M5 and would sit nicely in my small think tank bag with my 1DC. Two small little cinema machines. Plus the RED name is so attractive to producers.
  3. Good to know. Interesting thing about the noise. The skin tones look better to me than MX ever was. I'm considering buying a Raven but I'm a little hesitant because the crop factor and data management. I love my 1DC but long for HFR. Raven has some lovely options for high frame rates especially at that price.
  4. Curious to know if any of you have had experience with Red Dragon sensor. I'm hearing lots of mixed reviews on it. I've shot with MX multiple times but actually haven't worked with Dragon yet.
  5. Yes! My friend had his C300 held at customs his entire trip in Nicaragua. They wouldn't let him bring it into the country without a ridiculous tax fee. He just shot the promo with his iPhone that week.
  6. The last month I've done two international trips with the 1DC and I'll say this camera is fantastic for that type of work. A real ninja camera. The DSLR form factor makes going through customs a breeze.
  7. Let's look at the previous track record.... Canon 1DX comes out. Then a few months later the 1DC comes out. Fast forward to now. 1DX mkII comes out. A few months later.... 1DC mkII comes out? That's my educated guess. We'll see.
  8. I love my CONTAX Zeiss glass. It's cheap and has a gorgeous filmic look to them. I have the "travel" set. 28mm f2.8, 35mm f2.8, 50mm f1.4, 85mm f2.8. Im wanting to upgrade to the faster primes and get to a full set of the "supers". Check out this RedUser forum all about them. Love these lenses. http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?92044-Contax-Zeiss-Survival-Guide&highlight=CONTAX
  9. Canon is a very predictable company. They aren't like Sony in that they do things that are unexpected. We won't see a 5d4 or 1dxii ever get canon log. This response from them proves that. Thanks for sharing. Canons cinema line will always be the only place for Canon log. Canon at cinegear stated that they are a lens company first and a camera company second. The amount of glass they sell is astronomically higher than camera bodies. Always keep that in mind when you think of canon. They are very focused and predictable with their cameras. Unless there is a "C" on the body, don't expect canon log.
  10. It's August 1st. 1DC is still $5,000. I heard it was only gonna last till July 31. Good news!
  11. I shot with pocket as my workhorse for over a year and just sold it a few months ago. Quite a pain to work with but I figured it out in the end. Using UV/ IR filters all the time and the switronix battery mount on top of the camera giving me 5hrs of battery life. Totally workable but nobody cares. Never had one single person hire me because I had a "Blackmagic" except Seth Worley a few times.
  12. Everything I'm mentioning is what I thought I was told at NAB four years ago. Sorry for my mistake. Show me some of your work. Would love to see how it compares. C Log is more than worth it for me to go with 1DC as I work with other Canon Cine cameras on a daily basis. Fact is, 1DC makes the most beautiful cinema 4K I've ever seen off a Canon Cinema Camera and I've used them all with the exception of C500. The Canon Cine lens compatibility I was referring to was addressed in the most recent firmware update: https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/explore/product-showcases/cameras-and-lenses/cinema-eos-firmware/1dc 1DC also has some other advantages over the original 1DX. Obviously doesn't relate to 1DX II fully but is a response to what DBounce has said: "Compared with 1D X hardware, 1D C has a better heatsink, slightly overclocked DIGIC 5+ chip, a headphone jack instead of flash sync port and a locating pin hole at the bottom. 1D C is approximately 150g heavier than 1D X." http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?304245-Some-interesting-facts-about-Canon-1D-C-you-probably-don-t-know-about although this article debates the heatsink difference: http://wolfcrow.com/blog/canon-1dc-vs-1dx/ Truth is....this camera is a freaking beast. Im not switching. I love it. You should rent them and see for yourself. I only use manual lenses so the autofocus doesnt matter to me and Canon Log is way too important for me too. Slow motion isnt an issue. I can get slow motion from other tools. This is a sexy image machine.
  13. Thanks FilmMan! This project was a lot of fun. Gonna have fun in post. Lots of VFX.
  14. Better DR for video with C Log. HDMI output options better. Special heatsink designed for 4K video. Super 35 mode. Compatibility with Canon Cine glass. And I'm sure internal juju that was tested and designed specifically for cinema. If you're not worried about any of these things then there is no reason to argue it really. Cinema5d did a test with both and 1DC still outperforms the 1DXII for video. https://***URL not allowed***/canon-1d-x-mark-ii-vs-canon-1d-c-which-one-shoots-better-video/
  15. I don't understand why you guys are arguing this. 1dc is a cinema camera. The 1dxii is not. Sounds like justifying a purchase to me. Just be careful with how you guys argue these things unless you're using these cameras in actual professional shooting environments. I can tell you from experience that shooting with a dslr in a set environment again kinda sucks. DSLRs were never supposed to be used on set. We just made them work. Cant argue with that image tho and c log on the 1dc looks better than any of the other C cameras in my opinion.
  16. Is this deal only going to last a few days?
  17. Great tip! I'm gonna try that
  18. Wow thanks! All 4K in C Log. Exposed on the histogram at 30%. Graded with color finale and film convert.
  19. Some graded screen grabs from the 1DC. Shooting on Leica R glass.
  20. C100 and a6300. Since we were shooting a fight scene I figured it wouldn't hurt to have some extra coverage. If people don't jump on this deal then you're crazy. This camera has a freaking gorgeous image.
  21. It never came up as a problem for us on this shoot. We were jerking the camera around quite a bit too. Never really noticed it. I'm sure it's there if you look hard enough. But I don't think it will be an issue.
  22. Just wrapped our music video shoot with the 1DC using Leica R glass. I directed and had an amazing DP here in Nashville shoot it. He never used the camera before and wasn't used to the full frameish image and got too close to our actor while she was swinging an axe and it put a gash on his head. Blood spewed everywhere but he was ok. Paramedics took him to the hospital and thankfully he only needed a few stitches and was fine. We still were able to finish up the shoot with me operating and having our gaffer also be a DP today. Excited to show you guys the final product. Lots of VFX in this one so it'll be a while in post. 1DC was a champ with the exception of one of the duclos modded lenses (the 24mm). The lens element went too far back and would jam the mirror on the 1dc which caused an error. An issue never faced with an actual "video" camera. Basically we had to take the lens off, then turn on the camera, then go into live view mode... Then put on the lens. Other than that the camera worked great. Plus the weather sealing really helped protect the camera from all the blood! ............. some images from our shoot below: Here is all the blood on the camera. Here is all the blood after I wiped it up this morning...
  23. Yes you can take the battery out. Having the top of the cage screwed into the hot shoe prevents it from twisting. Where do you go to buy that? I can't find it anywhere for sale in USA.
  24. Exactly. That little side rail thing can be replaced with any 15mm rod. So just measure the length of what you need and buy that rail on Amazon. I did the same for my 1dc and wooden camera cage. Just used a spare 15mm rod for that side rail. Also I'd get the handle they make too with it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B7I25AQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_bvoKxb552XB22 youll need a nato rail to mount it on the cage: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EVG3M68/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_MwoKxbESQK7VR
