Canon rumors released some specs on the new G7X III and M5 II. I'm most excited to see what they do with the M5. The M5 is supposed to be a higher end camera from the M50...but the M50 is so so good IMO. If they have 4k with DPAF and no crop...now we're talking. That new sensor paired with the Digic 8 might allow that to happen. My thoughts are maybe at VidCon Canon will release the G7X Mark III. It's the perfect "vlogger" camera and would be a nice splash in the market coming off the trails of the Sony RX100 6. We are going to VidCon next week so I will let you know if anything happens there. Here are the specs from Canon Rumors: EC804 – Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III 4.2x Zoom 1″ sensor DPAF 4k Video (no DPAF) GPS This camera features a new Canon 1″ sensor EC811 Canon EOS M5 Mark II 28.3MP APS-C mirorless camera 4K@30fps video and DPAF. This camera features a new Canon APS-C sensor http://www.canonrumors.com/are-these-the-next-canon-cameras-to-be-announced-cr1/

I don't know why nobody makes a wide angle zoom point and shoot. I'd love a G7X or RX100 with a 16-35mm equiv and I think a ton of vloggers would as well.

Here’s my video review on the speed booster I got from a previous thread. Just posting here so we don’t have multiple M50 threads. Speed booster really solves the issues with the 4K crop. I wish Metabones would make an “XL” version for EF-M so it takes the 4K crop to proper super35. But still, the .71x isn’t too bad.

I did some tests comparing my 1DC to the M50 in 4K. In the video, you can see that the 1DC in 4K actually has better rolling shutter performance. Also, to my eye...the 1DC has an advantage in overall image quality. More richness and color information in the files. It also seems a bit sharper as well. HOWEVER, with a speed booster, the M50's 4K is usable, and if anything, will serve as an excellent B camera for interviews. The rolling shutter in 4K is probably so bad that I wouldn't recommend it for gimbal shots. But as you can see in the test, using the FCPX rolling shutter fix plugin, it stabilizes it fairly well. I'm hoping a true full frame 4k mirrorless camera comes from Canon soon!

No. I hate using touch screens for interfacing.

I can vouch for that. The manual focus by wire is linear so it’s much much easier to do

One thing that I wish the canon cinema series had that stills cameras have is Auto ISO. I know it’s not a “pro” feature but it’s so usable for run and fun shooting. Wish the C100/200/300 had that.

100%. I have had these conversations with YouTube consultants. This is true. VR, 4k at 60fps, EVERYTHING YouTube is offering you need to prioritize that for analytics advantage.

Just a quick thank you for supporting EOSHD over the years

Thank you Andrew! It’s a pleasure to be a part -
Was planning on going but couldn’t make it! Enjoy!

I guess that Rokinon 12mm f2 and the upcoming Laowa 9mm f2.8 EF-M would be a better option. Both will work at APSC and 4K.

1080p is good for sure but it’s not any better than all the other canon dslrs and the 5dmk4 1080p and super35 1080p on 1DC are in a different class than that really. 4k is where it’s at. Perfect happy medium. It’s not mind blowingly sharp like GH5 but it’s really usable and runs so smooth on my base model MBP. It’s a shame the rolling shutter is so so bad. I’m putting the camera in a cage to add some weight and make me use it more like a real camera. I think once you add the weight and stuff it’s usable. I want to try the c-mount veydras on it. I feel like those would be amazing on the m50 crop. Also, what wide lenses actually work on it? @mercer can you give me a list of those 1” c-mounts you keep talking about?

I really hope this is a sign of things to come with that full frame mirrorless.

Only issue is, ROLLING SHUTTER IS SO SO BAD!!

I’ve been playing around some more. I found a better wide angle adapter. It is able to go over the entire lens just enough to cover the lens and be gaff taped onto it. the autofocus works perfect and the new focal length is 14mm. So we now have a 14mm f2 autofocus lens. It’s perfect for vlogging! Also, I found the EVF to be way too small and crappy to use as an actual method for manual focusing. So I pulled out my old BMPCC Z-Finder and it works great! I just gaff taped it to the monitor, but you could probably buy the Zacuto sticky mount for it. (You’d loose the ability to fully close the screen obviously.) Also, I don’t know why but I’m just really enjoying toying around with this camera. I can’t remember when I’ve enjoyed something this much. I had fun like this when I got my BMPCC for the first time, or when I hacked my 5D3 to shoot raw. It’s just plain fun.

Ya the 1080p is so so so bad. It looks like XT1

Thanks @EOSHD_Twitter and @mercer! I need to do more testing. The rolling shutter is so so bad though. Is it worse than a6300? Looks like it to me. This camera just needs to be locked down when in 4K mode lol. Speedbooster is really working well. I need to pick up some EF glass to do more tests. M50 with speed booster makes Canons only fullframe mirrorless camera! One extra thing I’m trying out is adding an adapter to the 22mm f2. I love that little lens and it’s really the best part of the EF-M system. With a beastgrip wide angle lens, it converts the 22mm to a 10mm f2 lens! Haha. Fun stuff. Keeps the autofocus too. The beast grip wide angle lens is pretty crap. Only paid $14 for it. I’m sure there are better adapters out there. But this setup is nice and small. I ordered a step down ring so I can actually screw it on the lens.

Most exciting thing about this announcement is that Sony has no excuse anymore to not include a flip around screen. ???

The speed booster and the C-Mount lenses came in today! The speed booster is fishy. Using my all manual CONTAX Zeiss, the image displayed on the M50 is super choppy. Almost like the video card in the camera cant handle it or something. Really weird. But when I put an actual EF lens with electronic contacts on it, it works fine. I assume this has something to do with my Leitax mount CONTAX glass. Below is the CONTAX ZEISS 28mm F2.8 WITH the speed booster. Shot 1080p, 24fps. I did test the booster, and autofocus with dual pixel DOES work and it works well. What is interesting using this adapter with this camera is, this is the ONLY Canon camera that shoots full frame video with focus peaking and a 4k mode that has a flip out screen. I hope to see a fully articulating screen like this with focus peaking on the future full frame mirrorless from canon. Below is the same lens. Same distance. Without the speed booster. Just using the EF-M to EF adapter from Canon. The c-mount lenses were a downer. You get very serious vignette, even in 4k. I know there are some C-Mount lenses that mount on APS-C. Maybe I should pick some of those up. The only way to use the C-Mount in 4k is to either crop it to square format, or zoom in 150%. Neither is a practical thing and I wish I did more research on this before I jumped in. Anyone know any C-Mount lenses that would suffice on a 2.4x crop? 100% 150% Square format

It looks fairly well contained though. Im going to make a video with the one I get and start bugging Metabones to make one. I hope they do.

I guess the ideal would be Veydra with EF-M Mount. I could do C mount but I’m not seeing C mount veydras anymore on their site. Yeah totally. The vintage look would resolve nicely.

What are the BEST c mount primes then if I wanted a good wide and a good normal focal length? Any advice on Zooms? Any that are amazing?
