  1. Typical bait & switch salesman tactic. Oldest trick in the book. Listen, I’m no conspiracist. But you people are so naive. Gerald isn’t your friend. He’s running a business. A YouTube gear review business. I wanna be there when his three A7S3s brick out on assignment in the field. But oh wait, that’s not his concern, he’s not a filmmaker, he’s a YouTube lab tester. Never leaves his temp controlled studio. Basically the vidéo gear equivalent of Unbox Therapy. Good, we need people like them testing gear. But take their clickbait catch phrases with a grain of salt. C300 MK3 review: « This is going to be my new daily driver. » A7S3 review week later: « This is going to be my new daily driver. » Tweet: « Here is proof, I’m buying 3! » ..and hence the hype train carries on around the blogosphere/forums and sponsored links bring in the revenue. Perfect technical masterpiece my a**. By the way, I’m saying all this as a Sony user interested in the A7S3. I won’t however give it a free pass in the overheat department, nor will I let Gerald off the hook for not taking his review unit outside and tweeting folks to ignore other people’s overheat testings. End rant.
  2. Oh right, the price / form factor argument! Kinda begs to question why was the C300 MK3 even considered in the first place? Oh wait maybe it never was.. M'kay.. Touché. Nonsense. A7S3 is a technical masterpiece & is as perfect as it gets!
  3. Why are you still even here arguing with me? God has spoken and you shall follow the rule of three: Click Geralds link and add to cart Three A7S3’s.. a C300 Mark 3 you shall forget & replace with thee.
  4. He could buy 10. Who the hell cares? Do you really rate gear on what other people purchase? As much as you’d like it to be it isn’t some popularity contest..
  5. @Nezza Right.. camera is “as perfect as it gets” in his own words. You should click the affiliate link and buy 3 as well!
  6. Hmm.. so now he's actually advising people to ignore the overheating tests. The plot thickens..
  7. That’s the thing though, you lose time in post having to fix the infamously poor SOOC white balance under mixed lighting on Sony cameras. That “Japan Mode” promo video above is a prime example of that. Skin tones are all over the place. Notice how they look ok in natural light outdoor shots then shift to zombie tones under the various artificial lights.
  8. ^ I'm pretty sure Canon & Sony agree with you there!
  9. Yeah call me tin foiled hat I don't care. I guess the recent Sony / AP deal, was also purely based on unbiased preference, no money was involved. 😂
  10. I'm aware of his reputation, that doesn't mean I'm going to give him a free pass for shitting the bed on the A7S3 overheating test. Never overheats my ass. How come when incorrect overheating claims for R5/R6 were made by other YT reviewers they were considered Canon shills, and yet Gerald gets a free pass? I know he's one of the more technical and usually thorough reviewer out there which is why I find this even fishier. As for the C300 III to A7S3 bait and switch claims, his credibility is really at risk here IMO.
  11. Also after watching the Gerald Undone video, I’m a little suspicious over his motives. He went the extra mile with the R5 overheating tests, causing many people to cancel their R5 pre-orders.. but then says in his video “the A7S3 doesn’t overheat” when we know from several sources it does overheat and VERY quickly at that in direct sunlight. I guess he covers his bases at the end when he says he only did “lab tests” i.e no outdoor field tests.. but not such a thorough reviewer after all. Furthermore, he mentions several times that he cancelled his C300 II purchase in favor of two A7S3’s. He never goes into the reasons why. I find that kinda sus.
  12. Yeah I’ve watched a bunch of A7S3 videos and unfortunately can’t say I’m very impressed by the colors, skin tones and overall look. It has that alpha series video look I’m not so fond of. Of course the 10-bit makes for smoother grading and the ALL-I fixes the horrendous motion cadence of A7III, but the absence of S-Cinetone is a shame. On the PotatoJet video you can really see what I’m talking about as the footage intercuts with FX9 footage that looks so much more organic/filmic. Of course when shooting 4K120p with cine/telephoto lenses the footage looks tasty but otherwise I havent seen anything really impressive.. yet. Will keep an open mind though as this camera ticks many boxes, but after the initial hype passes.. IQ is really what matters to me in the end, especially when considering a 4200€ mirrorless.
  13. I'm aware of that yet in sunlight the R5 beat the A7S3. Also at least that "BS lineskipped 1080p looking 4k" doesn't brick the camera, whereas A7S3 seemingly failed in 4K24p under 23mn. Let me be clear, neither situation is good. If you shoot outdoors in the summer or live in hot climate it's basically a no go. All I'm saying is Sony deserves the same amount of scrutiny that Canon endured in the last few weeks.
  14. So the Canons have overheat issues and get bashed to death, memes and all.. but the new Sony, who in a clear comparison test shuts down completely under 23 minutes and before the R5 sitting next to it.. and it gets a free pass? Kinda sounds like double standards.
  15. He's got a therm gun a timer and clearly shows the A7S3 shutting down after 23mn, while the R5 is still going a bit longer and the S1H running much cooler than both as expected. Again, he also specifies that indoors with AC, the A7S3 runs much longer than R5 (1H30 vs 25mn). So clearly depending on temp conditions, overheating results may vary. Further tests by other sources are welcome I agree but overheating on A7S3 remains an evident reality.
  16. I don't shoot outdoors that much, especially not in hot weather.. so I'll take the A7S3's indoor 1h30mn over the R5's 25-30mn 4K HQ. if you're a wedding/outdoor shooter in warmer zones, it looks like neither would be a good solution over an S1H or active cooled cine cam. It isn't clear if the non high frame rate 4K24p/30p on A7S3 overheats at all or not.
  17. First R5 vs A7S3 comparison.. As far as overheat, the R5 actually BEATS the A7S3 in exterior Florida heat test in 4K60p. A7S3 shut down in 23mn! Indoors however, A7S3 had a clear lead it seems. Overall A7S3 seems like the more flexible video tool in all areas, but overheating remains a reality and this real world test seems to show worst performance on the Sony in hot weather.
  18. I don’t see anyone talking about the very low expected rolling shutter. We got a preview of it from that German Vlog (I’m now 99% sure it was shot on A7S3). That’s another really strong edge for this camera IMO opening up all kinds of action shots and fast camera movements. Pretty excited to find out more about that.
  19. Nice! Really smart of Sony to include so many codec options.
  20. Hmmm so A7S3 has a h264 10-bit codec option making it an easier to edit 10-bit solution than Canons? That would certainly give an extra point advantage to Sony..
  21. So lemme get this straight, these new cameras (1DX3, R5/R6 & A7S3) are using 10-bit codecs no current computer/gfx card can decode/edit?! wtf
  22. screw paying an extra $4K to record 16-bit RAW files. Just give us ProRes RAW to a Ninja V for efficient low-end RAW capture.
  23. I don't do much editing but my editors have no problems with my FS7's high bitrate 10-bit 4:2:2 XAVC-I footage. I don't think they transcode either and most are on 15" MBPs. By the way, FS7/FX9 still have really neat exclusive features (aside from all the I/Os, NDs etc) such as the Cine-EI modes & custom LUT support. A7S3 is certainly looking to be a great B-cam for them. A7S2 & A73 weren't so great in that regard. I wonder what weather sealing is looking like though.
  24. B&H video is basically one big Sony commercial. Salesman in the video would literally have you sign a mortgage if he could. Zero critical thinking. We’ll have to wait for more independent sources to know it’s potential flaws, especially real world overheating limits. But anyways, video confirms all the rumors and puts an end to speculation. We finally have a Sony Alpha camera with 10-bit ALL-I codecs & 4K HFR. Enhanced AF. Touch AF. New menus. About time. Still I can’t help but not feel too much excitement. Maybe I’m just being conservative because after a 6 month Canon hype train we were met with utter disappointment. Or maybe it’s because it feels Sony is playing catch-up. I mean Panasonic, Fuji & now Canon all offer 10-bit & 4K60p. And with at least twice or more MP for stills. Just doesn’t feel so special. Of course there is a lot to like here as well, but after a 4 year wait and for a whopping 4200€.. I guess I was really hoping my expectations would be exceeded.. but instead they were just met. All that said, if indeed the thermal balance is double that of Canon and there are no nasty surprises, I will most likely pull the trigger.
  25. That article is way too detailed to be fake, besides we are technically July 28th in Europe. Of course the limits are thermal, with unchanged A7 gen4 body and passive cooling they're not going to achieve miracles.
