  1. Canon are going in for the kill with C300mk3 & R5. Cinema & Imaging teams working hand in hand is a beautiful thing for us, and something Sony needs to learn from.
  2. Pretty sure a COVID-19 vaccine will be out before a new A7S. R5 sent Sony back to the drawing boards for the 28th time. Must be hard trying to exceed expectations in such a crowded industry.

The potential overheating issue is much more of a deal breaker to me. You got a link to that video? I was set to purchase a X100V as travel hybrid but the camera overheated after 5 minutes (!!!) during a basic 4K test at the camera shop. Even during still shooting I could feel the back of the camera get hot (now a known issue on the X100V). I'm sort of fearing Fuji is cramming too high specs for their compact bodies, a problem Sony got into around A7R2.
  4. That's pretty neat you got a direct response from the CEO! Lotta bugs on this unit it seems. A shame considering its price point. Keep debugging / reporting issues, hopefully in couple months the FP will be solid. Haven't shot with it personally, but I really enjoyed the build quality..
  5. Yeah similar situation in France. We're officially on lockdown but still quite a few people in major cities not taking it seriously enough. doesn't help that there are major loopholes in the official document you need to fill out to go outside. We're on day 6 here and I'm already fighting depression.. business has ground to a halt, far away from family & friends. don't even have my music recording equipment to work on those songs I never usually have time to put into. on the upside all camera related GAS has suddenly vanished.. and at least I managed to escape to the countryside, Paris was a mad house.. good luck to everyone!
  6. ...wording sounds pretty clear to me!
  7. @mercer standard resolve RAW settings tab. @gt3rs should work on the free version (I can import and get access to the same RAW tab settings on C200 files using free version). it is great it is already compatible although makes you wonder perhaps 1DX3 CRM file is similar structure if not identical to C200 CRM files.

Yeah they're not yet flying reviewers to Vegas or the Bahamas to get a hands-on.. there is still some ways to go lol. I also think there is just genuine interest/hype over this camera as it's really a class-leading APS-C hybrid. As for the "more buttons & switches" comment, I didn't really notice that. They just relocated stuff around to make it more balanced towards video.

Here is some low light footage using IBIS+EIS from an actual DP who knows what he's doing and not trying to VLOG: Looks pretty smooth & artefact free to me..

I think the main problem coming from these videos is that 90% are made from photographers that have limited understanding of video work. They think IBIS is a gimbal replacement or some sort of steady cam. It is not. If you add to the fact a lot of the footage displaying wobble artefacts are probably using the new EIS feature, well that just adds to the misjudgment of the IBIS. From the few footage that uses the IBIS correctly, it seems to me that it works really well. Nothing to worry about. Same thing for AF, even Canons dual pixel AF isn't flawless and won't replace a follow focus. There is actually technique to maximise a camera's AF sticky rate. Lens choice, lighting can also alter performance. That's not to say these pre-production cameras don't have issues, but until they ship these videos are just what they are: an early hands-on approach.

I have the opposite experience but to each their own, I'm not trying to impose my views.. just stating my preference.

Yeah in theory that should be the case, in reality it simply isn't. Most companies outsource to China for cost & volume ramping and that has significant effect on QC. That's just the way it is.. and XT3 is certainly proof of that. We're talking serious hardware malfunctions, glue smells etc. Never were these problems ever noticed on any MIJ fuji cam. The Fuji plant in Sendai is also notorious to take QC to an extreme level: I just don't see that type of infrastructure / QC in China. Besides with coronavirus related production issues, I'd rather not be too dependant on China with my gear at the moment..

When Fuji shifted production from Japan to China on XT3 there were quite a couple lemon units. That wasn't nearly the case with XT2. Quality Control just isn't the same. Anyways, are you saying XT4 country of origin is random?

wtf just noticed this: ..different manufacturing depending on color or do you think the made in Japan is pre-sample model only? I usually always get black version but would go silver if it means MIJ..

sorry to bring bad news.. but wait could be longer than you think.. shipping is delayed & estimated early may (if not longer depending on coronavirus situation). πŸ˜•

I shot Fuji for pro work during 2 years. In my experience the AF results were really dependant on two things: the glass used & the available light. I like to shoot with fast glass and that was always a problem, but more dependant on the lens design then cameras AF. I'd really like it if Fuji redesigned their fantastic 23mm F1.4, 35mm F1.4 & 56mm 1.2mm primes for video AF. Those lenses weren't made with video in mind as Fuji bodies hardly shot any video at the time those were released. If I were to enter Fuji system again today, I would probably acquire the F2 WR lenses, but I already know they aren't close to having the mojo of their faster older lenses..

Nice to finally see an AF-ON button & still/movie sub dials ! πŸ€—

While I agree nobody forces anyone to upgrade.. there is a very real difference in between XH1 & XT3. XH1 has IBIS, XT3 has 10-bit. Depending on usage, either one could be essential. Personally, I wanted both features plus extra battery life. So I'm glad I skipped XH1/XT3 and will probably grab an XT4 ASAP! Not holding my breath for XH2 though..

^Agreed. Most of my clients don't have a clue what I'm shooting with. Could I get by with a 5D3? Probably, most of my deliveries are still in FHD. New gear can be inspiring though and the features they bring are useful to me as a DP. XT2/XH1 has a 0.2x crop when shooting 4K. So you're really at 1.7x instead of true 1.5x APS-C/Super35 like XT3/XT4 has. Again, no client would ever notice that but it does make a difference when composing. I personally skipped XH1/XT3 coming from an XT2 but will probably pick up an XT4. I just love those dials, overall IQ and lack of OLPF on X-Trans sensors.
  22. Well FWIW: Canon started out as an optical company.. they had their first 35mm camera in the 30’s... VS sony, a consumer electronics company that made their first full frame camera... in 2008! History aside, Canon still makes all their full frame cameras in Japan, including sensors. This should in theory keep them safer from production delays than the competition (1DX3 for example is only missing the made in China card reader).
  23. well that's what you get for buying cameras from a gaming company 🀣 welcome to the club, I bought mine second hand last year. strongly recommend shooting in cine EI and set up in camera LUT to Venice CS (you can find the LUTs in google search). WB remains the tricky part..
