  1. I started on Nikon and still have a few nice lenses but the company has made some puzzling decisions lately and are really lagging heavily behind the competition.. Z6/Z7 weren’t at all bad efforts though imo, they are probably even my favorite current FF mirrorless design & ergonomics. I like the grip, front buttons, photo/video switch etc. The 35mm F1.8 S lens is also very nice. That said, Nikon has zero momentum. It’s like it released those cameras & lenses, made the ProRes RAW announcement and then dosed off into a coma. The D6 is a joke of an update spec wise. Z6S/Z7S? Yawn.. Nikon do need a serious shakeup or they may very well end up going the Nokia route as far as epic downfalls go!
  2. wow was not expecting compressed 8K or no crop 4K120p. those are some solid specs.
  3. I'm talking about electronic vari-ND.. and if the pocket-sized Ricoh GR & XT100 can do it, there must be a way to include it in a MILC.
  4. About the redesign, Tanaka said this at last year's CP+: "Many people have enjoyed the a7S II as a video camera, but originally we designed it for stills photography users. So if we’re going to create products [specifically] for video shooters, we’ll have to modify them in the future. (...) The basic expectation is for things like 4K/60, 10-bit 4:2:2, and a lot of manufacturers are doing that right now, but I want to think in a different way and create something that goes beyond the expectations of our customers. " I'm assuming that in order to get 4K60p / 10-bit 4:2:2 Sony has to redesign the physics of the A7 body to avoid overheating. This physical redesign is why it took them so long to release this camera and also the reason why even the latest gen Alpha bodies are still capping at 4K30 8-bit. Really hoping the "beyond customers expectations" means some innovative tech like the Vari-ND from the FS line.. that would certainly tip the scale in the upcoming R5/R6 battle.
  5. Yeah thats what I suspected, A9’s ultra low stills RS performance does not carry over to video.. and androidlad details why. The silly thing is PP’s are present in pretty much every alpha camera model except it’s flagship A9 series..
  6. Yeah Venice CS is superb. I have it set as default on my FS7. I didn't realise A7S3 was rumoured to be announced this month. Again. At this point Sony is like the boy who cried wolf with that camera, I'll believe it when I see it!
  7. Cool man, yeah I know the RS is great for stills but there is a A9 RS test on YT that shows it is clearly visible in video mode. (I won't link it as it may break the new forum policy rules). I'm sure the numbers are good, I'm just wondering how good exactly. A9 mark 1s have fallen really cheap, on the second hand market I've seen them as low as 2300 euros. For video, you lose S-Log compared to an A73 but if you do gain a lot in RS & AF I guess that could make it the best current Alpha cam. If so I may just be in the market for an A9 as an upgrade to the A73 for B-cam to my FS7.
  8. hmm.. kinda curious why you'd buy a A9 II if AF isn't important to you? you do shoot sports I assume? also what about the topic at hand: RS? I know the e-shutter for stills is around 6ms but for video I remember RS on A9 mk1 was good but nowhere near that low. Any numbers out there?
  9. Clearly not stupid if you are a pro sports action hybrid shooter like the above. Probably the best tool on the market for that.
  10. Yeah but the Sony's are 8-bit XAVC non-4K60 UHD cams, A9 doesn't even have log, pixel binning cams have other issues. Always some type of compromise with FF it seems..
  11. 32ms RS is definitely not a good number on a +$6K action/sports oriented camera! But it does looks like 4K RS is always on the high end (i.e +24ms) on all these hybrid FF cams. I guess this is an area where APS-C / Super35 still dominates (A6xxx series excluded!).
  12. Personally, my interest for 1DX3 completely died down after R5 was rumoured shortly after. As for GFX100 vs 1DX3 vs XT4.. well 3 different sensor size cameras at 3 completely different budgets. Again personally, above the $6K line I'd rather be looking at dedicated cine cams.. especially if RS, NDs, XLR etc are of importance to you. XT4 definitely seems like best bang for buck at the moment, kinda like the new GH5. But if you're into FF (even if just for stills) you still may wanna invest in another hybrid system.
  13. Yeah I definitely wasn't aware of a 2x crop mode on the XT4? can someone confirm this?
  14. DPreview has a sample gallery up: https://***URL removed***/samples/5031669290/sony-xperia-1-mark-ii-sample-gallery Lotta NR at higher ISOs but overall nice from iPhone user perspective. it's got that Zeiss look.
  15. The price is in alignment with other current flagships from Samsung (S20) and Apple (11 Pro). The Sony blows both out of the water on stills performance thanks to the 20fps with continuous Eye AF. Basically A9 performance in a smartphone. And the “cine” features on the video side. The sensors on the Sony & Samsung appears to be similar if not the same and are 30% bigger than iPhone 11 Pro’s and it shows with much better low light abilities. Obviously if you are a Sony Alpha or even XDCam shooter like myself, having that Venice CS alongside 10-bit could be a real asset for C-cam footage. I could see myself using it for sketchy locations where a big cam or even a mirrorless wouldn’t be tolerable. Or action, water sport scenes. Overall this is the first Android phone that catches my eye.
  16. could be kinda interesting it seems aimed to be paired with alpha series..
  17. 55Mbps bitrate seriously?! Lmao.. cripple hammer now belongs to Sony. SMH Maybe not a good sign after all 😕
  18. He said FF 4K so that eliminates Canon. 8-bit so I doubt its a Panny. Z6 already been eliminated. ..that pretty much leaves it to Sony? A73?
  19. Lol could literally be any camera. Are the screen grabs SOOC or graded? Lot more interested in the lens than body TBH. You seem to have quite the collection of epic vintage glass!
  20. By the way, sorry for the clickbait title but perhaps a sign towards what is to come in the next Alpha instalment? First time in a while (or ever period?) that Sony is placing pro CineAlta features in a consumer product!
  21. 4K60p. Venice CS. H265. 23.98FPS. A9 DPAF. Manual focus. Framing guides. Shutter Angle, 4K OLED display.. oh and it can also browse the internet & make phone calls: Xperia 1 II -6.5" 21:9 CinemaWide 4K HDR OLED display | Triple lens camera
  22. Canon 5D IV Leica Q2 Fuji X100V Sony A9 / A9 II
  23. Sensor tech is cool but I'm more excited about the overall package which Sony seems to be in a lead position with Alpha series team & Alta Cine pro line features trickling down into their new: Xperia 1 II 4K60p. Venice CS. H265. 23.98FPS. Manual focus. Shutter Angle etc.. Alongside triple lens Zeiss DPAF system.
  24. What I meant is that the actual "leak" is BS. I remember a store in Luxembourg was taking pre-orders for the 1DX3 months ahead of release for 10K €. Just a highball estimate from a random store trying to get pre-orders & hype on rumour sites / google referencing. Everything points towards a 5D class product, adjusted for inflation and the newer tech I'd say were looking at around 4K-5K tops. The primary consumer is still going to be image and Canon won't sell a single R5 to photographers with a $7K price tag.
  25. I call this "leak" total BS.. just a store trying to get buzz.
