Certainly, however the fact XT4 uses same sensor, processor, video resolution, codec, AF etc.. makes it feel rather incremental than next-level (like the jump from XT1 to XT2 to XT3). The main enhancements are basically hardware (IBIS, flip screen, battery). It's cool, I might even get one; but its understandable others may be underwhelmed..

Never had that problem in my 3 years with XT2. I personally like stills/video toggle switches, however I hated how far apart the movie mode was to single shot stills in the sub-dial. Kinda sounds like that has been "fixed" in the new sub dial config. Pricing is smart, like I said anything above 1700 mark and it would have been a hard sell. Only thing I'm kind of bummed about is the flip screen, much preferred the tilt mechanism from previous cams.

I hope IBIS doesn't bring the price up too much. X100V went up to 1500€. I'm guessing 1800-2000€ for the XT4 but I'm hoping I'm wrong. At that price or above, it would be kinda hard for an APS-C camera to really compete with FF imo.

That option is in the Canon RAW software & supported NLE’s like Resolve. However there is on C200 a CLog3 option in camera for MP4. Does appear 1DX3 is Clog only for now.

Agreed. 1DX will remain its own thing. I think the R5 is the new 5D & R6 the new 6D. That said R5 with its high MP & class-leading 8K resolution really places it in a "flagship" position in the market right now. A lot of new tech from Canon is being put into this camera (IBIS, new sensor, new processor, 8K..) so price wise I'm expecting something in between a 5D & 1DX. But who knows. I doubt we will get FF 8K no crop in RAW or 10-bit. If they do, price will be astronomical. Personally, I'm just looking forward to nice oversampled no crop 4K in a solid codec. 8K is really just gravy on top.

As a "pro flagship" camera I think you can expect much much better specs than a 500D or Nikon 1 ever intended to have. Price point will also go accordingly. Those hoping for 8K 12:1 compressed RAW / ProRes / 10-bit 444 for $1,999 are going to be thoroughly disappointed. When Canon introduced 4K with the 1DC in 2012 for $15,000... it was MJPEG and 1.3x crop. That said I'm pretty confident we're looking at $3,500-4,500 tops. This camera sits in between a 5D & 1DX. Above $5K they are pricing themselves out of the market. 8K/12K or whatever included.

Cool, I checked last night but couldn’t find the feature.. only later to realize my video clips were FHD! (I rarely shoot 4K on EOS R because of the crop). D’Oh!

I think Canon are hoping to catch 5D2/5D3 glory days success with R5. 8K + 45MP could keep this camera selling for the next 3-4 years instead of the usual 1.5-2 year cycle of mirrorless. If they don’t F things up of course. Its what we’ve been saying for years: Canon could sweep up the market if they just gave us what we want, i.e. a no compromise hybrid solution (that you don’t need to sell a kidney for). As for R6, i think there’s a bit of confusion as it’s supposed to be a cheaper model (think 6D). Don’t expect 1DX3 in MILC format.

Total click-bait for sure.. I love how he states to never believe rumors, only to proceed to full speculation moments later! he does raise a somewhat semi-valid suspicion I guess about the possibility of MJPEG for 8K: From a video perspective, the camera’s 8K video capture capability will prepare videographers for the future of movie-making- capturing 8K footage today allows for even higher-quality 4K productions in addition to the ability to extract high-resolution still images from the video footage. To my knowledge only the 1DX2 & 5D4 had a stills extract from video feature and both those cams used MJPEG. The thought alone of that codec returning gives me the shivers and it would be plain silly for Canon to place such an inefficient codec for such high resolution video files. But who knows.. when Canon introduced 4K on the 1DC it did have that one caveat!

Canon have been working on 8K for a long ass time. Z6, EOS R, XT3, BMPC4K were all released in 2018. depending on what your needs were they were arguably better choices. Sony didn't innovate much either with A73.. same resolutions, same codecs etc.. they mainly brought the price down which made it a huge success. We're still waiting in 2020 for a sign from Sony of the unicorn A7S3, but no dice. I think they waited too long and are in a rut now as they won't risk cannibalising FS/FX line.

It's funny Canon always seems to be on the "Guilty until proven innocent" side. I mean I know it's hard to swallow for some because Canon has had a poor rep in the past, but please take a look at the 1DX3 specs. To me it's a clear indicator Canon have changed strategies, and seriously upped the ante when it comes to video specs. Pretty sure they're on a mission to sweep up the hybrid floor and take back their lead position. In any case, this seems a solid camera on both photo & video side even with the unknowns .

By definition IBIS is "In Body". Here is the official development announcement section: The EOS R5 will be the first Canon camera equipped with IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization) and when used in conjunction with the extremely effective in-lens stabilization (IS), will allow photographers to handhold the camera in light levels not previously imagined. Lens OIS + EIS was what they were already doing previously. R5 is actual real mechanical IBIS.

C700 had internal ProRes.

I dunno. The Sony Hammer? Guess they had to give FS5 something the other cams couldn't do. I think FS7 mk2 has it too though. It's ace tech, they should really spread it across every video centric product imo. Actually it's my biggest hope for A7S3, amazing low-light AND vari-ND. Shoot wide-open non-stop day & night!

As far as ergonomics & features, the Canon competition have to start implementing stuff like internal NDs.. Sony especially should include the FS5's Vari-ND tech inside Alpha series. I don't see them going too far up resolution/codec wise because of XDCam cannibalisation fear. Panasonic are in the best position to compete on that front, but they really need to sort out PDAF, and maybe hire better design team (take some cues from Leica ffs)! Fuji, I'd love them to do a proper cine cam, but make it radical by taking cues from retro 8mm pistol cams:

Agreed. Sony are in a rut. They're $11K FX9 only does UHD. 10-bit but no internal Raw. No way XDCam managers will let Alpha series equate let alone go above that. Sony will have to fall back on other tech to impress their (shrinking by the minute) audience. Lowlight, megapixels, AF (insect recognition?) etc..
