  1. ^I think that torch/hammer should really be passed on to Sony.. who keep recycling sensors & processors.. and still haven't gone beyond the 8-bit 100mbps 4K30p video specs introduced 5 years ago on the A7S2. Meanwhile, Canon have introduced 5.5K RAW & 10-bit on 1DX3 and have now leapfrogged everyone with first 8K mirrorless. That said, the R5 will surely have some limitations. I'm betting on no 10-bit internal. Maybe RAW. 8K with a crop? Burst? I'll let the sensor mathematicians make those calculations!
  2. A7S3 Dev Team: Ok, back to the drawing boards folks. Seriously, I don't see how Sony or anyone is going to compete with this in the near future. Nikon took a hard L yesterday with the D6 announcement. Now Canon is here to finish them off. This camera feels like the true successor of the 5D3 (let's just forget the 5D4/EOS R). No more Touch Bar, joystick & scroll-wheel are back. Even the Rate button is there, hallelujah! Canon is back for revenge with the 1DX3 & R5. I'm just glad I stuck with them throughout the years (which will be regarded as the 'dark ages' lol).
  3. ..new leaks confirming: 45MPx, 8K, IBIS, dual card slots..and a pic: https://www.01net.com/actualites/canon-annonce-developper-l-eos-r5-son-premier-hybride-capable-de-filmer-en-8k-1855669.html#&gid=1&pid=1
  4. CanonRumors update: I have heard from a few people since this post, and apparently Canon Rumors has caused some stress at a few Canon subsidiaries. One person did tell us that the rumored Canon EOS R5 specifications are very close to 100% correct, but a few things are off. I did receive further confirmation that 8K is there though. We should hear more tonight/tomorrow.
  5. Having worked in the corporate video field for close to a decade, I am sadly well too aware of such situations. I've had my own share of cool projects that were green lit only to be later butchered by the PC police or worst: shelved during or after completion. I know its games risk but the motives are often so ridiculous, and results in a total waste of time, money, creative talent & energy. You would honestly expect in the creative field that a company like Fuji would stand behind their ambassador amidst such a ridiculous controversy, or at the very least issue a statement.. but just plain dropping him like that because of a few wild comments saying he should get punched in the face is vile imho.

    Fuji X-T4

This camera can't come out fast enough.. I skipped XH1 because of XT3, and then skipped XT3 because of XH2/XT4. Cannot wait to get back into X system! (sadly my XT2 got stolen 2 years ago. Miss it SO much!)
  7. It doesn't really matter how you perceive this artist.. I just find it really lame that Fuji aren't standing behind their ambassador. They know Suzuki's style. They edited the video, proofed it, released it with their logo. Now because of a few comments and polarising opinions on the internet, they pull the plug on him. Not just the video, they remove his entire page/history from their website! It's not like there is a Harvey Weinstein scandal here FFS... I guess it's the time we live in.. where YouTube commenters and like buttons have the power to destroy someone's career. There are a lot more controversial artists out there than Suzuki by the way.. I guess the bottom line is indeed to be weary of any kind of endorsement deal.. the added exposure to a mainstream audience that may not understand/accept what you're doing could be fatal.
  8. Spent some time with the 1DX3. It's an amazing beast of a camera as expected. The AF is so fast I could hardly notice it 'working' half the time. Lightning quick response. The touch screen response is also on another level VS previous generation. AF is definitely present in all shooting modes (including 120fps) except above 4K30p. RS quite visible in FF 4K24p. Gets much better in 4K crop mode (which is 1.3x like 1DX2). Anyways, I realise everybody is waiting for R5/R6 announcements now but the 1DX3 is definitely a power house. I'd even say the most advanced performing DSLR I've ever handled. Quite impressive.
  9. This is plain wrong if true: Fujifilm Removes Tatsuo Suzuki from X Photographer Program after his Controversial Street Photography Shooting Style in X100V Video
  10. Street photography has been around for ages: .. YouTube just wasn’t around to document the photogs in action. Sure, Suzuki’s style is a little more in your face, but I’ve seen other street photographers get away with it as well. I think the fact the guy looks and acts a little creepy is what gets him those protective reactions. Especially within the context of Japan, so I’d say dude is clearly playing with peoples comfort zones, which is interesting & ballsy. The X100 series, which are heavily inspired from Leica rangefinders, is the obvious choice for such photography and it makes perfect sense to have a skilled street photographer in the promos. But I guess it backfired for obvious reasons. All these “privacy” laws etc surely are killing this particular genre of shooting.
  11. Agreed. My assessment is that Sony is content (up to now at least) with its Alpha series 8-bit video specs for prosumers, and is hence protecting their cine line. At the same time this policy means no rush in developing beyond Bionz X or heat-management, the 2 bottlenecks towards better video specs. The competition knows this, which is why Canon are imo taking this as big opportunity to take market shares by themselves going beyond their usual stagnancy and deliver us the goods so to speak.
  12. lol this reminds me the same types of arguments that went on in 2012 when Canon first introduced 4K to the hybrid world with the 1DC. rare were those that though it was useful or manageable back then either, yet here we are today! 8k will allow further cropping for 4K/FHD timelines. oversampling for a sharper 4K. and actual resolution gain for those exporting in 8k. i recently upgraded to an iMac Pro 5K so already 4K is showing it's "limits" on screen. I'd be fine with 5.5K/6K though. but I don't get the complaining as nobody will be forcing you to shoot in 8K. having it on-board though is a nice future-proofing for the years ahead. in the end it's kind of a chicken & the egg thing. you need 8k capable cameras, to create/push 8k content, 8k monitors/TVs etc.
  13. EOS R -like most MILC systems- is aimed at photographers first, videographers second. Again BM isn't even in that hybrid market, so they aren't competing with it let alone dominating it. Canon have two cameras coming (R5 & R6) one will be expensive, the other less so. Seems like a sound strategy, not to mention if the specs are true it very well might be the class-leading FF units for 2020. Only wild card left is Sony and I don't really see them topping this.
  14. EOS R is a FF hybrid mirrorless system. Blackmagic is none of that. They don't even do AF. Your comparison is irrelevant. We don't know anything about the pricing or final specs yet so it's a little early to complain about pricing don't you think?!
  15. Don’t be silly now. Those days are long over. The competition is fierce, the market has shrunk and Canon are acknowledging both in their financial report. The specs aren’t that crazy either. We know nothing yet about crop factor, codec bit depth or if RAW is there. My guess is it will have slightly inferior specs to 1DX3. Id say expect S1H pricing on the R5 ($4000-4500) & S1 pricing on the R6 ($2500).
  16. Canon open up about R strategy in their latest financial report: “Although we have launched two full-frame mirrorless cameras as well as ten dedicated lenses, our lineup is still insufficient. In order to recover from our late entry into the mirrorless camera market, we have plans to launch a model that incorporates a newly developed image sensor and image-processing engine that offer even more advanced features. We will work to raise our presence in the mirrorless camera category, leveraging large trade exhibitions around the world. Even amid increasing competition, we will expand sales of higher-end models driven by new products and aim for top market share even in the mirrorless camera market.” ..Stars are aligning!
  17. @Michi Good catch! I forgot all about that interview.. I'm hearing Feb. 13 announcement. that's just 2 weeks away from today!
  18. Yeah my guess is 8K TimeLapse like Nikon introduced some time ago.. Yeah in Bastille. I had planned to go but something came up. I don't regret now with these new rumoured products! My next camera will have IBIS, that much is for sure..
  19. CR is one of the more reliable rumour sites. It does remain a rumour site. Those early specs weren't rated CR3. It does make sense that if we only are less than a month away before the announcement, that more accurate info would emerge. 1DX3 this is not though. 12FPS mechanical barely puts it in 2012 1DX mark 1 league. We know nothing about buffer. AF. The video specs, I am sure there will be caveats. That said, I'll happily upgrade if we just get IBIS and no crop 4K. RAW would be of course icing on the cake. I wonder if someone at Canon woke up and realised what MLRAW did to 5D3 sales.. Anyways, I'll be glad to no longer consider 1DX3 as an option. That form facto, lack of IBIS & price was not something I was excited about after the initial hype wore off (I even skipped the local preview event yesterday!).
  20. Canon catering to the needs of videographers? Heresy! It's going to get interesting around here when these cameras do come out lol! I believe the "shift" in strategy is probably due to tech R&D (EOS R was rushed out the door to be out in time to block Nikon) but also due to slow sales and expanding competition in the FF market. Canon put out a lot of pricey RF glass and needs to move it so that should explain them going all out as they did with 1DX3 (DSLR sales have also been plummeting). Of course I agree some of those specs seem too good to be true and will probably feature some kind of catch. Canon aren't crazy enough to give you a mirrorless that beats their flagship cine camera. They certainly seem back in the race though which is a blessing for those of us that haven't yet left the system.
  21. New battery, but the same shape and compatibility as the EOS 5D Mark IV check again, the above spec is in bold. furthermore, canonrumors added this tidbit: Is this really the high megapixel replacement for the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R? It doesn’t feel that way to me, it seems more like an EOS 5D Mark V as it has been presented. Remember, we made up “EOS RS” as a model name and we have no confirmation on what this new camera may be called. Canon have always been known to react primarily to Nikon, their historical competitor (even the EOS R was announced days after Z6/Z7). And Nikon have just announced their D780. 5D MkIV is also long due for a sequel. Just saying these things do add up..
  22. A lot of confusion it seems over these leaks. Looking at the rumoured info closer: Scroll wheel added to the back Liveview/Movie toggle like previous EOS DSLRs New battery, but the same shape and compatibility as the EOS 5D Mark IV ..what if this new camera wasn't simply the 5D Mark V? (Code name EOS R5) the R6 sounds more like an EOS R follow-up.

    Fuji X-T4

Announcement Feb 26 with a release in March 2020 is off to a good start!
  24. not sure I'll be able to check all of those, but will do my best! BTW, I think it's already been reported there is a 30mn recording limit no?
