  1. Hopefully there is a Super35 full readout mode in addition to pixel binned FF (a la Z7) wishful thinking I know..
  2. I’m getting mixed feelings from this one. Looks like the 5D IV sensor slapped on 6D2 rear controls: no joystick, flip out screen.. and is that a d-pad instead of wheel? Those 3 things really irk me personally. Top is ok, there is a lock but no dedicated ISO/WB buttons. Mode button instead of a dial. Only one function button..? OLED display looks good. No mention of IBIS and the 35mm has IS.. this has got me worried. On the plus side, -6EV DPAF & 4K, ND adapter and strong lens line-up. If they don’t mess up the 4K (full readout, no crop, strong codec, improved RS) and include C-Log that could be just barely enough to get my money..
  3. FF 8K 10-bit & Raw internal..?? with A7S3 sensor ?!!! Why on earth would Sony grant them that? Why wouldn't Panny use TowerJazz sensors? I gotta seriously question these "leaks"... not to mention such specs would render their $7,500 EVA-1 obsolete.. after only 8 months..
  4. BSI stacked quad pixel sensor?.. that does sound expensive..a bit of a stretch too tbh but if someone can make a jaw-dropping sensor it's Sony! Getting close to global shutter would be absolutely amazing and worth the extra cash imo.

He's called the angry photographer for something lol.. he ripped the A7III a lot harder in his overzealous 3 part review.. it should be worth mentioning he was already dissing the Z cameras before they were even announced. it seems like indeed a lot of Nikon DSLR shooters have had a negative reaction towards the camera ever since the new mount was announced. The pro body shooters got even more worked up when the mode dial, single card slot info came out.. justifiably so i guess. But it should be noted most of these reviewers are photographers. most of them know or care little about video.

  9. Apple & oranges a bit I'd say. C100 is a proper cine cam with ND filters, flip screen, XLR, peaking/zebras/waveform & DPAF with the upgrade. 1DC is a hybrid cam, so you get a killer stills cam but you do get FF, S35 & APS-H 4K on the video side. IQ wise i think @MdB said C100 had nicer motion & maybe tad sharper 1080p? Also I'm curious how is the rolling shutter on 1DC in S35 mode?
  10. Sony sort of have to go 10-bit on A7S3 or I just don't see what that model has to bring to the table vs A73. Keep in mind though, it will probably still cost +$3K and have very low MP count. It's a speciality camera, not really an all-rounder. Nikon Z6 is still packing a lot of heat for 2 grand. Absolutely awesome to see confirmation the battery life way exceeds what was initially announced! 1000 shots / 2h10mn 4K ..with LCD on all the time! what was CIPA smoking when they rated it?!
  11. Yeah I still love shooting my 5D mark 1 for that classic Canon look.. and of course C100 mark 1. Colour on those is just something special. 1DC in my opinion is still one of the best Canon cameras to this day for hybrid shooters. 4k with minimum APS-H crop & best quality in-camera 1080p in S35 mode. C-log. Classic Canon colors. I just may pick one up as a side-arm to my C100 if Canon doesn't come through with a promising MILC this fall. I'd be curious to see this 4k mode HDMI 1080p from the 5DIV/1DC but i already know i'd find it a major hassle to record externally just to get a quality cropped 1080p, with poor RS.
  12. FWIW as I pointed out in the other thread, DPR just added a bunch of sample pics from Japan, including exterior night scenes at high ISO (up to 25,600) which i find much more interesting then anything from the NYC launch event..
  13. @Mark Romero 2 not really interested either in who's is better. my point is simply that most of these press events including sony aren't really ideal to judge sample pics from. The only things? speak for yourself, some of use would also enjoy better weather sealing, 10-bit, stronger codec, venice color science.. etc Guarantee you gap with newfound MILC competition would seriously narrow if they address these points in the future, which they hopefully will!
  14. you guys seemed to have missed my point.It was about Sony not always doing a particularly great job of staging launch events like it's been implied. surely the guy who thought it was a good idea to place that backlight in that angle got the boot considering the online shitstorm it created heh..
  15. I don't know Sony might be better but their events still have silly setups too imo.. mirrors galore.. harsh backlights exposing nasty grid artifacts..
  16. Interview with the Z engineers: IR Interview: A deeper dive with the Nikon Z7 engineers F/0.95 is just the beginning? Now this was interesting: The amazing f/0.95 aperture of the coming 58mm lens is the starting point for super-aperture lenses, versus an end point! When I mentioned the f/0.95 aperture as a goal for the new mount, Mouri-san said that their goal was actually more ambitious than that, and that the 58/0.95 lens was just a "current point". Also cheaper non-S line lenses will come out.. Current trend of high group/elements lens design is good for charts/performance but often means micro-contrast & 3D pop take a hit which is where lens mojo is imo. Some new Z7 samples from Japan up on dpreview, these 2 high ISO shots were fairly impressive imo for SOOC jpgs: Nikon Nikkor Z 35mm F1.8 S 35 mm, 1/80 sec, f/3.2, ISO 25600 Nikon Nikkor Z 35mm F1.8 S 35 mm, 1/80 sec, f/1.8, ISO 8000
  17. Pretty cool the Z7 & Z6 are made in Japan at the historical Sendai factory. Currently only D5, DF & F6 are still made there. All other Nikon cameras are made in Thailand/China. D850 production/supply shortage hasn't got anything to do with it. The thirst is real!
  18. These rumor sites crack me up. One day it’s expect nothing from Canon until 2019, the next it’s FF mirrorless coming in 2 weeks. This info isn’t even CR1.. My guess is an M50 II to throw a bone to Canon users thinking of switching to Z..
  19. 50mm F1.2L & 85mm F1.2L are hallmarks of Canon's lens line-up, especially pro portrait photography. Also let's not forget that on a Super35/APS-C crop sensor/mode F0.95 becomes F1.4 & F1.2 becomes an F1.8 in DoF. They are pretty versatile & unique lenses imo. MFT, CA & breathing are pretty poor though (especially on the 50mm L) and this is where i'd expect Nikon's Z primes to take the lead.
  20. Actually yeah it's more likely BMD adopt ProRes Raw internally then do anything with Atomos.. then again a big part of their marketing is selling you Raw + Resolve and ProResRAW/FCPX could cannibalize that..
  21. Canon, Sony & Panasonic haven't enabled anything. Again Atomos just uses the raw SDI outputs of those cameras (FS700, FS5/7, C300/500, EVA1..) and encodes to ProRes Raw. BMD cams haven't really been supported by Atomos recorders period up till now i suspect as they offer competing recorders, but i could see that changing.
  22. As the name implies "Noct" sub-f1 primes are aimed at extreme low-light situations. Leica developped them during WW2 for night reconnaissance. Today they mostly sell to astro shooters, crop sensor users that are looking for shallow DoF, fast prime collectors etc..
  23. @jonpais The Sony FS5 & FS7 don't do ProRes Raw internally (nor will you even find any mention of it on Sony website). They do output Raw, and AFAIK Atomos exploits that to do the ProRes Raw encoding.
  24. I don't buy A7S3 recording ProRes Raw internally.. for a number of reasons including the fact Sony is a PC/Android hardware company and wouldn't adopt an Apple only format. Doesn't fit the ecosystem..
